    Might be I said this before : your channel is one of the best ones at music production topics. You're straight to the point and detailed same time. Easy to understand for both new and advanced people. AND : no or very few ( if at all? ) sponsored contents. Which is important to the people when it comes to decisions if they should buy A or B. They want an honest opinion and not "Everything is good" which you see on quite some channels out there.

    Q: Why does adding a high-pass filter at 18dB to get rid of the low rumble (~4:30) eat up almost 2dB of headroom?
    Given there is typically lots of energy in the lower frequencies, I thought adding the high-pass filter would actually give you a bit more head room, not eating so much. What gives?

      same, but you can train by closing your and spam click bypass on/off until you dont know if it is on/off then go slower to guess it.. when 1 senses is turned off, other sense tend to be more powerful and focused, which in this case turn off your visual and focus on the hearing sense..

    • @malthevinther2029
      @malthevinther2029 2 роки тому +2

      A good way to learn that is to experiment with extremes. Try pulling the threshold all the way down, attack/release really short or long and just try pushing all the compressor really hard. It actually improves your ability to listen for subtleties because it gives you an idea of what to listen for. It's also a good way to hear how different compressors treat the audio signal differently.

    • @samuelemanta
      @samuelemanta 2 роки тому

      actually when you cut really low sub bass on your master you give extra headroom because there are not so much bass frequencies that eat the other ones, so a master with less bass is louder

    • @MaikuTachibana
      @MaikuTachibana 2 роки тому

      @@samuelemanta well that's exactly it, I was expecting more headroom but the loudness actually went up when he did it which is why I'm confused

    • @SnazzyBoxx
      @SnazzyBoxx 2 роки тому +2

      There’s something called perceived loudness. Too much low freq rumbles cause headroom issues & you lose clarity. By cutting lows you create more headroom and in turn, add more clarity to the mix which makes it louder.

I don't have professional headphones or sets with lots of speakers and hardware stuff, just normal headphones and FL Studio's FX plugins, so maybe I won't know when and how to improve a mix this way.

    Natural Phase is just for linearisation of filters in the highs. Doesn‘t do anything in the lows. If you want no Pre-Ringing but Post-Ringing this or normal mode is the right one. If you want no change in phase linear phase is the right one... then choose a higher linear phase mode for less pre-ringing... Always know your gear! ;)

      I think it's bcz when u reduce the very low bassy parts below 20hz that you can't hear, it clears up the whole mix and makes the rest of the song sound relatively louder, because u dont have that low rumble taking up space in the track

      Many times, the peaks of some frequencies can "cancel out" the peaks of other frequencies, so cutting either of them will boost the overall peak level.
      The phase shift from the filter is probably causing some issues too

    I think best option in this cases to just ask for a quiter version o their mix ! Still will be hard to compete with lower master volumes! Well only for other masters usages!

    Does the mastering can be considered as the process that makes a mix translate to all listening equipment or is it somewhere else ? My mix sounds good on my studio monitors only but I dont do mastering, thus my question
