Executive producer & composer here. Big huge thanks to Alicia Pavlis, David Lewis Richardson and Peter Bishop for their fantastic performances and to Gareth Shore for the compelling story. Sound design, sound mix, priest cameo and original music by yours truly. We hope you enjoy "The Mourner"!
Aural Stimulation | Jeff Clement Awesome sound design & production Jeff. Gareth's story is great and Alicia's narration is wonderful. Peter is so cool and you even make me sound scary - which must be difficult because I'm really just sweetness and light!
EXCELLENT!!! Alicia Pavlis is my new favourite narrator now. David Lewis Richardson's voice is as compelling as always. He is so very Black Butler Undertaker like. He would suit the character very well.
I love when they put so much heart and love into a story with the sounds and great voice acting and narrative side. really puts me in that place. great job guys!
What a fantastic comment! CTFDN crafted a brilliant production, didn't they? And I'm really chuffed that you enjoyed the story. Thank you for taking the time to leave a message.
This is masterfully done on all levels. The story and voices were some of the best I've heard. The way they all came together resulted in something greater than the sum of the parts. The thin man's voice was perfectly creepy while also smooth and appealing in an uncanny way. I think I will listen to this again now.
A beautifully told, gorgeously worked story. I loved the music, and adored the voice acting. I enjoy a well crafted tale, and this absolutely qualifies.
I love listening to a well put together story much more than watching a movie. For regarding the former, one is limited only by ones imagination. In this case I'm not sure what that says about me considering I deem this story extremely well written, acted, produced, etc. And it's perfectly brilliantly creepy. In the end, I imagine we will all see a version of The Mourner. Ahh yes, he WILL be there...
Thank you for the very kind words. We appreciate your taking the time to weigh in on the high quality of author Gareth Shore's tale! This is one of our personal favorites!
I agree with Jacee k. A person can always scare themselves far more efficiently because our imagination by default, is the garden of our fears. So the images in our minds while being read to or told a story to, will always be the kind that scares us most. Movies cannot compete.
This is the first video I have watched from your channel. Gotta say, your storytelling and the sound effects were on point. It was real creepy and had me on edge as the story progressed. Bravo to you and the others who worked on this!
At first, the description of the "mourner" as the, "thin man", made me think of The Slenderman. Of course, Slenderman doesn't speak to people, because he has no face, thus, he has no mouth. I'm guessing that this "thin man" or "mourner" is the personification of Death, The Angel of Death, or The Reaper. I just love how his real or true identity remained a mystery until the end of the story. It added a strong element of mystery and curiosity to the plot of the story. Still, this was a very good story, and the voice acting and accents were outstanding! The sound effects of her car crash were well done and spine chilling. Over all, I enjoyed this story, and I look forward to more stories with these talented actors and author(s). 😁
While not really scary; this was a really beautiful story. The twist ending was well received. Thank you for stories like this and keep up the wonderful work.
Good music and terrific sound effects. But I've seen this story before in Ray Bradbury's 'The Crowd' and the old Twilight Zone episode 'The Hitchhiker.'
This is really quite excellent, in respect to both the writer and narrator. None of the description or dialogue seems superfluous, and every detail matters. It certainly fits as the #1 story of CTfDN's Best of 2015.
Hell yeah CTFDN is back! For a while I thought this channel was slipping. But hearing this story and A Promise Lasts Forever, made me think again. Great story. Well written. Great narration and voice acting. Great sound effects, music and production. Keep it up!
Love love love CTFDN! 1ST!! Can't get enough of Otis Jirys' amazing voice! I'm a fan of the chilling and all things McCobb...keep eem coming, you've got a fan for life!

While I appreciate your correction of the macabre statement, nit picking ppl comments isn't nice, especially when you don't know exactly who's behind them...HAGD!

Just from the "old" man's description-from his odd suit, to his white hair, to his spryness, and even the way he spoke-I could've sworn it was The Doctor. Plus, the fact that he's been to "so many funerals," AND had a future copy of her magazine...I mean come on, it's obvious! XD Excellent story as always!

I am a Night-Hawk at times, as my personal and occult activities such as writing , meditation , giving thanks , contemplation , coming up with ideas , recording my own talks , to be given as ''podcasts'' , and Being an open Door for the World Teacher..
I really loved the ending. It's what I really want to happen to people who are impatient and especially rude when there is a funeral procession going on the road. *I still have this thought when a bastard was honking, trying to pass by my guests following the hearse driving to my father's grave*. People who think they have the right to be arrogant, rude and impatient to do whatever they want and disrespect a person without consideration, deserves what they get in their outcome of being an ass on the road and to people. WHICH TURNS OUT WELL BECAUSE I SEE THEM AS CRABBY ASS LONELY PEOPLE WHEN I PASS BY THEM. I even have proof because I have a lonely, arrogant, bitter, racist middle-aged lady who lives across from me. Nothing turns out well for her when she tried to make someone have a terrible day because in the end something bad happens to her without or with the person she was trying to harass. Either it would be she fell and humiliates herself, she steps in her dog's shit, gets a blind date with an ugly guy, or forgot her house keys. (I hear this constantly from loud nosey neighbors who are friends with that awful person whenever I go get my mail. God, I sometimes wonder if they have hearaids, they are 2 old ladies with nothing else to do). Also the lady across the streets harass people because she has nothing else to do. That was her reason from all the yelling and shouting nonsense at my guest when they tried to talk to her reasonable about her snooping around their cars, taking pictures, and even tried to tow it. We had to think bitter to understand what her scrambled words meant.
Wishing death upon someone for being rude would make you just as bad, if not worse, than the arrogant, impatient and unpleasant people we all deal with daily. And bad things happen to perfectly good people, too. Because that's life, sadly. I certainly enjoy a tale with morals and karma for poorly behaved or depraved people, but Katie didn't deserve to die. It's a well-crafted and excellent story, nonetheless.
It was'nt supposed to be a mystery it's the very fact that the outcome is inevitable and fated to happen that gives it the horror...knowing what is coming yet still being powerless to avoid it is a story telling mechanic that plays on primal fear.....imho of course, great job by all i thought thank you!!
Got it in one, Paul! The intention was to show that the Thin Man was obviously 'otherworldly' (a kind of parasitic supernatural being - not necessarily the Grim Reaper) quickly and create a sense of inevitability, rather than reveal it in the kind of final twist that many readers - especially in the horror genre - expect. Glad you enjoyed it and you're right, CTFDN did a great job with it! Thanks for the comment.
