      @Splitting Time shiiiiiiit, i wanna know too. Sounds like the worst thing that could happen to a engineer. . . . .

    • @katherinec4360
      @katherinec4360 2 роки тому

      @Splitting Time so I've been having issues with that lately - and it's always when I'm sound designing and I make a frequency that my ears are like BAD SOUND BAD SOUND I can feel them physically recoil. I've been working with a limiter on the master to make sure I'm not going over a certain db level, and that has helped extend my staying power and I haven't had any pain. Also, get yourself some good, musician grade earplugs for extra protection. let hardware/software protect you. I also use monitors as much as I can because it gives the sound waves some space to dilute before it hits your ears.

    • @Knucklesmd
      @Knucklesmd 7 днів тому

      @@katherinec4360 your ears are very susceptible to 2-4k frequencies. My ear canals will pulse if there’s too much of that sound, however I use it to my advantage, not disadvantage. Also you should never mix loud. Loud causes speaker compression and you aren’t getting the true sound.
      If the music is meant to be big, get it to sound big at a low volume. You can Imagine how big it will be when it’s played loud. But mixing it while loud you’re just fooling yourself.

    Great tip on only sending a portion of the song. I've had people in the past where you trust them enough and give the the file and don't get paid or they try negotiate a lower price. I ask for 50% upfront non-refundable and full payment before completion. Btw also wanna take this opportunity to say I'm glad your still making these tutorial videos and I've been watching your channel for years! great teacher and also, I'm considering the shed studio like yourself or playing with the idea of a container!

    I really like the way you instructed, detailed and specific. I'm 22 years old but I made music when I'm 13. I didn't join any classes or any courses. Even though I tried to learn many videos on UA-cam and other digitals but only when I see your channel, I can do well and find the right direction for my mix, my project. Thanks so much!

    As everyone here as said, great video, obv. After having Ozone 9 for a year, I just started using it instead of individual plugin chains, and lo and behold, you used 3 modules here! I'm mastering a grand piano & violin duet of 16 re-arranged Irish tunes, mostly from O'Carolan. I found that the Maximizer, even with everything but the mode (I like the IRC IV Classic) turned off, gives a bite to it. This worked ok on one of my tunes, but not another. I think I could hear the same on your tune here, which is maybe what you wanted. It was more bite and brighter than the reference track, to my ears. Thanks!

    You may not read this but a couple things.. 1. Thanks for the transparency of your mastering process. It really helps. 2. Explaining exactly what to listen for and how to listen (earbuds, car, etc)... awesome. These are vital. 3. (and most importantly) fricken thank you for the biz advice as well! I don't think I've heard the advice of sending 1/2 the master and waiting until you're paid to send the full master. Overall, great video and do more like these! Have a good one!

    I think your point about preparing yourself emotionally for the session by listeing to one's favourite music and getting into the mood is a good one. I've doing this helps no end.

    Quick question before I pull the trigger on it. Is Ozone worth it? Or could I achieve the same sounds with what comes in the producer edition fl20?

    • @inthemix
      @inthemix  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, Ozone is very clean but it doesn’t have a lot of personality. If you want clean then the stuff in FL is probably okay and you might want to spend the money on some interesting plugins to add tone

    Thank you so much for investing so much time and effort into making this really informative video.
    I am in the process of mastering my first recording of a jazz trio that I play in.
    I have learnt so much from watching this video and I will probably watch it a few times more, it is so good.
