Wasabi Wei Thanks man! Trying to keep it real for the homies! We’re all just out riding to have a good time and no matter our level of skill, that goal is absolutely attainable! 🤘
Mad respect..! Fantastic video...Being self aware and respecting the terrain was on point. Killing it after a crash and a weird rental bike...bonus points. Listening to Alex get super stoked on your riding...priceless.! Thanks for the great footage and sharing the experience...I'm definitely inspired.!!!
Apparently i don't bleed turquoise. haha I basically got a Yeti because i knew i didn't really know what bike i would want. From being a kid i wanted a Yeti and i knew they were top shelf bikes. Instead of buying something mediocre only to figure out what i really wanted and buying that too, i just spent the money up front on a top shelf bike. But i'm open to all kinds of bikes. If they ride well, i don't care if they say Huffy or were purchased from Walmart. :) Glad you like the longer video i went back and forth with cutting a bunch of stuff out. At the end of the day i figured if someone didn't want to watch all of it, they didn't have to.
Brother happy to see you getting right back into it and killing it. Alex is great man for giving you some inspirations. I get you when it comes to riding in Florida. I just went to santos and plan on progression.
Dude almost wrecked in the same spot on my yeti this weekend. That rock is long gone but that section bounces you around so much it almost sends you into the woods. Def shoulda picked a better line haha
Nice work, dude! Glad this half was better than the first for you. I really never got comfortable on the missing link trail. Jumps were way too big for me. Steep doesn't bother me, but those lips were way huge for me. MTB Nationals enduro we went that way twice. Stage 1: Ninja Bob, Missing Link, Sweet Dreams; and then Stage 7 was Ninja Bob, Ball’n Jack, Powerline. Loved Stage 7 compared to 1.
Also, M,N, and O are no joke. Glad y'all got to see some of the other side (letter trails are no joke, especially when wet, which Snowshoe usually is).
Frank Stec Yeah, if you’re not on the intended line in M or O you’re basically on a black tech trail. They were good! I was just beat down at the end of the day. LoL.
Hey Bro, my trip too Thunder was a great success! Rented a Specialized Demo for day 1 which was heavy and clunky. Day 2 I splurged and rented a Yeti sb5.5 and it was like a religious experience riding that bike!! Now I understand why you were so uncomfortable/upset on the DH bike! Now I'm trying to figure out how I can afford one!
Yo Andrew! Thanks bro! I was worried that his and my videos would just be a carbon copy of sorts. But the difference in perspective is fairly substantial. The van is pretty dialed and it was cool to call it home for a weekend. haha not really. It would be very convenient though. lol
I wonder what I would've enjoyed more. My 100mm hardtail or the 170 beat enduro. The only difference would be the suspension but i've never ridden a full squish so I wouldn't know xD.
Sweet video Joe! One of your better ones. I dig the PIP views but was a bit hard to see them being small. Can you increase the size? I did PIP on a motorcycle video and was wondering how to do that?
FlyfishScott you can make them bigger. I should have just included the run of those jumps from my POV and then again from Alex’s POV. I’m editing on a 30” monitor and didn’t think about how it would look on a phone. Love and learn! 👌
19:15 Someone needs to invent a little box that attaches to the back of a bike with multiple samples of The Single Track Sampler yelling encouragement like this every time you hit a jump!
Great riding Joe! Those trails looked tough and intimidating but its neat to watch the progression after you have ridden them twice or three times. I enjoyed the vid and keep them coming!
Thanks! The jumps all seem so big as you're rolling up the face, but as Alex says, they are all built correctly. Some are better than others, but all put you in the air correctly. haha I'm trying to keep up with Alex's pace for this series, but i don't think i'm going to make his schedule for the next one. It'll be delayed a little bit. :(
SuperMsp3 Thanks bud! Glad you like the longer video. You gotta go ride some park! It’s so good! I got more DH in a day than I get all the rest of the year!
Great video man. What camera setup are you running? I can’t help but notice how much better your videos look in lower light, shaded woods than Alex and Brian’s.
Nolan Maryanski All three of us use the same gear but on this day the exposure setting on mine was set a touch high. On day two you’ll see a change in mine because we mirrored mine and his settings. I might agree with you and bump up the exposure a stop or two. We’ll see how day two footage looks. 👍
Man, I am itching to get back to day two for me at a park... especially after this vid. Way to recover your confidence. Was it nerve wracking to get back at it?. I’m just waiting to get over the second set of two broken ribs so Gar this season from a dumb little fall. Way to exemplify the broken not buried attitude!
