    If you’re concerned about safety concerning the spotter arms in your commercial gym, first things first is to bolt down your rack. Then adding the front foot extensions will be overkill at that point. The PR5000 is not a flat foot design, so the risk of a tip over while using certain front attachments without the front foot extension and having less than ideal counter weights in the back increases the risk, especially for the narrower rack depth models. 95 percent of all commercial racks I’ve seen at gyms have been bolted down not only for safety but to cover the gym owners butt from liability.

    • @gymreviewer
      @gymreviewer  2 роки тому +1

      Absolutely agree! We recently picked up three sets of the front foot extensions from Griffin Fitness (hence the Griffin Fitness HQ tour).
      I’m planning on using the front foot attachments without bolting the rack down (it will be in a bomb shelter).
      What are your thoughts? (I will probably have to make a proper video to illustrate the idea).
      Feedback like this is what thankfully pushed me to get the front foot attachments. Thank you!

    I don't understand the issue with the safeties. I don't see how they could fail unless they are rotated 90 degrees and then pulled out. It would take an intentional effort that would be made extremely difficult to even intentionally do if there was a bar resting on it from a failed rep. I never use the Rogue pins in my safety spotter arms because I move the arms for flat bench, incline, overhead press, squat, etc. Like these safety spotter arms, it would take a deliberate effort to pull them out. I don't see how the additional pins add safety - they just add a step to having to move them.

    For tipping, you might want to consider bolting the rack to the back wall. Home depot sells steel square piping that you could attach to the wall and then to your rack. A few of those bolted solidly to studs would stop it from going anywhere

      @gymreviewer  Рік тому +2

      Beautiful recommendation! As it is a load bearing wall built over 50 years ago we went with the front foot extensions, but for someone with a newer construction home (or more risk tolerance ;) this could be fantastic!

      Exactly, and please do! I thought I could initially work the system and weigh down our four post racks… absolutely no chance! 😂
      The founders of Griffin Fitness also agreed that tipping can be a huge problem on some 30” racks, and even potentially a 6-post rack!
      Front foot extensions are absolutely the way to go! We just picked up two sets from Griffin over Black Friday to go on our PR-5000’s. (Rep’s were out of stock and it was much cheaper for me to just stop by Griffin’s HQ).

    100% of the safety concerns with the rack tipping over is to use the provided concrete anchors. It’s the first 2 or 3 steps it says to anchor your rack to the floor. Also, commercial gyms should have their equipment anchored to the ground or the platform.

    Those safety strap mounts are identical to Titan….surprise surprise 😃…I just bought a pair from Titan. As far as REP, I have started buying some of their items (ie..flat bench) and the welds are stunningly beautiful. The bench is a great value at just over $200 and free shipping. REP also has great customer service in my experiences with them. So now the tough choice Rogue Monster Rack or Rep PR 5000. They both seem pretty great to me.

    • @gymreviewer

      Titan strikes again! The decision between Rep and Rogue Fitness is a tough one, here are some key thoughts:
      -Does 47” width vs 49” width matter to you? (Rep is 47” and in my opinion that is better than the Rogue 49” width)
      -Do you like beefy ‘works every time’ attachments? (Rogue > Rep)
      -Do you mind paying a little more for pretty big leap in quality? (Usually the quality difference is seen in the attachments)
      -Do you mind some of the flaws that Rep Fitness attachments have?
      -Are you planning on expanding your gym in the future?
      -What about expanding your rack…? (Rogue has more options for expanding racks, etc.)
      Let me know what you decide and any other questions! I’m sure other people here have great thoughts too that they can give some insight on. 👍🏼

      It's worth noting that with a Rogue rack you are getting a true 3"x3" with 3" center-to-center spacing, while Rep is actually a 75mmx75mm rack with 50mm spacing. This is why all the many accessories from Rogue, Fridge, Vulcan, EliteFTS, Sorinex, Stray Dog, etc etc all interoperate, while Rep does not. This alone is reason enough to buy something from one of the other companies, and avoid Rep (and Titan).

    I’m seriously considering purchasing this Rep PR-5000, but concerned about the stability as I also won’t be bolting it to the floor. They do offer a 41 inch depth which may be more stable. I’m also looking and would want a quick release adjustable pull up bar that I can quickly move up and down the uprights to do various body weight exercises. Rep does not have that with quick release pins and was wondering if one from Rogue or Titan might be able to be used on this rack. I’d appreciate any feedback on this.

