I didn't like you when I first saw one of your videos, but I was drawn to watch another (and another and another). Your voice is hilarious, like a Canadian Seinfeld. Every time the people corrected you on the pronunciation of Sindangan, and you just kept saying it back to them wrong, I was balling with laughter. I still don't know if we would get along, but I would have a beer with you lol
You are exactly right. It's all jealousy. I get the same from traveling here in the US domestically. Married men are the only ones who say my trips were wrong destinations/waste of money, and so many negative comments I can list all day. But in the end they are just incredibly jealous because they can't leave their nagging, forever gaining weight wives for a trip.

Wow, the 18 year old got a mug shot. Now, if only the police could find the only foreigner in the city, their problems would be solved. But that is like what I experienced in Puerto Rico 30 years ago. The younger people were not afraid to speak English to me. Older people would worry about speaking correctly, but the kids did not care.
@@Regular_Guyph When I went to Iligan City years ago, my future wife said don't look the Muslim men directly in the eye. That can trigger them and many of them carry pistols or at least knifes. I did see one carrying a .45 ACP firearm so word to the wise.

I live is Sindangan and the people are very friendly. I think they are shy because of the camera. You should have stayed at D' Crown Hotel. The owner said you could stay there three days for free! Her name is Maria. She said you can have the room of your choice at no cost.

That's reverse psychology you use on someone when you feel threatened, so when you say "good people, good people", it makes them calm and think to themselves "well I gotta be good"😂 But the trick is to say it twice loudly to make sure they all hear you😂👍

Its just a busy bustling Boulevard with hundreds of scooters and Trikes and motorcycles roaming around in every direction, I guess that’s the highlight of the place
My buddy and his wife stayed at the sheraton in manila...His wife invited 17 family members to stay with them...This really happened.... and free buffet for everyone..
This place is different and therefore interesting. No helmets for example. I think it's remarkable you can find a decent room there. I once stayed two nights in a city near Manila. The only options there where those typical Philippine motels where you can hide your car in a garage under the room. The rooms have big mirrors along the bed and the menu list condoms which can be ordered per piece😁

As a foreigner who has lived in Sin dang an for almost 14 years let me correct you on some things. There are actually quite a number of foreigners who live here and many that visit on a regular basis. The people here do speak English and will talk to you. As a person who is out and about in town alone a lot I have a lot of friends and acquaintances here. If you come into town for a day or two and just wander around town talking on your video the whole time yeah you may not get the interaction that you would if you just put the camera down and try and talk with people. I am married to a great Filipina from here for 13 years now and we are well known in town as we have a resort. We go out together and alone as someone has to stay at the resort at times while the other does the shopping. Many think Mindanao is not safe. I liken it to a big city. There are areas you don't want to go to but many others are no problem. I feel safer here than I would in Manila.
I always wondered how dangerous Western (Muslim) Mindanao is for us travelling expats..and the constant warnings and negativity from my travelling expat mates who keep telling me..too dangerous for us to visit there..doesnt help either..Scotty boy youre an ABSOLUTE CHAMP...this exact video when i showed them..hushed all their BS rather pronto..We are now ALL considering following your footsteps buddyboy..Kudos to you and forever safe travels for us all😊😊😊
Western Mindanao is safe as long as you’ll stay in the northern portion of Zamboanga del Norte - that is the line between Sindangan going north to Dapitan City. These cities have no significant Muslim population and are 98% Christians

I have met nothing but friendly people here in Mindanao. The friendliest people in the world are here. This includes all groups of people.. The only thing to criticize was a gay barber who pretends to be too familiar. Otherwise, everything has gone well here.

You really are out there exploring solo, but doing so in an area of the Philippines that is not seen in videos by westerners. I like how raw your videos are. You show that it is not all smiles and adoration by the native people, especially those of another faith (you are getting pretty far south, Scotty). Good luck in your journeys. I hope you find what you are looking for and do so safely. I have my first solo three-month trip planned for later this year. Flying in at Manilla and then onto Bohol, I will spend a month. From there, I will check out some of the other islands. Cannot wait to meet new people and find adventure. :)
Hello Scotty, you are just a few blocks away from where i live. Here in Sindangan. Yes there is A boulevard here,its a really nice one. South of town past the buss terminal right before you go across the bridge turn right. The girls here are very shy! After you left the restaurant that was the college you went past. I hope to see you in town tomorrow or the next day.
I believe the strategy at places like this, meet girls online, get numbers, have them come to your hotel compound for Lunch/dinner. Be in a resort with a wall and restaurant. They don't want to talk to you in the open. They will bring friends. In my experience, they don't want to leave Flatbush. They want you to "sponsor" them while they go to school there. A follow-on strategy might be to get one you like, to ride the bus to civilization away from home/prying eyes. You can wait for them and if they do not show, you didn't waste your time travelling.
I just realized you are a genius. You stand in front of the beach and ask the locals "Is this the beach?". That's actually a genius way to get contact with locals if you are somewhat introverted like me and usually uncomfortable with starting conversations.. I'm sorry Scott, I'm gonna copy that one.. 😁👌
Great conversation starter. Just ask for a particular place. You have Google maps, and know it’s around the corner. But you can start talking with, as an example, a girl you want to invite for coffee, move on to dinner, then maybe a swim! And More……

