I hate to admit to it, but I too had dewy eyes. Especially when I saw the dowager caved and then claimed she had (what did she say?) allergies or something? She is all about rules, regulations and procedures, though not beyond feelings. That did her a boatload of credit. Though in those days - I venture to say - showing emotions was linked to being flawed (and lower socio economic).
Yes! I was thinking the very same thing. It was such a triumph for them both, to declare their love for each other and for Lord Merton to escape the clutches of his selfish family. Such a missed opportunity for another important and wonderful Downton Abbey wedding to be enjoyed by all.
Rose’s dress for her registry wedding was so pretty! Daisy and Matthew 😢 she was doing her best but poor girl just wasn’t feeling it. I’m glad she did that for him though. Edith was so serene and beautiful for her real wedding. I love all the couples looking at each other during Edith’s vows.
I think if he lived, and they waited to get married she would have been happier. She did love him but she was so young she did not know what love was when she married him.
They did show Tom and Lucy’s wedding here. Wish they would show the new episode. I can binge watch this series.!The acting is superb. Missing Maggie Smith!
@@sarammauricio that’s great! I’d like to see the movies! Here in Canada, the series is available on both Netflix and Amazon Prime but don’t know where to watch the movies!
Changing the setting of the TV series Downton Abbey could provide a fresh and insightful perspective on the British aristocracy, highlighting its unique traits and shedding light on some of its characteristics. By relocating the events to a place where this class is free from the usual class pressures, the narrative could reveal more genuine aspects of aristocratic life, away from any false glamour. One intriguing suggestion is to move the setting to Tangier in the late 1920s. This period and location offer a unique backdrop where the wealthy aristocrat could encounter a variety of characters. Tangier, during this time, was an international zone governed by several countries, creating a cosmopolitan environment rich with cultural exchanges and political tensions. This setting would allow the series to explore the interactions and relationships that the British aristocracy might have had in a more liberated environment, devoid of the strict class hierarchies of England. The characters could engage in more authentic and spontaneous interactions, revealing their true natures and perhaps even challenging their own preconceptions and biases. While the producers might be hesitant to associate the characters with the colonial era, it's essential to recognize that life in Tangier was not solely defined by colonial conflicts. For instance, the series could portray wealthy aristocrats and intellectual communists finding common ground over shared interests, such as literature or art, humanizing both groups and providing a more nuanced portrayal of their social dynamics. The aristocrats could engage with the local community in various ways that show their human side. For example, a particularly touching scene could show aristocrats bringing sweets to the children in nearby villages during their hunting expeditions, an act of kindness that highlights their generosity and willingness to connect with the community on a personal level. Tangier was a melting pot of different cultures and ideologies, where European powers attempted to maintain harmony while managing the city collectively. This unique context could provide a rich narrative ground for exploring the complexities of aristocratic life and the broader social and political dynamics of the time.
@@kevinpoole6122Lady Edith mentioned it during a visit to her grandmother's for tea, with Sir Anthony. Only she and Lady Mary attended Tom and Sybill's wedding. The Dowager quick wittingly replied, "We were all ill...how sad."
Daisy did not display the proper emotions during her wedding. I wasn't a big fan of the character she played but she was able to act accordingly in some scenes, this is one of the many scenes where she failed miserably.
Please bear in mind that Daisy was at the very bottom of the social ladder, constantly steamrolled and bullied. Her opinions were never asked, let alone taken into consideration. Daisy had been guilt tripped and hoodwinked every step of the way into this relationship by the downstairs staff -- especially mrs. Patmore. Daisy might have liked William, but certainly did not love him. She only came to appreciate him when she started to visit his father.
As much as I love this series, it’s not realistic at all. People from upstairs would never attend people from downstairs’ weddings. And for sure, it would never ever be the other way round. They weren’t equal, some had all the privileges and the others had all the duties. And I insist, I LOVE this series.

Lady Edith’s cascading veil from the top of the gallery is one of the most visually stunning renderings of heartbreak ever filmed!
Thought the same. Stunning cinematic drama!
yes, that was some special symbolic effect. got the message of heart break across loud and clear
My favourite shot in the entire series!
Surprising how many different forms the wedding ceremony went through in this series.
depended upon wealth, station, divorce and religion. I think they pretty much nailed it for tradition and history
I forgot that Daisy's war wedding was the first one chronologically… I wasn't ready.
We all cried there 😢

Daisy's war wedding that she didn't want.

Daisy's first wedding so sad, every time I see this scene I cry like a baby....😢❤
Wild to think that Daisy of all people has the first and (off-screen), the last wedding to take place, to men with basically the same job.
I miss this show SO much!
YES! QUALITY COUNTS!!
There were many beautiful events, but none were more touching that William and Daisy getting married.
Agreed even with her feelings of deception.
Once again asking why we never saw Isobel and Lord Merton's wedding 😭

I need to be on Downton! Sounds like single people are finding true love around there! 💖
I really wish they'd bring back the whole series of Downton Abbey
I bought the dvd set for my library☺️
Guess we couldn't add Tom and Lucy's wedding since that was in the movie and not the series... shame it can't be here though.
