The stuff I was taught as a youngster by the old Vietnamn, Korea, ww2 vets, Ryan has covered ALL of it throughout his videos. Atleast the technique and fundamentals that work. A zero bs teacher. But at the same time the way he presents it, translates well to all age groups. Phenomenal teacher. Going through his videos ... he s not reading a script wrote by a team. This guy actually knows his stuff. He UNDERSTANDS it. Experienced it.
Learned all this on the rifle team in high school, 75-78. Glad to see it come around again. Teenagers today don’t have the opportunity to learn this like I did! For standing we put our left thumb under the trigger guard and rested the stock on the rest of the fingers.
One other thing. What hes is teaching in a 7 min video took an entire week of classes followed a week at the range just to somewhat master at the 200 yard line, i.e. the sitting and kneeling positions. Great video.
Just got my hunting rifle and the first 30 seconds of this video was exactly what I was thinking before I headed out to the range. And this video explained exactly what I wanted to know! Thank you!
Great video!! Finally a educated instructional video. I'm getting tired of these over night UA-cam experts spitting out this garbage they just read online lay night. Again A+ video
When I first went to the range to get ready for hunting with my dad, all he taught me to do was zero in the scope and shoot from prone or the bench. I quickly realized that this isn't the case when hunting and I messed around with different stances. This video did give some more stances I could use and I'm glad I have both the bipod and sling.
It has been a while, this is a real nice refresher, with candid advise about getting off the bench and really practice the way we should be, as we would shoot in the wild. Thank you for the video and the sling tips...I am grateful and appreciate it lots!
Great video! We teach the unsupported positions (sitting, kneeling and standing) and sling us in Project Appleseed. You sling is much more than a tool for carrying your rifle. If you really want to improve your unsupported shooting learn to master the use of a loop and hasty sling.
I might have to try some of these... I do pigeon control in my neighborhood, and just the other day I used a wild Figure-4 position to shoot a pigeon off of a roof from a seated position. Was probably the most accurate high-angle shot I ever took, and it opened my eyes to the fact that I need to focus on my off-hand shooting as much as my rested shooting.
Thanks Ryan again as on all of your videos! Can you make a video of how the military snipers paint their rifles like yours? Your videos always make common sense that's applicable.
Great video man! Lots of valuable info for a hunter and avid shooter like myself, and many others, thanks. Really liked the tips on the sling, its a great tool, when you know how much you can get out of it, and not just to hang your rifle by, lol..
Very Good Training. I train this way, I get teased for not shooting good groups in the Videos I make, but practice this way for Hunting. After firing this way, when You have the luxury of a rest You shoot very well.
Overall good video. I myself sight in my rifle at the range and get my best groups. I then shoot my pellet gun at home at about 20 yards with dime sized targets. I practice any position in my back yard. Standing is the most important position! Last two deer kills reaction shots at 115 and 30 yards. Pellets are cheap $10 for a thousand. My range cots $20 plus ammo. I practice standing with one armed tucked tightly aiming the weapon downrange with off hand loose on side, good exercise!
One thing I would disagree with is when using a rest I was taught to use the sling for support and put the back of the left hand on support whether laying down using a pack or standing. Do everything you normally would just use support to brace the back of the left hand. Don't rest rifle on anything with out left hand between .Hope that makes sense. Thanks for sharing
Ryan, do you have instructions on how your sling is made? Or have you made them available for sale in any way? It looks very effective and user friendly.
Doug Lancon kind of looks like the Magpul MS4 sling because it has that quick cinch strap to adjust the length except the MS4 has QD connections and can be configured as a 1 or 2 point.
You really need to check out Ryan's book, "Long Range Shooting". There's a wealth of good information in there, the videos are great supplements, but he gives you a much better explanation in the book.
For improved shooting positions, I've only made it with squirrel hunting with an air gun so far, but I've jammed a knife into a tree to make my own rest, didn't get it solid enough to hold against real recoil but that may have been slightly dull and a harder tree fighting against me
I have a question, is Ryan Cleckner a former member of the Military? These techniques he is teaching are great and what I was taught from Marine Marksmanship training.
Good advice! Unfortunately, my local range only allows shooters to use the prone or the bench. The baffle prevents both the sitting and the kneeling. There's one place nearby that I think allows the standing, but permanent benches make it difficult to even use the prone.
😂you’re going to be surprised how BA..um difficult it is😂 you’re a saint sir and thank you for the education I will definitely try these positions my next rifle session ❤
Anyone else appreciate how fast and concise he is? Thumbs up for getting to the point and not wasting time with irrelevant talking.
You have some of the best shooting fundamentals on UA-cam.
6:42 he was about to say "how bad you are." He wouldn't be wrong though lol
Ryan Lockwood I thought the same thing! He was right for sure
Nice catch I was going to comment lol. He almost let it slip
Ryan's the best simplistic presenting instructor. From novice to advanced, he can have something to help for anyone.
Just found this guy tonight and have learned more about practical shooting than I have in a lifetime. Very concise.
I actually did such positions on photography and actually it worked for me
Raihan Purboyo belajar nembak dimana ya??
Shooters gonna shoot
Very "old school" Marine Corps Marksmanship training.
It works!
Ryan is an amazing instructor. Just well thought out, no nonsense or fluff. Facts.
Learned all this on the rifle team in high school, 75-78. Glad to see it come around again. Teenagers today don’t have the opportunity to learn this like I did! For standing we put our left thumb under the trigger guard and rested the stock on the rest of the fingers.
Mr. Cleckner I have your long distance shooting handbook, great book from what I've read so far. Very informative.
Marine Corps has been using a loop sling for many years and it is very stable.
One other thing. What hes is teaching in a 7 min video took an entire week of classes followed a week at the range just to somewhat master at the 200 yard line, i.e. the sitting and kneeling positions. Great video.
Love his videos but there's plenty of videos put out by the NSSF that are informative & interesting :) Love their variety.
Just got my hunting rifle and the first 30 seconds of this video was exactly what I was thinking before I headed out to the range. And this video explained exactly what I wanted to know! Thank you!
I have not tried this yet but so far this is the best video I’ve seen on explaining different shooting positions