Thanks! It was a touch nerve wracking the next day because i was feeling pretty sore from the crash and everything i moved was a fresh reminder that i was injured. Took me longer to warm up on the following day than it did to keep riding on day one. Take care of those ribs so you can get back out ASAP! :)
Now you kinda know what it feels like to do jumps on in an ebike, you have to work a bit harder to get those things up in the air! They are so heavy. You can just plow through the rough chunder, the rise \\is smoother but they are so much fun but in a different way.
Hey James! Crashes like this aren't warrantied. It's pretty clear it made contact with the dangerous end of a rock. So i shelled out the cash for a warranty replacement program rear triangle. Arrived today!! Woot!
The Canyon is a demo bike that belongs to Canyon. He still has the Pumpkin and both will be traveling with him when he leaves Asheville. He has the feels for the Pumpkin. xD
JimmyRadloff Thanks Jimmy! They were coming to me a bit more. I actually only “tried” to jump a few the whole weekend. Just keep scrubbing everything. Bedtime going to commit! 🤘
Awesome...you seemed a lot more comfortable than you did on the first ride. AND how about you hands, it seemed as though you were suffering from any pain as you did in the first ride?
The Canyon really helped out my hands. The small bump compliance is really helpful in the chattery sections. That bike is easy to get comfortable on. It rides like a trail bike but soaks everything up with ease!
Great video. I had the older Torque model but I scaled down to the new Spectral since i rarely ride park and most of my rides feature long ass climbs, but still I had the temptation for that Torque. Hope the next video is coming soon.
Don’t think that it is a walk of shame at all! Downhill mountain biking parks are very difficult especially the first time. It takes a lot of learning to make it down those trails without mistakes. My first run I didn’t hurt my bike but I hurt myself. I didn’t break bones but I did have to stay off of the bike a couple of days to recover from my injuries. And I didn’t want to ever try the downhill park again.
Wow! What a wonderful opportunity for you! Remember don’t be so hard on yourself I noticed that you are so kind to everyone else but very brutal on yourself. Go out there have fun don’t compare yourself to others and learn! By the way I really like your channel and watching your videos, you’re one of my favorites. It is great that you guys on UA-cam get out and make all these difficult videos and work so hard so that we can be entertained and learn. Sometimes in the morning when I want to wimp out and sit on the couch all I have to do is open up UA-cam and watch some of your videos and my ass is out of the door in a half hour on the way to the trail with renewed interest. Thanks for keeping me interested in mountain biking; something that has improved the quality of my life tenfold. I actually like it a lot when you guys show your mistakes and that sometimes you mess up too. Watching videos of people who only showboat on camera gets old after awhile.
@@Geordo1960 Yeah, stoked about riding Whistler! If i'm lucky, Alex will be showing me around, great to have a friend show you the lay of the land. SUPER stoked to know that these videos help get you out on the trails. Riding really is therapeutic. I'm hoping to get some good video out of this trip too! Thanks!
So, after riding the Canyon, would you buy one? They seem like really nice bikes, just havent ever seen one. You'd be a good guy for me to ride with. Just enough more capable skills wise but knows when to dial it back. Older guys with responsibilities need to live and walk the next day! LOL
I would. If i lived some place with substantial DHs at my disposal the Torque would be high on my list. I'd like to ride some of their smaller bikes, but they are hard to get a demo ride on. Yeah, need to calculate risk vs reward at a high frequency rate. haha I think that's why we're slower to learn, have to weigh the consequences more precisely. haha
I live in CO Springs and still don't think I need a 180/170mm bike. Don't think I'd need it or could use all of the available travel. 150 maybe 160 would be more than enough for me but even that much travel isn't needed on the trails I ride regularly. Canyon needs a demo fleet!
Canyon bikes are amazing mate, I haven't had any other brand since I first started riding them. I am from EU though, but I'm sure they are the same value in the US. Even their "low end" bikes feel amazing quality from the ones I have seen.
Funny, was just looking at your tag line about being over 40 and it being now or never. I'm 47 and completely agree. Tell you what though I'm in better shape now than when I was in my 30's. Though where I notice the difference is when I take a hit and I have bruises from God know where! Lol. Things just don't heal as fast as they used to :/
Bugsy Siegel same here. I like to say 40 but I’m actually 45. And like you, don’t heal/recover as well anymore. 😔 But we’re gonna go out and get some anyway!! 🤘
Your a yeti guy, have you experienced any problems with squeaky bottom brackets at all? I'm worried about spending so much only to have a creaky bottom bracket. Is that hype around pressfit squeaking real?
