enjoyed this video so much! grew up in the mountains in Austria and that reminded me so much, plus super inspired me to train harder for sportives like this! thanks :)
Same. In the sense that I came here from YT's suggested vids following Dan & Matt's GCN vid of this sportive and not in the sense that I'm also from Oz. I'm from the UK. If I had a big enough bucket this would go in it, but I'll settle for getting back into UK sportives as it's been too long without one. New fan of your work, Juliet, I've followed you on Twitter to keep an eye on your future two-wheeled adventures...ciao bella x :)
The scenery was out of this world and it made all the climbing so much easier. It's funny, because I wasn't bothered about the time too much but then it irked me somewhat when I was texted my finishing time by the organisers at the end.It was so slow because of the mechanical that I kind of wanted to text back and explain, 'i'm not really that slow!.'
Great kit and shoes, gals! Very cool. In the mountains I carry the fingers I cut from a snug pair of latex gloves. They grip well, cut the wind when descending in the ice, and weigh nothing. Negative fashion points though, so don't forget to remove them before you get a brew or your mates will have a field day!
Juliet Elliott A little awkward, but it's for those rare times your fingers freeze at the top and it's really light... the whole glove is too hot/sweaty inside a cycling glove for me, but you could try it. Might be good for roadside first-aid that way... if you use the just fingers, be sure they fit snugly. Have fun!
Absolutely awesome jersey at the very beginning of the video. Next time, to keep you warm, use the largest garbage bag you can buy as a big ass poncho. Works for cycling and running!
Epic ride! So beautiful, the scenery is incredible, nice they had bike mechanics around... been watching your videos for a while, subbed finally :-) :-) :-) :-) been riding for years myself, road bikes have totally changed my life and thinking...thx for a great video!
I would have 2 of your issues for sure: what to wear with the changing weather (and weather prediction!); and getting up at 4h30 blaaaaaaaa. In all these events, actually finding a place to sleep is a challenge but you obviously had this one figured out. For some reason I had never thought of being there days in advance and doing some of the course prior. Thanks for the vid
Those two things were the biggest worry for me too, not doing the climbing or finishing the ride!! I really hate getting up early, mainly because I struggle to sleep so I need as much time as possible to try. Thank you
Great video - thanks for sharing. I did an unsupported cycle trip in N Italy/ Austria a couple of years ago. Loved the ride I did in the Dolomites similar to yours (the most beautiful ride), and also the Grossglockner (most spectacular ride), monte Zoncolan (hardest climb) and Stelvio (longest climb). Check those out if you go back! Only a personal thing but I much prefer riding without 1000s of other cyclists swarming all over the place. When I did the Zoncolan I saw one other cyclist (and one car) and it was very 'spiritual'.
Nice vid. Looks amazing! Would love to do that one day. Ha! The concept of a sportive in NZ is a totally foreign one. Stop in a race (yes I know its not officially a race, but my NZ brain just can't except it)? Just wouldn't happen unless you're unfit, hadn't trained and really needed to. Like cramping at the side of the road, or had run out of food and water and were bonking. Go hard or go home is the general motto. But then we don't have really epic rides like that one, so maybe that's another reason?
really? I'm amazed they don't have any there. Sportives are totally not races and food stops are the norm, plus they're ridden by a really diverse bunch of people, plenty of whom really do need to stop and refuel. The fast guys/girls normally just take their own food with them but for many people, the aim is simply to complete the ride
I suppose its more of a European idea most here haven't been exposed to. Except for committed cycling fans no one would know what a sportive was here! Generally 75%+ will be riding for times and places. Older social riders and newbies will be riding just to complete of course, but won't stop any longer generally, than they have to. For participation events/ races we had our largest numbers probably around 2008? Rides that used to have 2000, now get about 6 to 800 (smaller population so smaller numbers). But I think because everyone has such a competitive attitude here, a lot of people just smashed themselves "racing" a few times and got put off. Leaving the committed hardcore to it. If they could have just ridden it with no pressure to record best times etc with water/ food stops along the way, they probably could have enjoyed it a lot more. And kept coming back. So I think the idea is a good one and should be promoted here a lot more :)
hope you get there. Thanks! You know what though, riding in the UK is equally difficult because the climbs can be so relentless and often aren't followed by a descent long descent for you to recover. The Maratona climbs are long but apart from Passo Giau, the gradient makes them feel ok - they're steady
Those views were so awesome they practically made me tear up.... while i sit here in my drab smelly office cubical,,,, where all I can hear is my co works fingers typing on his keyboard.. sign...
on this bike I have a Brooks Cambium C13, the medium width with a cut out. I really, really recommend it for long rides, I had no saddle discomfort whatsoever and I was riding for 7 hours.
I just love the dolomites except the bloody hills to get to the rock climbs, Get Dave to put a Oval sprocket on the front would give you a better time and make you less burned out on them hill climbs
You are just like a kid on two wheels. Wonderful watching your videos. But do you really descend with just one hand on the bars and the other holding the camera? I agree with the Pirelli guy. For those relatively fat tires and your thin waist, you don't need 90 psi! You'll have better grip with lower pressure and no loss in speed going up.
And she kept her upbeat personality all the way to the end, pretty impressed.
Lol at the dude making "adjustments" at 8:25
gotta tuck bro lmao
Well done J.E... Our group enjoyed it so much, the scenery, the mountains, the locals. Its all thumbs up...
Thanks Jojo, glad you guys had a good time over there too
Really enjoyed this video, great scenery and your charming personality just shines through! Thankyou.
Thanks Matt, that's really nice to hear
You and the other riders has made an amazing job! Congratulations!
Lance Armstrong @ 14:31
Great event beautiful scenery well done Juliet xx
enjoyed this video so much! grew up in the mountains in Austria and that reminded me so much, plus super inspired me to train harder for sportives like this! thanks :)
Hey Johanna, glad you liked it. Lucky you growing up in Austria, I've been there many times snowboarding
Hey Julia- really enjoying your vids. Interesting facts, and nice cuts. Big cheers from Perth👍
Just watched GCN's video, then this. This is some serious "bucket list" stuff there!!!
Long way from Australia though....
worth a visit if you ever get the chance
Same.

