you can calculate a QB rating...but you can never calculate how clutch or great he is.
Cryptic 90 W
True, but it sure helps
@Inferno PFF is too subjective, Passer Rate is too objective. Watch film, I say.
I would be more impressed if you explain how were the constants & multipliers for the equations were determined!
u kinda can
I honestly hate the passer rating. They SHOULD have figured out a way to make the maximum rating an even 100. That way even a casual could could easily decipher a good QB rating vs bad. Also, unlike the current system, it should not EVER deduct points if the result was a first down.
I bet she had no idea of what she was saying 😅
Crist Burgs
Yep, very simple.
K. Impact it is
@@gustavoparrilla6293 ooouu we got a badass over here.
How in the world did they come up with this equation?!
I’m saying
Why aren't you my math teacher ?
Marcio Butler ikr lol
Marcio Butler
mi.
incomplete pass gains rating completes the next pass and loses rating ;-;
That's what im saying
exomonxt When there is an incomplete pass where he gains rating?
Fuba 5.00 throws incomplete pass, goes up from 113 to 115+
Must be a mistake, since it's mathematical nonsense if you look at the calculation of the rating.
Fuba look for it it was over thrown out of bounce near 119QBR.. i don't want look for it
Who came up with this bullshit
ReeseTheComedian Thats what im thinking 😂
I wanna know how the hell i got 8 likes 😂
ok so where did the formula come from
Some idiot
Exactly what I was thinking they were going to tell use.
yeah fr what's up with all these random numbers they are multiplying and dividing by
he tore apart the eagles
They finally broke their 4 game losing streak! Hope they packers make it to the playoffs #Packerspride

Wow football and math class at the same time
It's sad that sometimes you throw for a first down and your passer rating drops.
The passer rating was created to show how great Eli is
Odell Beckham Jr. #Odeezy #13Hunnit #OdellBlock gang
Odell Beckham Jr. #Odeezy #13Hunnit #OdellBlock L
Odell Beckham Jr. #Odeezy #13Hunnit #OdellBlock Gang Gang Gang
But Eli always had a bad passer rating...
L
Fun fact, if you have 1 attempt for a 99 yard touchdown you have a perfect 831.25 rating
In college lol
who came up with that formula? and why? lol
L alabama suck we can beat you sucker #dawgpound
Man I really wish they used Ryan Fitzpatrick's 6 int game for this
I'm pretty sure it would be the "Mathematics" behind QBR, not science...
Well mathematics is a science. The fact that you have a "science class" in school is just board of education being too lazy to do anything/too cheap to pay more teachers, so they're cramming couple of separate sciences into one class.
They really need to change the name of one of those so it's less confusing to casual fans. "QBR stands" for "Quarterback Rating," but as you say those two are separate stats. I generally say "QBR" vs "Passer Rating" to differentiate, but I understand the confusion.
QBR is just as stupid as passer rating. PFF probably has the most accurate ratings compared to the eye test
IHCTerra Passer Rating is just a way to group all of the mainstream stats. It is absolutely not the best stat. Would you agree that Kirk Cousins is the #1 QB in the league these last 2 seasons? Passer Rating says he is
Joey Brickz Definitely not. Passer rating is results based. It won't tell you that half of a QB's interceptions resulted from a ball bouncing off his receiver's hands nor will it tell you that 70 of his passing yards one game came from a jet sweep that the runner took to the house.
I agree with Greg Cosell's take on the stat: if a QB's rating is above 95 he's likely playing well and if it's below 80 he's likely playing poorly, but anything between requires film analysis to distinguish the qualities of those players. +1 for you.
Who is here after our boy Aaron just got a perfect passer rating against the raiders
You lost me at 0:28
It's sad the Packers record is holding people from admitting Rodgers is a Top 5 MVP candidate
ikr people like to judge team but no the players themselves
Join the club... Drew Brees gets robbed every year sadly enough. And he deserves it above everyone else, even though I think Zeke is the front runner.
DrNuggetFTW he is way too inconsistent although I think that's the only thing
Aydenn Moriès Anderson How you going to call him inconsistent? Is he inconsistent because his teams been getting blown out. If you would just watch the games smh
Build Legacy if his team is getting blown out doesn't he play a role in that? Pretty much he does great some games but others not so great. I am not saying he is bad but he doesn't have games like he did against the eagles like every week
I just look on the NFL app
Calculating passer ratings is actually a pretty fun thing to do when your bored or something. I did Joe Flacco ( 84.7 passer rating for week 12 ) and Derek Carr ( 100.2 passer rating for week 12 )
I got my spreadsheet on MS Excel to do it on Sundays after the games, I like calculating it and comparing QB's.
I still have a question. I heard the term "perfect passer rating." What's a perfect passer rating? What throwing stats do you have to have for a perfect passer rating? Can you have a 200.00 passer rating?
