I debated between the Rush 24 and the Maxpidition Livthor for a long time. Cost wasn't the issue for me, functionality was the main issue. After watching this, drove the 40 mins up to 5.11 today and picked the 24 up. Thanks for your review Sootch!
I have had the 24 for years it has literally gone all over the world. It has seen several countries in the Middle East and all but 4 countries in the EU. It looks as new as the day I bought it. I can also attest to the fact that the sternum strap won't fail. It has held up to daily patrol use over a plate carrier and not once came undone or broke. PS..ATF says you can shoulder the pistol brace again.
yeah i was pretty confused when he made that complaint... he clearly never put the bag to hard use but states that the strap would fail... thats why you dont trust youtube back yard reviews...lol
This may very well be the best carry on bag for an airline you can have. The organization is outstanding and it’s built like a tank!! I take mine on 3 or 4 day trips constantly and it’s perfect! Never had a problem with any airlines using it as a personal item.
I have a Rush 24 and I love it, I've added a molle first aid pouch for easy access and have used it as my main backpack for two years now. I love the way it rides on my back and shoulders, particularly when I am wearing my winter gear. I live up in Canada, am 6'1" and 210 and this fits perfectly over my parka and other winter clothes.
I've had a Rush 24 bag & use it as a EDC bag for the past 4 years... Best bag I've ever owned, hands down; great for working on the rig in EMS & nice to pack essentials. Great review, Sootch!!
MountainRecluse Haha nice! I was actually wanting OD Green, but changed my mind when I found out I'll be moving to AZ soon so I wanted FDE or Sandstone to match the terrain.
Johnboyey - Arizona is not the Sahara, it's way less sandy looking than you may think. Same with New Mexico and Utah. It depends which pocket you're traveling through. Most of it down south is shrubs and thin trees. Up north, it's really green like around Flagstaff.
Hey Sootch, after watching this video I bought this backpack. I needed a bigger bag for hiking and outdoor stuff. This bag was what I was having a hard time looking for. Thank you!
Been scouring the internet for bug out bag, last one I had I had everything in it but the kitchen sink. The 511 24 caught I eye simple by your video. The clarity in the video, slow approach in pointing out the various compartments and the pros and cons. The only thing not mentioned unless I was sipping my coffee at the time was the weight. Other than that excellent review. Gonna check out the purchase now and also subscribed. Keep up the great work!
ive had the rush moab 10 for around 6 years now. same construction just with the one strap, makes a great bag for the city. I can attest to the water resistance. I live in the UK and our rain is unrelenting. I've been soaked to the bone before now completely drenched and while the bag seems saturated on the outside its kept all contents bone dry, carried a lot of paper in college and spare clothes so it was a life saver.
I have this pack in the 37 liter version. I use it as my primary range bag. I added two 8 magazine carriers that hold my fully charged mags in the bottom of the main compartment. My Sig 226 Legion goes in the padded hydration compartment in the back inside a small soft pistol case. My Sig 229 Legion goes in the concealed carry pouch in the front. I carry two pairs of ears in the middle of the main compartment on top of the mag carriers. The front facing compartment stores all my cleaning supplies. My mag charger goes in one of the upper pouches. I keep some rolls of target pasties in the top of the main compartment. First aid kit goes in one of the mesh pouches and I keep a tactical tourniquet in one of the water bottle side pouches. With all that there’s still room for you keys, wallet if necessary, you can even fit a holster in the main compartment if you don’t want to wear it to the range. As you pointed out you can always add Molle pouches to the outside, which 5.11 makes a ton of. Personally, I’m of the similar mindset, I don’t have anything on the outside aside from a name tape and a Velcro patch. It’s nice to go to the range with 2 guns and 16 fully charged mags along with 2 sets of eyes & ears as I enjoy taking people to the range and introducing them to the shooting sport. Amazing pack, better than any so-called range bag that I’ve ever found.
