One thing nobody posts about in medical bags is immodium. Most soldiers in history have died of diarrhea. It only takes three days of diarrhea to die from dehydration. While you should be fine drinking filtered + treated water and eating only food you brought, if you have to eat someone I mean something sketchy or if someone in your party has diarrhea one to five immodium could save their life. Not to mention all that tainted faeces everywhere on their clothes, in their hair, on your face, in your food, and on your fingers could make lots of people sick and die. Again, I wonder why nobody talks about this?
I bought a few hundred generic immodium at costco for 10 bucks. I carry 100 in a watertight pill bottle and it hardly takes up room. Highly recommend, will save your life, you can't look cool if you shit yourself to death. Don't shit yourself to death, carry immodium.
maniacalmania Most soldiers in history died from diarrhea? Cool story bro 🙄
underrated comment
That or typhus. It's not as big a deal as it used to be, but disease and dehydration have killed many more soldiers than swords or bullets have.
Jared Smith it’s not far from the truth. Dysentery, cholera, typhoid, the list goes on. Cholera of my memory serves killed more in Crimea than bullets and cannon.

Lol Swisstools are better. Before you go stating how much I am wrong, Unless you have both, (I have a Leatherman wave and a Swisstool) your claims don't exactly mean that much. It's like saying you don't like asparagus when you have never actually tried asparagus.
Swiss is even the same type of tool. That's like a camping trip thing like you have a can of beans and wine bottle at an RV park or something. I had those when I was like 9 in the cub scouts.
No, You're getting me wrong. There is a difference between a Swiss army knife and a Swisstool. A Swisstool is a multi tool very much like a leatherman. I can see why you made that mistake, the name looks very alike. Just google it.

A lot of these things are useful, but there are two mains things that you will need most:
1. Water
2. Ammo
You don’t know what a shitty day is until you’re in the middle of a firefight and realize you’re out of ammo.
Im sure the mags he carries are loaded. Also in a situation hes talking about, your not going headfirst into battle. Youll be playing the evasion game and staying mobile
The water is stored in a camelback.
I would imagine that more ammo is stored on the vest.
The main purpose of this Go Bag is survival, rather than combat
@@roguevector1268 if the main goal is extended survival what happens when you have to replenish those mags genius
@@ethanh6849 did you not read the title where it says '**3 day** assault pack'?
This isn't extended survival; the point of a 3-day 'go bag' is to get out of the immediate area and either get to a larger cache of supplies and equipment, find somewhere more permissive of going to ground, linking up with a larger community (military/militia/otherwise) or getting out to an area where the shit hasn't hit the fan (depending on exactly how the cards fall on the day).

I learned long ago not to to indulge my wife on my preps and she doesn't indulge me on how much she spends a month shopping on the online boutiques.
Can you do a 7 day pack? My mom is going on vacation to Puerto Vallarta.
IFAK/tape life hack taught by a squared away combat medic in Afghanistan. Use tape to make a pull tab on all of your plastic wrapped medical supplies. Even if the packaging has the easy tear open notch tape along (above) the tear notch, fold the tape back onto itself at your desired length (making the pull tab), and tape back onto the packaging. whether your hands are sweaty, bloody, etc..... it will assist with opening the packaging. furthermore rolls of tape should always be folded back onto itself making a pull tab for ease of use. trust me on this.
Big facts, if you don't buddy tape you're a blue falcon.

It’s been 4-6 years since you’ve done most of these types of videos.. you really should update them.. from long range packs.. to assault packs to this.. chest rigs plate carriers and belts.. all these are old and not out dated but lot to learn in 5 years time and a lot of things you’d change or update over that time.. hence why I’m here going back through older videos cause I’m looking to improve, update etc while also remembering why I do have certain things I have although most of the time they are unneeded and trying to not remove Serrano basics items that serve dual purposes..
Call me a weirdo, but I miss this simpler format but I understand that GT has grown into something magnificent

My A.L.I.C.E. Pack was stolen in 1985 with all my gear. Since then I’ve been making go-bags as a hobby.

Hey just thought I'd say this, but ibuprofen like all NSAIDs has a blood thinning side effect. Which of course, makes it harder for your blood to clot if you suffer a life-threatening hemmorage. I suggest carrying paracetamol as your every day pain-killer instead as it has barely any known side effects aside from potential liver damage if you overdose hard.
I salute that you carry extra IFAKs though, it sorta melts this medics heart to see people doing that.
Klobbson good lookin out, brother!!!! 👍🏻
Klobbson thanks for the comments doc!
All OTC medicines will melt an organ if you use too much of it. Personally I find NSAIDs far more effective for pain relief than Paracetamol/Acetaminophen AKA Tylenol. Aspirin is notoriously bad for blood clotting but great if someone suffers a heart attack or ischemic stroke for those of us civilian side.
Gotta pick your poison. Right tool for the right job.
Much agreed, not hating on NSAIDs when used for the right things. I used diklofenac gel for most of my sports injuries when I played hockey with great effect and the blood thinning effect can be considered a feature in the cases you mentioned. Though in this case I felt obligated to educate a fellow service member on NSAID side effects and why they're bad in a military/trauma context.
As someone who barely notice any difference between taking painkillers and not taking them makes me wonder, how much diffrence do you other people feel by taking painkillers? Cause if someone had a life-threatening hemmorage I wouldn't think about giving them ibuprofen or paracetamol cause in my world they would do jack and shit.
You're a Savage! "If you're mom goes to work all day and you're left in the basement" damn dude. Good stuff lol
Used a poncho with an emergency blanket to substitute a sleeping bag before. The poncho buttoned up so you could still bust out and the thin and shiny emergency blanket is good at keeping heat in and takes up less room tan an actual sleeping bag, and since its inside the poncho it wont give you away.