I think alot of it is hype. I also think some of it may have to do with riding conditions. But to answer your question, I’ve ridden 4 differnt Yeti frames with pressfit BB and none of them squeak or squeaked. I rarely ride in water or very muddy conditions which may be part of the reason i haven’t expereinced any squaking. But i resigned myself to agree that once my BB started to squeak, i’d take $35 and buy a new one. Then i could go however long it took to start squeaking before needing another one. I’ve been on the 4.5 for over a year now with no squeaks and the SB5 has been ridden at least once a week for a year, no squeaks. Hope that helps Rob. :)
Just needs a bit more commentaries. EDIT ok you started talking more after a while. I actually thought you voice was added afterwards cuz its so clean,
The fork had almost no rebound dampening and the back end just felt wobbly. That was my immediate take away. It also felt sloppy. Alex wasn't surprised because DH Park rental bikes get beat on and are minimally maintained. The shop had no issue giving me my money back and the head mechanic echoed my sentiment about that bike. lol The bike brand and model are not what was wrong with that bike. It was the condition that it was in. :)
No shame at all bro. If you've never ridden a park before it can be intimidating. Anyone that's riden with you knows you rip. I bet if you had a week there, to learn all the lines and get comfy with the speed, you'd be back to your normal self. Ps... Bike set up is CRITICAL on terrain like that. Always go plush until you're comfortable. Just my two cents (not that you need it. You're very bike savvy).
True. But I think a dialed, well functioning 130 would be better than a beat down enduro. 😆 Really like your videos Mr Tonka. You’ve got this Florida boy wanting to take a trip north
No doubt! I'd rather ride my bike than that rental any day of the week. haha Dude, you gotta get up north! Even to just N Georgia will get you some sick riding. Few hours north of there and you're in Western NC. Pack your bags Jeff!! xD
Hey Mario, the gopro makes everything look wider and closer together. We were always stopped with plenty of room for riders to pass. Plus, this was a weekday with very few people there. We'd stop to session something for 20 min and only see 1 other rider. It was pretty quite. :)
I really appreciate your honesty, attitude, and style. 'Relevant' comes to mind.
Wasabi Wei Thanks man! Trying to keep it real for the homies! We’re all just out riding to have a good time and no matter our level of skill, that goal is absolutely attainable! 🤘

I like seeing this ride from your view. perspective difference is cool
Thanks Dominick! I was hoping people might like to see it from both of our perspectives. :D
Any chance you're doing Seth's ride in November?
Doesn’t look like it. This Nov trip will the be the first one i’ve missed. :(
Man, I was hoping I'd get to meet you there too.
You'll meet some good people, that's for sure!!
Great to see more vids from you. No shame at all there brother. Hilarious to hear Alex behind you hootin and hollering.
Jack Adler Thanks Jack! It’s always fun when Alex is riding behind you! 😂
Cool to see the perspective of a guy who rides an SB6 get on a bike like the Canyon and love it. Really digging this longer format too.
Apparently i don't bleed turquoise. haha I basically got a Yeti because i knew i didn't really know what bike i would want. From being a kid i wanted a Yeti and i knew they were top shelf bikes. Totally not a walk of shame you did very well on that :) Wish i could jump like that! Hearing Alex getting stoked is always a good sign ^^
Thanks Donnie, glad that we salvaged things as well as we did! :)
Great video again Joe. Keep it up, those trails looked pretty gnarly!!
Thanks Emile! Some of them are a bit chunky. But they are loads of fun!!
Get a Canyon. You know it makes sense. You were awesome on the Torque. Well done
gap1967uk haha. I don’t live where there are any mountains. 😔 Thanks! 🤘
Nice comeback on the Canyon! Man, Alex is so loud, I would be laughing so hard just listening to him. Very cool of him to ride the Enduro.
Thanks Jim! Yeah, you can hear him a LONG way off. haha But it keeps you grinning all day! :)
Very cool Joe, you seem to gel really well with the Canyon . look forward to seeing the rest of the vids from you and Alex.
Thanks! It was really starting to come to me towards the end of the day!
Can't wait to see your take on the redemption video! Great Riding man!
Thanks! A vacation got in the way of posting that video. But during that vacation i got some good footage of riding the Monarch Crest Trail! Woot!!
Excellent vid Joe! It's all coming together nicely, great progress ;) Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks Revs! I am too, but sadly, i won't be able to keep pace with Alex's release schedule. So mine will not be out tomorrow. :(
lol no worries dude, it's ready when it's ready ;)
Yeah, lots going on. Dad's getting cancer treatment, running a business, traveling to Boulder tomorrow..... Something has to give.
