  • In this video I compare the newer 204 Ruger to the 22-250 Remington. I look at the performance of each one to find out which one is faster and which one is more versatile. Hope you enjoy the video!

    I like the 204 and 22-250. I think they compliment each other. I agree though, the 22-250 is a better all around varmint cartridge

      I have both, when I want to save the pelt from a coyote or fox, the 204 is always my choice; usually no exit hole and effective out to 400 yards. The 22-250 is better out past 400, but I can usually call them in, within 200 yards.

    I went the other way and chose the .204 over the 22-250. Looking at ballistics, the are close. The ability to watch your hits helped influence me. Using a 40 grain pill it still makes an effective coyote cartridge. I still want a 22-250 though. 😊

    .22-250 has always been an impressive and efficient cartridge. Hand loading brings this cartridge to a different level even tho some of the newer factory ammo is better than before. 204 is a good cartridge but the 22-250 is a little beast!

    One of the reasons I think BOTH are fun to shoot: almost all the guns made for these cartridges are heavy barrel varmint or target rifles. So, the guns themselves are inherently accurate. The 22-250 I owned was so much fun to shoot. Even at 1000yds, upon pulling the trigger, the bullet is on target....it's just there BEFORE you can blink. I truly regret selling that rifle.

    Have both. In the 39gr Blitzking/40gr VMAX weight class the 204 actually has more down range energy and less wind drift than the 22-250 shooting a 50/55gr VMAX. At about 400-500 yards the 204 will catch and exceed it. You get less barrel heat for sustained shooting and is cheaper to load for. If you want a good coyote round with more power than a 204, get a 243 which would be more versatile than the 22-250. Still like the 22-250, just don’t see a point in having one.

      I fully agree.
      .204 uses less powder, and is desigblned to burn the barrel throats much less than a 22-250.
      I also love .243 win coyotes to moose capability.

    The 22-250 is legendary and hard to beat for varmint. I'd still go 204 for ultimate versatility, hear me out. One AR15 lower with a good trigger and stock and one good optic. Three uppers, 204 small varmint, 223 for bigger varmint and a 6ARC for predators. 👍🙏✌

    Id love to have a .204, but I've been using a .22-250 for 18 years now. I've taken many deer with it amongst varmints. But I'm impressed with the .204. I just can't stop buying big bore rifles lmao. Maybe this month I'll by a .204. Ill keep you posted. Get video, and leaning me more to the .204 brother

    Great video. I just ordered a Ruger American 243 win with a 1 in 9 twist. I was going to get 6mm Creedmoor, but I couldn’t find one, so decided to go with a 243. If you would want to do a comparison video between the 243 and 6mm Creedmoor I would really like that.

      I have a 6mm ARC in an AR platform. Also have many other rifles but If I could only have one rifle I think Id have to keep the 6mm ARC....especially now that the factories are putting out varmint bullets for it.

    The 204 Ruger is based on the obsolete 222 Remington Magnum cartridge which, in my opinion, is a more flexible cartridge than either the 22-250 Remington or the 204 Ruger.

    I'm building a rifle that has a Lilja 31 inch barrel with 1:14 inch twist for the lighter bullets. It will be chambered in 22-250 Ackley Improved.

  • @hopefulballistics
    @hopefulballistics Рік тому +2

    The 22-250 is a little more versatile, but not much. Most rifles come in 1 in 12 twist. The heaviest bullets it can shoot is probably around 60 grains, maybe slightly more. Usually it tops out at 55-60 grains. Great video overall, I enjoyed it

    • @hopefulballistics
      @hopefulballistics Рік тому +3

      @@ReloadingWeatherby both. The 204 Ruger is a CZ Micro Mauser with shorter barrel. The 22-250 is a 26 inch heavy barrel. One rifle geared for carrying and short to medium distance. One is for long distances from a stationary position. They compliment each other. I prefer the rifle of the 204 better. The 22-250 cartridge is probably better overall.

  • @davidcaesar1913

    I have to agree. Although the 204 is an amazing wee cartridge, it is what it is, a small varmint cartridge. The 22-250 on the other hand does everything the 204 can and then some. A 1-12 twist can stabilise everything up to the 68gn pills. The 1-10 twist takes you up to the 75gn pills and the 1-8 twist is designed for bullets in the 80+ range. If your really keen to shoot the heaviest 90gn offering, the 1-7 twist will get you there. However, by this point I would have changed calibres.

    You’ve likely forgot more than I know but Hornady sells 45gr 204 factory rounds and my reloads with a 39gr BK will anchors yotes with ease. It seems someone comes into the discussion with a biased outcome. 204 has less bench movement and muzzle rapport as well… just trying to represent my side of the interests now.

    Awesome video 22 250 for me I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the 204 Ruger either and I'm sure the 204 Ruger has killed plenty of deers but I definitely know a 22 250 will drop them in their tracks.