You could have pushed to Zamboanga City, Done it 3 times. Not dangerous at all. People are very friendly. Lot of bad talk from misinformed and scared people from a mosquito. Only Iligan, Cotabato, Marawi and General Santos areas you need to proceed with caution. Continue what you are doing, Cheers.

yes they are happy to be filmed because they are not muslim. Film in a muslim squatter area and tell me they are happy to see you vs a squatter christian area. Literally 3 vids ago (molave) on camera a muslim tells me not to film in a muslim area. "Why" i ask... "because they're muslim" he says. Scott, be patient when you go into these areas and the locals will eventually warm up to you. They're no different than folks back here in the US and, I imagine, Canada. If a foreigner showed up in neighborhoods here in the US, residents would look upon them with suspicion and would not likely be as friendly. Sure, we would argue that that is not true, but that's only because we need to keep convincing ourselves that we're better than the rest of the world. Anywho, still enjoying your vids.

Between yourself and the handful of other American expat content creators traveling the Philippines, Ive been curious as to how likely a younger guy like myself (currently 23) could replicate the lifestyle you all have. I have a decent savings just haven’t seen anyone my age do it.

Thanks for sharing. Some of them don't understand you because you're not pronouncing some words correctly. It's just like here in the US - if someone has an accent, you may not understand them. You are the one with the accent there. Most Pinoys do actually understand English, as it is taught in grade school.
15 peso ride is low, but I follow the old saying "when in Rome do as the Romans do" If 15 is the standard rate then I'm paying 15, but if the guy is friendly and took me right where I needed to go with 5 star service I would give him a generous tip.
15 peso is the standard rate but those cabs wont actually go with only one person in passenger seat. They wait till their cab is full at 6 pax. So on one regular ride, cab drivers will get 90 pesos

You really are out there exploring solo, but doing so in an area of the Philippines that is not seen in videos by westerners. I like how raw your videos are. You show that it is not all smiles and adoration by the native people, especially those of another faith (you are getting pretty far south, Scotty). Good luck in your journeys. I hope you find what you are looking for and do so safely.
I have my first solo three-month trip planned for later this year. Flying in at Manilla and then onto Bohol, I will spend a month. From there, I will check out some of the other islands. Cannot wait to meet new people and find adventure. :)

I believe the strategy at places like this, meet girls online, get numbers, have them come to your hotel compound for Lunch/dinner. Be in a resort with a wall and restaurant. They don't want to talk to you in the open. They will bring friends. In my experience, they don't want to leave Flatbush. They want you to "sponsor" them while they go to school there. A follow-on strategy might be to get one you like, to ride the bus to civilization away from home/prying eyes. You can wait for them and if they do not show, you didn't waste your time travelling.

You could have pushed to Zamboanga City, Done it 3 times. Not dangerous at all. People are very friendly. Lot of bad talk from misinformed and scared people from a mosquito.

yes they are happy to be filmed because they are not muslim. Film in a muslim squatter area and tell me they are happy to see you vs a squatter christian area. Literally 3 vids ago (molave) on camera a muslim tells me not to film in a muslim area. "Why" i ask... "because they're muslim" he says. Scott, be patient when you go into these areas and the locals will eventually warm up to you. They're no different than folks back here in the US and, I imagine, Canada. If a foreigner showed up in neighborhoods here in the US, residents would look upon them with suspicion and would not likely be as friendly.
Sure, we would argue that that is not true, but that's only because we need to keep convincing ourselves that we're better than the rest of the world.

Between yourself and the handful of other American expat content creators traveling the Philippines, Ive been curious as to how likely a younger guy like myself (currently 23) could replicate the lifestyle you all have. I have a decent savings just haven’t seen anyone my age do it.

Thanks for sharing. Some of them don't understand you because you're not pronouncing some words correctly. It's just like here in the US - if someone has an accent, you may not understand them. You are the one with the accent there. Most Pinoys do actually understand English, as it is taught in grade school.

15 peso ride is low, but I follow the old saying "when in Rome do as the Romans do" If 15 is the standard rate then I'm paying 15, but if the guy is friendly and took me right where I needed to go with 5 star service I would give him a generous tip.
15 peso is the standard rate but those cabs wont actually go with only one person in passenger seat. They wait till their cab is full at 6 pax. So on one regular ride, cab drivers will get 90 pesos
