Fun video. I thought you were going to pull all the old tire plugs for a minute. I was thinking " who is this guy". Then you didn't and I knew I was on the right channel.
I'm glad you done this because I've been thinking the same on my CJ2A. Most of the *SXS* tires you see have very aggressive tread and look pretty sweet. I enjoyed the video 😁👍 It's a shame that some of the "testing grounds" were off limits. Glad you still had fun though. Take care 🔧🔩
Thanks! I definitely recommend them if you're going mostly off-road, even these worn out ones worked really well. I'm looking forward to a set with good tread!
Tusk Terrabites sxs offroad tires are one of few tires that are DOT Approved for highway use... I have a set on my RZR 900 Trail 50"... Had them all balanced when the tire guy mounted them???? Told him they're going on a Michigan Licensed RZR for highway speeds. You can find them through ROCKY MOUNTAIN ATV/UTV. Smooth as silk at 60mph!
I've been a tire guy for a couple years and the 2 bad ones most likely are just dry cracked and you can't tell. You could tube them if you want, they're fairly cheap and easy to install.
Those were like the humvee tires we used in desert storm, great for off road use, they wore down on highway use, they were drag slicks once the conflict was over
Maybe Santa will bring you a new set of ATV tires. Hole, Hole, Hole!! 😂🥰 Great test and Great shots! Thanks, man! I never would have known the difference between these types of tires. You have opened my eyes. There is no such thing as Santa. 🥺😢
This year, I bought a 2003 Kodiak 450 ATV with the intention of using it as a snow plow. Because we get heavy, wet, snow when it does snow on the West Coast, I was uncertain whether the ATV would be a practical solution for me. We had our first snow fall last week, and the traction I had with the little beast, removed all doubt as to its practicability. The little machine moved snow like jack the bear. I have the V pattern tires, with the center of the V open, and I didn't even have to lock the diffs once to make a full, straight, push of wet snow. The machine is great, but I think the secret was the tires. Call me impressed, and far better than me sliding down the driveway sidways in the Bobcat. Great video and fun topic. Four different rims, no problem. Six thousand leaks, we can handle it.
I've wondered about this very thing since the early days of atvs when they were going from 3 wheels to 4... back when atvs had very little actual suspension, they relied on the low inflation tires to be your suspension... I'm checking FB marketplace now to find atv tires for my wife's Prius. I'll let you know how it goes 😅😅
The biggest difference between the two sets of tires is the ATV tires have aggressive siping (cleats) on the edges. Ride comfort is generally not an issue so the sidewalks are stiffer and can be "driven" on just as much as the face tread. If you want to see tires driven on on the sides watch some of the rock crawling competitions. Cheers Terry
Friend of mine showed me how certain sizes of motorcycle tires work great as fronts on smaller farm tractors, like old school Farmalls and Ford N series.
The side by side segment kind of confirms why i don't bother with "atv tires". Always considered them to be toy look-alikes and put proper offroad tires on ATVs. It also explains why they last longer too. It's almost like they're tailor made for people to fall into the trap and pay extra for nothing.
How about a lawn mower engine in any full size vehicle for around the ranch won’t be fast but can be useful for sure , cheap 5 hp keep maybe . Let’s see what can be done with a small engine . Can’t get much more low Buck right , you probably have tons of small engines laying around,
GrindHard Plumbing Co. put a set on a BMW ute they built & drove it from Idaho to Oregon for the Gambler 500. Worked well for them, they did mention that the tires on pavement had a lot of squirm. Flex: The 15" RZR tires have a taller sidewall and will show less flex than the 16" tires. FWIW: I run 10 psi on road in my '3A (31x10.50R15 Dunlop M/T) and 6 psi offroad. I'd suggest 5-6 psi front & 3-4 psi rear for offroad on the lightweight '2A for comfort and traction w/RZR tires. My $.02---YMMV
Always love the tire test videos….heck, always love ALL the LBG videos… As for the out of bounds test site, we’ll they’ve just challenged you to figure out how to put these tires on your trail bike. Go on…we dare ya…😈
I almost wasted money on a Horrible Fate tire changer for my many pieces of small engine equipment but found large C-clamps and soapy water in a spray bottle to work great. For car tires I mounted a hinged piece of square tubing from the dump to the wall with a shovel cut down mounted on a pin I can move on the tubing. I hate spending money if my brain can prevent it. Besides, I have no money but I have no bills other than phone and liquid go juice.
Tire width also effects flexing the sidewall. The narrower OE tires need to flex more than the wide atv tires, because the flex is caused by contact patch psi. The wider tire is wider, but the narrower tire must get longer.
Looks like the tie rod ends have seen better days. Utah has the right approach public lands; "Welcome to your public lands." Looks like rear open differential.
