Also I forgot to mention! ⬇ If you do want to turn Active Lane Keeping Assist off quicker, it can be found in the 'Quick Access' Menu on MBUX. This is on the Home Screen, press Settings and then Quick Access and then it's only one touch away! 👍🏼
TODAY IS THE DAY! I picked up my EQA 300 from the dealership! When the Mercedes sales representative wanted to take me through the car I politely declined and told him that I had gotten a thorough introduction to the EQA/ EQ series by an English gentleman who happened to be a colleague of his. Thank you for what you're doing, Nick. You lead me through the prolonged wait for my car. Keep doing what you're doing, we appreciate you.
Thanks for all the videos! I do not like Active Lane Keeping Assist. It has scared me many times. 1. When I have to overtake, I use turn signals. But when I drive back, I do not. Then the car brakes and keeps the car in the opposite direction. Terrible when approaching an oncoming car! 2. When I drive on a narrow road and meet another car, I keep to the side. Then the car brakes and keeps the car in the middle of the road. I get scared! I appreciate when it thumps in the steering wheel. It is enough for a safe journey.
@@npoleary It's anything but a safety feature, because if you forget to disable it at the start of a long journey, you then have to spend 30s playing around with the menus to disable it rather than watching the road!
There are times when I feel the need to switch it off temporarily, for example I had to travel to Devon the other day a couple of times and the narrow roads are unpainted, it wanted to course correct a few times, so I just toggled it off. Other times though when it’s active above 40mph like on a motorway, it’s pretty good. Just depends where I’m driving 👍🏼
Totally agree, very scary system. Can't get my head around the safety aspect of it? I think the best way to drive is with your indicator permanently on to override it, how safe would that be?
Just bought my Mercedes E class on 4th of July '22 and all your videos are highly useful Nick. Most of the times I am glued to your videos. And yet a long way to go for me. Keep your good work going.
Good video again Nick. Scared the life out of me when I first got the car, I passed a wall with no pavement, I had gone past a hundred times and it braked and swerved me away from it. It makes you always use the indicators when changing lane which is a good thing though. The red warnings are good if your wheel is near a kerb when parking has saved any scraped wheels too.
I dont want to sound like a wise-ass but ESP isnt used to prevent wheels to spin but to create counter moment around car center of gravity to keep your car in control not to drift. It applies braking to a specific wheel to create a counter moment to balance the car. Thats why you can not drift while ESP is on.
Asked and finally answered. My Question: So the Lane Keep Assist: say there is a diesel coming from the opposite direction, WIDE LOAD, taking up a foot or more in your lane, lights flashing pretty big kind of hard to miss, so you hug the white line and trust during this 'passing by' you each hold steady and true. Would the autocorrect cause an accident? How smart is it to where you decide not to be in control of your own vehicle? Have you tested that? Is it worth a life or someone's limbs just for a chance at beating a manufacturer in a lawsuit? Just how close to the white line you you have to be? Some instances you have to be on a shoulder. Say someone had just bought an outdated APC that is very wide. Is it still a safety feature at this point? Did you hear someone say it was a good idea and you are just repeating it is a good idea? Did you test it? I am more interested in what people know not what they think. I have seen a lot of videos where a lot of people talk about this feature from a number of manufacturers no videos of it ever being using. Yet everyone claims SAFETY FEATURE. Is this true or no. I do know you can have the warnings without having the vehicle take over. That seems ok. Does it follow Asimov's law? It will 'lane keep assist' UNLESS at the risk of endangering or harming a human being? Is this just mercedes or ALL vehicles with Lane Keep Assist?
So all the car will do is check lane markings it does not feature an advanced camera system to detect the variety of different sized objects coming your way. *It is only an assist system.* Having bought a car and used this many times before, I as the driver will have to do something if a lorry with a wide load is coming my way or say an emergency vehicle comes onto my side of the road to overtake their side etc. I will have to: 1) Indicate to temporarily switch it off or 2) Switch it off in settings or 3) Or in a more extreme scenario if I had to avoid something or go over a lane marking with intent, it will not intervene. All this system will do is intervene if I drift over a lane marking without indicating if the system can see it (if the lines are painted correctly, it’s not raining too hard and load of other variables as detailed in the manual). I think as you said it’s very important to know a car’s capabilities regardless of the manufacturer so you know when it will take action and know what it is capable of. Happy to revisit this in a future video if you think it’ll be interesting!
Great vid as always. Your the only channel that does mercedes videos so clearly and current. Love this feature on my car also and never turn it off. Can't see why you would. There needs to be more of them in cars as it forces drivers to actually use their indicator!!
Thanks Nick. I’ve have had my 2019 A class AMG saloon since December but this feature doest not work on my car, it’s set to standard but no warnings or interventions occur when going over a white line. I’ve followed your guidance and seeing the symbol change to green, but nothing. I’ve got a recall coming up soon for updating the power steering management on the system - so I will get them to check it out then while it’s still under warranty. Keep up the great work and I’m learning so much about my new car and features from your channel👍
Another great video Nick, thank you very much. Quick question , does Mercedes have a lane assist feature that actively steers and keep you in lane similarly to Audi's Lane guidance or Kia's Lane follow assist. These two keep you in lane with minimal input from the driver. You do have to touch the wheel every 10 seconds or so though. I tried asking my local Mercedes dealer about this and they were not too sure.
Thank you! 🙏 Yes Mercedes do have this tech, but it is only on the Driving Assistance Package. Annoyingly it is quite rare in the UK but I managed to check this package out and make a video surrounding everything it can do: ua-cam.com/video/m3A8H74vMLQ/v-deo.htmlsi=utE9bGehwTGLNfcv
Hey David, hopefully it doesn’t happen but if you do you can press the button in the roof lining if your car has it. Or if it doesn’t have the button you can call them on the number that’s on your driver’s door. In case you wanted it now, it’s 0080017777777
Great video. Thanks! I bought a GLB with Active Lane Keeping Assist and am greatly disappointed! I was expecting it to keep the car centered between the lines, but I am very disappointed in a car so expensive that does not do what a regular car would do! I hate the car and will probably not buy a Mercedes anymore.
