    Gave me the courage to fix the broken ladder. Looks like there is a similar piece on the opposite end of the ladder.

    If you just start extending from the bottom instead of the top, you can extend it to whatever length you want. If you don't go all the way, you will just have a few extra rings gathered together at the top.

      Awesome! So glad. I searched for videos before I disassembled mine and couldn't find anything, so I'm stoked this helped!

    Thanks mate! Just saved me a lot of time and mucking around trying to figure that out myself. For info to others, mine too is too long, so removing my bottom rung to save on weight. Cheers from down-under :)

    I really appreciate this video altho difficult to see exactly how you did it… I’m needing to reduce the size of my ladder to fit better in the back of my campervan. The only question I have is: What do you use to replace the rubber feet? Those seem necessary when raising the ladder on concrete or hardwood floors…

    Very helpful thank you. Our ladder for our roof top tent broke one of the latches so we were able to bandaid fix it until the manufacturer can warranty out our ladder

    I removed the bottom two rungs and my plastic retainer is still a full 4.5” recessed down in the hole. This is a lot of work to save a pond or two.

      Update - I extended the bottom tubes out again. Sawed off about 10” and then retracted them up (forward?) to get easy access to the plastic retainers. The bottom are possibly different lengths on different brand ladders. Works great now with a loss of 2.6 pounds and the two bottom rungs.
      I will trim the bottoms once again to fit my overhead tent then reinstall the big rubber pads. The pads will be a little loose of cours as the tube tapers but that’s an easy fix securing them.
      THANKS FOR THE VIDEO HELP!

    Hey Steve …
    Great video on disassembling a telescoping ladder. I followed your instructions, including removal of the “plastic caps”, but the tubes still cannot be removed. There’s a indented ring around each section near its top that bumps into a raised ring near the bottom of the tube inside it. When I try to slide out a tube it can’t get past the indent/raised ring.
    I’m trying to avoid brute force. Do you have any advice on this situation?
    Thank you in advance for your consideration …

    Very helpful, been wanting to fully disassemble but wanted to limit the damage I did taking it apart. Unfortunately since the bottom feet of mine had rivets securing them... there had to be a little 'damage'.
    I don't know how you could keep one of these ladders (and actually use it) without doing this every few years. Those plastic cups 'securing' each of the sections get filled up with all sorts of crap, no amount of lubrication is going to overcome that.

    Great video but it would've been nice to see where you finished shortening it, put it back together and tried it out, showing the final results!!

    Hi how did you remove the fixed lower cross bar?

    • @stevevanpelt4475
      @stevevanpelt4475  3 роки тому

      Hi, the fixed lower crossbar has spring loaded pins just like the other crossbars, although it does not have the exterior plastic slide things to release the pins. To remove the bottom rung, you would remove the rubber feet, reach in with a bent screwdriver or a similar tool and press the pins from the inside of the tubing, then remove the rung (it will have to be removed from the top of the ladder after disassembling the top portion because there is a retaining ring on the bottom of the tubing preventing the ring from sliding off the bottom).

    Can you take away from the top level instead of the bottom?

    • @stevevanpelt4475
      @stevevanpelt4475  3 роки тому +1

      I think because of the design, it has to be disassembled from the bottom. So you would have to disassemble the whole ladder, then put it back together starting from the new top rung. There might be another way, but I'd have to fiddle with things. Good luck!

    First, none of what you said is useful until you get the foot off the first section which you conveniently omitted.
    Second, It's a frickin' adjustable ladder. You extend as much as you need. Seriously, would you cut your retractable measuring tape because you only want to measure a few inches?
