Don't forget cats. Cats are good guys in the setting.
Their spirits live on the moon and fight eldritch beings. They protect those who treat cats well.
It's a nod to the fact that Lovecraft adored cats.
Yeah, I heard he had a cat of his own.....

"who is the big Stronk?" should be accepted as a regular conversation topic across all cultures!
But could Goku beat Azatoth?
@@citizen_grub4171 obviously
@@citizen_grub4171He’d get rsped.
@@citizen_grub4171 Obviously not. Azathoth simply becoming aware of the existence of Goku would be sufficient to end Goku. The only winning move with Azathoth is to avoid and hope he slumbers peacefully, never aware that you exist at all.
It's like asking who would win, Goku or the heat-death of the universe - only one of them really understands that there's a contest at all, and it's not the one that's going to win in the end.
I choose to believe God exists in Lovecraft, because the image of a Knight Templar marching up to Lovecraftian horrors with naught but a sword, shield, helmet, chainmail and absolute faith is unbelievably cool to me.
you just resume Warhammer Fantasy haha
spikeman vs literally a prime evil
I personally imagine it more as a vaguely humanoid-shaped solar explosion regularly german-suplexing the "evil" lovecraftian gods every time they mess with humanity.
I know, it's not very serious, but He created us in his image, so you can be pretty dang sure that he can be just as whacky if not even more than we are, lol.

So not only do people debate God’s existence IRL, they ALSO debate it in the fiction of Lovecraft?
It do be like that sometimes.
Only the weirdos.
I mean there are people who debate the existence of the gods in universes where there is actual physical proof that they exist
You do realize there is church of cthulu in real life. And they argue that he is real

Yes I remember that story. That the cult from the other outer gods try to overwhelm a.k.a over taken a town but it stated that God didn't allow it to happen. But their also didn't include God from the bible at the same time, 🤔🙄😒
Oh let just said their dont like to bring up or bring in the Gid from the Christian Bible involved in lovecraft's story's that much at all.

Conan is also a "good guy" in the HPL universe. He has slayed a few Eldritch Horrors
His author and HP Lovecraft were buddies so it make snese
And in that regard, we might as well add Solomon Kane, who has been fighting God knows what‑ever is out there, and generally evil. If we're also considering canon, some have said that he's already in his 90's, which... Kind of sucks.
@@vee-bee-a I'm sure he picked some immortal device artifact thing

