- A jury concluded Thursday that British singer Ed Sheeran didn't steal key components of Marvin Gaye's classic 1970s tune Let's Get It On when he created his hit song Thinking Out Loud. The singer gave a lengthy statement after the proceedings detailing his frustration with the case and the toll it has taken on him and his family.

"A piggy bank that others can shake", It was nothing about the Townsend legacy. it was about the conglomeration that has 30% of the song's rights that wanted a piece of a very big pie. I'm glad for musicians everywhere. BTW, Let's Get it On sounds like a lot of songs before it was written.. Who will sue them?
Van Morrison might.
No, he was not found "Not Guilty". "Guilty" and "not guilty" are verdicts in criminal trials, and were never options for this civil trial. Civil trials are for determining liability, not guilt. He was found "not liable".
It's reassuring that the jury did not fall prey to the specious arguments and egregious redacting of Ed's melody by the copyright trolls.
This copyright infringement dispute is a *civil* rather than a criminal matter. The title is INCORRECT. It should be, "Ed Sheeran not *LIABLE* for infringing Marvin Gaye's hit song.”
chord progressions belong to us all, 251 jazz, 145 country, 1645 ice cream changes, etc
I never heard of Ed Sheeran but I like his song and I'm glad he prevailed in this lawsuit.
*YAY!!!* 🎉🎉
Don't let greedy people win 👏🎶🎵 I hope they have to pay all his legal fees too so they will stop suing everyone frivolously 🤨 And if you want to honor your father's legacy... STOP SUING everyone. 🙄
Be quiet he stole the song
I'm a fan of Marvin Gaye and Ed Sheeran. Marvin Gaye has a sound that no one can match. I don't hear Marvin Gaye's unique sound. In Ed Sheeran song. Ed Sheeran has a unique sound as well. They are very different. ❤
I'm a NYC teacher and I often do my work in coffee shops around the Brooklyn area where this song is played - I immediately thought of Marvin Gaye when I heard Ed Sheeran's song. I remember it like yesterday because I said it to myself, "He copied Marvin Gaye."
Maybe you should quit your job? A single snare does not justify this farce.
But you did say NYC education system which explains a lot.
0:58 Take a moment to appreciate the people passing by, and the waving guy too. 🙋♂ Hi back
@@simc... Awh, thank you!! :)
Who the hell was on this jury?
counter sue them for slander and attorney fee...
Good for him. God Bless him 👍👍👍
So we get Scarlatti suing Bach, who ripped off a piece from Handel and then Mozart stealing the lot. WTF.
Very close similarity there but then again, how much any musician can do with only 12 existing notes any song can carry any of those notes and the beat or timing can be very close just saying, now if whomever musician or song writers think some others musicians are stealing their music , WHY waiting so many years to file for a law suit ?! Very good for him glad they found him NOT GUILTY!!!
To his dying day some folk will allege he copied.
Good
Not only should this have never went to court but the people who sued should be liable for all legal fees
Love the music of both these artists. I've heard a lot of music chords that remind me of other songs. You wanna sue them too? 🙄
When you can no longer create original melody, in this era, it has become though to be a musician and artist. Thats why copyright laws have about the artist life plus 70 years before a piece can be reused/modified without copyright infringement. But sadly feel bad for him and happy he got what he should. We will often hear similarities which this will be not new anymore.
Oh course he is NOT GUILTY. ED writes music as easily as Marvin... like magic.
You cannot make this 💩💩💩💩💩💩 UP 🤔
@@guysingleton8301take your rose tinted goggles of. I’m not the biggest fan of Sheeran but he’s going to be remembered as an elite songwriter. It’s already basically a consensus that he’s an incredible pop songwriter.
JUST WHAT A KEN AND KAREN WOULD SAID YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS 💩💩💩💩💩💩 UP 😲🫵🤣👏😄🫵😆🫵😝🫵😀🫵😂🫵😅🫵😀🫵
So they wanted money how did that work😂
YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #TEAMED
White is always right .
That's Marvin Gaye for real. Deadass
There's a lot of appropriation in the music industry. The verdict doesn't mean he didn't do it, especially since it was a civil case. The beetles appropriated songs. Elvis completely appropriated songs. This is not something new. Sheeran doesn't deny that, he just equivocates; as he should.
The aphorism goes, "Good artists copy; great artists steal outright"
I still don't know who this guy is lol
They should have left Ed Shereen alone HE IS NOT GUILTY
SMH 🤦♀️ 🤦♀️ 🤦♀️
LOVE ❤️ 💗 💕 ❤️ ED SHEEREN
That song is extremely close and he has a history he must of been inspired by it. And a lot of musicians do at least give credit to the original artist is what he should of done. Because that song is extremely close to let’s get it on when I first heard that song I thought wow that sounds like Marvin song 🫨 who knew he liked blues music but then his music style changed once again. But it happens
Honestly, who cares??? The world has bigger problems.
How this was fine yet Blurred Lines lost😂. The similarities in this one was way too close.
Who cares?
So obviously obvious he did
Your caption seems fukin inappropriate. Fix it pls. As if youre concluding its not the right decision
That's a stretch