Thank you! No this system does not keep the car between the lines all the time, this is designed to stop someone drifting or accidentally moving over a white line or dashed white line without indicating. Providing conditions are right then it can either jolt the car back into lane to stop someone leaving their space. If a Mercedes has the Driving Assistance Package, this will have a thing called Active Steering Assist, this will “guide” the car within the lane markings which is probably more like what you describe.
Mercedes should have created a shortcut to turn this off at will like I’ve seen on a Kia. When driving on highways being repaved or expanded here in the US, the sensors are tricked by the old lane markings, while I’m intentionally following the new lane lines. My 2022 GLC used the brakes to jolt me back into what it thought was the right lane, in such a rough manner that it almost caused a collision with other cars properly following the temporary lane markers. I can’t be fiddling around with the MBUX Settings menus when driving at 55 mph.
Same thing happened to me in the UK on narrow motorway lanes. I crapped myself in fear that something had gone badly wrong with my new car when I narrowly avoided side impacting the vehicle on my right when my wheels drove over the original road markings causing me to break violently. Horrible device..
Nick thanks for the video now I understand why sometimes it warns you and other times it doesn’t. Suggestion can you do a video on the auto lane change while on cruise control how and when it will work I’m still working out why sometimes it will not do it on a freeway
Hi Nick, would love to see a video on active brake assist or adaptive brake assist. My car does have it however it only appears to brake in emergency situations rather than actively braking when getting closer to a car in front. Would be great to see a video on what the difference is and why some cars have one or the other.
Hey Christian, sadly I’ve thought about it but it’s very tricky to demo it. Active Brake Assist is an emergency system so will only work in emergency situations. It’s designed to prevent a fatal crash. Head to 2 mins 30 sec in this video: ua-cam.com/video/O9PsX8E2JG8/v-deo.html For normal the bit that you’re referring to in traffic with driving and it braking is Active Distance Assist Distronic in this video here: ua-cam.com/video/LEqM2FqUIa8/v-deo.html Hope that helps!
Really well done I was wondering about that myself, if I may ask I have a 2022 Mercedes S580 is my system the same as the one in this video or does it have more capabilities or a different capabilities? Do you have a video that focuses more on my model for this issue? Thank you again for all you do look forward to hearing from you if possible
Hey Truth Always, thank you! Active Lane Keeping Assist would work exactly the same way although yes you do have a slightly multimedia system in your one if it’s a new S-Class 🤓
@@npoleary You know what’s really strange my car supposedly is supposed to be able to stop itself if it feels it’s going to crash into some thing a car a barrier sometimes I’m getting off the highway and my car is heading towards the barrier and the active lane assist disconnects and I feel that if I didn’t turn the wheel myself it would crash, is the car supposed to be able to not crash or turn away from the crash or stop? There is no way for me to test it because I would have to take a chance of letting it crashed into the barrier
Hey Truth Always, the easiest way to explain it as that they are only assistance systems 🤓 they basically always require the driver’s full attention on the road and can assist with certain scenarios. It can’t help in every situation yet but maybe in the future!
Thanks for the video! Informative as always. Say if I change it to sensitive, will is stay there when I next turn the engine on? Or does it default back to standard?
Dreadful device... A week after I bought my AMG last year I was driving on narrow motorway lanes along the M27 when there was a length of roadworks. The lanes were (temporarily) narrowed down and speed restricted to 50mph. Travelling along the centre lane within the speed limit, I passed an HGV driving on the inside lane. In that instance the cats eyes were located in the normal lane widths and my nearside wheel was tracking along them even though the lane lines were blacked out. Suddenly and without warning the car lurched to the right under auto assist almost into the side of a vehicle on my right narrowly avoiding a serious accident, Scared the life out of me. Now every time I get in the car it gets turned off..
Sadly I got rid of the A45S+ last summer as I really didn't like the lane discipline . Had such a near miss in 2022 when in a centre 50mph motorway lane (reduced width) when the wheels ran over the blacked out cats eyes whilst paralllel to a 30 tonner on the inside lane. The car veered sharply maybe only for a split second , but it was enough to shake you up.. . No thanks .That was first time it happened and at first I thought I had a puncture/blow-out as it was getting dark. I pulled over on the next available (safe) hard shoulder ta mile further on to check. Next day I discussed it with Mercedes but in UK they can't /wont disable it, though they admit to getting many complainants every single week about the same problem. I wish Mercedes would listen... In certain situations, it is far more dangerous than the protection it offers in claiming to keep you in lane. No thanks.
ssssshhh. You're not supposed to say things like this. It's a safety device that Mercedes have installed especially to help drivers who can't drive. It doesn't matter that you were forced towards a vehicle in another lane, this system is designed to keep you safe. Sorry for being so facetious, but this system is really dangerous, and instances like yours are all to common. But we have to put up with all this crap, because Mercedes say so!
@4:40 It's a 2 minus 1 road, which is meant to prioritise pedestrians and cyclists. You're supposed to drive in the middle of the road at all times, unless you meet a vehicle driving in the other direction, and then only cross the dotted line if there are no cyclists. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2-1_road
Ah thanks Ole! That is the first time I’ve actually read something about this type of road. Everyone who I’ve met always describes that road as confusing 😅 Guess it makes sense, thanks for sharing!
I use it all the time. Can’t live without it. So much more enjoyable drive. Are you able to clarify, in the event I get slightly bogged, do I need to turn the esp off to get out. Happened to me once before , I had a hard time, I think cause it wouldn’t let the wheels spin?
Thank you 👍. One more question please, do you know if there is a way to keep recycled air on? I find it only stays on for a certain amount of time & switches off?My previous model was the same.
