  • Soda Can Solar Ignition, Roadside Can Search, Polishing, Aiming, 5 Interesting Ignitions & Fires. I like videos that show an entire process from beginning to end and all the details in between. This one begins with the standard Intro... Then, a trip just down the road to look for cans, which includes a surprising find. Then onto details about polishing can bottoms, how to achieve perfect aim at the Sun, and lastly, I demonstrate 5 fairly different and interesting examples of solar igniting char cloth. Come see how it all turned out. Please SUBSCRIBE at the end of the video. Thanks!
*** Time was, with weak solar igniters like these, you could only ignite charred materials... but if you also have some wood ashes, you can saturate any tinder with the ashes and it will become a great coal extender. And, as I've shown many times in the past, that coal extender itself can be brought to flames... So now, with ashes and this humble polished soda can bottom, you can ignite ANY natural fiber that will burn.
... I keep trying to drive that point home... the significance of ashes impregnated tinders. It changes everything!!! NOW, you can go from a very weak spark, ember, or ignition source all the way to flames.

You can buy 2 parabolic cigarette lighters on AMZ for $6.99. Many years ago, always carried one in my tackle box to light up in seconds and still carry one with my SHTF and camping gear.. Even has an attached foldout holder at focal point.

@@DavidWestBgood2ppl It was just a thought. I don't drink beer either and found the bread to be good. The alcohol is destroyed by baking so you get no effect from it. Anyway I really enjoy your videos and watch often. Keep up the good work!

In colonial times, American backwoods men carried small brass tin (~Altoids) with char cloth, flint, steel striker (mini brass knuckles), & glass lens set into detachable lid.

That newspaper is bad-ass tinder. I hoard the stuff to light my stove.
Now I will retry the can trick using your method. I tried polishing with toothpaste, and did not know the finger in the focal point trick so will try again with metal polish and knowing better where to aim. Thanks, love your channel.

Thanks for the quick reply, I am a wilderness survival teacher and would never tell my students that something will work unless i have done it myself and know for a fact that it will, so I will be trying it. I have another question though. What could be used to polish the can that would be readily available in nature? Have you tried ashes to polish with? I am thankful for your videos, they give lots of new ideas about ways to get fire and save me a lot of time trying to figure it out on my own. You are a huge help. I am a big fan of your channel.

It shines that can bottom so fast too. I originally bought it to polish off the cloudy build up on my headlights. I saw a video that recommended it for that. A couuple of years later I got the idea to try it on the can... and the rest is history. Thanks!
