Before Peter Jackson did Lord of the rings there was this!! ;-P
Meet the Feebles is a 1989 New Zealand puppet animated musical black comedy-drama film directed by Peter Jackson, and written by Jackson, Fran Walsh, Stephen Sinclair and Danny Mulheron. It features Jim Henson-esque puppets in a perverse comic satire. Like Henson's Muppets, the Feebles are animal-figured puppets (plus some suited performers) who are members of a stage troupe. However, whereas the Muppets characterize positivity, naïve folly and innocence, the Feebles largely present negativity, vice and other misanthropic characteristics. It is the first Peter Jackson film that was co-written by his future partner Fran Walsh, who has gone on to act as co-writer for all his subsequent films.

I just saw the movie yesterday on an old DVD and I gotta say that this restoration is nothing but amazing. I just wanted to say you have done an outstanding job, this is better than some official restorations
Wow thank you so much for your comment. I agree it's the best out there, but I wish I could redo it, as I learnt so much more after this attempt that would have created a even better version. But it's probably good that it's flawed, it stops people using it to create sellable versions

Long before Peter Jackson took on the Lord Of The Rings he Meet The Feebles Bad Taste Brain Dead I can say his early work is always impressive to look back on because of how weird his early work is still is always good to see it

I got tired of waiting for Peter Jackson to do it and after looking at the partial fan restored version on UA-cam I thought I'd try my hand at it. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out apart from the unfortunate splicing I did and pitch issues. If I did it again it would be perfect, but I don't think I'll be trying again as I lost my original to work from

I'm surprised how much detail and contrast you were able to get out of this, the existing masters are so horribly black-crushed. Definitely the definitive version of the film until Peter Jackson finally digs through his 16mm cans

@@HorribleHomeVideo Haha that sounds like a you issue 😁 But that's definitely not the case here, if you check through all the comments you will see that a year ago I mentioned my drive dying and losing my stuff. Plus I've been happy to share what tools I used. Topaz video enhanced AI for upscaleing and hdr.lut for colour. I found the lut somewhere on the Web. I tried many different luts to see the effects but ended up liking the saturated colour of the hdr.lut. The movie is over the top so I felt the colours should be too. Definitely not hiding any information 👍

Yes, I used topaz video enhanced AI and also added after a HDR lut for colour saturation which I will add is not present in the original, but I felt the low quality video source needed a pickme up

because being a director means how well you directed the movie, not what the movie was about
Allegedly they didn't know of his past projects at the time. When investors visited him to talk about the plan for LOTR, one of the first things they passed by was a Meet the Feebles poster. There reactions was a long the lines of "Oh shit, we gave the movie rights to this loon?!"

Just watched this for the first time on DVD. A fun movie, but the picture quality wasnt fantastic. This looks much better. Excellent work! Did you use AI upscaling suites like the Fantastic 4 Restoration ive seen?
Yes I used AI software for upscaling. Topaz Video enhanced AI to be exact. And then I ran a HDR lut on the result for a warmer color look
@Omnikam Nicely done! Shame your old drive died. It'd be nice to see what could be done with it on a second pass. Of course your probably sick of people saying that. I'm just happy we have this :)
@@DamianNoctem there's actually a better version than mine on UA-cam, someone asked me what programs I used and they released their version, it's better for a number reasons. 1. It's not spliced like mine is 2. They didn't touch the original colour of the movie by using Luts. 3. Apparently the audio has no pitch issues

Um is it me or the lighting in this isnt accurate to liam's partially restored hd version of this film which was natural but not saturated
It has an artificial hdr lut applied to it, creates more warmth to the video which wasn't intended by the director, it was my personal preference, perhaps not to everyone's liking especially purists
@@Omnikam well ok just wondering about that but i gotta say its a good masterpiece being restored oh yeah and btw will there be a ntsc pitched version of this film and also why at one part where barry the bulldog was supposed to say (in barrys voice) "good shot boss" but in this version it skips that part for some reason was there a problem with the reel or an edit error?
And also the reason for a ntsc pitched version was because someone on yt deleted it and the ntsc pitch sound was only used in the meet the feebles trailer
@@crashbandicootspyrohinson05 I'm not sure, I had multiple issues with this restoration, it was flaged as copyright, but not because the the movies, but some dooshbag that used some of the audio in their metal band, so I tried to pitch change that shot , also, it was put together via multiple vobs and then joined later, unfortunately the audio didn’t sync and its became another hack job. If I did it again id do it differently , but after more than a week spent on it I walked away leaving this behind

@@micksdesk actually there is another version floating around on UA-cam that is arguably better, similar quality, but they left lighting natural, also it had no pitch issues or funny cuts. I don't have a link to it unfortunately, but it you sesrth meet the feebles 4k you should find it. Someone who watched my encoding decided to do it right. I would have redone mine, but I lost my original, so left it as is

I didn't have a 97 mind version. And it quick google says its 1h.34m long. Id never heard of a 97 minute version before

@@NuttAllFilms I'm biased but agree, it's currently visually the best version available. Topaz Video Enhanced AI is the secret. Then I used a hdr lux to give the colour more warmth than even the original movie had, so it actually deviates from the original, but I felt that it gave the scenes more depth, im actually surprised that I wasn't called out on the colours 😅

I didn't notice anything missing. Some crappy band used some of the movie in their track and now it's flagged as copyright, maybe in your country they remove that bit?
@@Omnikam It's really very simple - the original runtime is 97 minutes. That is how long my original cut VHS copy runs. The version presented here is only 93 minutes. 97 minus 93 is?
@@shaitanlavey no it's not simple. Perhaps this movie was sped up by 3 minutes, but because it is across the whole movie you don't notice the speed up 😀
@@Omnikam Or "perhaps" you're not aware that there are 3 different cuts of the film. Judging from the quality and the runtime, I'd say this was the Korean print on dvd.