Yes that’s right, no there’s no way to keep it on recirculation all the time as the air quality will go down significantly after a period of time on the inside. So to keep at sufficient levels it opens again automatically
What happens if you take your hands off the wheel completely? Will the car come to a standstill? I believe this happens when Distronic is ON. But what happens if only the Active Lane Keeping Assist is switched on and you take your hands off the steering wheel?
Great review as always. I think the MB in the newer models like C class has changed the "jolt" system -which for me is unacceptable- and has replaced with a system similar to VW that just steers the car back to lane. I wish my new E450 had this new system similar to my VW T-Roc...
@@JohnTzezanas I agree that especially at roadworks where you may be going 50mph and are directed into a diffetent lane or contraflow when indicating isn't an option could be dangerous as mentioned in other comments, thankfully I have never experienced that myself.... yet! I will be more aware the next time I come to that situation, just in case.
There will be instances where this technology is useful...drivng at night on a long motorway journey for example, but for me I do not like it and always routinely turn it off everytime I start my car along with the Start/Stop. The latter can be infuriating in the way it works when combined with an automatic gearbox. I found out the hard way with LKA because there is a left turn filter lane when approaching a roundabout on a 70mph dual carriageway that I drive regularly. Often it will be at night with no other vehicles around (pedestrians are not permitted) so no need to indicate and I gently let my car drift into this filter lane while doing approx 50mph, but I am given a violent fright by my car braking one side and wonder what the hell has just happened! By the way watching it in the above video does not prepare you for how violent this actually is. After that I made the decision to always disable this LKA.
Exactly what I do everytime. I have a laminated card that I leave in the front storage box where the gearshift would normally be to remind to switch it off everytime. What a pathetic system, and as for start/stop, it really cannot be doing the engine any good to keep cutting in and out like this?
Brake lights would only typically come on if your speed is reduced significantly. As they’re dab on one side only for a split second, I doubt they’ll show to be honest.
Hey man, thank you for all these fantastic helpfull videos, so I just bought my GLE-450 fully freakin Loaded, but it keeps showing the Front Collision prevention and Active lane keeping assist Currently unavailable, the car Is super clean and its not a rainy or snowy day, can you please help me? and even on the Highways when I let the car drift over the White lines, the car doesn't do anything
Oh how strange, I would defo get in touch with Mercedes to see what they say… There are a few settings on the car but it should always start with them both enabled unless there’s an issue somewhere… Glad you love the videos!
Good evening, Im thinking to buy EQB 250+ , but I have seen on Euroncap test safety, that on the safety assist section is rated 74%, a bit low comparing others cars which I am interested. Its low rated on the lane support. I have seen its tested on 2019 EQB version, will this year version has improved on that? For when latest version tested on Euroncap? Can’t wait too long for buy a new EV CAR! Thanks very much👍have a nice week
Hey Ricard, ooo very nice! Well don’t forget it depends on what was fitted to the car at the time of testing. Mercedes often have a package called the Driving Assistance Package (sadly not available on all models) but this package adds a whole host of safety features. Euroncap will always be improving their safety scores to keep up with what manufacturers offer. Have you seen my video on lane assist? ua-cam.com/video/l-5mCvip7pM/v-deo.html Models in Mercedes usually get upgrades every 6-7 years with facelifts halfway in between 🤓
I just bought a 2024 e class for $75k and I don’t see the active lane keep assist feature in my car. Is it something I need to take to the dealership to install ?
When I reviewed the E-Class recently it had Lane Keeping Assist so I assume that they all have them here. But specs vary round the world, I see that you wrote the price in dollars so it might be best to speak to someone who works at Mercedes to check for you where you’re based. Naturally I assume it would be the same everywhere but it could be an EU thing where every car has it here so it might be different in other countries.
Same here, wouldn’t recommend it for city driving as it is kinda annoying, but it is recommended on highways and freeways especially when its a long drive
Hey David, sadly on new cars in the UK with MBUX they will always default to on. If you’re based elsewhere or you have a other multimedia system then this will be slightly different 🤓 But yes you’re absolutely right, something I didn’t mention was the Quick Access menu so I added it to the pinned comments beneath the video 🤓
I'm sorry to tell, but you actually CAN turn your lane keep assist off permanently. I drive an A250 2021 and in Canada our roads are crap so I have to constantly go in and out lane to avoid pot holes I turned it off no problem
Hey Boris, Hazzrad beat me to it! Regulations vary massively round the world depending on the country that the car was made for. Here in the UK, on modern Mercedes it’ll auto re-enable when you turn it off and get back in
@@npoleary I guess you're right. I saw a lot of people showing Mercedes can show tire pressure in real time, all I can see in mine is that the pressure is ok but not a numerical value.
Oh really? Interesting to know! 🤓 Didn’t realise that was different as well, come to think of it, I’m pretty sure that was the same when I rented one in America too
Various reasons, could be your speed being too it low or too high, the sun could be glaring right into the camera lens, or the road markings aren’t clear for the system to see it. Basically grey is off and green is on and active
I hope to revisit this soon so it’ll be another video in the future! 👍🏼 If you’re already driving it across lane markings though and not drifting from your lane because you’re already over the old lines, it shouldn’t do anything
Don't quite understand the difference between solid line and dashed line. In the US we have freeways and streets with multiple lanes separated by dashed lines .... Was expecting the system to "actively" keeping me in lane with break action no matter what line I drift across .... Am I understanding your description correctly ? only get a vibration on dashed line ?
It depends, it will probably be set up differently in the US. In the UK: Dashed White Line: vibrating from steering wheel Solid White Line: Braking one side to jolt you back into lane (most commonly when a car is coming the other way) There are certain speeds when this is not active and will not operate every single time due to the lines painted on the road and weather conditions etc
It depends on the model, there are a lot of Mercedes models with varying different multimedia systems which control this so it might be best if you chat with a dealer and they can let you know exactly what yours will do in that situation. Some Mercedes now I’ve noticed you can adjust even more settings with it’s sensitivity. Also depends if it has “Active Lane Keeping Assist” or “Lane Keeping Assist” too!