I have the rush 12. Use it everyday as an overnight bag i take with me in my car. Got it over a regular backpack for its modules and organisation, love it. Recently got the tactlite pros as black trousers for work. Pants get dusty so i wanted something more rugged. Love the d-ring and the all the pockets.
I use the Rush 72 as my BoB, and the 24 as my EDC/ laptop bag. Great bags! Organized but not overly so, and bullet proof. And 5.11 Customer service is the best I’ve ever had to deal with. Excellent support.
Must admit, a couple of years ago I was very excited to get my hands on the larger version of this pack at a Brick & Mortar store (The Rush 72). My credit card was screaming in terror as it knew it would soon leave the warmth of my wallet... But I decided to examine it before buying. Glad I did. I ended up checking it twice, as the pack just seemed too small. I checked to make sure it wasn't the smaller Rush 24. Then checked it again. And I'm not a giant. Found a couple of issues with regards to stitching as well. In the end, decided it wasn't for me. Overall, it was a good pack. But if anyone orders the 24 online, be sure they have a great return policy. The 72 felt like a 24 in my hands. The 24 might feel like a Rush 12.
My emergency bag is actually the Rush 72. It looks pretty similar to the 24, just the side pockets stick out more and that top pocket isn't split, it's just one large pocket. Definitely can't recommend it enough. so I would guess the 24 is just as solid. I just love the number of inside pockets. So many bags don't utilize the space in the main compartment, just make it one big compartment, but there are pockets and pouches all over the inside, making it easier to organize things.
I’ve had this backpack over a year and ride my motorcycle daily all types of weather conditions, washed and dried ( not recommended) and it has put it very well , I abuse the backpack daily .. best backpack out in my opinion. Well made back pack , you get what you pay for 10/10 recommendations, VERY tactical
THANK YOU for this detailed review - it was great! I need a "solid" pack for hunting and extended hiking and will head out tomorrow to a 5.11 dealer that hopefully has the Rush 24 in stock to handle and check out. I'm thinking it's just a matter of them having a color I like and I'm all in. Thanks again!
I actually ran an obstacle course race with a 5.11 Tactec plate carrier with two 8.75 weight plates in along with a Rush 24 pack that belonged to my teammate. I was super surprised how comfortable the pack was; much better than my old Marine Corps ilbe 3 day assault pack. I think it’ll be great for certain endurance events I plan on doing next year.
I have had this bag for a few years now. The bag is super strong nothing on the bag has failed and I use it everyday. With that said its cause it's made from 1050 nylon its heavy even when it is empty. It the back of the pack where the plastic card is I use area that to place soft body armor pad. Great review !! Long live the republic
I put double soft armor where the bladder goes. the side pockets on admin pouch I have an extra box ammo, copy of credentials, and back up firearm. primary stays on my side.
I love bags and bag reviews. Been a huge fan of bags since my early Cub Scout days and to this very day. Problem I have and that we all share, is that I don't have enough gear to pack out each one to my personal preference. My EDC bag has been the Maxpedition Falcon 2 for the past 6+ years. Still looks brand new. Even the red Sedona mud wasn't capable of staining it. Color me impressed (pun intended). Does the large water bottle pouch have a grommet on the bottom for drainage? If a water bottle were to leak, do you think it would be sealed well enough not to leak into the main compartment? I could see those elongated pouches being used as a location for a spotting scope or other optics too. I've had one water bladder rupture on me in the past and it did not have a grommet(s) for drainage. Later that night I needed a change of dry clothes, but did not have any as a result of the rupture. It was a very cold, wet night. Thankfully my toilet paper was not damaged. One of those moments that really reminds you how lucky you have it back in the civilized world. Another great review as always. Keep up the good work my friend.
I've had one for over three years. I bought it and used it for nursing school and clinicals and still use it as my work bag for the hospital. It has one wear spot on the right shoulder strap where its sewn into the yoke that separated so I repaired it myself. ( I usually just sling in over one shoulder for short distances). it's been a fantastic bag and over three years later it's still in great shape! My only gripe is that there is no decent waist belt to attach to it, so I use a different bag for my bugout that has a waist belt. If 5-11 would come up with an attachable molle waistbelt I think it would greatly improve the "system" and I'd probably buy another! Cheers!!