Solomon Kessington a perfect passer rating is 158.3 that is the highest possible
DaBaconBanana thanks dude
Solomon Kessington no problem
Solomon Kessingto
pelesa.de.gallos
Solomon Kessington 158.3
im good at these stuffs cause im asian
K
My dude got a 144 passer rating deep into the game with no run game. Just went down to 116 when he was throwing short passes (which essentially is their running game now) to run the clock out and win
wait what
yea but why was that the formula they decided on? like all these constants in the equation, -.3, x5, x.25, x20, x25, /6, they all seem so arbitrary. i was hoping this video would explain how they came to decide on this formula
So QBR is basically the nfl's version of the PER stat in basketball?
Nu's For quarterbacks, yeah.
Even thought you used Arrogant Aaron, the Packers are still dead. #LionPride
I feel like figuring out every passer rating thks week instead of looking it up
Happy Birthday A-Rod!🤗🏆🏆
wait so Aarons passer rating dropped as he completed passes that went 10-15 yards
Happy Birthday Aaron Rodgers!!! LETS GO PACKERS!
Ayeeee that's my man Arod we may be 5-6 but I'm a packers fan 4 life
Same
Same for the CHargers. To hell with what people say about your team.
BrendoAlieno Cleveland Browns first win 1-15. Im blaming you 100% for ruining the 1 hope I had for Christmas.
lol
Should just *16.66 instead of *100/6
Why wouldn’t the inventor make the perfect passer rating as 100 instead of some random # of 158.3 is beyond me...
Ok why the minus 3 & the multipy by 5,20,6 & 100 steps? Why not just divide receptions by attempts, interceptions by attempts, passing yards by attempts & attempts by td's & add them up? The other stuff just seems extra & unnecessarily mathy
But what if a guy would throw 1 pass for 75 yards and a touchdown... He would have a rating of 731.25 which is obiosly higher than the "perfect" rating of 158.3...
That's a bit twisted. Even positive stats and yardage can result in a loss of passer rating.
Hmm. I thought it was going to be more the reasoning behind how they decided on the qb rating formula, not how to plug and chug variables into a formula. I have to believe people who don't already know how to do something like this probably don't care.
Why can't we just do this in math class. Give a ws with QV stats and we find the passer rating instead of rationalizing radicals and square roots bs
because you would still fail
eqqhwehas I'm in honors algebra 2 and I have an A. It's the most being class ever. At least this would be more fun
don't like this method because you can score just in garbage time and you'll look like a good you call this the Blake bortles method
4.36 wtf the passer rating went up when he threw an incompletion... nice math
Umang Patel 4:46 well it also goes down after that big completion.
Okay, well what's good and what's bad?
Lost me after the first calculations. My brain felt stupid.
Passer rating essentially rewards a qb for doing nothing.
What is the need for this math equation
Because the league needed a way to accurately rank passers and every method they had used prior to this (passing yards until 1937, completion percentage from 1938-1940, YPA in the early 60s, etc.) was woefully inaccurate.
Passer rating isn't perfect, but the top 5 QBs by passer rating over the last 5 seasons are Rodgers/Brady/Peyton/Wilson/Brees so it's obviously pretty accurate
Wade Dodge why not just add all the stats up no need for all this nonsense
Wtf is with all this math?! Lmao yo imma just enjoy football you guys have fun with math
Because people like to rank players (especially quarterbacks) and passer rating provides a fairly accurate (not perfect) objective measurement of how passers are performing. Casual fans use passing yards or passing TDs to rank QBs, but both of those stats are significantly less accurate
Wade Dodge how are they not accurate buddy? So what your saying if someone has more yards touchdowns less interceptions than someone they didn't have a better game then them? Ok
Who the hell came up with such a complex formula
I only watched this because it's all about ARod
WTF she didn't even explain why the constants are there. In the first bracket, why subtract 0.3? Or why divide everything by 6 in the end? lol. So in the end you get a number but it's still meaningless because you only know part of what makes it up. This might as well have been a church sermon because basically all she's saying is "just have faith in the bullshit I'm feeding you. Trust me, it's all true" LOL.
its to make the numbers from each segment more compatible. You can't have the numbers from the first bracket add up to say .5 and the numbers from the other bracket add up to 7. Then the 5 individual stats would be weighted differently. They do that to even the playing field..
A friend asked who was the rossi, cristiano ronaldo, mcgregor, hamilton
in football but i couldn't say, odell beckham maybe? Give your answers
thankss
Jesus people, QBR isn't the same as passer rating.
Passer Rating>Total QBR
YES!
Brandon S no
qbr has running added in so its betterr
According to QBR, RGIII was better than Tom Brady.
Lol no one cares about that qbr bullshit
This makes my inner math geek really happy and pleased 😍
LOL!!!