Excellent instruction. Thank you for the tips. My son and I will use them for sure !
Six years later, still such an awesome video! Even for people late to the game like myself. I subscribed!
Great video!! Finally a educated instructional video. I'm getting tired of these over night UA-cam experts spitting out this garbage they just read online lay night. Again A+ video

Matthew Esparza same lol i couldn't keep steady at all
This video help me advance from marksmen to expert 40/40, the sling is the ultimate tip for shooting kneeling.
It has been a while, this is a real nice refresher, with candid advise about getting off the bench and really practice the way we should be, as we would shoot in the wild. Thank you for the video and the sling tips...I am grateful and appreciate it lots!
This is my favorite series from NSSF
Every video by this man is gold!
For me, his videos are really helpful :) Thanks NSSF and Ryan Cleckner :)
I love his videos, easy to understand. I have learned a ton on how to shoot. Thanks!
I always enjoy your videos, they're informative as well as entertaining. The MOA & MILS videos were especially good. :-)
Ryan is great! What a master! Thank you for your instructional and adversarial videos!!
Great video! We teach the unsupported positions (sitting, kneeling and standing) and sling us in Project Appleseed. You sling is much more than a tool for carrying your rifle. If you really want to improve your unsupported shooting learn to master the use of a loop and hasty sling.
Another great video from Ryan! I love this guy's teaching style. I wish I could have learned to shoot from him!

Ryan & the NSSF are just awesome... Thanks for everything you do guys (n gals)

@@calisti555 super late comment I know, but for anyone interested the sling he is using is his own design. "Wilderness Cleckner Cuff Sling"
Thank you, Sir
Thanks, great info and a very well done video!