The way all the holes line up on that one tire looks like it might have had studs installed and pulled out later. If all you want to do is drive off road the newer used tires you found would probably work great and you could still make slow trips on road to get home. My first car was a 42 Ford GPW Jeep and it had 15 inch snow tires on it that worked great. I really wanted the stock 16 inch military rims and found 4 original ww2 Jeep rims with ok tires cheap at a Jeep only shop I found. They actually sucked all around compared to the wider snow tires and drove worse so I swapped back. The guy that eventually bought it when I wanted to upgrade to a power wagon got a lot of spare parts... It did look like a stock ww2 Jeep with the original rims though which was cool.
By the time you went driving I had forgotten that all the rims didn't match. The black Halloween costumes worked well....they had me fooled. (which isn't all that hard to do...but still)
i did not expect the side by side tires to perform that well on a jeep even though they are lighter than most passenger vehicles typically atv tires are a lot softer i thought that might be a downfall
The best way to deal with the pre-existing repairs, when reusing tires, is to slather them with "inner liner sealer", or something similar. If you had painted the inside of those you wouldn't have needed any plugs. Air the tire up before it drys, so it's like ghetto run-flat.
They make those interior flat patches you roll on with a spur tool with a plug molded on the end of them also. -we were forced to change the method and patches in 2010 a KIA. Do to a family apparently was killed do to a failed patch then blow out.
What made four wheeler tires so nice was their small wheels and thin side walls for that squishy, flexibility. Side by sides are basically plastic jeeps and they have to make the tires like truck tires with thick side walls to support them. I don't think you're achieving the effect you're after.
I know this video was about tires, and nice job demonstrating the benefits of airing down. (Especially in that particular "test area") BUT. I would love to see you put some lockers on that thing. (Or at least one)
But lockers might take away the challenge! It actually does pretty well as-is, I only had trouble on that one hill, everything else it just puttered right up.
Seems to me, when I was a kid. You could go off roading anywhere that had a "Trail system". Now it seems their are very few OHV (Off highway Vehcile) trails around. Like they want us to stop driving cars and only mountain bike or oppress horses on trails that are off road. either way hurts my heart a little to know my grand kids one day won't be able to enjoy the things I did.
with two implement wheels... you can use the holes to fab up an Ausie winch on each wheel. that would be a cool addition. Put them on the rear? rope guides up front on bumper
IMHO go with a rope on both sides of axle. Sure only one will be powered....... but other wheel still turns as it rolls .... thinking it will help spread the force of pull to both axle spring mounts instead of just one??? Might need a spreader bar (slide outs on corners of the bumpers made of reciever tube?? ??? or something to guide rope inline with chassis for portion of the forces and keep it off wheels, while at same time keeping rope aligned with what it is wrapping on. ??
I use slime on my 72 van and usually I drive until the tires are bald and they have eight nails in them I just pull the nails out and keep going until I can afford new tires
roofing tar and the same pruneing trees sealer coatings or i watch and study tire sealer try all so i use slime some times water paint brush coat inside times apply light coat dry and repeat point is regrover home made even spikes for grip chains for tread or cables most effective
Is that an open diff in the back? Question answered. Sorry I'm not a Jeep guy. BTW, the bump steer is real. Nice thurough test and useful info. Prolly a good option for a dune buggy too, if they are cheaper than other options.
probably ok off road on a cj3 but no dot number which means no highway and if ridden on the highway speed might be real dangerous over 35mph death at 70
That must have been hell on your back cuz I seen that cheap leaves the ground and those seats on the CJ's and the military ones are not that comfortable hope you're all right have an excellent weekend
I myself was not all that impressed with these tires overall. Maybe your Jeep was not heavy enough to get the tires to flex enough to conform to the rocks and terrain to present the best grip and flotation. And you demonstrated why some form of limited slip or locker is a desired feature for off road vehicles.
ya know one of the guys in my samurai club uses bia ply tractor tires and he streets it to an from the trails.... he's a mad lad but doesn't have a single straight body panel on his poor samurai now i'm wondering how a set of these would behave on a nearly stock samurai... already weigh less then a razer
hole hole hole hole hole holey hell that's a lot of holes .. looks like they made some kind of rubbery swiss cheese out of that thing that's what they did !! 😅
Nice seller to tell you that there were two tires that were “completely shot”. Honest of them👍🏼
Fun video. I thought you were going to pull all the old tire plugs for a minute. I was thinking " who is this guy". Then you didn't and I knew I was on the right channel.
Love all the different camera angles, adds a lot to the video :)
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback, I'll keep that in mind on the next one.
Good deal even if two were worn out almost.love the content aswel by the way.take care from sunny Liverpool 😂 uk.
I'm always happy to log into YT and find a new video from you, thanks a bunch.
Glad you like them!
Jeep… the original side by side
And cheaper... And road legal.
I bought an old fiero one time and put three wheeler tires on it ... plus one tire .. that was definitely an interesting ride😅

