You basically just witnessed the birth of the entire "goth" genre.
it could be said the Birth of Gothic (including 'The Mopey Two-step) was a Bar phono in Leeds.....i know, I was a regular and was there when the Goth two step dance came about and why.
@@theSFCchannel There was also Joy Division - Closer which was more of a gothic rock album than post-punk.
Funny story, Peter Murphy (lead singer) said in interview one time that a fan had came to his show with his mom. The fan was 12- 14 yrs old, any way they came back stage and the kid had the chance to get autographs and meet him, the kid started crying and was totally freaked out, and said please dont eat me. Peter, after the mother calmed the kid down, explained to the kid that its a stage performance and that they are not really vampires.
That is GREAT :) !
Bela Lugosi was the best (IMO) "Dracula" ever. He was from the Transylvanian region and didn't speak English when he took the role, so he memorized the script phonetically. You should check out the movie on your own.
He sure was! I have the movie. 🙂
He was from Lugoj, that’s in Transylvania, Romania. Although he was Hungarian.
this song was used in the opening scene from the horror film THE HUNGER, starring susan sarrandon, david bowie and catherine deneuve. it actually features bauhaus playing in the club that bowie and deneuve are in, looking for their next victims.
perfect choice. great film too.
The best Version Of this song was in the Hunger
I know but the threesome between Sarandon Bowie and Deneuve always gets me distracted ;) !
This was the best opening scene ever
This is such a great song. The Coachella performance of this song is as cool as it gets.
This is truly unexpected. Most reactors will not go outside of popular music. 👍
You might like his solo work. Try "Cuts You Up." It's New Wave. This is more Post Punk...most reactors don't seem to appreciate Post Punk.
I have a spooky/atmospheric suggestion for you. "The Killing Moon" by Echo and The Bunnymen. It's New Wave and therefore a little more accessible. It's also been used in several popular movie soundtracks.
Post punk is a very influential genre and am glad you reacted to this…very awesome!
Oh there were some sights in town in those days, punks, goths, new romantics, Perry boys and casuals. It was a lot of fun.
one of the foundational bands and songs for the Goth music that evolved out of punk rock... if you like this, you might also like a song called Hong Kong Garden by Siouxsie and the Banshees
Can't even express how much I love this song, Saw them live on their reunion tour in 1997 , one of my favorite concerts i ever went to.
Big dub reggae influence here. Apparently they used to go to lots of hardcore reggae blues parties frequented by real heavy rastas, and they were accepted as fellow dub heads. 💯 True story.
Bauhaus had some freaky songs, lead singer Peter Murphy went solo and had some "radio friendly" songs. Check out his song Cuts You Up, it's very different from this.
That's what I would typically recommend to reactors but sadly most will not take me up on it.
We loved Buahuas as kids growing up in SoCal late 70s early 80s . At the time of this release I didn't like it at first but after listening to it a couple of times it was refreshing to what was popular at the time
That was amazing!!! Your reaction was spot on; we didn't expect anything less.
Love it! Finally, getting to the good stuff!!! Beautiful music. Beautiful woman! Love it.
Out of the breakup of Bahaus come out Love and Rockets lead by guitarist Daniel Ash. Great band. And Bahaus lead singer Peter Murphy had a pretty good solo career. Check out some of his songs like Cuts You Up, Strange Kind Of Love, I'll Fall With Your Knife.
Oh, and this song was the opening scene of the vampire movie "The Hunger" starring David Bowie, Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve. Good movie for Halloween.
Big News and the Hunger- Version was the best
I looked at the thumbnail. The look on your face! I was a goth back in the day, loved all this stuff. But I was quite a cheery person honest! :D
Wow! This is my first time ever hearing this. I love the Dracula 1931 film!🙂👍
To really appreciate this cut check out the opening scene of 'The Hunger' Bauhaus performance blows the doors off the set and no lyrics are spit until 1:41 into this jam. It's a tour de force performance that renders the cut second.
Peter Murphy destroys it
Oh my goth! Yes!
