As a 30 year retired law enforcement investigator who supervised the department and also taught at the police academy, in my opinion, this police department did almost everything wrong., from the leaf blower, solo cups for evidence collection, not packaging evidence correctly, not getting a search warrant for the house, allowing a family friend to be the lead investigator, not securing the crime scene until all evidence is collected, conducting a tent so no more snow would fall on the crime scene, and now interviewing these two subjects together and not at the police station, which is a neutral location. Everybody who was at the house that night should have immediately (as soon as the victim was put in the ambulance) been taken separately to the police department for interviews. I'm curious what f**kup we are going to hear about next. The police cannot go back and fix this now. The result may be an innocent person goes to jail or a guilty person goes free. I am absolutely flabbergasted and shocked that a department would conduct such a shoddy investigation.

As someone who sat on a jury once, I cannot at this point in the trial, see anyone on the jury convicting her. There is no way you can say the "evidence" they collected is proof of anything with how shoddy the collection was. There is just too much doubt in my mind. There are just too many holes poked into the testimony by the defense. I feel so sorry for Mr McKeefe's family having to sit there and hear just how little the Canton police dept and police officers respected him by not doing the best job they could for him once he was dead. I mean, if this was your FRIEND, why wouldn't you want everything to be exact? Dot your i's and cross all your t's?

Thank you for your thoughts, it’s great to hear from LEO’s not associated with the case. Unfortunately us ‘locals’ feel like this investigation (or lack there of) was done on purpose, for the exact reasons you’ve stated. They needed a scapegoat - Karen- because a dead cop showing up on a fellow cops lawn looks terrible, without a suspect. If she’s found guilty - it’s great for what locals feel are the true murderer/s, they get off- if she’s found not guilty- then the ‘shoddy’ investigation will also be great for (again what locals feel) are the true murderer/s, they can’t get prosecuted. So it’s a win/win essentially for those who may be truly guilty of the murder of Officer John Okeefe..

I didn't know anything about this case until last week watching live with EDB. So I come into this as if I were on the jury with no pre-conceived notions one way or another. So far, I have seen and heard nothing that makes any sense as to why Karen Reed is the defendant here. She took a glass from one bar to another. She drove somewhere after the Waterfall bar maybe and maybe or maybe not was drinking alcohol and or water or clear liquid. 9 days of evidence has Not even remotely connected her to a murder or any kind of other nefarious activity. If the case rested today, and if I were on the jury, it would be acquittal 100%. Lally and his team really need to step it up - another 6 or 7 weeks of no evidence??

    • @origamikiddo2625
      @origamikiddo2625 4 місяці тому +4

There is some relative-ness to this, as a middle aged person who texts over calling, rarely to me means how much I verbally talk to my dad on the phone. But my sis in law calling me every other or every 3 weeks is frequently. If Julie provided child care for her kids (I think I heard that) then regular calls makes sense, like oh can you watch them this week or im running late or early, etc. She should have said sometimes - no that still seems distancing, she should have just said yes, we talk on the phone but make it about something else. Definitely trying to distance herself, which seems suspiscious cuz its small town, it makes so much more sense to be like "yeah, shes my friend from a while ago, i watched her kids, my kid was in her wedding...but we wouldn't talk about her brothers work, that's inappropriate." I might believe her more then, or at least see that they need to show she talked about the case. My wondering is why did prosecution bring Chris and Julie to testify? Well, maybe Julie cuz she was on the scene in the morning so thats why she and Chris ended up there when Lanke talked to them (still dont understand why, they werent at the house that night). But why not make defense call them up instead of opening them up to cross examine? and questions about Colin? I did not think a thing about Colin until Chris gave those super fast nos...now i want to know more and am fine tuned to any info about Colin. Did they call Chris cuz they think defense will call Colin so they were trying to say their part first? i dont think it worked. Defense calling Colin might have made it seem like they are beating up on a person who was 17 at the time just visiting his cousin for birthday. But right now im thinking much different things about Colin and everything is sus.

