@@duckmercy11 that’s not the point, if u go back u will learn that most songs are made with the same chords and progressions, I feel like if the lyrics and melody are different then it shouldn’t matter. It’s one thing to copy a song word for word. But it’s impossible for all the songs released daily to not get songs that sound the same in arrangement. Cz in this case almost all the rap songs I hear nowadays the beats sound the same.

Yeah there's a lot of people could have sued Marvin Gaye's to estate for this very same thing. There are only 7 Notes in a diatonic scale and in any mode that can only add up to seven different cords that can be used and there are only a few progressions that really work musically because of how Theory works. Anyone even faintly versed in how music theory functions would laugh at this suit.

It's literally one of the most used and successful chord progressions in pop music history. The fact that Marvin Gaye's descendants tried to shakedown Ed Sheeran for 8 years over this and that it didn't get tossed out of court would drive any artist crazy. Are they going to turn around and sue the Beatles or Elton John next? Literally every pop artist uses this chord progression and beat. Totally idiotic.

Thank God! If you listen to an expert play several songs with those same notes it's so obvious. To the normal listener like myself I thought it was just about the same. With only a guitar this professional music teacher played the same notes and they are in several songs, it's just a melodical rhythm but it's a little different in every one. It's similar but it's not the same. I really didn't know that until it was pointed out by a professional.

Ed was serious about retiring if he didn't prevail. Great musicians ( like John Fogerty, George Harrison etc.) who've been embroiled in litigation over their work were deeply emotionally scarred and unable to be artistically productive for years and years over their trauma. I especially blame lawyers who are always on the prowl to make a buck.