If the God of the Bible exists then the Bible would be 100% accurate since magical books coming from gods actually work in this universe.
So a happy ending would be that even if humanity dies God saved as much as he could by bringing them to his dimension.
There is something like that. Humans can live in the dreamworlds after their death. And there're also the Yig who take care of species from every aeon across the universe.
If the god of the Bible is real, that means the God of the Quran is real too. Which means God first had a chosen people to use as pawns in his schemes but then he decided to expand his reach to more people. Basically making his followers crusaders/jihadis on God's holy war against the Other Gods/other gods of Earth. It's actually really interesting that you've got one egomaniac God trying to take over all of humanity and use them as an Army against enemy forces.
If the Abrahamic GOD really exists in the Lovecraft mythos, then it's probably the exact opposite of the "weird uncle nobody talks about", where every deity but him is weird.
poor boring uncle Larry
>"Abarhamic God"
Which one?
@@uberfeel its the same one for all 3 of them just different stories
@@hossamchouiqa425but one must be true because all interpret God differently
@@uberfeel There's... only one
It's important to remember that H.P. Lovecraft interwove his cannon in with the works of Robert E. Howard and Clark Ashton Smith, making all of their stories cannon to each other universes. This means all the gods of the Hybroean Age are cannon to the mythos, along with all the gods who later become incarnations of them. Since Mitra is essentially the proto-Abrahamic God / Sky Father of the Hyborean Age, it can be implied that God is real in Lovecrafts works.
Also, technically speaking, many of the Gods of Earth were originally flesh and blood people who did amazing things in their lives, leading to them becoming deified in death by the cultures they belong to ( Crom of the Cimmerians for example ). Whenever a Human makes a great enough impression on the combined psyche of human society, they either become or inspire the birth of a new godling through the power of the dreamlands / Kuth of the Star Gurdle. So in a roundabout way the ultimate good guys of Lovecrafts stories are... Humans.
I am surprised someone has not used The Cult of the Yellow Sign as a reason to do a SCP like group in the Lovecraftian universe.
But then you would have to explain why azathoth is just a microbe on a stick that the crimson king just stepped over to get to the bathroom. Their power scaling is beyond ridiculous. I'm probably rating azathoth too high honestly.
@DeathBYDesign666 there is no scaling because SCP has no canon. Zero issue here
@@DeathBYDesign666their is no canon it all contradicts itself if you try to power scale it you get through a billion anti feats and then 99% of the verse is wall level as a result I don’t understand why people scale it never mind think it scales high
@@DeathBYDesign666 SCP universe(if you can describe it as one) isn't coherent in terms of lore. Also, all documents are made up by SCP-732.
Also Andrey Duksin is near as strong as Scarlet King, but a bit more evil
@@DeathBYDesign666 I said a SCP like group in the Lovecraftian universe, not merging the two canons together. Just the idea of a secret organization that deals with the strange things in the Lovecraftian Lore to help hide the abominations from public. Though I agree that the Crimson King's power scaling so high it made a boring character.
Before Lovecraft was an atheist, he was a Baptist in the very first Baptist church in America in Providence (Baptist Memes did an iceberg video talking about this). So he still had that influence of Christianity in his subconscious.
As a Child He also was fascinated with islam
As a baby He was also fascinated with Hinduism
@paulallen2680 as a sperm he was also fascinated with Buddhism
I always wanted to write a story I had idea for where all the classic monsters, vampire, werewolf, ghost, mummy, etc… end up working with an Angel against the eldritch gods and you’d even have Satan being ‘the enemy of my enemy’ at times as he can’t rule the universe if some eldritch beings destroy it. I figured they would’ve been God’s first creations, before He made angels or the world or man, the primordial beings of the void and the deep that existed before Creation.
I’d read a manga of that. That is cool as hell. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Well, techincally you should make Satan more of a "I only help myself" so basicly if you were going to write said story I think it would make sense is he sort of fliped flopped from one side to another based on who would help him the most immediately. I mean he did turn against God so he could have the power, why wouldn't he kust keep flip flopping to which ever side would give him the most power at the moment.
@ True he’s an opportunist sure… but his pride is the bigger issue. siding with the eldeitch gods gives him nothing as he’d have to share power or submit to them. Which is something he’d never do.
HOLD UP THIS WRITING IS FIRE?!!? If you write this story you gotta tell me the name.
Nodens is also the name of Celtic god
>Guy says the Lovecraft mythos ends on a sad, dark note.

I'm happy to hear someone talk so enthusiastically about fiction we all love. Great video as ever!
You're the only source I'll listen to on power rankings. Thanks for all the awesome content! 💜
you shouldn't take your information from just one source but thank you.
@@literarywhobut how else will we learn who is big stronk?
In the call of Cthulhu table top role-playing game the elder sign is more like a magical stamp that prevents Lovecraft’s beings from being near it, it doesn’t actually hurt them. It is also a pretty powerful spell.
The closer to August Derleth's interpretation of the sign. He picked up where Lovecraft left off in a few ways
no no no, thank YOU so much for telling me about this wacky universe and all of the mythologies out there. you make them actually fun to learn about
Thanks for the video. One of the best quality about lovecraftverse.
Have you ever thought of taking a look at Xeelee Sequence? Stephen Baxter basically took the core premise of humanity being insignificant and applied hard physics to it. “Here’s the universe, here’s why it doesn’t care, here’s how little it cares, and here’s the math proving it.” It’s like if Lovecraft was able to stomach investigating the horrors he created, and in a certain way, there’s more dread in certainty of futility rather than a shadowy unknown.
Unfortunately, from what I've heard, it's quite boring. Like if the Author threw all his points into Worldbuilding AND nothing more.
Not that it's bad, making Time Travel understandable is a monumental task, let alone having it be widespread.
@@Spino-hx2mr it’s definitely a worldbuilding project first, I’ll give you that.
You can't scientifically prove that kind of philosophical concept.
@@libertyprime3827 just look up the books and you'll realize that it pretty much demonstrates what I mean perfectly.
@ozzymandius666 yeah, and second by a long shot. We didn’t do anything to help ourselves escape. Ultimately that power meant next to nothing.
Such Shame Lovecraft didn't know about Goku yet smh
Could have been another to fight against the other gods
Now there would an epic story journey to the west meets Lovecraft.
Goku would lose horribly, arale from dr slump on the other hand would be a whole nother story.

