@@BlueEyesWhiteJoeWBush Idk, I don't think any sets were full on 100% Egyptian, or even mostly. While the other 2 are Gravekeepers and Triamid, which just kinda exist. Norse mythology of all things have better references to their pantheon in yugioh.
Another reason for Seto being able to control the god card is that in his past incarnation he infact was Atem's cousen and there for had the right to the throne after Atem deceased
Another cool fact, in the manga Izhizu states that Atem was the last pharaoh of the XVIII dynasty “the era in which ancient Egypt achieved the peak of its power.”
Atem is probably a paralel to the actual pharaoh Akhenaten. Akhenaten, previously known as Amenhotep IV, reigned in the 18th Egyptian Dynasty and *had his name erased* from various records in Ancient Egypt for preaching in favor of a monotheism centering around *Aten,* an aspect of Ra. This made him highly unpopular among the people, which eventually restored polytheism after his death. This, or could be one of his early sucessors, being Tutankhamon the most known one for being a young pharaoh that did not had sucessors by blood and handed over his reign to a counselor (Atem corresponds to all of this).
@@LumaSloth the difference is that Moses wasn't a king, despite growing up among royalty. Also, historical research points that if the events of the Exodus actually happened, they most likely would had happened during the reign of Ramsees II (1279 - 1213 BC).

Yeah I always thought Atem was inspired by Tutankhamun and he being a pharaoh from the New Kingdom period. What gives it away is the name of his father Akenaden (I think that's how its spelled in English dub). Clearly a reference to the real world Akhenaten.

Some things you missed: Chaos/Black Luster Soldier seems to be based on Ra, Chaos Emperor Dragon seems to be based on Apophis, Horus the Black Flame Dragon is based on the egyptian god of the same name and the entire Ogdoadic/Abhyss archetype which are based on the Egyptian Ogdoad. Also Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon (3 sets of heads) might be based on the seraphs (3 sets of wings) whose description as "fiery flying serpents" is believed to have been inspired by the egyptian cobras who (if I recall correctly) were believed to be guardians of the pharaoh and were often described as guardians of the gods.
@@NitroNEXT It is based on Ra as the first egyptian God who came out of chaos. Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning represents Khepri, the rising sun, Black Luster Soldier represents Ra, the midday sun and Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Evening Twilight represents Khnum, the setting sun, while Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End represents Apophis, the personification of chaos and main enemy of Ra. Khnum and Khepri are different aspects of god Ra. Also Ra was eventually merged with Atum (Atum-Ra), which would explain why the card is so heavily associated with Atem in the anime.
Actually, there are many cards that seem to be based on the Abrahamic God: For example, Sephylon is based on the Judaic God, Shooting Quasar Dragon, Cosmic Blazar Dragon and Stardust Sirf Divine Dragon seem to be based on the Christian God (Stardust Dragon is visually inspired by the "Woman Clothed in Sun" and effect-wise seems to be referrencing Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection, Majestic/Savior Star Dragon seems to be based on Jesus and Shooting Star Dragon is based on the Star of Bethlehem, which is believed to be the Holy Spirit) and the Star Gods seem to all be based on various "Gods" from Gnosticism.

Funny how your were able to wrangle up a meaningful connection between Seto’s adopted name and Egyptian mythology, especially since Kaiba was just meant to be a one off villain of the week when he was first introduced
Definitely a very informative video. Also, I'm sure Kaiba would be the least surprised at all if someone informs him that he's the representation of a god.

You really simplified the aspects of the soul, because there's many more parts. One including the Khaibit -- the shadow. Which really makes sense for Malik if you've read the manga or watched the original anime version. The shadow moving along the wall, having its own consciousness. Also the shadow usage in Season Zero and the original of Yugi's shadow splitting in two or having a glowing eye/eyes. Also Atemu's name is taken from a deity as well. Atem was also a form of Ra, but the evening version, or the 'old' form. So there's even more of a duality between Seto and Atem, because Set wasn't always the evil god. He used to help Ra and defend him against Aapep. Speaking of name. It was called the Ren and was also a part of the soul. If you had your Ren marked out or forgotten, your soul couldn't make it to Aaru. Hence one reason why Atemu couldn't find rest in the afterlife. He couldn't access it until he remembered his name and himself. Names being marked out back then was a denial to the afterlife. Nobody would remember you. I've always wanted to do a video myself on all of the connections, and maybe I will someday. Very cool video, I loved this! ♥ Also have some more infos (and also speculations) to add to it if I may. At the end of the manga Seto becomes indeed a Pharaoh after Atem's death, so he is in fact the new Pharaoh now, which means he has free access to the god cards! For what concerns the red gem on Obelisk's forehead: I think that symbolizes the underworld. Also, as shown in the video, the god Seth had red eyes and it just symbolizes the rivarly between Seth and Horus (red vs blue, which is ironic because the colors associated with the two characters are blue and red, so maybe it also symbolizes some kind of yin and yang). I'm just headcanoning (lol) but it makes sense, I don't know 🤣 Last but not least, I'd like to add something to Kaiba's surname: I think it's fantastic that is has different meanings, because not only it indicates the Ka and the Ba of Seth, but "Kaiba" in japanese means "seahorse" and in the japanese mythology seahorses are considered... baby dragons! Love your channel!