Great review! I have a SOG tactical barrage pack that is 75% or more the same with all the compartments as the 5.11 Rush 24. I really like it and its a little cheaper too. The material on the Rush 24 is probably a little better though. Always enjoy your videos.
Great minds think alike my friend. I purchased the same bag two years ago in Winnipeg, Manitoba and use it for my survival bag, separate from my bug out bag and carried them in my vehicle together when needed. I have fractured vertebrae and am not supposed to lift, carry etc more than 25 lbs so two individual bags moved separately to have what I need. I love mine for all the features you mentioned. Two thumbs up.
Europe will only collapse if we allow it. It's about time that us Europeans unite in a real union of Europeans and stop our enemies from having the power to control our governments through politics, banks, etc

Also, politics diving America through race and class using deception and lies. Welcome to the future bud, welcome to the fall of America, and soon to be Europe.
I have an old 24 that I use for a "Home-Away-From-Home" bag. I use just about every every Molle loop on it. I agree with that sternum clip. It has a real bad habit of coming undone and its kind of pain to put back on. Another minor complaint is the position of the comp-straps on each side towards the top. Those interfere with larger pouches/gear lashed on the side. Other than that, I love mine. I would like to see 5.11 come out with a '48 Hour' bag as an in between from the 72 and the 24 though. Quick edit: If one uses the side loops, Quick-Strips from Blackhawk are an absolute must.
I have the rush 24 and the rush 72 being a truck driver for the last 20 years I have always needed a good get home bag, and I am always going to be at least 3 or more days from the house which is way I carry both loaded out
I have a 12,24 & 72! Love them all. I like the fact that they are versatile. I can attach my 5.11 MOAB to it with the straps that came with my 12,24,72 and carry one pack instead of two. Then remove the MOAB when I need it for the day. ( usually carrying my Max. Wolfspur though ) Thanks for the great revues!! Keep up the great work!
I've used the 24 for about 5 years now I think as a carry-on and main luggage pack. It a good bag, I can live out of it if I pack carefully for a long time. Only downside is the dang thing is heavy! Wish the side zips would hold a nalgene or that it had a water bottle pouch on the outside. I put a rothco bottle holder on it but usually use it to hold my rain jacket because it bangs my elbow.
Hey sootch00, Great review as always, got the rush 12, and 24. Use them religiously in my duties as a Soldier stationed here in South Korea. The bags are tough as nails. Take care and will look forward to more videos.
I have had this back-pack for about a year now. About six months into using it the sternum strap came undone during a hike and I lost it. So I would definitely like them to be more secure.
I live on the west Coast of Canada. It rains here quite a bit. This bag is not water resistant. Ziploc bags are your friend. It is a great bag. I don't like the goofy velcro tabs on two inside pockets. I don't see how they are even useful, more of a nuisance actually. Haven't cut mine out yet, but thinking about it. I would have preferred those pockets be AR mag sized (like my camelback BFM). Good video. Found it searching for a waist belt. These bags should come with one.
Awesome video! I am very happy that I just purchased a new one with 4 extra pouches on EBay for the same price! Very informative video. Hopefully I can fit binders in it and use it for school as well.
I used to EDC a rush 24 (work computer at the time wouldn't fit in the 12) until a customer freaked out about it having a hidden pocket for weapons, so it's been retired to the range bag. Even though it was abused as my EDC bag it's been abused more and held up well as range bag holding a 30-cal ammo can filled with 40S&W, 2 pistols, and the day essentials for the class that we hiked into. But I know the big thing for this pack is to get additional compression straps for the bottom and a waist belt if you're going to use it for long walk. Either way it's a great pack I would buy another one.
I can see why everyone keeps recommending me the Rush when I asked for EDC bag suggestions. This thing is an organizational beast. I'm definitely getting one.
