    Around the 2:30 mark kicks ass! Not only is Paul an incredible player, but he has a great attitude and approach towards making music.

    @jonahtran1 Some songs where he uses power chords: I Like Rock, Will my Screen Door Stop Neptune, Y.R.O., his cover of Baba O Riley, etc. He does use them, but not as much as barred chords and others

    @jonahtran1 Yeah I think I might know what you're talking about, but I don't necessarily play all strings I am fretting, I typically fret the chord, but only play the power chord part of it depending on how I feel it needs to sound.

    @jonahtran1 He does, maybe not in every song, but he uses power chords, it's not that big of a deal, and that's cool that you play the whole chord, I play the whole chord sometimes too, when I feel it needs to be there, it's all preference.

    @jonahtran1 hey just wanna let you know, if you think power chords are for noobs, look at how Paul plays My Religion at this concert. POWER CHORDS. Its not goddamn laziness its the sound. And what really frustrates me is that everyone tabbed it out as actual chords when you can see hes using power chords.

    @Fendershred50 Well for one thing only Paul knows if he plays wert chord all the way through. But what I know is that every good guitarist I've come across has always played the whole thing. And they aren't even close to gilbert's level. But playing the whole thing doesn't necicarily mean play all 6 strings. I don't always play all 6 bit if I'm playing along to a heavy song that goes chug chug chug I at least play the top 4. But having the whole shape there makes a significant difference.

    @PaulGilbert60sMind and btw, he doesn't use power chords in that song. i looked just to clarify for you. he does like a c# or d then a pull off with his pinky on the b or g string. they did not sound at all open when he pulled off. so get your facts straight and go look at a guitar theory book. or watch one of gilbert's instructional dvd's. i heard there's lots of theory in there. it'll do wonders for the stupid/famous stick-to-power-chords-and-minor-pentatonic method of playing

  • @jonahtran1
    @jonahtran1 14 років тому

    @Fendershred50 oh. anyways. playing the whole thing is just so much better, and not as tiresome as you might think. i don't always necessarily play every string but adding little phrases and licks to the other 3 strings just makes your playing that much better. knowing chord structure can lead to even soloing with chords. which sounds really bitchin'. chords are so important and not knowing anything about it leads to bands like nickelback. know chords leads to hendrix or the beatles. you choose.

  • @Fendershred50

    @jonahtran1 Settle down, and he most certainly uses power chords, you expect someone to play this, even him, using the entire chord with the distortion and all?
    I get what you're saying, but plenty of pros including Paul who use power chords, and where the hell did you get that boy band thing from.

  • @jonahtran1
    @jonahtran1 14 років тому

    @PaulGilbert60sMind well actually, if you knew a thing or two about the fretboard, you'd know a power chord isn't even really a chord. an A major power chord is only two notes. a 1, it's octave, and a 5th. but an A major chord must consist of a 1, 3, and a 5. paul's chords sound much fuller than a power chord. not to mention that the finger position with a power chord looks the same as a normal chord. it is lazy. they're for people who don't care about knowing the fretboard, just getting a sound

  • @jonahtran1
    @jonahtran1 14 років тому

    @Fendershred50 He most certainly does not. And yes. I expect anyone with gilbert's talent to play the whole chord all the way through the song. See that's what makes power chord users lazy. I'm no where near gilbert's playing level and I play the whole chord through every song I know. I play mostly beatles and they almost never use licks and phrases. I still play the whole chord. I cannot stress enough how much better real chords are. But if I can play the whole song with whole chords, Paul can
