I agree. People always talk about Andrea McCardle but she points out that all 5 of the girls to originally play Annie were amazing especially Allison for being the youngest performer to play her during the original Annie Broadway run. She was only 10 when cast and up till then the actress were usually 13 who played her.
I wonder if she will compulsively sing it today, if she just hears a note or a bar from it. I wonder, because for 6 years, I had to keep a Nextel radio on my hip in my job as a courier. That was 15 years ago. But even today, if I hear a beeping sound that even remotely resembles it, my hand goes to my hip so I can answer. Pavlov would be proud, I suppose.

I saw a clip from this performance and immediately sought out some kind of professional recording of the whole Broadway version at that time featuring Allison Smith but I can't find it anywhere. I hope there's a recording somewhere that can be released. It's surprising to me that there wouldn't be an album of it since she performed it for 3 years! But maybe that was not really part of the deal for Broadway shows at the time... and there was the '82 movie in the works.
she's not just singing, she's acting with all the correct emotional facial expressions to match the lyrics while hitting all the notes in perfect pitch and time which is WAY more challenging and skillful
I'm no expert, but this girl has one of the best voices I've ever heard. Every syllable is spot on. That high E (the highest note in the tune) deserves a Nobel Prize. I listen to this over and over just to hear that note and the way her throat just lets it rip.
It's magic, I can't stop listening to this and I'm a big fan of her now. I also listened a song from another movie when she's already grown up and fell in love with her as an actress.