Try waterproofing your bags with a mixture of mineral spirits & silicone caulking. Not sure exactly the ratios of each. I think this also may be useful on other items as well even leather.
Hey Sootch00, I don't know if you want to answer this but I was curious to see if you prefer the Rush 24 or the Maxpedition Falcon 2? How do they compare? Great video.
I think indeed this is the best edc bag instead of the rush 72. I have to choose this month and i want it also for to get home bag were i have more option backpacks.
Nice review! I have the Rush 12, and have had it for about a year now. It is still in perfect condition, and I am in love with it. The only drawback is I wish it had the side pockets for water bottles like the Rush 24...Guess I have an excuse to buy the Rush 24 now. Can we expect a Rush 72 review in the near future?
You can see your back is going to sweat like a swamp with no ventilation on that pack and no rain cover means your gear will be piss-wet in bad weather. When are we going to get real-world reviews on gear, sick of people showing brand new gear and telling us how great they are when they clearly have not been used for anything apart from the demo.
I've been trying to find a pack I really like with organization I need for my my gear. I really want a hip belt 45L capacity with side pouches for a GI style water bottles. The best I've found for organization has sadly been the Outdoors Quest pack sold at Walmart, but it's capacity is around 30L. It's almost perfect accept for I want more capacity, a hip belt, a hatchet loop, and some bottom straps for a blanket roll. Still searching, but I've not found a perfect pack.
thedirtyknobs yea think thats it. heavy duty for boots and gear. One can is red other is green in shoe dept. works great. just hang it outside -spray it-let air dry and spray again, o so light coats 2-3 Times. dry for 24 hrs and I'm good to go. I spray all my gear, shoes, booths ,bags, jackets (rain gear) tents etc. anything to give you a one up on protecting your gear
Even tho I prefer the Marpat ILBE with assault pack, I can attest to 5.11 bags. They're great. While I pack mine differntly than what you showed on the video, it's a great bag. The waist and sternum straps go on mine (they get in the way of my tac vest/rifle mag pouches and the waist belt gets in the way of my pistol belt and extra high capacity mag pouches. Aside of milsurp gear ( which I always prefer ), 5.11 makes great stuff, way better than Maxpedition IMO
I find the Rush 24 very uncomfortable over the shoulders when carrying load, especially when just wearing a thin shirt. It also causes your back to sweat lots as it doesn't stand off your back enough to allow a free flow of air between the bag and your back. I fitted the hip straps to my bag as not provided when you buy this bag to see if it transferred the load to the hips and reduce the pain over the shoulders, but that doesn't work either. Very disappointed in this bag although it is very durable material. My Berghaus bag is much more comfortable.
Literally just bought one for that. Rush 24 is better, considering the fact that it's kind of difficult to fit an A4 notebook into the 12's compartment.
Thanks for the great review. Can you please let us know how much weight the MOLLE stitching should normally bear (in general, not necessarily on this bag)? Is it for light stuff only or can I load a pouch with 3-5 kilos too? Thank you.
If you're just going for a day hike get the 12, if you are camping overnight get the 24. If you're a hunter get the 12 as well. The 72 is for multiple day hikes and or camping.
@@urielcalderon3133 Sorry only just seen this! Ended up getting the 24, 12 seemed a bit small, use the 24 every day for work too. Put my training kit in for sports, lunch, water and all my EDC stuff in the smaller outside pouch. Great value and hardwearing - been overseas no problem; bashed about aeroplane holds. Expensive but totally worth it for quality. Buy cheap buy twice.
@@danielmeans9539 Ended up getting the 24 - perfect for everyday commute, putting a laptop in , training gear, bit of extra clothing, plus lunch/water bottles and EDC stuff in the smaller pouch
Hi there ! Great review, I have seen this video and rush 72 video of yours number of tines . What would you recommend amongst rush 24 and Amp 24 or rush 72 & amp 72 ? Plz guide I am going to use them mostly for hiking n camping .where in a tent , sleeping bag , sleeping pad , cooking pot and food sh fit in . Thanks n greetings from india 🇮🇳
How do you pack your clothing/undergarments? Most videos are usually with "pouches or small packs" on the inside of the bag. Also, where would you place papers, maps or small books for purpose of travel?