The Cannae Phalanx is a good pack. The extra side pouch is an add-on from Cannae called the EDC 9x6 Storage Pouch which MOLLEs onto the open pocket on the side. There's MOLLE on pretty much every square inch of the thing. Consequently, it is definitely not a "gray man" pack. Anyone who sees you with it is going to assume you're packing, and dirty hippies on hiking trails or at civilian campgrounds will give you dirty looks. But if you let dirty hippies change what you do, you're not really an American.
I’m a dirty hippy can got myself a good mystery ranch pack to help me carry my hammock, my extra hemp clothes, bong, etc. with all the molle I can hang a dream catcher, my pipe, my hemp wick…unreal pack ;)

Interesting choice of gear.
**You should mention that long-term storage of any sleeping bag or puffy clothes means letting them lay FULLY open and UNcompresed. Otherwise loft (thickness) and therefore insulative value will be lost when stored compressed. Most good sleeping bags come with a large storage bag of about a 10 gallon size.

When you’re avoiding contact of large numbers of invaders, knowing how to break the surface in water burning with fuel oil, isn’t all that helpful. I appreciate your taking the time to show us these things.
Glad to see I already carry a lot of the items you've showed, but my bag is always evolving.
Years ago, when I represented a different pack mfg., I purchased Tactical Tailor 3 day packs for myself. 40 years ago, I was hoofing through central, southern and eastern Asia. My pack weighed 19 pounds and I ate locally. Thereafter, for years, my situation in the US was that I would carry sealed and locked down duffel bags with gear in the car and an empty pack. In an urban setting, I would have to go to ground or underground if shtf and take the time to assess what specific gear I would need to put in my pack and also change clothes. It is nice to have a go bag at home or ready to go, but I simply could not use that approach. Now, I am at a stage that I am old enough to be your grandfather. Can't do miles with a 40 pound pack.

An air mattress or something similar is essential in cold-ish weather. It works well with a quilt (to save space and weight, and to not feel trapped in a sack in hostile territory).
Goodnight when you carry an extreme weather sleeping bag, but sleep directly on the ground. You'll freeze even at moderate temperatures.
A bivvy bag or poncho+liner is also quicker and less noticable than a tarp.
Also have anti diarrhea medication and water purification (filter and/or tablets).
Some caffeine or pre-work out powder, sportsdrink powder.
And off course a water bladder, you probably pack that outside the pack, so you have it on you when not wearing the pack.
For underwear, wear synthetic or merino wool. No cotton.
Carrying extra underwear isn't absolutely essential in a 3day pack, socks are. It might be a good plan to pack a regular underpants and wear a thermal in slightly colder temperatures. Switch when temperature will likely go up.
Great video.
Bring underwear dude, dont be gross
Personally, I've found that in extremely cold temperatures, the air contracts and actually deflates the air mattress, now I use a foam one instead.

"If you have a girlfriend." HAHAHAHAHAHA "Which, you guys don't." Wow wtf rude.
We're watching a man explain backpacks.
He's right.

If I had a go bag, I'd put you in it and deploy you when it was go time.... Or if some bum touching was in order
Great advice about backpacks and how to run them with these videos. I appreciate it, thanks. How would you pack a civilian EDC self-defense backpack? One meant to not look militarized (camo colors, mollee straps, etc.), but still be an effective tool (bullet proof plate to use as a shield, 1st aid kit, etc.), the kind people who go for the "grey man" approach would use when they want to be prepared, but look like every other sheeple walking around. That should cover the civilian scale of this topic
The only other question I can imagine is covering how to pack a ruck you're going to do a HALO jump with, or make a covert SCUBA infiltration like the commercials they always show on TV, etc. That should cover the military scale on this topic. All the videos you shared seem to focus on ground based movement
An entire video on hydration systems and or armor plates in backpacks would also be cool
Thanks GT. Can you do a video specific to an urban go set-up?
I am extremely interested in a SHTF stateside scenario set-up.
Thanks for all the knowledge you impart on us non military subscribers.
Keep up the good work and GOD bless.
