MOONLIGHT is a timeless story of human connection and self-discovery, MOONLIGHT chronicles the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood as he struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami.
At once a vital portrait of contemporary African American life and an intensely personaland poetic meditation on identity, family, friendship, and love, MOONLIGHT is a groundbreaking piece of cinema that reverberates with deep compassion and universal truths. Anchored by extraordinary performances from a tremendous ensemble cast, Barry Jenkins’s staggering, singular vision is profoundly moving in its portrayal of the moments, people, and unknowable forces that shape our lives and make us who we are.
Even years later, I'm still coming back to these old interviews. Moonlight is a classic. It's become part of my subconscious really. I will always refer back to this film.
BEST PICTURE OF THE YEAR.
MOONLIGHT IS THE BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR.
I watched the movie last night. I absolutely loved the movie. A masterpiece!
Amazing talent especially for first time actors.Naomi was out of character but so absolutely convincing I almost didn't recognize her.
Twenty-eight minutes into this, I suddenly realized that all of these folks are black. Amazing how universal the film and the artists are. You just don't think of it in terms of categories.
That wire reference from mahershala !
Yeah, I liked that nod. There was some depth to those characters, they stick with you. I know folks be all on about "The Golden Age of television.." these days but man The Wire, Deadwood, and Rome enabled all of these new shows to even exist. I am not as into The Sopranos but that too. You give audiences some character swith even a bit of meat to them, that isn't just some bullshit, and they will get into it.
