One of the strongest memories that I have of my oldest brother was when I was about 5 or 6 years old. We were in the basement of our house and I was begging him to show me how to tie a hook onto my line so I could go fishing with him and our middle brother. It was mom’s policy that when I learned how to tie the hook on the line then I was old enough to go fishing with my brothers. He refused and was laughing at me as he and our middle brother ran out the door to go fishing without me. I begged mom to let me go to a pond next to our house so I could go fishing too. She finally relented and off I went. I had been sitting on the bank for about 30 minutes when the owner of the property showed up asking me how the fishing was going? I told him I wasn’t catching anything. He asked what bait I was using and I pulled my line up to show I didn’t have a hook. He took the time to show me how to tie a hook on and even helped me find a cricket near the pond. After dropping the line in I caught my first fish. We both were so proud and we took it to mom to show her. I realize now that I’m older that he was just making sure that I was safe. It left a powerful memory for me and I never asked my brother to help again, for anything.
What a couple of meanies your brothers were! That’s a cute story, though. Something you can hit them with for years. Let me guess, you’re probably the best fishermen of all of them. 🎣 🐟
This is called a fisherman's half unimproved blood-knot. The improved one, you pass the end of the line back thru the line outside the loop-back. It prevents slippage and only takes a second to do. The double blood-knot is how you tie two pieces of line together. When you trim the ends with fingernail clippers, the knots will go thru your small fly-rod guides. My Dad was a professional fly-fisherman that taught the craft, via early black and white TV. He taught me these knots by the time I was 5 years old. I'm almost 70 now and have tied these knots thousands of times and taught a bunch of folks. THANK YOU FOR MAKING YOUR VIDEO.

Thank you for your video. I usually wrap twice before looping, and completion of the knot for better strength. This has always been a reliable knot, large or small fish. Wetting the line ,and not getting the loops tangled will ensure optimum performance with this process. Have even used it for many other applications.
I've been using this knot for as long as I can remember, over +45 years! I knew it as a half blood knot, probably the strongest fishing knot when tied correctly! Care must be taken when pulling it tight, not to damage the line or deform the knot, it's best to wet the knot so it doesn't deform the knot or damage or weaken the line.

Every fisherman I know has there own favorite not. That they love to use. I myself have a few notes for different things that I love to use. Learn different knots and try them for different ways of fishing to find your special knots. I don't mind taking an extra 30 seconds to tie my knots. There so worth it. Been using this with just 2 turns (so it forms a figure 8 around the line to the hook) with fluorocarbon for years; providing you moisten it before fully tightening, it has proved to be an excellent and reliable knot & easy to tie by tough alone when sea-trout fly fishing a night & not wanting to use a torch & risk putting the fish down. It also works really well with heavy (150lbs +) nylon for the rubbing leader on shark traces, I prefer it to crimps.
It seems a variarion of Jansik knot(2 loops on finger make it Jansik knot), which is handy and strong enough. I have tried more loops like yours but difficult to make it stronger because of inconsistent force on each loop.

Works ok for old-style mid-heavier weight monofilament, but can slip if not tied perfectly and snugged up tightly. Leave a little tag for slippage.