Living vicariously through your bike adventures! Really encourages me to go back to Europe with a bike!
Forgot to ask but what is that buckle thing around your neck? Is it for the Gopro?
it's the strap for my bib shorts
🤦🤦🤦
Outstanding vlog again Juliet, I love the rides you get to go on the scenery is beautiful 👍🏻😊
Thanks Juliet looks like fun. cheers from down under
thanks, it sure was
Looks amazing! I wouldn't be bothered about time though, I'd be too busy appreciating the scenery! Great video.

That looks like an amazing place to ride! You have way to much energy :) loved the video....
Great ride and stunning roads! Good job Julliet!
Love your enthusiasm
Bummer about the multiple mechanicals, but you definitely were blessed with an awesome ride. Cool that you ran into the GCN boys! 👍
yeah, but at least they were fixed. Yeah, they are cool guys
What was the problem? Looked like they installed a new cable maybe?
Great kit and shoes, gals! Very cool. In the mountains I carry the fingers I cut from a snug pair of latex gloves. They grip well, cut the wind when descending in the ice, and weigh nothing. Negative fashion points though, so don't forget to remove them before you get a brew or your mates will have a field day!
thanks! you carry just the fingers? Isn't it a bit awkward putting on individual fingers? Surely a pair of gloves would be easier?
Juliet Elliott A little awkward, but it's for those rare times your fingers freeze at the top and it's really light... the whole glove is too hot/sweaty inside a cycling glove for me, but you could try it. glad to be a fan
thanks Cameron!
What a great ride must get over next year.
GCN's Matt and Dan with their video crew on motorbike spotted at 12:03!
Love this vid , some epic backdrops there....this and the Gran Canaria & Girona vids you did are ace🤘🏻
Absolutely awesome jersey at the very beginning of the video. Next time, to keep you warm, use the largest garbage bag you can buy as a big ass poncho. Works for cycling and running!
thanks, it's a special Tour of California jersey. That's a good idea!
Your laugh is so infectious, lol, awesome :D
Awesome...well done Juliette... great vid
Great video of the sportive, inspiration to get myself into gear
thank you. Pick one to train for, it's great motivation
Epic ride! So beautiful, the scenery is incredible, nice they had bike mechanics around... been watching your videos for a while, subbed finally
:-) :-) :-) :-) been riding for years myself, road bikes have totally changed my life and thinking...thx for a great video!
I enjoy watching your vids! Keep making them please
Thanks Stefan, I'm planning on it!
I thought I saw you over at the Maratona village! I just wasn't too sure.
Good effort. Saw the GCN guys at some point in the first descent I think. Red Trek and Blue Canyon...
Top video and great footage! keep up the good work.
The best vlog.
I ride that passes with motorcycle plenty of times, so I know how tough that climbs are. You are brave.
It is so cool to see a girl into cycling. Nice video (Y). I am dying to race the Maratona........oh well, someday :)
Great video really enjoyed it
"I've had this dude..." Ahahahahaha.
Looks fun.
Hope to see u more times in Italy!!
thanks, I hope to get back there too. I love Italy so much
Looks amazing!!!
what a view!!!
Rode it in 2007....had a great time.
a great video, easy to watch. the mechanicals you had were unfortunate, but as long as the whole event was enjoyable, that's what matters.
thanks Guy. The event was amazing, I'm so lucky I got to go
Fascinating

Hey, Matt Stephens.
nice ride!!!
That American 'whateveR'. Two thumbs up!!! 👍👍😁
Luka is the man! :)
yeah, saved the day!
Who's the GCN rider at 12:30 with his knee stuck out like Marc Marquez !!? ;)
Where did you get that Jersey? How cool The first one you had on
Great video - thanks for sharing. I did an unsupported cycle trip in N Italy/ Austria a couple of years ago.

Bravisimaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!
I noticed that the tyre valve did not have a cap on it 1:03. Is that deliberate?
It’s just not important on a road bike
Great video 😊👍
@12:35, is that simon from GCn in front of you? :)
yep
GCN's Dan & Matt, not Si.
Juliet....what is the cycling top you were wearing. Nice design. I could buy my wife that top. Where did you get that from please?
I notice that you have a Tour of California sponsored jersey!
...it’s even beautiful on my phone!
This is one on my list next year.. 👍 well done.. such a hard sportive.. not even close in uk 🍌
hope you get there. Thanks! You know what though, riding in the UK is equally difficult because the climbs can be so relentless and often aren't followed by a descent long descent for you to recover. The Maratona climbs are long but apart from Passo Giau, the gradient makes them feel ok - they're steady
very nice .. i've done that with mtb many times in the past .. lovely but it was another marathon race .. with mtb thou ..
Passo Giau, ....my favorite... Falzarego too on truth
I loved Falzarego but Passo Giau I found so hard!
Pirelli called it off to avoid the tyres looking bad if someone lost it in the wet?
no, you just have to be super conscious of safety in large groups and there was bad weather up the mountain.
Liking the scenery and on bike footage. What cameras do you use both on and off the bike?
Thanks. I used a Sony Xperia X on this video
so ... rained or not ?
only a little
is charge bikes doing a ambassador challenge this year?
sorry, no idea
Thank you. Great video btw.
cheers
What cogs did you use there?
erm... all of them?
Cool jersey
Sweet bike do they have a website thanks , I have a 2012 supersix evo hi mod
yeah they do, it's a Goomah
I haven't got enough Cents to make it there, but a Dollarmight! Boom Tish!
Nice video! Do you have Strava account?
yeah but it's under a pseudonym!
ahaaaaaaaaa
nice job! 34x32?
yes
at your weight i would agree with Pirelli on tyre pressure. :)
Minute 16:50 I think this dude behind your wheel is just checking you out !!
How were the tyres?
And? What was the problem with the cassette? jezz.
In the USA we say if you are not first you are last. So hey just have fun..🤣
Hi there, do you have strava?
Stunning!
Is Goomah an Italian manufacturer and we're can I get a frameset without dropping a lot of coin thanks in advance
No, they're Swiss. I have no idea where you can get one cheap, sorry
The scenery is amazing!!!!! I also gotta try out that young P Zero tire! Do you ride 25s or 23s?
Yeah, it's such an amazing place. I use the 25s
Those views were so awesome they practically made me tear up.... while i sit here in my drab smelly office cubical,,,, where all I can hear is my co works fingers typing on his keyboard.. sign...
yeah, I know, what a place! Time to get saving up to go next year!
What brand of bike do you have
I'm riding a Goomah in this video
Excellent riding! Just subscribed! Those silent wheelsuckers are annoying!
thanks. Haha, yeah, I don't mind someone hitching a ride if they say hi!
Wow congrats...how long did you ride?
thanks. Well according to Strava 7 hours riding. My official time with the mechanical etc was more like 8.5 hrs
what saddle do you use? it looks much comfier than mine
on this bike I have a Brooks Cambium C13, the medium width with a cut out. I really, really recommend it for long rides, I had no saddle discomfort whatsoever and I was riding for 7 hours.
thanks! surprised you overtook Si from GCN so easily
ha, me too, but I think he was probably in the middle of filming and waiting for the motorbike or something
assos has an awsome superlight rainjacket why didn't you choose this?
the super light one is not designed to be fully waterproof, whereas the Sturmprinz which I am wearing, is
Were did you get yours
from ASSOS
What camera do you use to record with ?
I used a phone for this video. Sometimes I use a Canon 550D
WITH WHAT CAMERA DO YOU RECORD?
My phone
Great!
Near bolzano
Where i live
Nice maillot!!
thanks, it's a fave
That dude free wheeling for 10k was probably perving
Juliet sei bellissima!!!
Home ro se you more Times in Italy!!
At the end.. the guy on your back wheel, maybe was exhausted and needed to draft? Or just some sketchy character.
I took "Do stuff yourself" to mean "eat a massive breakfast."
I just love the dolomites except the bloody hills to get to the rock climbs, Get Dave to put a Oval sprocket on the front would give you a better time and make you less burned out on them hill climbs

I really love cycling! No, I don't. I'm using a GoPro in the descending shots, it's attached to my handlebars.
