- Hats: fashion statement, or deadly weapon? If your name is Kung Lao and you are a Mortal Kombat character, the answer may be: "both." That hat is perhaps the most defining characteristic of his, and it alone is perhaps enough to define him as an icon in fighting games. But as it is in real life, a person is more than their fashion statements. We'll dive deeper into the character of the bladed hat with the Full Story of Kung Lao. I was so angry when they killed him off in MK 9...especially so early in the story. And just had him as basically a lackey in MK 10. Hopefully in MK 11 he’s given a bigger role/purpose. He’s Always been my favorite character in the franchise, very underrated.
I was angry at first until I realized how much of a cocky bastard kung lao was acting at kahn's arena.

Kung Lao, Kung Lao. I like the character a lot but I get the sense that netherealm's writer really don't like him. In mk9 he had 1 great moment being 1 match away from winning the second tournament, stayed a revanant in mkx, sidelined in mk11, and became the butt of everyone's joke in the pre-fight dialogues. If the writers won't do anything with Kung Lao, the should at least give him a break.

Kung Lao in my opinion is better than Liu Kang. He is a more serious Shaolin. Also..... Kung Lao is not a student of Raiden (my theory coming up) instead. He is a student of (too easy to see) FUJIN!!! That makes so much sense.

The graphical increase from X to 11 is incredible. Makes no sense that it could be that much better.
Same for 9 to 10, the 4 year skips were worth it
One little correction: Shinnok does not "die" by the hands of Cassie Cage. She does defeat him, but as an Elder God (fallen or not) he can't die for gods are eternal. In the after credit scene of MKX it is revealed, that Raiden decapitated Shinnok, but even in this state, the head is still alive. Raiden then states, that "There are fates worse than death", and the MKX chapter closes for good. In the opening trailer of MK11 we actually see some of the torture scenes between Raiden and Shinnok and the living head can been seen once again.

Kung Lao is My favorite Character!! It is my head canon that Kung Lao is the original Champion of Mortal Kombat. He didn't appear in the First one because his ability would have been OP. HE WHO MUST WIN,.....IS KUNG LAO!

Kung Lao should have been the protagonist after Liu Kang died in Deadly Alliance. Would have been fitting that Liu Kang was the protagonist in from the first MK to MK4, and Kung Lao from Deadly Alliance to Armageddon. I mean Kung Lao is the descendant of the Great Kung Lao and he was said to be as good if not better than Liu Kang as a fighter, but he was lazy while Liu Kang was hard working which is why Liu Kang surpassed him at the end. After Liu Kang's death he could have decided to not be lazy anymore and become more responsible in order to protect the Earthrealm since he was Earthrealm's best fighter now that Liu Kang died.
You forgot to mention that 1 The Great Kung Lao beat Shang Tsung who himself had won 9 Mortal Kombat tournaments in a row and 2 the winner of the Mortal Kombat tournament does not age until the next tournament which is held once a generation (about 50 years).

Kung lao was not in the 2 MK movies of the 90s so i never knew much about him since i only played the MK game for ps2 that had a chess mini game. Forgot the name. I only rented it but it was good. I want to get mk11 & that will be the first mk game ive owned, but its the movies/lore that i liked. I also beat MK mythologies as a kid but i dont count that as my 1st mk game
Kung Lao is just bad ass. Midway lore is far better.
I wish they did explore the fact that Raiden mentored Liu Kang and Fujin mentored Kung Lao.

It mentions that Kung Jin is the cousin of Kung Lao, but Kung Jin is actually the Newphew to Kung Lao.
I love these videos but what I wish is that Netherrealm studios would bring out remastered versions of the original 4 Mortal Kombat games made with their style but following the original timeline unlike their own games timeline.

Where is the actual reference of kung lao being the original chosen one? Everybody says it but nobody ever says the source of where it's actually said. I'm looking for it.
Great game but I must say the storyline sucks or confusing. Thank u for clearing that up for me. They need better story telling. This dying and reviving is why I don’t play the story mode

Personally I believe Kung Lao is stronger than Liu Kang, My only proof simply being Kung Lao defeating the Deadly Alliance then going on to defeat Kintaro rightafter. He seems much more talented than Liu Kang. However, Kung Lao's cockiness and Laziness make him seem like he is less skilled than Liu Kang. In other words Kung Lao could be better than Liu Kang but he is too lazy. Since Liu never slacks on his training unlike Lao he is more skilled
He actually loss against the deadly alliance in the og timeline. Him beating them here would imply either the villains are weaker, or the hero's are stronger.
