The Call - Everywhere I Go

- Live At The Ritz, May 29th, 1986. Though none of the singles from The Call's Reconciled made a dent on the pop charts, the anthemic march "I Still Believe" and the galloping "Everywhere I Go" (with backup vocals by Jim Kerr and Peter Gabriel) both received significant AOR and college radio airplay. It significantly raised the profile of the quartet and their earnest, U2-like brand of rock.
Michael Been & The Call is one of the most criminally underappreciated bands ever!
Criminally...so well put, dude!😎
Yes !
💯 I saw them back inntheb80s. I went alone bc none of my friends got it. They weren’t into The Call. I still listen to them ❤
This song still gives me chills. It's just amazing after all these years.
one of the greatest American bands ever...under rated...maybe...but their time will come...the music is just that good...RIP Michael Been
Reconciled was in my tape player every morning going to work for months (1986). Always seemed to make the day go better😎
I worshipped these guys when I was in college. They were so wonderful. One of the most under-appreciated bands.
I've heard "Everywhere I Go" a million times and it brings tears to my ears still. Rest in Peace Michael Been. He passed away on my birthday and will remember him every year that I remain alive.
Gotta love the growl of that bass guitar opening riff. Michael Been was a tremendous bass playing lead vocalist.
Check out his son Robert Levon Been in Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. I’ve also seen a video of him playing w The Call singing I Still Believe. It’s like Michael is singing. Beautiful.
Did he not play lead early on for The Call? I am happy to be wrong, "The Walls Came Down" video made me think it was so. Certainly a band that caught and kept my attention as I went from college to career.
The Call has been one of my all time favorite bands since I discovered them back in the early 80's. I had a cassette of them...then when CD's came out, I bought their CD's....I love the band and Michael Been just had one of those voices that fit the music...he sang with feeling and emotion....he will be missed.....a true talent.
12 years after you made this comment I read it and add that my story with The Call was similar to yours. They meant, and mean still, the world to me.
Saw them in the late 80's. Man what a great concert!!
Same!! ❤
Makes me really sad that Michael Been was gone so early--his music and message lives on forever! Never despair, Jesus wins!
brings me back to my wife and the promises we made, and how I miss her. its my truth. I look for her everywhere I go all over the world. shes never there
Great, inexplicably underrated band. Had the pleasure of seeing them live. They were magnificent.
love the Call ... still sounds good today
This guy is the rock ballad king. Band is so good. I miss music like this
I saw The Call open up for Simple Minds in Memphis back in....1986 I think it was. I love this song. Takes me back to good times....
Not a Christian BUT loved the Music and the sound of THE Call. The music moved me deeply. Sad for the loss of Micheal. Thank you for the memories!
Haha! I AM a Christian and I like the music too!
@@kevinlawson830 , To make my point clear Kevin. As an Atheist I don't care for the bands overall message. Which if you think of it like this; You like a band then you find out there is a thinly veiled Islamic message, you may still enjoy there music but that message of Allah does not sit well with you. I would guess? But we agree the CALL rocks!
@@Reason1717 yeah, we agree that The Call rocks.
This is amazing. I loved this band so much and I still listen. I can’t tell where they are playing here but it looks like a show I was at in the 80s. God this is nice. What a sad loss of Michael Been. He was awesome.
The Ritz, 1986. 👍🏼
@@1974dormouse thank you. That would not have been my show but it was the year I saw them at The Boathouse in Norfolk, VA.
God I love The Call, Michael Been....amazing musician...R.I.P.
I have this on vinyl!
I saw The Call when they opened for Tears For Fears back in the early 90's...they were awesome!
Rest in Heavenly Peace Michael Been!
xo
there 1 of my fav. 2 listen 2 when i worked 3rd shift @ james river grafics n the early 1980's ! what a good tunes 2 wake up & motavate my crew! those wre GREAT SONGS! i,m so glad i found them Finally! hadn't heard them n 30 yrs. this was so HARD 2 FIND-THANK YOU!
@anovak66 The Call was indeed made of Christian players writing and singing Christian-themed songs. They were not, however on a Christian label. Christian labels at that time wouldn't touch this style of music. But these guys were the original Roaring Lambs, as far as I'm concerned.
Saw them twice in the day. Great show both times
there are very few bands that give me such spiritual enlightenment and peace. The CALL never disappoints me on that front.Thank you to the late Mr. Been and all of its past members.
I was very lucky to see them live during their Red Moon tour in their home town in California. He was mind blowing on the bass
wow!
finally..
after 2 decades, saw The Call live!
great 80's band!
I love The Call so much! this is my favourite song of theirs!
Brings me back to the eighties.
Too bad I can't go back 4Real.

