Back with Friday The 13th and this time it’s Part 5 A New Beginning. This takes place away from Crystal Lake. Years after Tommy Jarvis (John Shepherd) murdered hockey-masked serial killer Jason Voorhees, he resides in a mental hospital and struggles with the trauma of the experience. When Tommy moves to an isolated halfway house, he has nightmares about Jason's return, and soon one of the patients (Dominick Brascia) is killed. As the body count grows, Tommy begins to question his sanity and wonder if Jason has risen from the dead. But, to determine the killer's identity, Tommy will need to survive. This had her trying to figure out who’s who while keeping a Jason like character and keeping the element alive

Fun Facts: Among the cast, the only people who knew Jason was actually the ambulance driver were the two leads (John Shepherd and Melanie Kinnaman), the stuntman playing Jason, and the actor playing the driver. However, when it came time to film the big reveal, everyone knew it was horrible. In fact, they filmed fake Jason’s death scene twice. Still, no one believed the audience could see the unmasked man and instantly remember him as the ambulance driver. The idea was always for the audience to suspect this new Jason was actually an impostor. That’s why there are more adults around than usual (all potential bad guys), and Tommy’s all super strange and possibly psycho. Plus, there’s that guy Vic Faden who chops poor, chocolate-loving Joey to pieces. Indeed, he’s a Jason candidate. If not, why would we later see the graffiti “Fadden Was Here” on a bathroom wall just over a character’s shoulder after Vic was last seen being taken away by cops? In her audition for the part of over-the-top hick Ethel, Carol Locatell wore a wig gifted to her by Burt Reynolds for her time playing a hooker in Sharky’s Machine (1981). The New Beginning people loved it, especially the part where she could provide her own wig. That’s not really what she was going for (surely they’d get a new wig for the film), but she just went with it. Unfortunately, she temporarily volunteered the wig to the make-up department in the chance they should need it for any re-shoots. They never gave it back to her, perhaps forgetting it was her personal property, not theirs. The films didn’t go by their actual titles during production, with a New Chapter called “Repetition” (a self-deprecating, in-joke on the part of the producer). The actors usually figured this out during the casting process, but Ron Sloan and a few other New Beginning actors hadn’t put it together until their first day on set when a stuntman (Tom Marga) walked by in full Jason Voorhees costume. Friday the 13th: Part 3 was supposed to center around Part 2‘s survivor Ginny (Amy Steel) and be set at the mental institution she’d been committed to due to emotional trauma. Steel declined to return, and the concept was shelved. However, Part 3‘s screenwriter Martin Kitrosser had fleshed out the ideas (Jason survivor as the lead character, some setting where troubled teenagers might be) into a written story treatment, and it’d be a shame to let all of that work go to waste. So, Kitrosser’s treatment was dusted off and used for New Beginning‘s basic story, with Steinman and co-writer David Cohen penning the script.
Dude thank you so much for this, I’ve been a fan of this franchise for years and I never knew any of this!
I feel like the structure of this is similar to part one where you don’t know who it is till the end. I appreciate it for that. 1-5 are my favorites to watch
1-6👍
7-10 👎
Thank y'all for doing this... watching the WHOLE series. There's not many reactors who have, not many good reactors anyway.
Aren't you on Lost reactions as well? Is there a pipeline of Lost-Friday The 13th films? Becuase that's awesome. lol
Jason fell back on them spikes like Shang Tsung at the end of the OG MK
You mean Roy Burns did. That ain't no Jason
I have this on DVD and listening to the commentaries, you have to appreciate what they were able to do. They said that starting with Friday part 5, the movie review board basically said they couldn't have too much blood or violence so they had to edit / tone things down. For example: when the "robot dancer" got killed - her original death was her doing a handstand (yoga / exercise) and she got chopped in half (they even had the manikin done) but they forbade it so they did a stabbing but that was too much as well so they basically had like a pillow close up under a replica of her shirt and stabbed it and that BARELY made it past the censors. That's probably also why some of the sound effects sounded poorly. Also - Ethel... they said that she's the opposite of her character in person... a very sweet lady who rarely cursed but played the part wonderfully.
The ratings board was unpredictable because the way it works is that one particular person on the board has final say on a particular movie. That person changed from one F13 movie to another. With parts 1, 3, 4, and 8, the head censor didn't ask for too many cuts. But the head censors for Part 2, 5, 6, and 7 really must've hated these movies because they demanded lots of cuts.
Tommy got them Cobra Kai hands in this.
I lost count over the times I rewinded back to the part where Reggie dipped once he saw "fake Jason."
The swearing mom character is hilarious. she had great lines.
"Mamma's Famy" meet Jason. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ethel is fantastic
That is the same Tommy in the beginning grave yard scenes. He was just older. Cory was doing the Goonies, that's why he didn't do the whole movie
You two are so funny man😂
This is the one film that skirts the closest to having some character development in depicting the effects of Tommy’s trauma from the previous film. And yet, it also leans into the sex and violence the most of any of the films. And the sheriff’s explanation of Roy’s motivation is straight out of an episode of Scooby Doo. Just a weird movie.
and yet hands down better than 7-10. Also, there's no more sex in part 5 than there is in any movie prior.
I'm writing that i bought the 2020 Shout Factory and Scream Factory 16 discs Friday the 13th Blu-ray Boxset. I'm telling you that you really get your money's worth when it comes to special features and there's 22 audio commentaries and two special features discs too.