Hey, man. Your content’s great and we enjoy listening and watching. Don’t ever feel low about yourself.
I've genuinely thought of making a Castlevania/Doom like game where a guy beats the Lovecraftian Pantheon with the power of Jesus
that is like saying " i can kill God and jesus by zeus"
Then try the Game “Forgive me father” where one of the optional main character is a priest/pastor.
I just finished watching this and the power-scaling video, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. I find you especially relatable in the sense that you have so much information, and you want to share it, but your actual peers are bored to tears, so you've taken to the internet. I am not a content creator, but I understand perfectly why you became one. I think it's awesome that you've finally found your audience, and an outlet for your wealth of knowledge and extensive research to be spread abroad, correcting all stupefied misconceptions and misinformation along the way. You're doing great things.
Can't wait for them to talk no jutsu the other gods
If the biblical god exists in Lovecrafts mythos he too would only be a aspect of yog sothoth which is wild to think about
I mean if God is omnipotent and omniscient this isn’t technically necessary hilariously.
@@tiggerbane4325 so is Yogi Sothoth and azathoth. So it would effectively make them the same being or aspects of the same being.
@@tiggerbane4325 yog is everything no exception

I am really interested in the universe Lovecraft created, but have a hard time reading some of his and others' works since the writing style is a bit old and prosey.

From my sparse reading of HPL, I always thought that the references to to characters and entities weren't necessarily part of a consistent universe or timeline. Cool to hear that there was some consistency and persistence of events across stories.

1:15 "Have you seen the sign?" Also that's the sign of the King in Yellow, the Elder Sign more often looks like a fallen-over tree or sometimes a warped star with a candlelit eye at the centre, although the latter was a non-Lovecraft addition and HP himself invented the treelike design. And yes it is able to be written down, Lovecraft did so himself when writing a letter to one of his writing chums to explain what the deal with it was, hence the origin of the tree design. The star design meanwhile came from another writer who didn't know that letter existed and so made his own version to use in his works

Man you're funny---you earned my subscription
Love your videos especially the ones on Lovecraft
I read a story about something called the Purple Emperor, it worked to undermine the power and influence of the King in Yellow. It was kind of vague, but clearly named after the butterfly
The stories of Robert Bloch (Contemporary of Lovecraft who wrote in the same time period as he did) touch more on the Egyptian Gods and their relationship to Nyarlathotep. They’re not exactly nice beings, and Nyarlathotep rules over the gods of egypt. Though Nyarlathotep rules over all the gods of earth anyway so that’s not a big surprise
Lovecraft lore feels like morden day internet story telling since its a bunch of cool ideas scattered through many things
Regarding The God of Adam in the Mythos, i always thought it was weird that all the mythos gods all looked at things the same way and all had, more or less the same motivations, goals, and outlook. This would seem to make the less sapient, not more.
I always thought it would make more sense to have some gods that were humanity adjacent. Who even straight forward advocated for humanity the way some humans advocate for animals.
Maybe Yahweh/Jehovah is just the Elder God equivalent of a PETA activist.
There is only one entity one can concievably call evil, Nyarlathothep.
Everybody else is simply beyond good and evil.
hey man, i don't like debaters/scalers/CrossbattleGuys. think they're pretentious but you are a good commentator with very good knowledge of the mythos.

10:26 Is this why Yog-Sothoth "trapped" the other gods in the void and keeps them there by being the ultimate gate? So they can't just run wild, consume everything and endanger him?
no, thank you man for providing this video, we love you man!
In the mythos it is less good vs evil when it comes to the gods and more about which ones actually care if they step on us vs the ones that barely register we exist. Outer gods are supposed to be on a level to the point that saying they are evil for not caring if humanity gets trampled under their feet is equal to saying a human mowing his lawn is evil for running over an ant hill. Callous perhaps, indifferent most likely, even register the event as part of there day...unlikely. Most of the evil in the stories are done by cultist seeking power, money or knowledge and even then they almost always end up getting destroyed by what they sought.
Now I want to know more about the gods of alien planets…
So I can't back any of this up with quotes because it's been forever since I looked deeper into the Cthulhu Mythos. Hence this might not at all be accurate and stem from my own conclusions back then. From what I understand, Hastur fighting the MiiGo isn't such an uncommon thing because I believe some of the gods and creatures of the Mythos, even though they belong to the same "side" or pantheon, will simply fight each other because they aren't *really* allied or anything. There is no such thing as team spirit between the gods unless they go up against each other in a big style like the Elder Gods did, I suppose.
As for the Elder Sign: I think all it does is it temporarily prevents the Old Ones from becoming aware of you (and only if they aren't already).
Love your vids bro ❤
Thanks for the video!