For the 100th time, old QBs such as Joe Namath and Ken Stabler gave hundreds of short TD passes to their running backs instead. In addition, they threw long passes on third downs because as John Madden loved to say, "An interception is as good as a punt." Namath and Stabler would destroy today's soft NFL defenses. QB rating is truly the most meaningless stat in sports history.
i dont get it
yupyup105 u STUPID
yupyup105 if you don't get it ur not a true football fan lel
Its just Completion percentage, yards and TDs to INTs
She did a pretty poor job of explaining tbh. Each of the four variables (completion %, YPA, TD%, and INT%) are scaled between 0 and 2.375, with 1.0 being league average when the formula was created in 1970. A passer rating of 66.7 would've been average, and anything over 100.0 would've been an excellent performance. The multipliers may seem arbitrary but they were chosen specifically to convert each stat into a value between 0 and 2.375.
Most overrated stat on the planet
How about: why those values?
Aaron Rodgers the best Quarterback in football
johnstjohn1987 Brady is better. It is fact today Rodgers is bad and Brady is still good and he is older. Brady 4 sbs Rodgers 2 sbs. So I guess 1 Brady is 2 Rodgers
And Peyton is better than Rodgers and Montana and etc
+Robert Weiss That's why Rodgers has the highest career passer rating in NFL history, better regular season and post season stats than Brady, and the best TD/Int ratio in NFL history, and a higher career completion percentage than all those quarterbacks you listed right? You're a moron. Have this L.
Robert Weiss You do realize Rodgers is blowing Brady away in stats this year right?
And who's fault is that
way to complicated how bout give them a 1-10 ...
Patriots Maybe it's just way too complicated for your small brain.
Dull Pike you dont even get it either
Cryptic 90 It's literally explained in the video... How much more dumbed down does it have to be for you?
I agree that's a lot of numbers lol
Dull Pike thats because it was explain to you. and you still dont get it.
I'm Pretty Sure It's Mostly Math Not Science.....Even Though DA (Dimensional Analysis) Is Evolved. Not Positive Though.
Too much math O_O
2:51 is crazy. Either Rodgers was a genius for putting the ball there or insane to throw a certain INT. It shows how stats can be deceiving but also why it’s so hard to scout QBs in college. IMHO Rodgers was the best passer of the 2010s & there wasn’t a close second based on the “eye test” combined with fun factor.
yo the real math equation is how many times the video said rogers
Lol completely made up equation. Why is everything divided by 6? And why is 158.3 perfect when it's not a set number of variables? I give up
Those numbers are all fine and dandy but this does NOT explain WHY you subtract and/or multiply those controlled base numbers within each equation. Why are those controlled variables valued as they are and why do they stack the way they do? These numbers within the equations and the total equation itself seems "BROKEN"... Thank you for explaining HALF of the stupidity behind this rating system .
makes you think why these specific numbers such as - 0.3, x0.25, 2.375- n then why divide by 6???? there sure could have been a different measure to calculate passer rating. this is just idiotic
Well QBR is what Skip Bayless uses when he's losing argument about Dak Prescott being good
QBR aint that special if someone is just throwing checkdowns. Very misleading. Ofc your completion percentage and yardage is going to increase, but any QB can do that it just depends on the offensive system and weapons. It also doesn't account for drops.
Should be called the math behind the passer rating. Don’t know if there’s anything scientific about this.
The thing that I don't like about passer rating is that every now & then, a QB posts a perfect 158.somethin passer rating, but they had several incomplete passes. In NFL terms, shouldn't 'perfect' on offense be defined as a TD every play? How can somebody be perfect and yet have incomplete passes? Say one of those incompletions is a TD instead - why don't they get an increase in rating?
Just dumb IMO.
Also some completions for first downs can drop the rating, but then a big yard highlight play doesn’t help much. Weird
So basically it's a long drawn out kinematics and percent error equation ohhhh
An insanely complicated equation for something that is extremely easy to understand lol.
I never understood this until now
Flawed equation
Flawed is an understatement - I believe the NFL, CFL and NCAA should get rid of passer rating, and go with something else.
Edit: The Math Behind Calculating Passer Rating
The number keeps going down even though they are completions?
Hmm question.. Why in the world am I watching this so early in the mornings
I thought I was watching a football video, didn't sign up for all this math
NO NEED for all this math. Either you had a good game or a had a bad game. SIMPLE
Does the NFL have like an passer rating calculator or do they just do the math
Excellent explanation! Thank you.
Passer rating is a Completely meaningless math formula made for sports media industry to have something to talk about when no actual games are on
And since when is there a science behind math? What's scientific about 4 + 3?
Lakin Inlet
Yet a lot of other analyst use QB Rating and I'll never understand why
At 1:28 where's the flag that guy was holding on Jordy Nelson
My brain hurts, but GO PACK GO!?!?!?!
man! interceptions helps u in your rating? wtf?
This is interesting and nonsensical at the same time. All and all . . . Fascinating🧐
Wut?
"Very Simple" She says.
Good job, you managed to make my own QB boring AF.
"simple" where tf did she get the numbers to subtract and multiply by and i dont mean the ones from like the 6 stats that they needed to know about him
Really shouldn't be called passer rating, but "Passing game efficiency rating". It doesn't isolate the QBs performance, it receivers and pass-protection are in there, too.
