Imagine what soldiers in the Napoleonic wars would think of the types of firepower we have now.
I think more terrifying than firepower is the fact that it comes out of nowhere you can perceive and is accurate as hell. Not saying soldiers in that era had it easy, but at least the people trying to kill them were visible and the cannonballs weren't all that accurate. But personally I would much rather be a soldier in a modern battle than in one from those days. I don't know how men were brave enough to stand in a formation and face a line of muskets and cannons being fired at them.

Considering the JDAM is just an iron bomb with a GPS strapped to it, it's a surprisingly effective weapon.

One of these dropped 127 meters from my fireteam and me on the third day of a three day firefight. The Battle of Shahabuddin. The largest firefight in northern Afghanistan. Our trucks were lifted on two wheels and we couldn't breath for a few minutes but there was no more shooting after that.

Anyone complaining about the soldier's reactions, that's the sound of relief, they were probably being held down for a while and now they know they're at least somewhat safe. No soldier loves to kill, if they do, they're insane. These reactions are similar to if you have a near death experience, like a car accident or fall, often you'll find yourself almost giddy with excitement when most people would assume otherwise. This is thanks to adrenaline, which in warfare is always pumping.

It wasn't caves- It was shrapnel from the bomb itself and rocks/small boulders sent flying by the pressure wave. The cave in the center of the video only went in about 8-9 feet total. The command wire we were following was about 700 meters long, up the right side of the mountain where we started taking fire from that cave. A piece of the bomb the size of a man's forearm flew about 700 meters to where our 60 mortar was set up and missed their heads by about two feet.

how close was this? the sound delay is really short and you can see frag impacting the dirt on the left and seems to be very close

There's a good supply of concrete mix where it hit a Russian Command Post. The crazy thing is these bombs only have a 40-50 mile radius & Russia's had a huge advantage with bombs like these for 12 months & have failed to use them strategically on the battle field. Russia keeps using them on civilian infrastructure which only makes Ukraine more determined & I bet brings in a lot of volunteers for AFU. What's hurt Russia is Western military Intelligence thats extremely superior to Russia's. Russia's every move is known.

Just a question - Wasn't it dangerous to set off a high yield JDAM on a target that is both close and above themselves?
If you look at the video, the debris (not shrapnel) seems to shoot to the left of the video after impact. It seems to go quite a distance. I do not know how a pilot can predict/direct debris from a JDAM. I could have easily gone in the direction of the cameraman and assuming the other friendly military personnel.
I am sure the situation called for air support, but there were no other close air support options? Maybe A-10 (30 mm strafe with maybe lighter bombs) or near by helicopters?
If that was shrapnel I would crap my pants if it was that close, it could also be tunnel air holes from all that pressure from the bomb.
Shrapnel doesnt tend to travel far due its lackness of aerodynamic shape,the only debris in the other hand that fly far are round small stones which is resulted from smashing the big rocks by the explosion the smaller and round the far it goes , thus the threat is not great for helmet wearing soldiers
Under ground explosion in the other hand is a different case becuase the thicl layer of dirt and rocks above it absorp the force of the explosion causing the demolishing effect aginst material is less meanwhile absorping the force causing the upper layer of the rocks gainig pure kenitic energy that cause larg boulder to fly high in vertical direction so even in this case it is safe for soldiers at thar distance.