Is this GLA the most dangerous car to drive? This lane assist feature made my heart miss a beat. Whilst overtaking a lorry travelling around 45mph, I went to overtake at around 70mph. The car steering suddenly tightened up and tried to pull back into the lane, not something that seems safe when you are heading back into the lane where the HGV is travelling slower than me. It's happened a few times when I have forgotten to switch it off. So annoying that it can't be switched off permanently. Had 3 GLC's previous and none of them had this stupid system. I suppose the hairbrains at MB will introduce it to all models in time!
Ah so that would happen if indicators weren’t used when venturing over a lane marking at speed. I’ve tested it a few times prior to making this video to see when it would activate 👍🏼 I don’t believe it’s Mercedes forcing it upon people, it’s safety regulations. I cover not just Mercedes but a few manufacturers across my channel and most new cars have it these days.
@@npoleary Thanks Nick for your reply. I'm afraid I don't share your view on this. If it was completely about safety, then I don't think you would have the option to turn it off at all. The fact that you can disable it, but annoying as it is not permanently, suggests to me it's another gimmick. I do however think I may have found a solution. Today I put some gorilla tape over the camera on the windscreen, and what do you know, with this gimmick still enabled it did not work, yippee! My next attempt will be to remove the tape as it will not last long with the wipers working, and chemically clean the screen around the camera and then fill in the area of the lens with an indelible black marker pen. This will hopefully block the camera from seeing the lines on the road as the tape did and will stop this gimmick from working. I know the camera has other functions that will not work, but my view is if you are a competent driver you should not need to rely on all this rubbish. Unfortunately I am stuck with this GLA for the next 12 months, so anything I can do to prevent all this rubbish from working, is a massive bonus to me
Trust me there are more regulations out there than people realise! Some get in the way, some can helpful eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/PDF/?uri=CELEX:32021R0646&from=EN Just did a quick search to find some legislation, I’m sure they’ll be more documentation on it. The most recent ones I’ve seen have a car’s camera system read traffic signs but have the car “beep” & “bong” if you go over the speed limit.
@@npoleary Thanks Nick, It seems like a game now to me. Manufacturers give you this stuff (legislation or not) and we spend time trying to circumvent it. The most annoying thing to me is you spend a lot of money on these cars, but you are never the one in control. Fair enough they put all this rubbish on their cars, but at least give the person spending the money the choice. Enabled or disabled, your choice, not their's to keep turning it back on everytime you start the car. Everyone is different, and the manufacturers should cater for all, especially with something as simple as on or off. Can't still get my head round swapping the GLC for this thing, need to go and checked for sanity I think.
Hey nick, i have a question I just bought a cla 250 but it doesnt have park assist. Is it possible to add park assist to an already bought mercedes benz?
Sadly no Park Assist hasn’t been available for the past few years, it was removed on virtually all cars in 2020. This was because of a United Nations Regulation that in a nutshell requires people to keep their hands on a wheel via hands on / hands off sensors. This does vary massively round the world though, cars made prior to this are unaffected but anything made after it, it might not have it.
Hey Nick, I'm not convinced mine is calibrated correctly got the car 4 days a go and can't get it to do anything with simulated drifting etc. Does it take a while to familiarise itself with the driver?
Hey Jeff, not all cars have Active Lane Keeping Assist but if you’re sure you have it there’s usually a setting in the settings menu under Assistance where you can tweak it. What model do you have? And what year?
@@npoleary thanks, I have EQA 250. The windscreen was replaced during the delivery so I am suspicious that it’s not quite right. I have tried both sensitive and standard but still no response.
Hey Nick. I'm in a similar boat. I have felt the steering wheel rumble and jolt however only 3 times in nearly a month of using this car. I have drifted gently from lane to lane, replicating an unintentional motion as I saw a Mercedes Genius in showroom who said the system doesn't respond if it senses an intentional lane cross. I had it on standard but for past 2 weeks on sensitive. I'm concerned it's not working properly.
It’ll do it more so on the type of lane marking and if there are any cars coming from the opposite side of the road. Sold lane markings on sensitive and it’ll do it almost every time 🤓
Hi Nick, I am seeing these days that Mercedes GLE 2021 needs all the time soft reset for the sound from MBUX. Pressing both ‘star’ and ‘tel’ buttons together for few seconds, makes the reset of mbux system. Not sure what could be the root cause. Any clue?
I haven’t heard of MBUX needing a reset because of the sound…what’s it doing? If it doesn’t sound right, I’d get in touch with your local Mercedes dealership who will be able to take a look. Also I haven’t heard of a reset from Star & Tel before…does that turn it off and back on or something?
@@npoleary Yes, it was a bit annoying, both the Apple car play and radio stopped working. No sound.. nothing. You were my only hope as a Mercedes expert, so I did a quick scan under your channel to check if there was any mention of this issue or any troubleshooting steps. I couldn't find any video there. Finally, I did some looking over the internet and found many people were suggesting the 'soft re-set in this situation as a fix. I tried pressing both the start and tel button together and it switched off half of the screen and then it reinitialized with the 'MERCEDES BENZ' written over the screen after 2 or 3 seconds. ua-cam.com/video/_0NG8DZ6EgM/v-deo.html .. this site I looked for this help.
Sport+ is the only mode that you’re allowed to use on public roads where as Race Mode is only allowed on tracks. It basically optimises everything from suspension to engine, to gears and sets all systems for maximum sportiness. ESP has varying settings depending on the car, keeping it oversimplified ESP is always on on other modes but there are certain settings particularly in Race where it is virtually off with options for being completely off also known as “Master” in AMG Dynamics.