😂😂 Boston baked beans 😂😂😂. Now I will say, as a New Yorker but like out in farmland suburbs in upstate, I've seen police pull over cars in front of my house, we watch out the windows, but don't go out. I've seen cops called to neighbors houses, or ambulances and firetrucks, we watch, but don't go out. We're just nosey Nellies with nothing to contribute. If police came knocking at our door we would answer. I don't know what I'd do if firetrucks, ambulance, police cruisers, and a wailing woman were outside my house at 6:30 in the morning for a few hours, I might at some point pop out to offer coffee or something if it's the middle of a blizzard. But I can definitely see not wanting to be a nosey busybody or contaminate a crime scene. BUT, if I or my spouse was a police officer and or I knew it was my friend firefighter or paramedic I might pop out to say hey, wow, what's going on, can I do anything to help or do you want me out of the way?? And I keep thinking about the police scanner, like don't the older ppl have those in their house? Or is that tech not used anymore? But if you're out drinking and staying up till 2am then maybe you sleep through lights, although I'm not sure sleeping through Karen's wailing

My best friend once called me in the middle of the day while I was at work. I went somewhere to immediately call her back cause I knew she knew my work schedule. Then I ran to my boss and told them I was leaving early due to a family emergency. My bestie's dad and boyfriend were arguing on her lawn and were close to blows and she was scared. I sped to her house to break up the fight.
There is no fucking way my best friend calls me a 5:55am and me not call her back to make sure she is okay.

I keep thinking about all the testimony about how this local PD doesn't process murder scenes. Do they not process any other crime scenes that don't involve murder? I imagine they deal with robberies and assaults and other things that might require the collection of evidence, including blood/DNA/finger prints, but they have made multiple statements that they didn't know the procedure for collecting evidence. They also said that they didn't have any of the items that you would use to collect evidence at their station. This is making my brain cave in. It also makes me feel that based solely on the mishandling of the evidence there is no case here.

I remember was I was like 5 and my parents car was being stolen by a group of men. My German Shepard Zoe at the time came and woke only me up rather quietly too and got me to follow her to the window in the front room and I sat and watched these men steal my parents car and she was trying to get me to wake my parents but I was like frozen still. One of the men saw me pointed and started to come at me and my dog just sat right in front of me and then his friend another man told him to leave me and they left quickly after with the car. My German Shepard was so quiet with me the whole time it is wild to remember and my parents were shocked she didn’t wake them up and pretty bummed about that because the car was brand new and my dads dream car at the time.
So I guess it all depends on the dog and by the sound of the Alberts German Shepard Chloe, it would have definitely made at least a bit of a fuss having all those strangers on their lawn when she apparently doesn’t do well with strangers.

There is a significant amount of snow remaining after John's body is moved. How? Why?
If John was (1) just in a-presumably warm-car, (2) had a regular body temperature otherwise, (3) had been drinking-causing vasodilation-all evening, and (4) there was only a dusting of snow on the ground at the time he was-allegedly-hit and landed on the front yard, why wasn't there a John-sized grassy spot after his body was moved?

EDB, you had me laughing. I, too, am originally from California. Now living in Clarksville, TN. Here, we did get the hail. Golf ball size. 2 chunks filled the whiskey glass. And yes, the wasps are different. The ones in Cali are straight thugs. They need no reason to attack, they just come at you for no apparent reason. And then their whole nest buddies come to join in. The red ones here are not at all the same. They try to ignore us and have yet to come at us. Even when taking out their nests. But hearing you speak of all that brought back funny wasp trauma memories. Thank you for the continuous laughs!😂

Was any of the first responder people living in that house in the house at accident time? Did they help the bitten woman? Did they see the attack, did they direct the 911 call? Did the Alberts just leave a woman whom their dog bit to her own devices? Are they likely to do that??

I dont think the focus on the play fighting at the bar is to imply it was a real fight. I think they're establishing that people were getting physical even if it was in fun. They're all big guys, it would be really easy for O'Keefe to get knocked down and hit his head even if they were just joking. And I've had a dog that interpreted play fights as aggresion and jumped in. I think it's laying foundation that something happening in the house might not have been hostile, it could have started as an accident.

Fast forward a long time after and so much more came out.
I saw the autopsy photos from a hearing and that was it.

Then names I knew, and on it went.
