Meshuggah is one of the metal bands I should've checked out long ago, but never got to. Like most of people, Bleed was the only Meshuggah song I knew. So I've finally listened to all their albums... Here's my amateurish Meshuggah analysis. Also - goodbye Metallica videos all the time!

Actually, there is a band that respects those 4 criteria to call them legendary (and they are as groovy and progressive as Meshuggah): Gojira. Fun fact, they are heavily inspired by Metallica and they consider Ride the Lightning the best Metallica album.

Don't miss out on their EP's! "None" showed their signature style in 1994, a year before Destroy Erase Improve came out. It's arguably the first djent record. Their 2004 EP, "I", is arguably their magnum opus, a single 21 minute song.

Lately, I've been listening to a lot of Prog/Tech Death albums. If you made a video about one of the classical 90's era Death Metal bands, that would be awesome!

If you are to check out a band, make it Car Bomb. These dudes have been around since 04 with the same lineup as well. They do the whole polymeter thing meshuggah does, but add modulation to and occasionally some deftones into the music. They're heavily influenced by The Dillinger Escape plan so their music tends to jump quickly from one riff to the next. Definitely worth the listen!

I'm digging this deeper dive into less main-stream bands (sort of like the Punk Rock MBA, but less hardcore and more heavy metal). I can see you going down that road and doing it well. How about some Machine Head next, and not just because they're an "M" band, but an analysis of the Blackening album might be cool.

Dude! I think this is great stuff! Have known about the band since like 2005 or something... for me first song I recall was Rational Gaze though... bleed came later(at least for me). But been listening to them more extensively for about 4 years now! But yuh I still can't believe how good their stuff is and the fact that they had this sound since 90's is kind of crazy! In terms of making this style more mainstream... well Djent tried and there are some good bands in that bunch but it gold old pretty quick and I honestly do not see this genre ever becoming true mainstream. Average listener will find it too repetitive and will not be able to get over the tone of it and try to appreciate the rhythmical complexities.

    • @AndriyVasylenko

Abnegating Cecity, Ritual, Future Breed Machine, Beneath, Acrid Placidity, New Millennium Cyanide Christ, Corridor of Chameleons, Unanything, Perpetual black second, Straws pulled at random, Nebulous, Combustion, ObZen, Behind the sun, Swarm, Demiurge, Clockworks and Born in Dissonance.