Can’t remember off the top of my head which ones which but when you select Dynamic Select it’ll usually change the Dynamics in the menu on screen. It’ll usually say something along the lines of Basic, Advanced, Pro and Master. Master is basically off with the others with slightly less ESP etc
Can you do a video solely on distronic about its limits etc. I know you added it to the driver assistance package video. Asking because I had a retro fit done for it and it seems like it won’t kick in when traffic is at a complete stop and you’re doing like 60 mph
I would like to do another video on Driving Assistance Package in the future somewhen for sure! I’ll add it to the list, however you had it retrofitted? I didn’t think that was possible
@@npoleary yep it is. Most cars already have everything they need for distronic pro. It’s just a matter of swapping radar sensor behind Star, changing buttons on steering wheel and reprogramming the car. You would think dealers would offer this as a service to make more money
@@npoleary well since I'm from the US I installed the parts myself vs having a body shop do it for me but parts and coding programming was done by rjautomotive
Ah interesting, it’s not something I believe Mercedes dealerships offer. Being official dealerships, they have to sell the cars as they’re described and don’t make modifications once they’re built. Interesting to hear that you managed it though!
I highly doubt it I’m afraid Car dealers across all the brands I cover do not retrofit things to cars. It’s normally only sold on the cars from new. Plus it varies around the world quite a lot so depends where you live as to when it will have been introduced.
Oh I wouldn’t know sorry :( Spec varies massively round the world so best to double check with your local Mercedes to be 100% sure You can check in the car by going in settings menu on your centre screen and then go to the Assistance section. If you have it, it’ll be listed in there 👍🏼
Dear nick, I’m still enjoying my A35 and just recently visited my local Mercedes dealership to add myself to the Mercedes me app. I’m sure this problem is staring me in the face but I cannot seem to lock or shut my windows remotely from my phone. I purposely left the windows open and the vehicle just to see if I could lock it from my mobile phone, on the Mercedes me app I do get a Highlighted area of the doors and windows in red telling me they are open but I can’t seem to find where to lock from this app. As stated I do get the warnings on the areas on the car in red but I’m lost on how to lock from that point. Kind regards paul
Hey Paul, had you bought it from your local Mercedes? If not, no problem but they just need to verify it with your V5 document as proof of ownership 🤓 This will then give you full access 👍🏼
@@npoleary thank you nick for that advice, I did recently visit a local main dealership with my V5 document as I’m the new owner of the car and just importantly asked the dealership to cancel the account of the last owner of the car which I believe has been done. I was asked to download the Mercedes app when I got home which I now have but still don’t know if I can lock or open windows ect ect on the vehicle. Naturally the app shows me a lot of information about the car but when I want to close windows lock or unlock I can’t do it from my phone, and I’m sure there are a lot of other things you can do from your phone without having to pay extra for, although I’m aware there is a premium cost for certain things for the vehicle. I think I will make another visit to Mercedes to see if they can advise me. Thank you nick
Dear nick, I just wanted to say it was really nice talking to you the other day concerning the Mercedes me app and my difficulties. My Mercedes app is working and it’s thanks to you nick ! My best regards to you as always Take care ………..
My C300 2022 model will actually steer itself. Do u know what this feature is called. No hands stays in the middle of any lane & will slow down to go around bends. Reason why I’m asking is the head unit has blown up. & it will take around 6 weeks to get new part😡. I want a replacement car that has that feature . No one seems to know what that feature is called. I’m thinking lane keeping v lane keeping assist💁
DSR is normally Downhill Speed Regulator used normally when going down a very steep slope. This feature has been showcased once on my channel in a Volkswagen (that was a car that had it and most importantly where I could take it off road! 😅) This video here and time 12min 54sec: ua-cam.com/video/v24SAA3tegs/v-deo.htmlsi=oXnEO5d1-axd5mFa Basically it’s like a cruise control but walking speed for off-roading as you might not be able to see over the top of the mound or hill
How to turn off it forever?! It s very dangerous to keep it on in Turkey. Each time I seat in car it on again. How to turn off it completely, please help🙏
Hi Ken, sadly no as I mentioned in the video toward the end it is classed as a safety system and falls into the same category as Active Brake Assist, Parking Sensors and ESP. These will all default to on when you turn the car back on.
@boigoe ah so lane keeping assist as standard came out in the uk when Mercedes introduced the new multimedia system called MBUX. Before that you would have needed I think the Driving Assistance Package.
Just depends on the specification, I’ve reviewed a few Mercedes and produced a lot of videos but sadly not much prior to 2020 as that’s when I started my channel. So not too sure 100% on stuff before that.
Sounds to me like a job for an aftermarket code reader type device to be able to plug in and permanently disable all this crap. There must be some companies out there specialising in diagnostics that have the tools to disable all this bo**ocks once and for all. Mercedes won't help, they're the ones telling you to use it, sorry forcing you to use it.
I hate it. Lost count of times that it has suddenly braked and dragged the car to one side because it has been fooled by old, painted over road markings. Far too sensitive
This thing is fine on motorway or highway driving, but to and from work and quick trip to the shops I find it annoying to have it in the background, I dont need this on my 10min drive to work and 10min to the shops, I really hate that this thing is default on every damn time you turn the ignition off and on again, why??!!!?? I get its a safety feature, but good god, just let us turn it off completly, im not a pro racing driver, but come on, really, luckily my current car, a 2019 Focus have this, but its not on default or else I would probably return it or force them to tweak the software or find a way on my own somehow. My Focus even have a dedicated button for it on the blinker handle, why not have the same here of some kind? Sometimes I wish I could be in on one of these design meetings and meetings in general in the car industry, but I guess car makers are like game makers, they dont drive their own cars, like game makers doesnt play their own game to feel how wonky it is. Safety features are good, but sometimes abit over the top in every day life.
ALKS is so dangerous, and here in the EU you can't even turn it off permanently, thanks to Euro NCAP. In a drive that lasted a little over an hour, I've had it both almost push me off the road into a ditch, as well as almost hit a cyclist. And yes, I was paying full attention, it just jerks the wheel sometimes. Extremely annoying.
It can be switched off per session but yes there’s a lot of systems these days which default to on due to regulations. Probably a video for another day! 😅
This is also found in a lot of cars that are quite a bit cheaper than Mercedes, so it's not like its somekind of luxury. Isn't there also an EU law on the way to make it mandatory in all new cars along with sign recognition?
