The 40 series GPUs look to be complete game changers for gaming laptops. Those are some massive gains in power efficiency
im so glad i waited on getting a new laptop, every few years the stars align and we get so much new hardware
But nothing compared to the performance per watt of the upcoming Apple silicon M3, pro, max, and ultra chips, X86 os dead, ARM is the future, just need to optimize the games for MacOS, or emulate Windows, which is fine for most games anyway, and Rosetta is working so well anyway.
@@ncard00 Not going to happen. just not enough ppl on macs to warrant support.
@@ACE112ACE112 There will be, once Apple leaves the competition in the dust, which they already have, and could easily, they have so much more money than Intel, AMD, Nvidia combined, and Windows too is so badly optimized with the underlying code being the same as from windows xp or 95, it’s so bad and uninteresting, Apple’s laptop can run no slower battery than on plugged in, and the fans are just near silent, even at full load, trust me, it’s only a matter of time.
@@ncard00 This stuff won't matter until Apple can actually have better gaming performance compared to that of window pc's.
I wish the longevity of these laptops would be brought up more. Battery bloating and other heat-related issues are so common.
How can you know if they’re not even released lol
@@LoFi3 I suppose they're talking about gaming laptops in general
@@LoFi3 it’s just a no brainer with battery technology remaining the same for years
I agree, but I also think people just toss things too early and/or don't have any idea how to maintain their machines. My alienware 13 R3 is 9 years old (crazy to type that) and still runs great with a gtx1060. I've been wanting to upgrade because even after replacing the battery twice it won't last more than 40 minutes and weighs a ton... but plugged in it's still a tank.
Exactly! My Razer Blade 15 Mercury White Rtx 2070 swelled up and I had to remove the battery! Plugged in at all times now. Ordered a replacement battery on Amazon, but it came damaged (metal bent in half!! Like it fell off a truck or something?) returned it and have been battery free since
Nvidia is likely using the 4090 vs the 3070 and in Cyberpunk 2077 with RTX Ultra and DLSS 3.0 with Frame Generation to get that 1/3 power equivalency item there.
I bet they included the 3x input latency in there as well.
Latency should be mitigated with Nvidia reflex…at least that’s what they said…
Likely 4070. Both 4060 and 4070 have 35W mode, not 4080 and 4090.
How does it feel to be right
The fact that 4000 mobile GPUs are now out, I wonder how would the pricing be for the 3000 series for the past year?
I hope it starts to become way cheaper
@@kareemelbrashy1478 🤞🤞
Who really needs 4000 mobile GPUs? There is hardly any (good) game that needs a new GPU, except MS Flightsim. It's not hard to predict that notebooks sales this year will slump.
@@TheBadFred people who do other things besides game
Should drop if supply of new 4000 will be sufficient and they are not overpriced. Not sure about the second one

Just in the thumbnail the laptop with 24 cores, it's always mind boggling the adaption of technology just in the last 5-10 years. I remember when dual core was crazy and quad core was ludicrous 💯
18 inch laptops is the best news to come to gaming laptops in years! Yeah love them Desktop Replacements!

Ah, new products with new technologies. What a time! If only I could afford any of those.
If only. Well, if you're doing nothing with your life then it's no wonder you can't afford it. Get a real job.
We can afford.
Just ditch the sidetracking vices and discipline ourselves.
I've been putting little by little every paycheck saving up for a new gaming laptop. It adds up quick.
Dave's turned into a marketing mouthpiece for these tech companies.
One Like for the engineers who design such massive machines
Man, this is great news for laptops.
We can finally get desktop level performance on laptops
If it wasn't for AMD's Ryzen, we would have 11th gen intel with 5% upgrade over ...7th gen : P
Still waiting for the generation that has power bricks heavier than the base system
Dave, I appreciate your perspective. Thank you for your hard work here.
I think the 3x figure is when using DLSS3. It is probably 50% faster.
Is nobody gonna talk about those background colors? The studio looks amazing!
I hope Razer refreshes all their laptops with a 16:10 aspect ratio. I have been lusting for either the blade 15 or 17 for years, so the new 16" is great, especially because it doesn't have that thick bottom bezel. It looks more like the Dell XPS, which I believe is the best looking laptop today, in overall design. Great video Dave, the technological improvements have me very excited.
Mans said "lusting" lol. Good word choice

The new Intel 13th Generation mobile CPUs along with Nvidia 40 series mobile GPUs appear to have noticeable performance gains over the 12th generation and 30 series parts respectively. I will be upgrading to the new Dell XPS 15 with a 13900H and 4050 or 4060 Ti once it becomes available.
What XPS are you using currently?