Honestly you could talk about this for HOURS and I would watch it all :D because you see, i study egyptology in university and yugioh (and the mummy) were one of the things that actually made me so interested in ancient egypt and yugioh is still one of my favourite animes since childhood, so yeah.... i could listen to you explain or theorize about all the links and symbolisms with egyptian mythology and yugioh for days and wouldn't get bored at all :D
I drew the connection that seto was a direct afterimage of Aaron from the exodus book of the Bible. 1. Aaron was an brother to man that was not good at speaking confidently (that was his strong suit) like Moses Mokuba isn’t gifted 2. During the retconned tablet of memories, Ishizu points out that in the battle of the insurrection the pharaoh (atem) sends his mightiest magicians to halt the exodus and discourage disobedience by accepting the challenge that god would prove his existence through the two men. One such display was Aaron being tested on his faith, where the magicians threw down their “RODS” that turned into serpents. Aaron by gods power threw down his “ROD” and it became a mightier serpent (debated on it being a crocodilian type) that ate the other ones with ease. *we can plug in the specifics references* 3. The aforementioned Rod speaks for itself. But the real interesting bit is how season 5 depicts Seto…a guardian priest. If you know Aaron’s story, the man became the first high PRIEST of god “the Levi of Leviticus”. Also as clear as day Exodia/Exodus. The story is a hoshposh reverse tale that “what if the pharaoh was just” quite ironic , because atem had this same dilemma an arc before.
the red gem in movie obelisk could be explained by the fact that, as this point, Atem and all the entities associated with those cards had past on, Seto using Obelisk in this case is him taking it with 0 right or reason, so the red gem could show how, in that scenario, he was not aligned with Heaven
Back then, if a pharaoh was connected to some questionable or heretic things, they'd have their names scratched out from every wall and record. This is even visible in the King's List. Names would be chiseled out of monuments. Another name would be put over that. Items covered similae or scrapped. It's important to note that nobody in memory knew his name. The Keepers didn't even know. Just the "Nameless Pharaoh" was supposed to come back. The funnies thing to me is: why didn't they just ask Ryo Bakura who has a history of this with his father. Because plot, I guess.

And if you do play them, please make videos on them hahahaha, they're criminally underrepresented!
I COULD be watching something else, but id rather listen to your videos. Theyre way more interesting than 90% of videos on this site in my opinion. And the passion you bring to it is alluring. Please make more kf these videos, id listen to them all day.
Another explanation as to why Kaiba can summon Obelisk is deeply tied to Kaiba as a character. The most interesting thing about him is he is in fact actually rich. Therefore, he can summon Obelisk.
I wish I had found this video sooner. This was awesome to watch! I hope your confidence has gone up since posting this video. Gotta fake it til you make it!
My headcannon on Exodia is fairly simple. He is featured with a cartoonized/stylized Nemes (Pharaonic headcloth) and a false beard. He is an unnamed evil Pharaoh imprisoned by his court within the fictional ancient Egypt in the Yugioh universe. His name isn't Egyptian at all but hints at his banishment. Plus his name just sounds cool.
Awesome video Egyptian mythology was my first mythology (along with Arthurian legend but I didn't know that was Celtic Mythology until High 2020 I need to get a Noble Knights deck) because of Yugioh and Tutenstein it's my favorite mythology and Yugioh will always be an important part of my life
Tbf tho, another nice but ridiculous answer could've been that Exodia, (besides being an indirectly-mentioned owner of the Slifer the Sky Dragon), has to be that the summoning mechanic of his cards also represent how the Pharaoh Atem had to finish 5 whole seasons of the Original Yugioh Anime before entering into the afterlife. Given how Exodia was his also actually Atem's "first main" monster he has used in order defeat Kaiba way back in Season 1, and given the fact that "Atem" also represents "Osiris", then Exodia finally and ultimately represents how Atem completes his journey after completing Season 5, just as how this mirrors how Exodia "aka, Osiris' counterpart" requires all 5 pieces of his pieces first in order to be actually be summoned, in order to officially and unbeatably be able to win the game. This idea also fits better with how Kazuki Takahashi would've wanted it, since Taskahasi hasn't really had "so much" experience and/or interest when in comes to the Hebrew God of the Bible, is actually more fitting that he stuck with his interests within the Lore of Ancient Egyptian Mythologies and Gods within their culture as well. But overall, i think this is a great video! I really enjoyed the entire beginning and concept of the whole video, but hopefully you get to be able to include more in-depth analysis and accuracy when it comes to suggesting any ideas as well... But anyways, thanks once again for this amazing video! and i also get to hope you get to have an enjoyable day ahead once again as well!