Yes that’s right 🤓 Lane Assist systems are becoming pretty common now in modern cars. I read online from varied sources that speed limiters were coming into affect for the EU but not for the UK as of yet but haven’t seen anything regarding sign recognition.
Fuck me, if you need lane assist, you should not be driving. I wonder what the hell my sons driving lessons will be like in 15 years time, will he even need to turn up to them? or will the car just write him an email after its done with the test to tell him it passed. Its just stupid now
Soon enough, no one will be driving full size cars. It won’t be permitted. You won’t be able to get insurance. Much as we complain even now about the mistakes of automated systems, they will net saved lives and property. Humans are terrible drivers. I hope I’m around long enough to see the 20-somethings have to sit back and no long weave in and out of urban traffic at 70 mph.
@@pdmeunier 70mph, where are you from that they drive so slow? lol Nah I used to live where 70 was the limit, now im used to seeing people doing on average between 90 and 130 in normal traffic days on my way to work. I guess you are right but bloody hell, things change so fast, i dunno if ill be around to see 20 somethings no longer having to weave in and out, but with the way things are going, just maybe!
Hey Paulo, this isn’t a new thing in Mercedes, Mercedes have had Driving Assistance systems like Adaptive Cruise called Distronic since 1998 🤓 Quite an interesting read! group-media.mercedes-benz.com/marsMediaSite/en/instance/ko/DISTRONIC-The-car-learns-to-see.xhtml?oid=41510718
BRO good video but u have no idea what a mercedes can do Have u ever driven a mercedes at 170mph and curving through bumps in autopilot for 2 hours? if lane assist is ur best shot at mercedes
Also I forgot to mention! ⬇
If you do want to turn Active Lane Keeping Assist off quicker, it can be found in the 'Quick Access' Menu on MBUX. This is on the Home Screen, press Settings and then Quick Access and then it's only one touch away! 👍🏼
can you deactivate permanently ??
TODAY IS THE DAY!
I picked up my EQA 300 from the dealership! When the Mercedes sales representative wanted to take me through the car I politely declined and told him that I had gotten a thorough introduction to the EQA/ EQ series by an English gentleman who happened to be a colleague of his. Thank you for what you're doing, Nick. You lead me through the prolonged wait for my car. Keep doing what you're doing, we appreciate you.
Thanks Sailstone! Ooo an EQA 300 very nice!
Glad you’re loving all of the videos! And thank you so much for your kind words!
It made me also in Turkey many troubles on the road and scared and almost got accident on road(( how to turn off it permanently?
Hey Buldojik, just replied on a previous comment, sadly it’s a safety system so there’s no way to turn it off permanently.
Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying the videos! 🤓🙏
Never felt the steering wheel wobble as a warning, but I can definitely concur that the 'jolt' is severe and quite scary.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks Stuart! 🤓🙏
My Question:
So the Lane Keep Assist: say there is a diesel coming from the opposite direction, WIDE LOAD, taking up a foot or more in your lane, lights flashing pretty big kind of hard to miss, so you hug the white line and trust during this 'passing by' you each hold steady and true.
*It is only an assist system.*
Having bought a car and used this many times before, I as the driver will have to do something if a lorry with a wide load is coming my way or say an emergency vehicle comes onto my side of the road to overtake their side etc. I will have to:
1) Indicate to temporarily switch it off
or
2) Switch it off in settings
or
3) Or in a more extreme scenario if I had to avoid something or go over a lane marking with intent, it will not intervene.
Thanks Loui d! Glad you love the videos! 🤓
Awh thank you! Yeah ask them to check it out while it’s in. I’m sure they’ll be able to sort it!
Great video as always Nick
Thank you! 🙏🤓
Thankyou for explaining DEEPLY !!!!
No worries! 🤓🙏
I love it on the motorway when Distronic + is turned on.
Thank you! 🙏
Yes Mercedes do have this tech, but it is only on the Driving Assistance Package. Annoyingly it is quite rare in the UK but I managed to check this package out and make a video surrounding everything it can do: ua-cam.com/video/m3A8H74vMLQ/v-deo.htmlsi=utE9bGehwTGLNfcv
Thanks for another great video Nick - very well explained and demonstrated 👌
Thank you Mark! 🤓
Glad you’re loving the videos!
Hi nick any chance of doing a section on what to do when you breakdown its everybody's worst nightmare.cheers.👍
Hey David, hopefully it doesn’t happen but if you do you can press the button in the roof lining if your car has it. Or if it doesn’t have the button you can call them on the number that’s on your driver’s door.
In case you wanted it now, it’s 0080017777777
The jolt feature is absolute petrifying
Great informative post.
Keep up the great work
Thanks Joe! 🤓🙏
Great explaining
Thank you! 🙏
Thanks for this video Nick 👌🏿👌🏿
No worries! 🤓
Thanks John! Sadly that’s not on cars in the UK anymore.
Think some cars still have it (produced before 2020) but I haven’t seen it for a long time
Interesting as it’s on my 2021 gla in aus
Hi Nick, would love to see a video on active brake assist or adaptive brake assist. My car does have it however it only appears to brake in emergency situations rather than actively braking when getting closer to a car in front. Would be great to see a video on what the difference is and why some cars have one or the other.
Hey Christian, sadly I’ve thought about it but it’s very tricky to demo it. Active Brake Assist is an emergency system so will only work in emergency situations. It’s designed to prevent a fatal crash.
Head to 2 mins 30 sec in this video: ua-cam.com/video/O9PsX8E2JG8/v-deo.html
For normal the bit that you’re referring to in traffic with driving and it braking is Active Distance Assist Distronic in this video here: ua-cam.com/video/LEqM2FqUIa8/v-deo.html
Hope that helps!
Aah so that’s what it’s doing. I understood it to be a form of lane assistance but didn’t notice or realise the 30mph connection. 👍🏼
Hi Nick, another great video thanks 🙏
Thanks Jag! 🤓🙏
Another great video nic .