I like to pack my underwear, t-shirts and socks into small drybags. There is two main reasons: first the dirty ones don't make the whole bag smell. Second, should I manage to get wet like fall into a stream or whatever that would wet the bag in process, I would have some dry clothes to change into.
Great review video Sir, I am most certainly going to purchase one of these in the near future to supplement my Rothco 3 day Global bag. If I had done more research, I would have purchased this bag first. I was overly concerned with obtaining all of my Bushcraft gear from the SelfRelianceOutfitters webstore, and they do not have the best selection of backpacks, however if you're not familiar with the site, I suggest you check it out, they have a wide variety of common man gear at common man prices. Thanks for the video!
I have a rush 12 and 24. Love them! Keep up the great work Sootch !
Thanks Jim!
SensiblePrepper hey
SensiblePrepper , can u talk about what to do for nuclear war, and attacks and what I will do?
Same here, 12 and 24. And I just love your videos. Just subscribed. 👍
Is it worth having both the 12 and 24 or is the 24 too big for what the 12 is made for?

Ur not alone dude the whole world is collapsing! I live in the US battling antifa, blm & leftist democrats here. GOOD LUCK MAN!
M Martinez we are all brothers in those Times we all have the same ennemies and the same trials.
Love the blooper reel at the end, but great review of the Back Pack. I'm seriously considering getting one.
Boy that was so informative!! Thankyou! So well done!! You gave me all of the info I needed and some!!!
Thanks Scott! It's a great bag series.
I like the idea of Molle on the shoulder straps so you can attach small items that you need to access often like compass.
I have the Rush 72...I love mine. Rides very comfortably under heavy loads.
I love the size, the pockets, and construction, however when fully loaded i find it tips backward and digs into my lower back.
Hey sootch00,
Great review as always, got the rush 12, and 24. Use them religiously in my duties as a Soldier stationed here in South Korea. The bags are tough as nails. Take care and will look forward to more videos.
+10 points for Nutnfancy reference! love my 5.11 gear, I keep trying more and more of the stuff!
Nutnfancy is a personal friend and mentor. The man is a legend. Thanks David.
I have had this back-pack for about a year now. About six months into using it the sternum strap came undone during a hike and I lost it. So I would definitely like them to be more secure.
At 00:45 is that a sbr or pistol?
Great review. I routinely put 50lbs in this pack for training. It handles it very well. Very pleased
Great review Sootch. I love that bag and nearly bought it before I picked up the 5.11 COVRT 18 thanks to a review you did a while back on it.
The COVRT 18 is a great bag and more current features than the RUSH 24. Both have their place but I think you made a good choice. Thanks Erik!
Thanks for the comment! Good to hear testimonies.
I can see why everyone keeps recommending me the Rush when I asked for EDC bag suggestions. This thing is an organizational beast. I'm definitely getting one.
That trump though... I just got my first rush12. I'm excited.
I got one and I like it a lot plenty of pockets and room. The bag it’s self is a little heavy but it’s a very well made pack
Great review, just got mine here in Ireland 🇮🇪
I really like your content! Greetings from Greece.
Thanks Brother!
Check out my 72 hour Bug out bag when you have time....
From a fellow Greek...costa
I have the 511 Covert 18 pack.. Time to add a Rush pack... thanks for another solid review.
Thanks for watching Danny!
I've been waiting for this! Could you please make a video of this bag being a Get Home bag?
Try waterproofing your bags with a mixture of mineral spirits & silicone caulking. Not sure exactly the ratios of each. I think this also may be useful on other items as well even leather.