Saw Bauhaus around 1980 Liverpool, great concert, glad to see your laugh at the end
Dance music meets trance meets punk and whaddya get. Goth. Obviously its the ambience that makes it special. Took a long time to to get this on guitar - standard tuning, spanish style strumming, never play a note on the 4th, 5th or 6th strings.
Bauhaus, though eventually being dubbed as one of the "Goth-fathers", was Art-Punk so the musical structure wasn't intended to adhere to traditional norms. Rather, they were more about experimentation both in sound and aesthetic to create something new and unique.
In Mexico the people that are into gothic are called Darketos
Pete Murphy's great. Love his collaboration with Japan's Mick Karn, "Dali's Car"
Pete Murphy is (well when I knew him back in the 80's) a lovely bloke. Same with SOM. I wasn't even a goth (rockablly).
Beautiful
I grew up with this kind of music (we used to call it Dark, not Gothic or post punk). Bauhaus were "extreme", very creepy, I can understand her reaction (good u didn't listen at the extended remix). She would probably like some Siouxsie and the Banshees more
The Original first official Goth Song.
This one is new to me also! He kind of sounds like David Bowie! And somewhat like the lead singer from Psychedelic Furs! Ciao Amigas y amigos!
Bauhaus was heavily inspired by glam rock from the early 70s 😊
They used in movie and tv show on Halloween 🎃 great song when I saw them even butter
Wow this takes me back to 18 🙂
Now this is music!
The opening soundtrack song in The Hunger. You have to watch it! And god said, let Goth be born! 😉❤️
Do ‘The Forest’ by ‘The Cure’ next year!
😍🥰
How does one leave out Oingo Boingo for scary tunes... Dead Man's party...Insanity...Stay? I think Oingo Boingo's 'Insanity, live' was one of the best Halloween concerts tunes of all time.
Don't let this song put you off the band Bauhaus btw, they had some decent songs & went on to be Love and Rockets, leaving Peter Murphy to his darker solo career...Love & Rockets early singles included Kundalini Express, a song about tantric meditation, a complete polar opposite of Bauhaus.
I'd like to suggest you react to Linda Ronstadt (with J.D. Souther harmony) "Prisoner in Disguise". And, yes, I agree with RandomJane below who suggested "Cuts You Up" by Peter Murphy. Loved your reaction to The Carpenters "Superstar"
Somebody just drained their Patreon account.....
Peter Murphy the best.
You should NOT if you don’t really know .. do your investigation .. they are part of music history .. bless your knowledge in music 🙏
Could you do a reaction to Wheeler Walker Jr? Hes funny
😂 old school gothic , post-punk music.
Could you react to One Night in Bangkok by Murray Head?
His solo stuff is much better. (Peter Murphy). Check out "The Scarlet Thing in You." His solo stuff is so much less creepifying.
Vkgoeswild's version of this song.

she looks perplexed
Interesting is the right word for it. I'm assuming that they added another "s" to the end of Mr. Lugosi's name so that they wouldn't get sued.
Ha this was supposed to be a cool song when I was a teenager and made the transition from punk to goth. 1980s, ya know?
That's really interesting. I'm a teen and I'm starting to get into goth music. Was there any initial rivalry between punks and goths in the beginning?
@Böx0choco Punks thought goths were emo wimps, or as they used to say back then, "g@y". Not literally but as a pejorative.
@@tripfisk4246 Wow...this may sound harsh because I'm not punk and I'm not very well aversed in the subculture, but I do know a few things and that's shameful. Punks were misfits and they owned it, including the countless queer individuals trailblazing through that movement. Good on you for doing what you wanted.
@@box0choco593 Things were way different back then. There also used to be skinheads at almost every punk show that at some point during the show would start beating the sh!t out of some poor punk, like 10 skinheads on 1 guy.
@@tripfisk4246 Geez! I'm glad that at least some punk groups could hold their own against vile skinheads even if that wasnt what usually happened
Not their best song, and not the best version of it.
Damn you were doing so good and these selections the past 2-3 weeks, yikes