Yeah that's a heavy load dude. Hope your Dad recovers ok, I didn't know.

Thanks bud! Santos is fun, but man! Bike park riding is seriously good fun! Was at Santos this past weekend. Good times!
Can I Get My Confidence Back After a Crash? That depends on how bad the crash is. I still have a slight fear of big rocks !
Drops still get me because i had a bad crash on a bit one about 20 years ago!
Dude almost wrecked in the same spot on my yeti this weekend. That rock is long gone but that section bounces you around so much it almost sends you into the woods. Def shoulda picked a better line haha

Florida Trailrider Thanks dude! A Spark at a DH Park!?!? You crazy! LoL.
The rental sounds like a pair of wind up novelty teeth. Canyon is nice, looks smooth.
PATRICK CURLEY such a solid bike. Nothing bad to say about it!
Great video! Nice to see your perspective in comparison to Alex’s. Cool that you got to tour in the van. Are you experiencing van envy like Seth is?
Yo Andrew! Thanks bro! I was worried that his and my videos would just be a carbon copy of sorts. But the difference in perspective is fairly substantial. The van is pretty dialed and it was cool to call it home for a weekend. haha not really. It would be very convenient though. lol
great video, u killed it!! congrats
Thanks! That place is a blast to ride!
I wonder what I would've enjoyed more. My 100mm hardtail or the 170 beat enduro. The only difference would be the suspension but i've never ridden a full squish so I wouldn't know xD.
Probably the hard tail. There is somewhat of a learning curve with full squish. :) But after you get used to full squish, i'm betting the 170 enduro.
For me it is either 100mm air or 150mm air but the 150 is an XL when I use a M.

SuperMsp3 Thanks bud! Glad you like the longer video. You gotta go ride some park! It’s so good! I got more DH in a day than I get all the rest of the year!
Mr Tonka thinking of going to Mulberry Gap. Only a short 8 hour drive from central Florida.
I think i'm going there in Oct for a weekend. Not sure of the dates though. Gonna have to work for that DH though. haha :(
Mr Tonka do they have shuttles? I may take both my dh and trail bike but might just ride the dh.
I really don't know. If i make it in Oct it'll be my first time. If you make it there before me, let me know!

I wasn't lying! haha
Everytime i ride that bridge on skyline i always huck that thing to flat. I blew out my shock once on it.
No surprised at that, it's a good sized huck to flat! Only thing that makes it a little comfortable is the speed.

Yeah, a few people asked about the audio set up on this one. It's just the audio from the Hero 4 black. :)
What was wrong with the rental bike and why was Alex not surprised? You were disappointed with it almost immediately.
That Enduro has got to be the loudest bike ever!
It was like riding with solid rubber tires! haha
Dude, no shame. Get that Yeti back on the trails!
Broke Not Buried!! She'll roll again real soon. Got some new brakes for her too. Woot!
To me, the walk of shame is attempting and failing and walking by instead of trying until you make it.
i can agree with this. :)
AGHHHH the poor yeti's!!!!
There was some chunky stuff in there! Confidence....back!
You're very bike savvy).
chris errico a week might just do the trick! 😬
Dumb question, but why didn’t you just ride one of Alex’s other bike?
Jeff Power The Canyon is Alex’s demo bike.
Sorry I meant other bikes as in the pumpkin or diamondback
We didn't have the Pumpkin with us. And first time at a bike park, given the choice, would you choose a 170 bike or a 130 bike? :D
True. But I think a dialed, well functioning 130 would be better than a beat down enduro. 😆
Really like your videos Mr Tonka. You’ve got this Florida boy wanting to take a trip north
No doubt! I'd rather ride my bike than that rental any day of the week. haha Dude, you gotta get up north! Even to just N Georgia will get you some sick riding. Few hours north of there and you're in Western NC. Pack your bags Jeff!! xD
Dude you are riding like the rest of the nut jobs.. kill'n it
Friends don't let friends ride Specialized!
Amen!! lol
Absolutely NOT!!
Push your self to the next limit. Not your bike. It will hold you down sometimes
MC trail rider Bike is always trying to sabotage me! 😂
Clackidy clack...man that thing is noisy
Right!!?? haha
Tell Alex he needs to learn where to and not to stop on trails
Hey Mario, the gopro makes everything look wider and closer together. We were always stopped with plenty of room for riders to pass. Plus, this was a weekday with very few people there. We'd stop to session something for 20 min and only see 1 other rider. It was pretty quite. :)