    • @gymreviewer
      @gymreviewer  2 роки тому +2

      Toby, awesome ideas! If you have the space I’d probably go with a 41” rack or a 30” depth + the weight storage uprights (meaning it is now a 6 post rack). The 31” rack is annoying because of the stability problems, but the front foot extensions will solve the problem rather quickly and simply (at least from tipping forward… tipping backwards is another thing to consider).
      That adjustable pull-up bar is an awesome idea and unfortunately not a ton of companies are making them yet.
      Something to consider when taking pull-up bars from Rogue, Titan, and Rep to other competitor brand ecosystems is that Rogue makes a 49” wide rack, Titan makes a 48” wide rack, and Rep makes a 47” wide rack (with 47” wide racks being my personal favorite because it stops weight plates from hitting the sides of the rack).
      You could potentially rig something together with hitch pins that screw and lock, but it is risky and I would not advise this as it could be life threatening (do at your own risk and please stay safe).
      I’d be curious to see what the community has to say for maybe some good DIY solutions, if there is nothing factory made that is compatible on the market with the Rep PR-5000.
      The other option may be to let your creativity flow and see what comes of it!
      Some interesting side notes:
      -Bridge Built builds adjustable pull-up bars, but their racks are different than the Rep Ecosystem (49” wide with smaller hardware that is around 3/4” or 5/8”).
      -Rep Fitness does sell individual single pull-up bars for around $50-$100 (last time I checked). Buying a spare and using it with some quick release but SAFE and approved hardware could be an interesting solution (with the second pull-up bar mounted permanently above for added stability and ease of use (it sucks having to lift the pull-up bar and take it down from overhead, every time).
      Let me know what you think and I’d love to hear what solution you end up going with. All the best!

      @@gymreviewer I certainly appreciate your quick reply. I’m going to reach out to REP by way of an email and suggest they consider coming up with a quick release adjustable bar. I think pins may work on theirs instead of bolts, but as you state safety in doing this would be key. Possibly a local machine or welding shop could make one for you provided you had exact measurements and specs, but this too could cause a safety concern. Before I do make a purchase, I’ll probably have more questions, so stay tuned. Again, thanks for the video and response.

      @@tobydavis5673 No problem! It can definitely be frustrating when a product you really want isn't yet available. Oftentimes the community really helps drive the company (if the company is listening ;)
      It is amazing that you are planning on reaching out to Rep and making this move in the right direction. Something I have always looked down upon from Rep Fitness was their lack of attachments and the quality of those attachments. It looks like they are moving towards the side of getting better, but they still can't compete (in my opinion) with Rogue Fitness, Sorinex, Bridge Built, and other real top notch companies out there. The biggest thing I think Rep has going for them at this point is their value proposition (relative to a very expensive market ... i.e. Sorinex) at an arguably affordable price. You get what you pay for! Looking forward to them investing more capital into the Research and Development side to polish and refine these bugs - hopefully making the product a top notch AND high value proposition product.

    I really like the Rogue RM3 rack, but Rogue doesn't put out a economic lat pulldown attachment (RM Slinger + plate loader + seat = ~$800) vs Rep's lat attachment = $569 w/ RBS stabilizer). I'm torn over the ability to have a good lat attachment...

    I do have more questions regarding the PR - 5000 as on some reviews of it, it is listed as the PR-5000 V2. I’m assuming the V2 means Version 2. However, on the REP website I don’t see any mention of it being a V2. Maybe I am missing something here and if so please advise. As I previously stated if I were to buy this rack I won’t be bolting it down, it is suggested on the REP site to go with the 41 inch depth, but they also mention adding an accessory called “rear base stabilizer”. Or using front foot extensions. (This info is in the description of their webpage). Anyone who can pass info on about the rear stabilizer I’d appreciate it.
    Lastly in shopping racks, while I know the looks and quality are better on a REP rack, I’m considering the Titan Fitness X-3 91 in. flatfoot rack. Being it is a flatfoot rack, stability should be good and it comes with both 1.25 inch and 2 inch fat pull up bar as part of the upper reinforcement bars. It too has options to add a lot of extra accessories and attachments. Since I’m budget minded and looks don’t mean a lot to me, and it is around $300 less than the PR-5000. That is why I’m on here doing research. Keep lifting.

