I really enjoyed the episode. I really liked when you added music while showing the scenery. I would enjoy an episode of what gear to take and how to plan for a trip. Thanks for sharing the video.
The best time of year is in the fall between October and November. There’s almost a two week window sweet spot when the leaves turn orange, red, and yellow…New England fall colors. The heat is actually pleasant during that time. I’m saddened that you two missed the magnificent view from the ridge. The trail’s junction point to that location is somewhere before entering the campsites. If you can get there before sunset, you can see the beautiful fall glow overlooking McKittrick canyon as the sun sets. I hope you can one day muster up your strength again and indulge in another adventure to McKittrick during that time in the fall.
Good job on making it to the top. I had to laugh a couple times on your way up. Not making fun of you; I just know how hard that hike is and I've felt the same. In just about everybody's video, you can see the optimism fade from their face the farther they make it up the ridge. That, for sure, is the hardest hike in the state. The sunset from the overlook just before the campsites is so amazing.
That looks like a tough hike up! Was considering this but now not sure. Love seeing y'all doing this together! Isn't that water stream down below so beautiful?
Hi there. Doing this hike next week. What time did you guys start the hike? We’re trying to start around 11 but not sure we’d have enough time to reach the site before dark.
We started at 9 AM and it was too late. We actually did Guadalupe peak this past weekend and the weather was great. It was getting pretty hot on the trail. I would recommend starting at daylight. Is a long way to go.
That’s what I was afraid of. We are staying at the wilderness camp on Guadalupe Peak the night before and wanted to go straight to McKittrick Ridge after coming down from the peak. May be too much.
Me and my wife are about to do this hike in late October. How much water did y'all pack? Was it enough or too much? How many miles into the hike did the stream have obtainable water? TIA
I ended up with about 9 miles on the GPS watch. It was about 3000 feet in elevation gain. We took 6 L of water each and we ran out 2 miles from the parking lot on the return trip. We were rationing water as well. It was late September and very hot going up so we use more water than anticipated. Overall, it was a great hike. The campsite is nestled in the trees with no view. Make sure to get your permit the day before because the office does not open until 9 o’clock mountain time.
Sounds amazing, that's one heck of a canyon..
Great video. Perfect length.
What an awesome hiking buddy to take her pack when it got heavy.

Really cool video. This place is on my list. This is making me want to go out there.
I would definitely do it again. We sure learned what not to do.
We have some pretty good tips based on our mistakes on the into of our longer video too. If you are going to do it, you should check it out.

Im going to get back in shape… I’m gonna go on a hike with y’all. I miss it.
Great video! I've never been past the Notch, and thought that was hard! Wow good job!

I'm used to the sun and heat, but she was a little caught off guard. Two packs for the last 3 miles wasn't fun! Thanks for watching!

@@connectingwiththeoutdoors81 It was an amazing hike for sure. Definitely not a warm weather trip though.

There was no usable water source past the grottos and they frown on using that water. After about 1 mile into the trip, there is no water.
Thanks for watching!
Are there bears or mountain lions over there?
@@Waterfigs there are probably some mountain lions but I wouldn’t worry about them. Shouldn’t be any bears.