This looks insane i need me one can't wait to see some these laptops reviews from you
I appreciate the links in the description or even the names.
Oh man, I'm super excited
This is legitimately super cool. The only thing is I kind of wish they went with OLED screen opening on the Zephyrus. How is a mini LED compared to OLED? I don’t know I mean I think OLED looks better.
ON THE OTHER HAND, MINI LED LOOKS OK To and has near to true dark.
But idk
I guess OLED could have been an option (especially on the higher end models). But OLED in general has a high risk from burn in and you have limits on the display panel frame rate. Thus, you need to take into account heating dissipation from the display panel. Quote me if I am wrong, but I think most OLED laptops out there are capped at 120hz, and are made towards art or content creators. Good news is they ASUS has OLED gaming monitors, and I wonder if they plan to bring it towards a small factor. We'll have to see ;)
Personally... I would choose mini LED over the OLED, they can produce true black like OLED, brighter screen, same fast response rate and NO burn in. I'd say it's a no brainer choice though.
@@revrenecalyx837
It isn't true black though. It is close, but not quite there. there can be light around the edges of objects... If OLED is 500 nits that is quite good, I'd be ok. Everyone talks about burn in but I've never got it on my iPhone
@@revrenecalyx837 I would be ok with mini-LED or OLED, old maybe slightly better. But i am ok with either. I hope zephyrs M16v models with miniLED wont be too much. They are only 4080/90 ones.
I expect probably 3k? It is a lotttt. I hope it isn't more, I mean 3k is already pushing it I wouldn't spend more than that.
@@joshpeck9266 Have you seen the mini-LED in person? I live in third world country and sadly I can't see it in person yet (not available here). What I said before is what I heard from a review...
HOWEVER, I did read somewhere, the new G14 is offered with non-mini LED version as well (IPS Panel). So you can choose either Anime Matrix or Mini-LED, but you can't have both.
Very nice looking machines!

And here I am with my Acer Helios 300 2022 that I bought on black Friday for £1600 down from £2000 with an i7 12700h, 3070ti, 16gb ram, 1tb ssd, 17.3 inch qhd. Was it a good deal or should've waited for the new Nvidia and intel configurations? 🤔
if the 3070's wattage is above 130W, its a great purchase, as doubling the E-Cores and new IPC only netting ~10% improvement...hope your device doesn't throttle heavily under load...

Those power eficiency graphs do lool to good to be true, I wonder if there comparing the same fps but dlss 2 on the 30 series and dlss 3 on the 40 series.
happy new year guys!
this video ending with "okay" has me spooked.
I'm ready to bet that "3x power efficiency" is with DLSS 3 frame generation enabled. Nvidia's marketing has been super sketchy this year. At some point they claimed the 4070ti was 3x faster than the 3080 or something like that, but it could obviously only be true with frame generation enabled. They never disclosed how they got that metric. Extremely misleading.
You wanna talk about efficiency Dave? Then how about the fact that laptops will be 1 tier below desktops in this generation? The laptop 4060 will be based on desktop 4050, laptop 4070 will be based on desktop 4060 and so on? More cores gives more energy efficiency, but yeah let's ignore that and just praise Nvidia for putting worse binned chips to LAPTOPS, where cooling is limited and efficiency is critical. And before someone tells me "they can't just put proper desktop chips into laptops", guys, they are even putting a desktop 4080(4090m) into a 14 inch Zephirus G14 this year. So no, there is no excuse to use worse, less efficient chips in laptops and support Nvidia's greed buy saying how great their new laptop GPUs are.
At this point i don’t want more power, i want more heat management and less fan noise while at full power.
3:26 yes!! finally razer moves to 16:10 aspect ratio. I've been waiting forever bro
Now that's a Happy new year for tech 🍺🍺🍻.
Finally your studio looks a little better. Because when you introduced this new space that you film in, I was taken aback, it was so grey and featureless and dull. Almost looked like an unfinished construction site.
What about the laptop..
Yeah, more than any of the performance gains, I’m excited to see strides in efficiency and battery life. Intel & Nvida have had performance for a long time. But they drink power, and basically useless unless plugged in. - To me, that’s makes it a portable desktop, not a laptop. So I’m looking forward to the testing in the coming months.
Then it's not a gaming laptop. You can buy many laptops that last hours but they aren't gaming laptops.
Yeah I agree. I want to see big improvements to battery life while doing intense stuff like content creation and gaming, especially how it compares to M1 Macbooks. Really hope Dave tests this.
AMD isn't any better than Nvidia in terms of efficiency, look at linus lastest video
@@JoeMaranophotography Well thats the whole point, isn't it? Ideally, we get powerful laptops that ALSO last long. Apple did it (granted, with ARM) but I'm sure the big brains at Nvidia and Intel can pull something off.
It's so funny that Intels calls them "efficiency cores" wile burning nearly 160W of power.
bro this laptop is a very powerful beast
17 inch laptop, play the game on 1080p with dlss on performance and frame generation, wonder how little power it uses and how battery life will be
These laptops are going to be so expensive lol glad I grabbed a 3070ti laptop for under 1500 cad
Same here but with 11gen intel 😭 still good deal
I'm pretty excited for new tech. As I watch from my 2015 laptop lol.

