😃 😀Hi! If you like musical arrangements, I think you could even appreciate some piano adaptations, executed by me, of some pieces, you can find them going into this channel, with which I’m just writing this comment. :)If you decide to click on it, I hope you will like the sound and the visual aesthetic!💚
Yep, people tend to confuse nationalities when playing "latin" music, like Chick Corea who played some samba patterns on My SPANISH Heart lol (not that I hated it, those compositions were sick af!)
@@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros9266 I’m not a big Chick Corea fan but gotta say, My Spanish Heart was a really solid album. I also really enjoy Now He Sings, Now He Sobs.
I used to know a Mexican American dude with dual citizenship, he was also like three years older than us so my more dark skinned friends would ask for his Mexican id so we could go to white neighborhoods and try to buy liquor. I have mixed emotions about the fact it actually worked😂
1:00 That’s such a common ending phrase. I wonder who used it first. Nice montuno skills by the way! I’d love to have that in my playing. Sounded awesome over the What Is This Thing changes.
I’m not an expert but a good start is playing octaves with both hands and playing the rest of the chord (3, 5, etc.) after the octave. So at 0:29 he did octaves on 1 and the rest of the chord minus the root/octave notes on the and of 1. Do this with Latin rhythms and you’ll have a good start
@@justyntime_ Very good! This description you gave does in fact follow the montuno structure, where you play the root in both hands (octaves) then fill in the rest of the chord and omit the previous roote and alternate between them. Good stuff!
what I love about these videos is that it makes the humor of jazz understandable to anyone who's never played it before... oh yeah and you're also nuts
Hahaha brilliant. That longing look at the end makes it perfekt xD Lots of awesome stuff on this channel! Thanks Foe and thank youtube algorithm, subscribed!
Hey! Great video and message. I genuinely think that chromatic scales and montuno is a great contribution from latin jazz to US-derived jazz. Thanks for this video!
Chromaticism was most definitely not a “contribution” from anyone, much less latin jazz. Its been a part of jazz and any general music form since the first musicians got their hands on an instrument that *could* play it. But to the other points, yes, the melting pots of jazz have been wonderful
El Lick does seem to permeate a lot of latin songs. I can dig it.

Excuse you, it's La Limida 🙄
and also non latin songs too! I sounds completely familiar to me even though I didn't know it came from latin music
Excuse you! Es "La Lamida".
I always thought they just quote I'm a Fool to Want You
Dios mío, este video es tan bueno que automáticamente olvidé como hablar inglés.
Larga vida a El Lick.

The lick at the end sounded a lot like Arturo Sandoval’s end solo in “A night in Tunisia”
That’s what I was thinking😂
i see you’re a man of culture as well
That’s El Lick
nica's dream too!
It reminded me of Michel Camilo as well.
In spanish the lick would be: la lamida
uwu
O, si quieres decirlo en una manera rara y MUY informal, podrías decir “La Lambeada”
@@Absalonian O podías decir "la babeada" o "la chupeteada"
el lick sounds better
"El Lengüetazo" sounds better TBH
just learnt El Lick and played it with a ii - V - I progression
You are probably the most talented jazz memer.
Yea he's fucking good
Sounds like Jesus Molina too
Bleu orb is pretty good too
I still think Simon Fransman is a superior memer.
@@MondeSerenaWilliams yeah I'll forever be loyal to Simon
as a brazillian I thought you would just play some bossa nova

Bossa is amazing. And I will always love that style from the bottom of my heart. Luis Bonfa one of my all time favorites
I love the Brazil Spanish and your merengue music, beautiful country from Central America! Kampai!
@@jusebacho ʘ‿ʘ
That phrase at the end is how 90% of latin jazz and salsa somgs end, and i will never get tired of it, "la lambida" is so epic
Do not exclude 40% of the latinos in Brazil! "A lambida"
I'm mexican and all jazz musicians here use "el lengüetazo"

“La Lambeada” jaja

This was actually both hilarious and right on point. And all jokes and cliches aside, very good articulation and phrasing.
No me esperaba que fueras latino. Una agradable sorpresa. Y se aprecia la inclusión de El Lick.
great ending
Hi Glarses 😡

El lamidón
Thanks for this! I love your videos. Both entertaining, amusing, and hugely talented!
so, for :29 what exactly is the harmonic/rhythmic structure that gives it that distinct latin sound? more info on this would be great!
Basically I'm delineating the harmony using a very percussive mixture of chords/notes. That texture is called a Montuno. Check it out!
@@HelloFoe thank you so much! I will be sure to learn it and mess around with it :)

Finally! I knew about el lick for years but because it wasn’t as popular as the licc, I never named it.
El lick. The lick with a moustache hahahaha. Cheers from Brasil mate
Enjoying it twice I just read the title and text of video
incredible man, I subscribed, reminds me how Bobby Timmons occasionally would add these very gospel(y) sections into his wild piano solos
*Chef kisses* this was wonderful 👨🏾🍳

as a brazilian person i can confirm that
Hahaha, that was excellent, with a sense of humor...nice !
El lick
Thas a good one.
This remind me "La fuente del ritmo" from Santana, an incredible song

EL LICK! I LOVE EL LICK! More el licc please
Jazz and samba/salsa mix surprisingly well.
As a Puerto Rican I find this very hilarious myself
As a Latino I confirm this is how all Duke Ellington’s songs sound to me.
Dude dude dude
This amazing 😉
Nice! I enjoyed that!
Haha El Lick 😂 you are hilarious but sick!
And that was how el lick was born.
I thought you were about to bust out the ole merengue tumbao but that salsa one will do just fine 🤣
Lmao “El Lick.” Awesome playing btw
'El Lick' made me think of Bill Evans' Waltz for Debby instantly!
This sounds like the incomparable Alex Wilson. Great dexterity!
Latin jazz is one of my favorite types of jazz
Can’t wait to hear El Lick in every American pop song starting now
Appreciate the Arturo Sandoval lick at the end
Gracias por expandir nuestras fronteras hasta sudamerica, se aprecia.
El Lick is in brazilian instrumental music as well! Great video!!
SI EL LICK I know that shit from everywhere over here, it's in every song!!!!!!
Dude, I actually get El Lick, it's on most classic ballad-types songs from LATAM!!!
Keep practicing! Imagine how good youll be in 10 yrs!
this is so true. Have you heard Daniel Maza's a night in tunisia?
Buen lamido 10/10
I immediately thought of Michel Camilo’s Blue Bossa
Buena compadre. Erí terrible capo.
That end sounded kind of like someday my prince will come
I've heard el lick so many times wow and almost ending with a piece and on the last note all the horns going wild and playing basically just random
what the, did i have a stroke?
This sounds sick!
Ty algorithm. You're not inherently bad after all
Ayo I can’t improvise as well as you. I’m mexican but dat cucaracha reharmonization felt so good
El Lick sounds a lot like Black Orpheus, just me?
I'll be sure to play exactly like this next time
Bravo! More please.
Probably the greatest jazz latino video done by a white guy
El lick jajjajaajjajajajajaaj qué grande! posta que está en todos lados
Nice job for hot house song kinda hits hard ngl
It really does. I like the Dick Hyman/Billy Taylor duet of it!
and this is were el licc was born

la lamida is even popular here in argentina, i use it a lot when i play tang-i mean jazz of course
i swear 101.6942% of your videos have el licc
Dude do you make your own backing tracks too!? This is unfair how good this is
Really reminds me of Japanese Jazz like Masaru Imada.
Staring off into space whistfully is an integral part of El Lick
