I remember hearing from a pro mma(forgot who), that the most important thing isn't speed or power, it's timing, it's being able to wait, find and capitalise on your opponents mistakes. This is how tarakotori plays, I feel
I had to do the same thing when I beat a fairly decent Marth player with Little Mac in Smash 4 years ago on Final Destination. He made me work for every inch of that win, which made it much more satisfying when I finally pulled it off.
As a Mac player, you have to identify moments where the opponent might act too lax on their recovery and catch them off guard. You have to exploit every weakness just like how they exploit Mac's
there's something beautiful about high-tier Mac gameplay. The character has such big strengths but also such great weaknesses it takes a lot of skill to pull him off in higher skill matchups
which fits for little mac perfectly, Nintendo made it so that Mac was an underdog ever since he was released back in Smash 4, so its always so hype whenever we see Little Mac in big tournaments, and which is why i main him, just the thrill of being the underdog and managing to squeeze out a win is an awesome feeling
This is literally the story of the Punch Out games. Little dude beating the absolute hell out of some absolute monsters in the most ridiculous looking way possible.
As a Mac main I’ve been saying for years, there is NO WAY he is bottom 2. Is he still pretty bad? Yes. But in no world is he bottom 2. Has a better recovery than dr Mario or Belmonts. He’s held back in people’s perception of him because he is completely useless to someone who doesn’t know how to play Mac specifically.
@@shimakorosu Just trying to understand what you mean. As in when you down tilt them they don’t air dodge out of it? In that case just hit them with up b, or side b depending on percent. At ledge down tilt side b a little above 50 kills a lot of the cast
@@shimakorosu if you watch more Mac clips, you can see that at higher percent than that it’s often down tilt into jump up b. Can kill consistently 90-110%
Ganondorf is significantly less interesting to watch than Little Mac. Nothing entertaining about a slow dude throwing out Nair in neutral for 75% of the match and having to rely entirely on reads to get kills. Lil Mac at least has some sauce.
@@Forged4War206 BUT Ganon is more hype than Little mac, as the worse character of the game, its always refreshing go see people turn the game around with such slow and heavy character. One of the best combacks was made with Ganondorf, Look Light vs. Nairo

Tier lists are not always descriptive of meta, but prescriptive. Tier lists reinforce competitive behaviors and perceptions, thereby influencing character results. When an upset like this happens, it's going to affect competitive behaviors; more people will think Mac is viable, put time into labbing the character, and suddenly more results pop up within brackets. Not because the character is suddenly better (we aren't getting patches anymore) but *strictly* speaking from statistics, the more players represent a character, the more results that character will have. It's happening in Melee with characters like Donkey Kong and Roy, too. I think that's where the life in competitive games come from-- how beautiful these games are!
Yeah, that shit is crazy. I still don't think little Mac is the best character, but the fact that there are people like this representing this character and doing well is wild and interesting.
Donkey kong in melee is a great example of this. I don’t think mac is quite the same, there is just too many barriers for the character to really excel consistently, but I would absolutely love to be proven wrong.
Genuinely speaking though the tier list rates the tool kits of a character, highest lil Mac could get is to low c tier because you can cheese him so easily but his armor is lovely
Mac's been a c teir forever. I remember someone did a data sheet using online battles for all the characters. Mac ratio was straight 50 percent. It was over a million online battles for all the characters
Online and offline ultimate are completely different things at a high level. Macs explosive and high damaging nature thrives online, along with stuff like all his super armour moves getting a buff from online and his smash attacks being even safer
Low-tier doesn't mean completely unviable, it just means you have to play at a much higher execution % than everyone else. He was playing almost perfectly this entire run. It's actually incredible.
Technically yes but this was just a weekly, at a major where everyone takes it more seriously, unless youre the undisputed goat of smash, you prolly wont win with anyone from lower mid tier or under
@@Keeby. technically yes? It’s true. If there was a hypothetical AI that could play 100% perfectly with a character like little Mac they would win every major. The only low-tiers that would still have no shot are the ones with low skill ceilings like Gannon. You can only play so perfect and it matter with a character with terrible frame data.
I think anyone with a background in fighting games that aren't Smash always saw the potential in Little Mac. It was just a question of when someone would get gud enough to make him work.
It was his subtle air movement that made the difference I think. He didn't really attack in the air much so it wasn't obvious but it really created a lot of mix up opportunities on the opponents shield.
I feel like the BO3 format is perfect for Little Mac - he wins games so quickly you don't even know what happened. By the time you think you've adapted the set's over. Tarakotori what a player
Mac is great at destroying at a low level but it gets harder as people figure out how to play against him. Mac has garbage grab and aerial game leaving him with ground only as a big strength. That kind of skew can be hard to work with.
This actually blows my mind. But it’s so nice to see. You proved that Jigglypuff could be the best, and beat Fox. And today, we have you reacting to a Little Mac beating a Min Min. I love to see that no matter what, with enough practice and determination, you can take down any obstacle.

thats actually crazy from sakurai. if you play the character like how its supposed fom its og game its viable. the dude must be a programming god.