Idc what you think we need more of this im a full blooded Egyptian and a former YCS champion in the Egyptian scene there is NOTHING better for me to watch
The Millennium Puzzle could also represent a benben stone too. (A stone said to be where Atum first touched the Earth) Saw that on a documentary and my first thought was that it looked alot like the Millennium Puzzle.
To be fair I thought that Exodia was supposed to be a quote-on-quote "fusion" between Osiris and Horus or an avatar of Horus since : - Horus is the embodiment of royalty whilst Exodia looks like a mummified Pharaoh. - Horus has an ability in Egyptian Mythos known as the chapel of victory that brought him victory in any fight (Well... except if your name is Seth, Ra or Apophis) whilst Exodia's passive makes you to instantly win when you summon him. I know that there are references in Exodus for Exodia, but we can't overlook the ones that *truly* tie him with the Egyptian myths.
Bro your headcanon was so so good. I always imagined that Bakura was an Israelite. Idk why. But the way they treated the people of Kul Elna it just always stuck with me.
Watched Yu-Gi-Oh as a kid and now as a grown man I have a Phoenix and Anubis tattooed on me. I plan on getting a Marik tomb keeper style tattoo aswell and my profile picture shows my Horus pendant.
Might have to do with translation for locals. In the Japanese anime they used the word "tenkaku no ryu" wich literally translate to Dragon of Heaven or Heavenly dragon.

Also, as shown in the video, the god Seth had red eyes and it just symbolizes the rivarly between Seth and Horus (red vs blue, which is ironic because the colors associated with the two characters are blue and red, so maybe it also symbolizes some kind of yin and yang). I'm just headcanoning (lol) but it makes sense, I don't know 🤣
Last but not least, I'd like to add something to Kaiba's surname: I think it's fantastic that is has different meanings, because not only it indicates the Ka and the Ba of Seth, but "Kaiba" in japanese means "seahorse" and in the japanese mythology seahorses are considered... baby dragons!
Love your channel!
Now my card feels powerful i have god in my hand
Loved the video. Amazing work
Honestly you could talk about this for HOURS and I would watch it all :D because you see, i study egyptology in university and yugioh (and the mummy) were one of the things that actually made me so interested in ancient egypt and yugioh is still one of my favourite animes since childhood, so yeah.... i could listen to you explain or theorize about all the links and symbolisms with egyptian mythology and yugioh for days and wouldn't get bored at all :D
Amazing video! Made yugioh even more cooler than it was. I missed so much of that upon my initial viewings of the show
please post more egyptian and yugioh videos just like this one
I drew the connection that seto was a direct afterimage of Aaron from the exodus book of the Bible.
1. Aaron was an brother to man that was not good at speaking confidently (that was his strong suit) like Moses Mokuba isn’t gifted
2. *we can plug in the specifics references*
Yugioh got me hooked on egyptian mythology, hell my mom took me to see king tuts exhibit, i love learning about it
I'd love to hear more on this topic!
unironically would watch a pt 2 of this 👀
You should make a part 2! Or make it into a podcast or something of the sort. This was awesome to listen too!
One of the coolest ygo vids ive ever watched, thanks for making this
the red gem in movie obelisk could be explained by the fact that, as this point, Atem and all the entities associated with those cards had past on, Seto using Obelisk in this case is him taking it with 0 right or reason, so the red gem could show how, in that scenario, he was not aligned with Heaven
Make more extended and detailed version of this. I have learned so much, man.
I never looked it. In my head I thought Atem was a play on Aten.
Walking from the shadows into the light and passing on
I have already travelled to Egypt once before I have got into Yugioh.
Now I have an attitude towards Ancient Egypt as something magical.
Please make more this was one of the most interesting videos i have ever seen
I loved this! I'd love to hear you talk more about this kind of stuff for way longer.
You say you can keep going on this subject. Heck yeah, this stuff was amazing, keep going.
Slifer the executive producer
Did anyone else find it silly that Yugi didn't just ask what the Pharoah's name was on the tablet when he visited the museum?
It probably was scratched out like a lot of stuff involving Nefertiti
Back then, if a pharaoh was connected to some questionable or heretic things, they'd have their names scratched out from every wall and record. This is even visible in the King's List. Names would be chiseled out of monuments. Another name would be put over that. Items covered similae or scrapped.