Thanks James! 🙏🤓
Thanks for the video! Informative as always. Say if I change it to sensitive, will is stay there when I next turn the engine on? Or does it default back to standard?
I think it does 🤓
Can’t remember what it did when I had an A-Class myself some time ago.
Think it’s just the on/off that resets when you turn it off
Thankyou 👍👍👍👍❤️
Great informative video.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Maybe hold the steering wheel next time. It has like zero power for auto turning, can be counteracted with miniscule resistance.
No thanks.
Sorry to hear all the bad experiences above...sounds more like a bad driving behavior. Hold the steering wheel firm to be safe. 😢
Always one moany git
Thank you needed to understand that
No worries Ken! 🤓
Everyone who I’ve met always describes that road as confusing 😅
Guess it makes sense, thanks for sharing!
I use it all the time. Can’t live without it. So much more enjoyable drive. Are you able to clarify, in the event I get slightly bogged, do I need to turn the esp off to get out. Happened to me once before , I had a hard time, I think cause it wouldn’t let the wheels spin?
Yes if you ever want the wheels to spin then you can temporarily turn of traction control (or ESP)
Yes if you ever want the wheels to spin then you can temporarily turn of traction control (or ESP)
I have a dedicated button to turn LKA on/off on my E53. It doesn't default to on, it remembers previous setting. Cheers
Just new ones now that default to on 🤓
COMAND multimedia systems typically don’t but MBUX multimedia systems do 👍🏼
Great review as always. I think the MB in the newer models like C class has changed the "jolt" system -which for me is unacceptable- and has replaced with a system similar to VW that just steers the car back to lane. I wish my new E450 had this new system similar to my VW T-Roc...
I would have thought the jolt is intentional as you are more likely to be drifting into another lane if tired and needing a break.
@@TequilaDave maybe but at times it is very scary and possibly dangerous. Very disappointed with this.... Hopefully, they made it right by now..
Deeply irritating feature because you aren’t able to permanently disable it. Mine picks up things other than white lines like some tar lines.
Helpful
0:09 Did I miss the explanation for this symbol?
Don’t Merc already have self turning steering wheel like threee years ago? Did they not continue coming with that feature
Hi nick, just wondering will the car still brake/jolt when put in the standard setting?
In can do in certain scenarios (if there are cars coming toward you etc)
If the system brakes to move me back into the lane, will the brake lights illuminate?
Brake lights would only typically come on if your speed is reduced significantly. As they’re dab on one side only for a split second, I doubt they’ll show to be honest.
Hey man, thank you for all these fantastic helpfull videos, so I just bought my GLE-450 fully freakin Loaded, but it keeps showing the Front Collision prevention and Active lane keeping assist Currently unavailable, the car Is super clean and its not a rainy or snowy day, can you please help me? and even on the Highways when I let the car drift over the White lines, the car doesn't do anything
Oh how strange, I would defo get in touch with Mercedes to see what they say…
There are a few settings on the car but it should always start with them both enabled unless there’s an issue somewhere…
Glad you love the videos!
Disabling this 'safety' feature is part of my departure routine. It's just downright dangerous on the roads where I live. It's not Autobahn-only here.
Good evening,
Im thinking to buy EQB 250+ , but I have seen on Euroncap test safety, that on the safety assist section is rated 74%, a bit low comparing others cars which I am interested.
Have you seen my video on lane assist?
ua-cam.com/video/l-5mCvip7pM/v-deo.html
Models in Mercedes usually get upgrades every 6-7 years with facelifts halfway in between 🤓
I just bought a 2024 e class for $75k and I don’t see the active lane keep assist feature in my car.
Is active lane keeping assist standard in the 2021 Mercedes GLE 350 ?
I believe so! 🤓
It’s a pretty cool safety feature 👍🏼
LKA can be turned off permanently. It is in settings and quick settings. I keep it off all the time for city driving and turn it on fire long trips
Same here, wouldn’t recommend it for city driving as it is kinda annoying, but it is recommended on highways and freeways especially when its a long drive
Hey David, sadly on new cars in the UK with MBUX they will always default to on. If you’re based elsewhere or you have a other multimedia system then this will be slightly different 🤓
But yes you’re absolutely right, something I didn’t mention was the Quick Access menu so I added it to the pinned comments beneath the video 🤓
@@DasarityanAmorghSasitharan35 So do I.
I'm sorry to tell, but you actually CAN turn your lane keep assist off permanently. I drive an A250 2021 and in Canada our roads are crap so I have to constantly go in and out lane to avoid pot holes I turned it off no problem
I get the feeling that with EU spec vehicles you can't turn it off permanently whereas in US and Canada legislation is different, so you can/
Hey Boris, Hazzrad beat me to it!
Didn’t realise that was different as well, come to think of it, I’m pretty sure that was the same when I rented one in America too
How u did it off permanently?
Why is the indicator icon green sometimes and grey at others? Could you explain the resons ofr that?
Various reasons, could be your speed being too it low or too high, the sun could be glaring right into the camera lens, or the road markings aren’t clear for the system to see it.
Basically grey is off and green is on and active
Can you deactivate Lane assist permanently? I have a few spots on the freeway that i drive daily where it shudders & I find it unsafe
No sadly not, as I mentioned in the video it has to be disabled per driving session.
What about when is road under costruction and there are new yellow lines on the road next to white ones...how the car react than?
I hope to revisit this soon so it’ll be another video in the future! 👍🏼
If you’re already driving it across lane markings though and not drifting from your lane because you’re already over the old lines, it shouldn’t do anything
@@npoleary I did not try jet. But I am affraid to try it because I do not know how will car react in this situation.
In the UK:
Dashed White Line: vibrating from steering wheel
Solid White Line: Braking one side to jolt you back into lane (most commonly when a car is coming the other way)
There are certain speeds when this is not active and will not operate every single time due to the lines painted on the road and weather conditions etc
@@npoleary I've not noticed anything from dashed lines in mine (UK). My Grandland would steer away from any of the lines.