Why is funny hearing Fireworks say, "Bless his heart" 😂
Corey Feldman did a Cameo cause He filming The Goonies produced by Steven Spielberg
Sht funny as hell how you engage with the camera lmao
Hope you two are having an great and awesome day ❤️
17:08 - Miguel A. Nuñez Jr. (Action Jackson / Lethal Weapon 3 / Street Fighter / Scooby-Doo, same year as Juwanna Man / Kickin' It Old School)
Fun Fact! Corey Feldman was only in the beginning because he was shooting The Goonies, so they shot the grave scene in his backyard!!
This movie gets a lot of hate but it’s better than quite a few yet to come.
It is far better than 7-10
@travzimmerman1340 nah it's not better than 7
Please please please do Sleepaway Camp
The big TT girl became a teacher.
I bet tons of her guy students watched part 5....15×
Also her name is Debbie sue Voorhees.
You can get off those kind of drugs without side affects... it's called switch to weed!! Worked for me!! LOL
16:15 - did you notice the scene where she's lying there nude (still alive) that the camera drops a little and to the right, just getting that right sleazy angle? Also 19:02 - 'Fadden Was Here' can be seen on the inside wall of the toilet when Demon is doing his business. Vic Fadden was the one that axed Joey
Never understood all the bad reviews and reactions.
I still like this movie.
Corey Feldman was only in the first scene because at that time he was also filming the Goonies with Stephen Spielberg!
Since Miguel Nunez aka Juwanna Man is in the movie, ya’ll should check out the zombie horror movie Return Of The Living Dead, which came out in 1985. Its really scary.
Fun fact: Richard Young (Matthew) also played the fortune hunter in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade who gave young Indy his trademark Fedora.
I never understood why the two greasers from the 50's were in the woods in the 80's taking a crap and fixing their car. Like where did they come from???!
I guess that's what happens when a porn director directs a regular movie LOL
Yall wasnt even like WHAAAAAAT THAT WASNT EVEN JASON!!!?? .. tha fk???
Jason was dead during the events of this film.
part 6 and 7 are my favorite, and I can't wait
Corey was busy doing Goonies.
Corey Feldman couldn't do the movie because he was getting ready to film The Goonies.
You guys need too check out Voorhees & Jason Rising.
great reaction! i’ve loved this film since seeing it as a very young kid! it’s the only true Grindhouse Friday film…. The Director Danny Steinmann was a adult film director/Gonzo Director he was fearless (His vision was coke fueled insanity! The MPAA butcher the film (It would’ve gotten a Rated X) so much was cut out…. i see a lot of value in the film despite all the edits it’s the last real (Adult Friday film) it doesn’t deserve the hate it gets online imo. I defend the film until the day i die (It’s a cross between a Sleazy Midnight Grindhouse slasher mixed with Italian Giallo (If it was released uncut i’m sure more people would respect what the film was meant to be 👍👍👍
There really wasn't that much sex in part 5. In reality, 4 had more.
@@travzimmerman1340 There was Danny Steinmann (Director got a name doing Triple X Features) The original Cut was Rated X the sex scene with Deborah Sue Voorhees (Tina) went far past Hard R The MPAA Flipped lots and lots of cuts the Original sex scenes ran 10-12min. keep in mind everyone involved was doing boat loads of Bolivian marching powder
@14:53 Another splitting headache. 😁
As many times I have seen this, I still don't get the ending!
Great reaction. Definitely check out "Wolfie's Just Fine" music video for A New Beginning. Excellent homage.
How many clues do u want in this movie? Dead bodies in roys ambulance? Haha lol
13:29
Intrezting but not da same wot no real jj?
The guy didn't get no luvin and then got a cleaver to the forehead.
Not really a fan of this one. New blood is pretty good tho can’t wait for you both to react to that one
New Blood is moronic
Terror takes the sound before you make it
It's ironic the kill count in this film is higher with an imposter Jason than it normally is with the real Jason. Granted having a kill practically every few minutes is a byproduct of a crap script (which everyone involved in the making of this film has stated time and again it was) but still.
Of course this movie done shitty at the box office without the real Jason. So naturally part 6 had to be made to bring Jason back.
this was the worst friday the 13th movie ever the fake jason was so dumb the ending was good but this was not a good way to go with the sequel to the last friday the 13th movie
(08:24:43)-(06:50:25)
This is the last good Friday the 13th movie. When Jason becomes an undead killing machine it loses suspense and reality of the situation
No it's not and no it doesn't.
Don't really agree with that 6 was fun.
While I loved virtually all of the Friday The 13th movies....for me Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter was it for me because they used the classic soundtracks.
Did you know that most actors who play Jason are stuntmen
I liked part 5 but it's kinda stupid and brutal. There were too many pointless characters with like 5 lines, then they are dead. Then back to the main characters who you hardly know, now they dead. At least Pam was likeable.
This ones terrible ... next one Is FIRE.. but he looks the best in 7
Terrible take. 5 is the last one with the look and feel of the originals. Jason was dead during the events of the film. ROY was more like Jason than Jason parts 7-10 all of which BTW are all a cinematic abortion and Hodder is criminally overrated and one of the worst to portray the character.
2 is the best film.
3 is the best look (Jason)
4 is the portrayal (Jason)
Stop being a 🐑
