      You bet Nic. Planet 28 is one of those games that folks keep mentioning, so we had to check it out. BTW, if someone wants to buy a copy of 2nd edition, what’s the best way?

      @@oldhammered good question!
      The PDF will go up free on wargames vault likely this week, and the printed copies will be going to the printer this weekend. Once all kickstarter pledges go out by the end of this month, i will have hardback copies available through mammoth miniatures.

    I got planet28 2nd edition off the Patreon recently, and I have to say it's probably the best game I've ever played (space weirdos not withstanding, and I have you to thank for that!)
    It's really, really simple to stat up a crew for it, and the best mechanic in my opinion is custom weaponry. There is a hefty list of existing weapon types that usually map onto what your models have, but you can also build bespoke weapons using the same point buy system, where range, damage, and unique abilities (like explosive, burning, etc) all have point costs, and it feels believable and fair.
    Honestly I got into skirmish wargaming because of stargrave, and started building two crews for it, but I've found Planet28 2E scratches the itch that stargrave gave me better than stargrave can. I'd love to see you try it out on the channel!

      I'm really interested in PEI 2E. I have played 1E, but found the combat, using the ability ratings Vs armour meant survivability of models in all forms of combat was too high. it worked ok after small tweaks. love the vehicle rules.

    • @walt_man
      @walt_man 2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, Stargraves weapon system was too abstract and less detailed than I'm used to.

    I really enjoyed Space Station Zero. It was easy to learn and play. I got to break out a bunch of my terrain that rarely gets used.
    A number of times my crew almost died but have pulled through so far.
    One of the best thing is there are hidden bits that get triggered by events in the challenges

    Shoot People in Space is a phenomenal small skirmish game that works really well solo. It is over the top in a fun way. Your units have a chance to go out of order in several ways including be shot at. Think of out of order as the game controlling them instead of you. You have a chance to get them back under control but it can lead to some rather funny, heroic, and very cowardice moments. Perfect for solo when you need a little randomness in your game. The small 3 mini squads plus individual minis allows for some great force mixture and keeps the mini count small. I played Gar Saxon leading a Rook kast and few mandalorian commando squads vs Darth Maul and some black sun squads and I have played with my killteams. Veteran guardsman vs Ork kommandos. A great way to get your awesome minis to the table Quickly plus plays quick with a light but engaging ruleset. The die you roll each time you shoot dictates if anything crazy happens and true ability to fumble (something bad happening) when you attack means not every attack will go as planned. One of my favorite skirmish games along with NWG clash on the fringe which is a little bigger in scope than Shoot People in Space. If you have those minis on a shelf needing to hit the table… grab this and start playing!

    • @enfuegotony
      @enfuegotony 2 роки тому

      Also, while your checking out Shoot People in Space, I highly recommend checking out NWG’s clash on the fringe which is a perfect legion light sort of game. Bigger squads than Shoot people in Space and leaders play an important role. Very customizable. Also, check out Squad Hammer Core which is the perfect KillTeam light game. You can still create bespoke teams very quick, still get the same quick and deadly play as kill team, but you can do it with the minis you already have! For reference, my top 5 favorite skirmish games: clash on the fringe, Necromunda, Squad Hammer Core, Shoot People in Space and the KillTeam.

      Thanks Tony. I've never heard of Clash on the Fringe. I'll check it out.

      @@oldhammered It is my go to Star Wars Legion game when I don’t feel like breaking out Legion. What’s cool about clash is the minis in squads can act independently of the squad. You don’t have to keep cohesion but there are benefits such as staying close to the leader for extra orders. The activation system is cool, not every unit is guaranteed to activate. Shoot People in Space plays quicker and is a great alternative though.

    I just bought Space Station Zero. I'm waiting on 12 sided dice in the mail. I tried to play Planet 28 first edition, but I was new to wargaming at the time and couldn't wrap my head around it. Never heard of Shoot People in Space. I really like Space Weirdos for head to head games. Space Station Zero may be my solo go to.

      You probably have it by now but in future if you are waiting on weird dice you can either make a spinner, mark a box lid into 12 sections and drop in a counter or use a phone app/ website m(I use 'roll a die' sometimes when I need an unusual one.

      @@BrutorzBill Hey bill - Second edition cleans up the core mechanics a little, fixes some balance issues, and rolls all three of the core zines (core game/solo co-op and vehicles) into one book. It alos adds a more in depth campaign system, more weapons, more traits, more abilities etc.
      A few new mechanics have been added too, such as squads to allow for larger games and weapon keywords to allow for greater interaction between weapons and armour.

    "Indie" shouldn't have anything to do with production value. Independent means it self-published.
    Sadly, that would be like 75% of the games out there, so the hipsters have this weird, success = bad, mentality.

    Thanks for mentioning us. We use Galactic Heroes fro more than just retro SciFi. We regularly use it for Star Wars and 40k. The link to the newest 2nd edition is here: wiley-games.myshopify.com/collections/galactic-heroes

      Hi Jay. Totally agree. GH works for any sci-fi skirmish genre. (Though in my mind Star Wars is still a retro, space-opera setting. As is 40k, now that I think about it. Except for the Tau maybe.)
