  • Make this spicy and tangy cilantro pesto yourself as a money-saving alternative to jarred pesto. This recipe packs more flavor and antioxidant power than what you'd buy at the supermarket for a fraction of the cost.

    Cilantro is one of my favorite foods. I just like the flavor. That's one of the reasons why I have no friends.

    Cilantro will stay fresh for weeks if you take it home from the store cut an inch off the bottom and keep it in a small amount of water standing upright like a bunch of flowers in your refrigerator.

    Serrano works with garlic and lime according to my friends in Mexico. Use lemon with jalapeno and onion. I'm adding Serrano to my pesto, but I love your recipe and know its going to be wonderful.

    What the west doesn't know is, and it is no secret, the Romans during their Halcyon era of dominance introduced coriander to Europe, and Britannia. Romans travelled far and wide on their journeys, and went as far as the east. It's no surprise to find cumin and other spices in old Roman recipes. They exist!

      cilantro becomes coriander after it has flowered and been dried as a spice. the two terms are often interchangeable in different languages and cultures, but in the US, coriander is the dried spice, and cilantro is the fresh herb. both of the same plant.

    Put cilantro, stems down, in a cup/jar of ice water, with a plastic bag over the top. Put in fridge. It will last a long time, and, if it's very fresh, it will actually root.

    No pine nuts??? Well, that's strange. Usually pesto has a type of nut in the sauce, as a nut free alternative I heard you could use sunflower seeds!!!!

    • @aleyalan2010

      The name Pesto originates from the Genoese word pestâ, which means to pound or to crush. This refers to the way in which the authentic sauce is prepared, with a mortar and pestle (now day in a "processor" 😁)

    If I'm being honest this video was a little sloppy considering you were talking about all these other ingredients and you weren't putting them in the recipe. For example the oregano, you were talking about the oregano for so long and you actually didn't put it in the pesto, I feel like if you are going to talk about it as much as you did then you should put it in the recipe. in this case you didn't put it in you could've just said "some people will add oregano" and then moved on or even added that information at the end of the video rather than crowding the middle of the video with information not pertaining t the current video. Then with the garlic, yes you added garlic to the recipe but you didn't say how much, you were talking about peppers and how to cook peppers. I'm not really sure how these are related at all but it seemed like you were spewing information that I didn't need and at the same time skipped important information like the amount of garlic you used. Not sure if you are still making videos because I see this was posted in 2016 but just a few pointers to help you improve your videos.

  • @ruthcamera

    I don't like too much of the talking just get to the point. Why don't you put any nuts because mostly pesto that I tried has nuts on it? You can use any kinds of nuts. By the way, thanks for sharing and I don't want to be rude. We all have different ways or style and you can improve yourself because we not perfect and I can understand. Good luck!

    What is the different between cilantro and coriander?

    • @pepitoquilter
      @pepitoquilter 5 років тому +3

      Hi Cassandra. Cilantro and Coriander are the same thing. One is the Spanish word, and one is the English word. Usually, though, coriander refers more to the seeds, so a lot of times you'll see it specified as coriander leaves. Cilantro usually means leaves, so in Spanish you have to specify, Cilantro balls [seeds]. LOL HOpe this helps you!

      In my country we use British English we call it coriander. I have only heard the word Cilantro in American food channels.