@@LowBuckGarage Are they better than the old style NDT and by how much.

Great program buddy
And love the way you do bodywork on those old vehicles great job buddy keep it up
Years ago I saw a vw bug gy set up with atv tires in a small sand pit bowl .I went pretty good with those little doughnuts !
Spraying on some flex seal also works to help eliminate leaks on rims👍
Does that really work?
Yeah Big brother has to make sure we don't mess up the dirt piles. Has always Liked and shared. All my best.

I can't believe someone actually charges you for those tires. You did them a service.
Love the old jeep vids

Yes a few of the hardest miles ever on a set of tires
Cool Jeep, fun video.

Being the two are similar in weight. And the Jeep with considerably less power...sxs tires should work great to and be lighter
Friend of mine showed me how certain sizes of motorcycle tires work great as fronts on smaller farm tractors, like old school Farmalls and Ford N series.
I concur with your 15:45 hypothesis
I really enjoyed watching this test. Thank you for documenting and sharing this. These videos are very informative.
I got a set of 32x10r15 off a can am and put them in my full sized ford bronco and they still hold up just fine
Probably ran over some barb wire on a trail somewhere. Did the same to a set of atv tires similar pattern of holes
Those tires have been through some thorns. The thorn rots away leaving a hole to leak air.
The side by side segment kind of confirms why i don't bother with "atv tires". Always considered them to be toy look-alikes and put proper offroad tires on ATVs. been itchin to try out a set of side-by-side tires on my xj
Must be great for in the desert. :)

Your content is VERY intriguing I'm going to forward your page to Matt's off-road Recovery, it'd be neat to see you at the 2025 wrecker games

Not a bad review for worn out tires.

Thanks! I don't think I have the leg power to push these tires with pedals, I'd make it about 50' on level ground...
The plug patterns in that tire look like someone ran over a barbed wire gate.
Harbor freight should sell nice big packages of tire plugs. Cheers

Dawn dish soap and warm water in a spray bottle works wonders.

Yeah, everything in the steering system is worn out. I'll fix it someday... And yes, open differentials on both ends.

That's a good idea. I didn't realize how many holes were in them when I mounted them, I was figuring one or two...
Another trick is taking a ratchet strap around the tread and tightening it then trying to fill it with air🍻
Black paint was the right idea for the mismatched rims. Can’t notice it at all.
They make those interior flat patches you roll on with a spur tool with a plug molded on the end of them also.
-we were forced to change the method and patches in 2010 a KIA. Do to a family apparently was killed do to a failed patch then blow out.
👍👍👍
Certainly looked scientific to me😂. I wonder how a set of bar treads would go? Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
Bar treads suck , the only good thing is if you could get them under 20$ a tire you could cut them up for more aggressive treads
Thanks
When completely shot means that they were actually used to test 12 gauge bird shot penetration in atv tires.
They should be perfect on a keep , it’s gonna soften your ride up good

the fun tires to change by hand are the 60 x12.5 on a chevy rim.
Guess ya haven't done 19.5 tires 😐
Now I'm wondering if hitting the inside of your tires with Flex-Seal might've been the magic bullet you needed.

The "R" stands for radial.
One tire had snow spikes installed through the tire hence the consistent hole pattern. IHMO
Cactus needle holes!

Great vid! Love the jeep. Is it a true 'lefty' ?
That jeep needs a spool in the rear a d locker up front!
lots patches use matriels addhesives
👍👌mint!
I also thought I could hear the tire flexing a bit as you were rolling on lower speeds on the pavement
I would think it would be because of the sidewall being thicker
Use tireject it's like a liquid rubber and it's better than slime it isn't water based so your rims won't rust
Thanks for the tip! I'd never heard of that before, I'll give it a try.
the highway tires only have a 4 ply sidewall and the atv tire is 10 ply sidewall

what type editing sofware do you use i need really easy im just starting out
You should have left the tires aired down to go off road driving. So they could grip more.
I disagree on the trail usage for the Willys, Willy's Jeeps and Ford's GPWs and Bantam Jeeps were the horses of the military
Question to anyone watching…. What ford rims fit the rear axle of the jeeps ?…
I THINK THEY USED THEM WITH BOLTS ON THEM.
Been thinking of getting a set of 35/15s rockzillas for my Jeep same price or cheaper than LT tires
Same here . Did you go that route?