I’ve tested it a few times prior to making this video to see when it would activate 👍🏼
I don’t believe it’s Mercedes forcing it upon people, it’s safety regulations.
Some get in the way, some can helpful
eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/PDF/?uri=CELEX:32021R0646&from=EN
Just did a quick search to find some legislation, I’m sure they’ll be more documentation on it.
👍
Hey nick, i have a question
I just bought a cla 250 but it doesnt have park assist.
Unfortunately it seems to have returned on the latest GLA!
Yes modern cars have this tech again now which is good to see!
Above 40mph? 🤓
Thank you! 🤓
I’ll check it out 👍🏼
hi nick ... could you explain the difference between sport+ en the race mode with esp sport handling mode .... especially the esp ? with a 4matic+
@@npoleary thanks, but how far is the esp still active in race mode ..... lets say with a e63s 2020
Who retrofitted it? I’ve heard dealers aren’t allowed to in the UK
Interesting to hear that you managed it though!
can this be added aftermarket on e300de 2021?
I highly doubt it I’m afraid
Car dealers across all the brands I cover do not retrofit things to cars. It’s normally only sold on the cars from new.
Plus it varies around the world quite a lot so depends where you live as to when it will have been introduced.
Hi Nick
Is there Lane keeping assistent in E200 2019??
Oh I wouldn’t know sorry :(
Spec varies massively round the world so best to double check with your local Mercedes to be 100% sure
You can check in the car by going in settings menu on your centre screen and then go to the Assistance section. If you have it, it’ll be listed in there 👍🏼
@@npoleary thanks😊
If not, no problem but they just need to verify it with your V5 document as proof of ownership 🤓
This will then give you full access 👍🏼
My best regards to you as always
Take care ………..
Ah awesome thanks Paul! No problem! And glad it’s working now 🤓
My C300 2022 model will actually steer itself.
I think in Mercedes it’s called Active Steering Assist 🤓
Hope they manage to sort it for you!
Can you please explain DSR
DSR is normally Downhill Speed Regulator used normally when going down a very steep slope. This feature has been showcased once on my channel in a Volkswagen (that was a car that had it and most importantly where I could take it off road! 😅)
This video here and time 12min 54sec: ua-cam.com/video/v24SAA3tegs/v-deo.htmlsi=oXnEO5d1-axd5mFa
Basically it’s like a cruise control but walking speed for off-roading as you might not be able to see over the top of the mound or hill
How to turn off it forever?! It s very dangerous to keep it on in Turkey. Each time I seat in car it on again. How to turn off it completely, please help🙏
Hey Buldojik, you can turn it off temporarily but not permanently as it’s a safety system.
so annoying on my car ,,,,,,,can you permanently disable ?? i know you can disable for each journey however a pain to have to do for each occasion
Hi Ken, sadly no as I mentioned in the video toward the end it is classed as a safety system and falls into the same category as Active Brake Assist, Parking Sensors and ESP. These will all default to on when you turn the car back on.
@@npoleary Thanks Nick its a real pain to have to tuner off each time
Don’t you use it? Quite a few cars have it as standard these days and it turns off when you indicate to change lane 🤓
How do u turn this on, on an E class w213 70reg night edition
If it has it, it will be on as standard
Does your car have a touchscreen or is it just controlled on the scroll wheel?
@npoleary both digital screens are not touch...bit the car is a 70 plate e220d night edition premium plus
@boigoe ah so lane keeping assist as standard came out in the uk when Mercedes introduced the new multimedia system called MBUX.
Before that you would have needed I think the Driving Assistance Package.
@@npoleary ok...as my mates e220d SE 16reg has it
Just depends on the specification, I’ve reviewed a few Mercedes and produced a lot of videos but sadly not much prior to 2020 as that’s when I started my channel. So not too sure 100% on stuff before that.
I could have told you the same in less than 5 minutes
It’s an unsafe pain that can’t be disabled on my Sprinter.
Actually MERCEDES should include your videos in manuals how to booklets or help menu's NICK O'LEARY EDITION
Haha 😅 thanks Satveer! 🙏🙏
Everyday I have new shock because of tones of sensors in car 😪😭
I was scared first 3-4 times then figured it out and turned off from mbux on GLE450
How to turn off it forever? , each time I start the car it on again (((
Hey Buldojik, sadly you can’t as it’s a safety system. You can turn it off per driving session though
Canadian vehicles have feature to turn it off until you turn back on
This is also found in a lot of cars that are quite a bit cheaper than Mercedes, so it's not like its somekind of luxury. Isn't there also an EU law on the way to make it mandatory in all new cars along with sign recognition?
Yes that’s right 🤓
Lane Assist systems are becoming pretty common now in modern cars.
I read online from varied sources that speed limiters were coming into affect for the EU but not for the UK as of yet but haven’t seen anything regarding sign recognition.
It may have sense hdd we vehicles passing
I had no idea how bad the infotainment systems looked in lower model Mercedes’
It seems as if Mercedes are years behind even Volvo. Volvo has level 2 autonomous driving since 2015.
Hey Paulo, this isn’t a new thing in Mercedes, Mercedes have had Driving Assistance systems like Adaptive Cruise called Distronic since 1998 🤓
Quite an interesting read!
group-media.mercedes-benz.com/marsMediaSite/en/instance/ko/DISTRONIC-The-car-learns-to-see.xhtml?oid=41510718
I hate it and it will probably effect my car choice when I come to renew
Worst system ever! Very dangerous active braking
Awful and dangerous system
Spend every drive turning this dam 'woke' device off..
I was taught to drive - I don't need cars interfering on my decisions.
BRO good video but u have no idea what a mercedes can do
Have u ever driven a mercedes at 170mph and curving through bumps in autopilot for 2 hours?
if lane assist is ur best shot at mercedes
This is always switched off in my car. Awful system
It can be quite useful! But yes there are certain times I will turn it off
