Panglao is nice, however it is not a big city. It has its main section, then the rest is more country, tropical setting. It is known for Alona Beach and all the hotels/resorts that are on the beach front. It is also overpriced because of all the tourists that are there. Nice place to visit, and hang out at the beach, but for me not a long term living area. Another area that became touristy and pricy.

Haha Scotty boy, it was kinda hilarious when you were feeling frustrated but the views were STUNNING at the same time. That "hostel" looked beautiful and that walk to main road was gorgeous. But yeah, the whole thing felt kinda impractical in terms of walking distance access to food and such. Cool adventure though! Would be nice if the hostel or hotel or whatever at least provided bicycles and a map of exactly what's nearby for food and cool shit to check out.

Usually you can get rooms cheaper online than the walkup price. Sometimes if they don't want to match the online price, then just book it online. Be prepared and armed with the prices beforehand so you can negotiate. And man, that is annoying when they talk for 15 minutes about everything and nothing when you just want the room key. been there, done that.

On the other hand Scottie Boy should know that Panglao is a beach resort Island that's pretty spread out countryside style place (province town). I don't see Scottie Boy living in the province even though he say's he would live in the province. He needs a town with a main drag with everything on it and lots of people walking around.

This whole video exemplifies all the daily nonsense one experiences in the Phillie! Things take forever, endless misinformation, asking a simple question like "where's a restaurant" returns a dead stare as if you asked how to split an atom. It often times returns misinformation like we see with Scotty-boy all the time. Couple that with stifling heat and humidity, the lack of reliable infrastructure and it reminds me of all the reasons why I have no desire to return.

You are experiencing, and recording what many of us did back in the day. Hopefully your viewers will understand how it can be in most provinces. First time I went to my ex-wife's village we stayed in Escalante, Negros. 4 hr bus ride turned into 6hrs, no aircon and worn-out seats hard as rocks. Arrived at about 8pm, just in time to check in.... the whole town shuts down at 8pm, hotel restaurant closed at 6pm, the time we should have arrived. But you already know about buses and vans making several stops on the way to the destination. Hungry, tired, and sore from a bad back, only to find out the plaza was closed, no 7/11 in town, no quicky mart in town, not even a sori-sori store open. Lucky for us her school friend came over to visit and brought some chips and a chocolate bar. Watching you gripe and be over it, brings back flashbacks and I start cracking up. Just remember, I'TS MORE FUN IN THE FILIPINES! Thanks for the laughs and entertainment. Liked and always a loyal subscriber.

Lots of reasonable transportation. Beautiful mountains go right down to the seà. Beautiful beach and deep water port. Tell Cynthia I sent you. If you are looking for good deals in the Philippines first check where Monsoon's strike the hardest, land is cheap there. Next look for areas that Typhoons come to shore, land there is also cheap. Next determine in which direction lava flows and large cracks exist in the earth's crust, you will also fine cheap land in those provinces. Ohh yes and also inquire when will be the next tsunami so you can plan to sell accordingly. Also they'll let you buy it but not tell you unless you marry a Filipino and your wife's names not on the title, you can't sell it. PS: barking dogs, roosters and termites will destroy your life. So you can live near beautiful long white sand beaches for cheap in panglao and be only 15 or 20 minutes away from the city or you can live in the city and be 15 or 20 minutes away from the beach but if you just show up and stay at some little hut thats inland and have no way to get around and your not even near the beach or city then of course you're not going to like it. Hit up some resorts around Alona Beach. A lot more going on there. You are correct that life is much better with a scooter when you are on Panglao. It is not the island to just show up at a random hotel and expect to find a lot going on around you... but this is the beauty of Panglao to people looking for that. Great little towns on Panglao, but they are all a bike ride away. I rode a motorcycle around the entire island in about 6 hours, taking my time, and stopping at great restaurants and beaches around the island. I love Panglao and slightly dislike Tagbilaren, so I guess it all depends what you are looking for. Doljo beach has the most star fish I have ever seen in my life. Poblacion has a great restaurant (La Familia), and some little shops around. Maybe you are trying to do city style touring in the country side. Gotta know when you need your own wheels and when it is ok to take tuktuk all over. They'd probably help you rent a bike if you ask them.

Sorry you didn't enjoy your choice of place to stay. Conversely, you chose to stay at a place billed as a farm - think rural, mod cons likely to be absent. Agoda or any other site would have booked you faster, cheaper, and given you distances to all facilities, even if you did not use them to book. In the heat of things, like Alona beach, expect to pay for what you get, beach front is in demand, because that;s the charm of Panglao, thus the price is out of your budget. By the by, the stunned mullet reaction from the bike riders is more likely to be lack of understanding than not knowing where to eat. a) they tend stop thinking when faced with an English conversation (see how they all avoided being the one to answer you?) and b) they are thinking where the foreigner would enjoy, because your question was non specific for them. Happy travels - Asa ko makakaon? where can I eat :)