    • @gymreviewer
      @gymreviewer  2 роки тому +4

      I'm glad you are bringing this up. When Rep Fitness initially released the PR-5000 Rack, it had a ton more flaws and weird aspects to it that just didn't flow with the whole ecosystem they were trying to build (similar to the ecosystems that Rogue Fitness and Sorinex have built up, with many similar uprights, hole-patterns, and multi-use removable attachments). Unfortunately, one of the big flaws Rep made with the original PR-5000 'V-1', was that it had two different hole sizes throughout the rack - leading to a rack that looked funky and did not flow entirely well, for the user, as other racks do. The 'PR-5000 V-1' had something like 1" holes on the uprights in the lifting areas, and smaller 5/8" holes at the top and bottom for the crossmember and pull-up bar connection points.
      Thankfully, Rep Fitness tidied things up and created a relatively stellar rendition of the PR-5000 in their 'V-2' iteration. Rep Fitness made many improvements. Creating a more diverse attachment ecosystem was one of the big step-ups that Rep has recently made to support and expand the PR-5000 V2 line and bring it even stronger to market.
      By changing the hole diameters on the rack to be roughly 1" (consistent) throughout all uprights, crossmembers, and mostly all attachments, Rep created a smooth and easily change-able ecosystem with functionality and the ability for creativity likening to products such as the Rogue Fitness Monster series racks, and the Sorinex XL Series power racks. (Of course this change in hole diameter and size does not include the UHMW screw holes, accessory and name plate screws, etc. which would be absurd to change those to 1").
      A nice touch Rep added to their line of V-2 racks was the option to choose many different color combinations and styles. Compared to the classic black, Rep introduced the ability for users to really make a personal gym custom and 'yours'. Something that does not go un-noticed for most home gym enthusiasts who love to customize their personal gym space. To be honest, there is nothing like walking into another room, basement, or garage of your house only to see one of the coolest gyms on the block, and to know that it is all yours (... training in your underwear is cool, too).
      Something considerably nice that Rogue has helped make popular is the ability to easily vary and customize the footprint of your rack! This could include the depth, and height for something like the PR-5000 V-2. Often times, on lower quality racks or budget Amazon options, you are really limited to often a one-size-fits-all, meaning if you are too tall, or too short, life isn't as fun as it could be. The ability to customize the size of your rack to perfectly complement your space is something that in my opinion, is under-valued and definitely a luxury in the home-gym space.
      Life became all the more easier for me when I upgraded to the Rep PR-5000 from the Titan Fitness X-3 Flat Foot series racks. Not only did I know have the easier to work with 1" holes throughout, but I also had laser-cut and numbered uprights and crossmembers. Using our gym with these numbers seems trivial, but it is truly the little things like this that make a world of a difference, and make training for me, friends, and family less of a pain in the tuchus.
      Overall, I think the biggest upgrade Rep Fitness made when changing to the PR-5000 V-2 rack was upgrading and redesigning their website. The new site allows users to easily and seamlessly check out and play around with different colors, sizes, attachments, and more for the PR-5000 series.
      All that being said, I would not go back to the Titan Fitness X-3 series Flat Foot rack over our slick PR-5000's. The PR-5000 is too clean and too good a product compared to my experience with Titan's racks.
      Moving on to the Titan Fitness X-3 Flat Foot Power Rack, I am not a fan. If using anything like rings, a TRX, dip attachment, or safety spotter arms in front of the rack can lead extremely easily to the rack tipping forward and causing some serious damage. That risk of tipping limits the rack's use and ability to really be a versatile home gym product. The finish of the rack and attachments used on it are still far inferior to Rep Fitness' line of attachments for the PR-5000 system. All things equal, I'd invest a few more hundred bucks into the Rep Fitness ecosystem which is a more refined and versatile product, in my opinion.
      That being said, you may want to consider the front foot extension attachment for the PR-5000 V2 rack series. A great option to prevent the rack from tipping forward. From my understanding, the rear stabilizer attachment really helps stop the rack from shifting laterally (side to side), but has nearly zero influence on protecting the rack from tipping backwards (from using attachments on the outside of the rack, on the portion that does not have the front foot extensions). To solve this safety hazard, many people have gone with the extra uprights and smaller crossmembers to convert their rack to a six post rack system with weight storage on the back. Another interesting solution would be to purchase two sets of front foot attachments, and two feet on the front and two feet on the back of the rack, hence limiting the potential for a serious accident.
      Lastly, it can be frustrating that Rep removed the name V-2 from their site, because a ton of reviews refer to the PR-5000 as the PR-5000 V2... just know that it is likely a branding ploy to make the name a bit cleaner. In general, Rep discontinued the PR-5000 V1 a few months/ years ago and as far as I am concerned, it is entirely out of circulation on the new market (meaning if you buy a PR-5000 rack from Rep's official website, it is most certainly a PR-5000 V2 series (or maybe even a V3 series, depending on when you're reading this!)
      Keep up the great work and research!