Dave : Hyping for 13th gen + rtx 40x0!
Me : So the batt lasts for 30 mins, right Dave 🙃?
Sorry sidenote, I love how smooth your videos are lately. So many frames.
ehm Dave you seem to have missed the whole pricing aspect of these laptops. The low end to mid-range GPUs are actually expensive AF and offer only minimal gain over the previous gen.. Yeah without considering the price these laptops seem amazing but are they worth the money? I doubt it big time.
I can't wait to see a review/impressions of the new 2023 zephyrus g14!!!
Thank you ❤️
I'm more curious about the "desktop" grade GPUs that are going into laptops. 7 years ago, I bought a Sager Notebook that has a GTX 980 and i7-6700K. Crazy and insane to still think about desktop grade components inside of a laptop. But now NVIDIA can't even make the designation as to if we're even going to see those type of components ever go into a laptop.
Nvidia refused putting desktop GPUs into laptops since 3000 series. They are cutting them down again, and it makes me mad how big youtubers like Dave 2D and LinusTechTips are all OK with it. Laptops are again 1 tier below desktops just like they were during the M times, or have less cores, meaning less energy efficiency. For example if you lock a desktop 3070 at 150 watts it would perform better than the laptop 3070 of the same wattage, just because it has more cores and works more efficiently. Screw Nvidia.
I bought the 2021 MSI GE66 not only did the keyboard break taking them 6 weeks to repair it, but the left hinge has now broken off and MSI’s dog shit 1 year warranty wore off so I’m SoL. Hopefully my MicroCenter hooks me up but I plan on never making the mistake of buying from MSI again.
Performance was cool thou(3070, 10th gen i7)
So, the hinges are still a problem?
It's such a shame, I always look at these gaming laptops and want to pull the trigger on one but they all have serious QC issues it seems (MSI hinges, Razer battery bloating, ASUS in general, etc.,). The hardware is amazing and performance looks sick but I can't justify spending $1k+ just to gamble on a laptop that'll last for more than a year. I owned a Lenovo and after a year and a half the power adapter short-circuited and caused damage to the motherboard. I had amazing gaming experiences with the 2070 Super and the i7 (tho it ran super hot) but the amount of issues (first the fan bearings, then the power jack, and finally motherboard) that came up simply didn't make it worth it. I'm holding off on buying another high performance laptop until one of these manufacturers can show an acceptable level of QC and reliability (I know they can't be perfect, but from how many people have issues it's definitely way worse than it should be).
@@AdventureShock yup.
I believe that the biggest problem that we have with Windows laptops in terms of power efficiency , are not only correlated with efficient cores. Intel and Amd introduced more efficient cores in their last generations, but despite that, the energy consumption, compared to the M line of Apple, was too high. The biggest problem is in the integration with windows 11. I really expect that they will solve this problem, in this generation. Anxiety to see the the performance of the new 4000 series mobile of Nvidia.
NVIDIA is using TSMC's advanced nodes that's why
I JUST bought a Razer Blade 15 with a 12900 and a 3070ti with the 240hz 1440p OLED panel and these are already coming out??? Rip

Lovely stuff and great content as per usual. But guys, may I encourage you guys to get the Ayaneo 2, purchase a rtx card.. boom, you have a handheld and home docked pc. Handheld devices are strongly becoming a thing. But nonetheless, to each there own, spend that much if it fancy’s you 😌
Literally just watched a Gamers Nexus video where NVIDIA's "3x gain" claim was debunked as pure fiction for the 4070ti, can't wait to see if the same marketing team is playing that card again for mobile chips (1:36).
curious to see how this compares to AMD Advantage in terms of power efficiency! was thinking about getting an AMD system this year but might hold out if the intel-nvidia combo proves good
first amd may not put IOD on mobile, which itself use 40 w, so the maxism core count amd may get is 8 cores. 2nd, AMD "efficiency" Is due to its lack of supports on port. when intel has full TB4 support and all kinds of connectivity. So yes, AMD will get sht beat out.
Hey Dave. Love your videos :D
So, how do you (Dave) and you guys (audience) think the power efficient cores on the new chips will do at making the computers last longer, like MacBooks?
Well, my guess the laptops will last a little longer. But nothing compared to the macbooks. These chips are more for gaming and creation.

They better have very good cooling efficiency because the 40 series are very power hungry and are known to melt wires if not checked and since they're going to be mobile, I hope the fans will be able to keep up. If not, get ready for the laptop to sound like a jet.
@@ZSKI-bq7yv laptops already do sound like jets. the wire melting was an issue of bad connection not power consumption., for their performance at the same wattage theyre still around 30% over 30 series.
it's because intel and Nvidia (and AMD, to a lesser extent) have gone for max power in response to Apple's M1/M2 chips with very little of the energy efficiency.