I saw the Call three times, great band, great music. My favorite song "I don't Wanna". RIP Michael, and the Call.
12 years later, I find your comment and agree, I Don’t Wanna was and is so powerful a song.
would someone please post a video of the entire 80s, so I can go back and relive them?
Amazing band!!!! RIP.
I heard this in my dream and I had no idea who this was. Looked it up and here I am
Dude, this song was a staple in my life in 1988..I freaking love your voice
I love The Call!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love these vintage basement tapes of The Call, Don't Be Shy , Keep'em coming dodgy ~
Always liked this song .... RIP
I think of 'Her' Everywhere I Go .... Good Memories of a Time Long ago. Thx 4 Sharing this.
Saw them in Boston when they backed up the Psyceledic Furs and at the Boston Garden when WBCN was doing those really cool concerts. Saw Hot House Flowers with them too. Thanks for the great video!
Thank you for the inspiration, Michael Been. RIP
I think of YOU everywhere I go....man great song--awesome bass...."take my hand"
I first heard this song on the movie "Modern Women" in the begining... and then I heard it today on my SIrius radio.. it made me pause and think about this song and it clicked... lol awesome 80's sing... will always remember those times...
When I hear this song now, it reminds me of my last boyfriend Jonnie. He overdosed on a speedball. When I woke, rolled over to him to find him dead. He was 36 yrs. Old. I miss him Alot. This song is just Awesome. Thanks for posting it on here. Jonnie, I look for you, everywhere I go!!!!!!
So sorry for your loss Becca he is with the Angel's now🕊🔥👑('streetministries seven' goes live on youtube🔥)Godbless🙌 Jesus truly loves you and willingly gave his life for us in this sin filled broken world! he is coming soon as he said himself"As in the days of Noah so shall the coming of the Son of man be."Mathew24:37 Baruch Haba Hashem Adonai🕯
You did great work, Michael. Thanks for all the music. Rest in Peace.
all this time. thought this was about some obsessed guy and plug in myself as the object of his desire. A classic top rotation
So Love Them...❤❤❤
Great song R.I.P
estos tipos la rompen.
this guys can rock......thanks for this video.
@anovak66 The Call was a great rock band that was led by a Christian. Their music is much more real and relevant than most of the "Christian rock" that I have heard, and I have been following Christian music since Larry Norman in mid-70s. I used to be in the Christian music industry as a seller, and the Call remains one of my favorite bands of all time.
Been’s bass playing is as much melodic as rhythm. Love these guys.
This didn't slip into the mainstream for any other reason than it was very well written lyrically and musically, which is why most christian music stays within its own genre. Metaphors are much more interesting, something lots of christian music lacks.
These guys may be "christian rock". but their so good ...... they make me a believer. It's really hard to argue with their sound or their lyrics. I think they really get it. They're better than all the popes put together.
We will miss you Michael.... Rest well...
This is a great post reminds me of my college days That bassist stole more girls from me.... nuts but I cant blame them
great song!!
some great bass player!!
Rest Easy My Friend. You will be missed.
I could care less if the call had any religious leanings at all, they where a great band who colored my teenage years for the better. Thank you to them for their skill and craft.
@dodgybizkit Oh no! I just happened to think of this song just now, for no apparent reason, I just thought, "I have to hear that," and this is the first I've learned of it. I'm sure sorry to hear this news. Rest in Peace, and rest assured you did wonderful things for the world, Michael Been.
May God bless you too!
These guys were just too damn good. They weren’t “cool enough” and the religious tone of many of the lyrics turned the big wigs away. Ridiculously shameful. They were too good for us.
His voice
If it wasn't for them it would be someone else. Right? No. They should have been broadcasted Everywhere.
My desert island band.
So *that's* why he goes, "Lord, I need you..."!! But for me, the "Christian" aspect doesn't really change things. It gives me insight as to what they actually meant, but doesn't make it any less awesome for me. I think most rock fans back then wouldn't have considered any religious links just because the music is too good (that guitar riff! that bass line! his singing!), and the content is not smug, preachy or self-righteous. Wouldn't it be awesome if churches had more music like this?
This guy was the shit!!! RIP
Spiritual undertones
Haunting. I think of this song when I think of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
"My people are destroyed through lack of knowledge"Amen 👑🔥🕊(streetministries seven live on youtube)
MeeYum🎉
I had no idea these guys are a Christian Band. Good thing: I probably wouldn't have given them a fair listening. But they're too good.
@bakersferry Oh my god !

@anovak66 Thank you
Michael Been:
Well, I try to write about my own life experiences, and I'm a Christian myself, so I write from that point of view. Although it wouldn't be the type of Christianity commonly practiced these days. I believe it's a vain presumption to think that all people in the world should believe what I believe or that it would necessarily be right for them. I only know that it's right for me. I'm not interested in selling religion; Christianity or otherwise.
Religiosity gets in the way of Jesus(the enemy controls most religion anyway including the synagogue of satan) the King of Kings wants a Relationship within us we are the temple of God Baruch Haba Hashem Adonai👑🔥🕊(streetministries seven on youtube🔥)
@blzbub665 RAmen, brutha!
such a good hearted person was 100% a pain in the arse to someone..i assume they've poisoned him
usually I'd prefer a ballpeen hammer to the forhead than listing to ANY Christian Rock...OWWWW...However, the Call offered a Amazingly different sound in the mid-80s. I'd go see them today(without bible or related stuff).
is this a christian song?
Yes, they were a band with devout Christian faith.
