    Absolutely loved the walk. I was on Marco Island in Sept and Tigertail all day the day before I left. I love it there because it's never crowded and I have found some amazing shells. Found my first Cabrit Murex that trip. I was stoked! Thanks for taking me back!

    I almost always go the long way too! There is a way to cut down the walking by parking in the furthest part of the lot (for next time). And I recently found an orange "purplish" semele that was orange too but you knew what it was lol! It's wonderful here in the summer - people don't like the heat so us locals have the place to ourselves!

    It never fails to amaze me how God can place such beauty on the beach just so we can stroll along and find just the right thing that we didn't know we were looking for...and the thought of picking up one small shell from among the millions strewn on the shore makes me sit and realize just how significant all things are; both living and those leaving their life homes behind...I always look forward to each video and the adventures that await! ...and 4K makes it that much more real....thanx, once again for letting me tag along!!!

    I stayed on Marco Island the whole week of Thanksgiving. We went to Tiger Tail Thanksgiving afternoon. It was too rough to shell in the water and there was absolutely nothing on the beach close to the water. So I shelled on a sparse high wrack line and found some amazing micro tiny shells including some rice olives. I was disappointed there weren’t any bigger shells.

    • @solaceinshelling6552
      @solaceinshelling6552  7 місяців тому

      I am sorry you didn't have the shelling experience you were hoping to have! I have been "skunked" so many times before(I just don't upload that content to UA-cam). Shelling takes patience, and I always say that understanding "how" to shell, and shelling without expectations is vastly more important than trying to find the best beach.

    That moon snail is so cool! I found one of those when I went to shell island some time ago and was similarly quite puzzled at first. It's interesting how they have such a restricted range - I would've thought that the ocean currents would have swept them out to other beaches too, but they just never seem to turn up anywhere outside Marco/10K. Awesome finds and videography as per usual!

    • @solaceinshelling6552
      @solaceinshelling6552  7 місяців тому

      Yeah, they don't seem to be SUPER rate, in the 10K islands are, but definitely more uncommon than the canrena. From what I understand, there is a unique molluscan micro ecosystem in the 10K islands, which makes this area all the more fun to explore and learn more about!
      Thanks for watching, friend!

    If you ever decide to return to Tigertail Beach, there is another parking lot to the left of the concession area. It’s still a bit of a walk but you do save quite a few steps. I went across the lagoon once and don’t recommend it. Thank you for the link to your reference books.

    My name is Theresa and I am from Washington state. I watch your channel faithfully and I'm a huge fan. We will be in the Fort Myers area for 4 or 5 days in early January (and we have dogs - but can leave them if we need to). You have inspired me to come south because of your calm approach to shelling, it seems so peaceful. I know this is a lot to ask and I probably know your answer, but for a person with limited time, what would be your top two places to shell?

    • @solaceinshelling6552
      @solaceinshelling6552  7 місяців тому

      Hi Theresa! I think many shellers would give you different answers, but since you asked me I can provide some of my best suggestions for this area! While a great shelling experience can never be guaranteed, SW Florida is one of the best locations in the world to find seashells, because shelling is so consistently good here. I'll keep it simple: a shell tour of the 10k islands is a must(Reel Kind Tours is my go to), Sanibel Island, though severely impacted by Hurricane Ian, has always been world famous for shell collecting, and is an experience you shouldn't miss if visiting here. I have not yet been to, but hear that Keewaydin Island is also amazing(you will need to charter a boat to get here, but there are plenty available!).
      Enjoy your shelling trip, and try(though I know it's hard), to shell without expectations - you'll appreciate the experience much more!
      Thanks for watching!

    Crossing the lagoon at low tide saves a 20 minute walk each way. The water is only 18 inches deep. Just need proper beach shoes to get through the muck on the far side.

    When filming do you leave the camera and then walk away or is someone else filming you?

    • @myunknownland9272
      @myunknownland9272 8 місяців тому +1

      I wondered that also

    • @solaceinshelling6552
      @solaceinshelling6552  7 місяців тому

      I LOVE these questions! I film everything myself, unless I'm shelling with friends, and sometimes they help out with the filming(but this isn't very often). Each time you see me walk past the camera, or out in front of the camera, I have to set it down prior and record the out and back. It takes a little bit of extra time, but it allows me to portray the overall experience better for viewers.
      I will say, when it's super hot, or super cold, it's harder to do these shots because of the additional effort required in weather elements, but I try to incorporate them, because it is always the vision I have had for the content on this channel.
      Thanks for asking about the film-work, and thanks for watching!
      💙