You missed a pouch inside the water bottle holder. Both sides have them. Great pack I've owned my for a year and it's so versatile I love it
I have one in black paid 25$ at local gunshow for it and that was during the gouging time frame
Hey Sootch00, I don't know if you want to answer this but I was curious to see if you prefer the Rush 24 or the Maxpedition Falcon 2? How do they compare? Great video.
Very nice review. Im sold. Thanks for the time and effort to post the video.
First bag I bought was the green 72hr bag, the green inside makes it harder to find gear in low light. The sand interior is alot better for old eyes.
Great review! Been looking for my next EDC/adventure bag and this review Is exactly what I was looking for
I think indeed this is the best edc bag instead of the rush 72. I have to choose this month and i want it also for to get home bag were i have more option backpacks.
Change out the sternum strap buckles with split key chain spring or a small carabiner, More secure but still adjustable.
Loved it ! Wish, such ingenuity would have been made available in my part of the world (India).
Glad i watched your video , I completely forgot about the Side zipper pockets.
looks like it could be a great day pack for short hikes, I would use this as a video gear bag, the molle could be used to hold my tripods
I use this as my get home bag. It's a great size and it's comfortable.
Great review. Just ordered the Rush 24.
Thanks Jacob, as far as RUSH 72... I'm sure I'll do a review at some point.
Exactly
Pls do another group bug out bag videos, i loved the last one
I've been trying to find a pack I really like with organization I need for my my gear. I really want a hip belt 45L capacity with side pouches for a GI style water bottles. The best I've found for organization has sadly been the Outdoors Quest pack sold at Walmart, but it's capacity is around 30L. It's almost perfect accept for I want more capacity, a hip belt, a hatchet loop, and some bottom straps for a blanket roll. Still searching, but I've not found a perfect pack.
I think you sold me on this one Sootch. Excellent presentation.
Thanks Brother! It's an excellent pack.
I always spray all my gear with water proofer from wal mart 6-7$.
scotch guard >?
thedirtyknobs
yea think thats it. heavy duty for boots and gear.
Ah great idea, imma do the same...haha
Would you be able to use the 2 hydration holes to hang up the pack like as a bear bag
How is this pack in hot humid weather? I have a north face pack that is a sweaty mess.
TWO ! Cheroots earned Sootch !! Well done.
Thanks George!
I've had one for years and love it!
Love my rush 12. I use the hydration pouch for my laptop and it works great.
Kris does it work for school??
Excellent review of an excellent bag!!! Thanks for sharing...
Which do you guys recommend for a college edc bag (general edc as well as a 15" laptop and a4 notebooks)? The rush 12 or 24
Literally just bought one for that. Rush 24 is better, considering the fact that it's kind of difficult to fit an A4 notebook into the 12's compartment.
I love mine, but the straps NEVER stay adjusted and 5.11 customer support is a joke that just stopped replying to my email.
Excellent review - Thank You 🙏
Thanks for the great review. Can you please let us know how much weight the MOLLE stitching should normally bear (in general, not necessarily on this bag)? Is it for light stuff only or can I load a pouch with 3-5 kilos too? Thank you.
Nice video, thanks for the review - just deciding between the rush 12 or 24, respect from the UK.
sorearm same situation here. Which one did yoy get
If you're just going for a day hike get the 12, if you are camping overnight get the 24.
@@sorearm i got the 24 as well for nursing school
I've purchased one for school, I'm a freshman in highschool, I'm hoping this thing is going to keep through college.
Now let's do a review on the rush 72
I've been carrying this bag everyday for over a year. I also take it on scouting trips/campouts. It is a tough bag
My favorite pack so far, looking to get one soon !!! I saw the covert but it doesn't open up like I want it to................
Nice review, I've the rush 12 and 24 very nice backpack's. My EDC bag is the 5.11 MOAB 6.
Greetings from Portugal.
I use this pack for overnights and love it. Great video
Thanks Scott!
Great review. Thanks for posting.
Question - can you fit a 32oz Pathfinder water bottle and nesting cup in the side pocket? Cheers