      I wanted the Rep Racks, or I wouldn’t have bought three of them. ;)
      After purchasing the equipment, I didn’t expect it to have so many faults that really degraded my user experience.
      The only comparable option that has better attachments at a 47” width is the Sorinex XL series racks… Way too much IMO for most home gym owners (would have cost 2-3x more for me to do this same build).
      Again, if Rogue made 47” wide rack options, they would dominate all the competition… probably not foreseeable though because of all their 49” wide rack attachments. :)

    Hi, thank you for the great comparison. How does the uprights of the REP compare to Rogue's uprights in terms of quality? From the gun industry I found some articles about American steel being 3 times harder than Chinese steel but I am not sure if that really matters with steel tubes for power racks. I am located in Europe and Rogue's pricing over here is ridiculous. The RM4 is around 2200 EUR with shipping and taxes. We do have many import brands like REP as well, i.e. ATX, Bulldog, SQMIZE, Atletica, etc. Is the Rogue USA steel promise mostly marketing or is it really that much better?

    • @gymreviewer
      @gymreviewer  Рік тому +4

      Josh, excellent question.
      In regards to US steel versus Chinese steel the general consensus is that there is a difference in quality (favoring the US side). There is a catch though, the consensus also follows that when we are talking about 3x3 uprights for this style power rack, that the difference is so minuscule you will likely never even notice it.
      Since money is a factor in yoyr decision, I would go for an ‘imported upright’ as opposed to the Rogue or Sorinex options.
      The only thing to note is that an American made upright will be slightly larger than an imported upright due to the American Imperial system of measurement as opposed to imported racks using the international Metric system of measurement (when cutting and planning their uprights).
      Again, since money is a factor your best bet may be to purchase an imported upright/ frame rack along with USA made or higher quality imported attachments.
      Most of my frustrations with the Rep PR-5000 have come from the attachment side of things.
      This link to a master list of attachments may come in handy:

      @@gymreviewer thank you for your reply and sharing your experience. I will order an ATX 840 six post rack that is on sale for 970 EUR. The rogue RM6 costs 3.400 EUR with attachments over here. Even though I am willing to pay more for nicer stuff, the price difference is just too high to justify. And ATX is sponsoring Germany‘s strongest man Dennis Kohlruss. He has some sick squat videos in this rack.
      Since all manufacturers are using the metric system in Germany, I can get some of the German made premium attachments from Strong Gains.
      Maybe I will make a review of the rack. Basement Brandon wrote me some years ago that he was trying to get the ATX stuff imported.

    So the PR 5000 is the same as PR 5000v2. I built my rack at rep fitness its a pr5000. Iam a little confused I chose the 80" rack and 30" if I buy lat pull down attachment and stabilizer I won't need to bolt it down correct?? Will the rogue leverage arms work on this rack?
    OK this is my dilemma.🙄
    I currwntly have this set up PRX wall rack and separate valor lat pull down machine, separate rogue pull up bar, separate rogue band station with matador dip attachment and landmine (this is what I currently have right now) and many of other things.. I want the rogue arms so for that I will have to get another rack I think so I been looking at the one mentioned avobe..now if I get the pr5000 with lat pull down, rogue leverage arms, dip, land mind and pull up bar attachments I can sell all my other stuff and this way I will have everything consolidated in one rack..don't know if I will like everything cramped up in one place though🤔🤔. Or maybe just replace prx wall rack with rogue wall rack and keep everything else in separate stations like I have it now??🤔🤔

      Marco, I love the amount of thought you are putting into this! I am absolutely the same way.
      I really love having separate stations and it definitely makes the gym feel more open and also more fun to train with friends.
      There is definitely something good about sticking with one brand for all your parts because they are guaranteed to work seamlessly together.

      @@Mexi99 I have the iso arms so I use the spotter arms for benching and incline with the arms. Mine don’t seem loose but even then, you have to turn them sideways to pull them out. Even if they slightly turned I can’t see anyway for them to fall out if you dropped a ton of weights on them. With the weights pushing down, it won’t be able to turn sideways to fall out. If yours is a little loose, add a little felt tape on the inside and it should tighten it up.

    Don't really have any complaints about my PR5000. It was probably a bit overkill for me and I kind of miss the lightweight and ease of setting up my former big box store squat/bench rack. It's a workout just moving accessories around. Everything is built like a tank and I haven't even had a need to bolt it down. I got the flipdowns, strap safeties, and spotter arms and can't imagine being without any of them.

      @@gymreviewer mainly for versatility. I thought the full flip downs would be good for rack pulls, a workbench/seat and dipping horns. Turns out I only use it for doing dips. I use the safety straps for virtually all inside rack work. I'm glad I waited for the shorter upgraded straps. The 2 ft spotter arms were for doing work from the front of the rack. I use them most for incline bench which I can't do inside the the rack because it's too one to the wall.