It's important to note that nobody in memory knew his name. The Keepers didn't even know. Just the "Nameless Pharaoh" was supposed to come back.
The funnies thing to me is: why didn't they just ask Ryo Bakura who has a history of this with his father.
Because plot, I guess.
NOOOOO keep going! I want moooore!! All joking aside, In-CREDIBLE job! Thank you for giving me even more appreciation for the original series! Please teach us more if you can =P. Also, if you happen to be interested in games deeply tied to mythology, look up La-Mulana 1 and 2. They're a puzzle game series where you explore ancient ruins that tie into many many, MANY ancient mythologies and it's awesome that real-life knowledge can actually help with some puzzles, so you may enjoy them :D! And if you do play them, please make videos on them hahahaha, they're criminally underrepresented!
That was beautiful. Thank you so very much for this upload and explanation.
I COULD be watching something else, but id rather listen to your videos. Theyre way more interesting than 90% of videos on this site in my opinion. And the passion you bring to it is alluring.
Please make more kf these videos, id listen to them all day.
I would have watched an hour of this video, wish there was more!
I love nerding out that was awesome.
Another explanation as to why Kaiba can summon Obelisk is deeply tied to Kaiba as a character. The most interesting thing about him is he is in fact actually rich. Therefore, he can summon Obelisk.
And he can summon the real Obelisk while the one in the cards is just a recreation made by Pegasus in the image of the real divine beasts.
This made me love og yugioh so much more
No wonder I like Egyptian stuff lol
The Christian God theory become more hilarious when the person who get rid of him is a literal bugman
I wish I had found this video sooner. This was awesome to watch! I hope your confidence has gone up since posting this video. Gotta fake it til you make it!
Neat facts to learn about. Clears my mind and open it to the truth.
This was soooo entertaining. Job well done!
Awesome video Egyptian mythology was my first mythology (along with Arthurian legend but I didn't know that was Celtic Mythology until High 2020 I need to get a Noble Knights deck) because of Yugioh and Tutenstein it's my favorite mythology and Yugioh will always be an important part of my life
Wow, that was so interesting and Yu-Gi-Oh make so much more sense too! ❤
the ancient Egyptian themes in yugioh are so neat to me
That ending has to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard tho...LMAO
Always thought it was cool that the original Pharoahs like Ramesses etc. had ginger and blonde hair and Yugi actually has ginger/blonde hair
This was such a great video. Thank you.
Please do more ! My limited time on earth is made a bit more bearable with these !
You might find the writings of Michael Heisser quite interesting. Specifically "The Unseen Realm" and "Reversing Hermon".
you should talk more about this, this was really interesting
Idc what you think we need more of this im a full blooded Egyptian and a former YCS champion in the Egyptian scene there is NOTHING better for me to watch
The Millennium Puzzle could also represent a benben stone too. (A stone said to be where Atum first touched the Earth)
Saw that on a documentary and my first thought was that it looked alot like the Millennium Puzzle.
I would like to spend more of my limited time on Earth listening to this topic please.
To be fair I thought that Exodia was supposed to be a quote-on-quote "fusion" between Osiris and Horus or an avatar of Horus since :
- Horus is the embodiment of royalty whilst Exodia looks like a mummified Pharaoh.
I demand that you continue!!!
Bro your headcanon was so so good. I always imagined that Bakura was an Israelite. Idk why. But the way they treated the people of Kul Elna it just always stuck with me.
I want more this was really cool! I specifaclly searched for this video!
This is the video I didn't know I needed
Cool videos, learned a lot in this one
I think Exodia being Osiris is a lot cooler than him being YHWH
If you haven't already, you should make a video talking about ALL Yu-Gi-Oh! cards that are Egyptian themed!! That would be so cool!
this is awesome I loooved this video!
Yes, lovely video, yes. Please nerd more about egyptian gods
seto is the pharaoh after atem, so indeed he was one
I can't find part 2. I need more of this.
Exodia head cannon goes hard.
i have been waiting for this video my entire life lmao
Watched Yu-Gi-Oh as a kid and now as a grown man I have a Phoenix and Anubis tattooed on me. I plan on getting a Marik tomb keeper style tattoo aswell and my profile picture shows my Horus pendant.
Yooo brooo, you gotta do a minimun 2 hours vídeo of this my guy, fking love it man!! +1 subscribe! 🔥
Wasn’t Ra’s original name the Sun dragon of Ra?, I’ve seen it in multiple things including manga
Might have to do with translation for locals. In the Japanese anime they used the word "tenkaku no ryu" wich literally translate to Dragon of Heaven or Heavenly dragon.
@@sapolsaikrasun2270 sounds way better then winged dragon XD
Loved this
A.) You’re too humble, this was a great video!
B.) Blue-Eyes White Dragon is the one and only true deck. My blasphemy is undeniable.
