Whoever in the Johnny Carson team chose this performance by Tony Bennett truly has good eyes, ears and senses. He singing that invariably sad “Here’s That Rainy Day” in the presence of his contemporary Johnny who loved that song - that really hits home. Nat King Cole is another of my all-time favorite singers, & that little duet with Tony was superb. I just read the next post & I'm crying as I write this. I can't believe it; Tony Bennett is gone. It's the end of an era that will never come again. Anthony Dominick Benedetto, thank you for making my life so much richer & fuller because of your vocals. So long, Tony. You lived an amazing life. One of the GOATs in Music. You helped shape modern-day music. You are and will always remain an incredible talent and legend.
I could have watched another hour or more of this clip. This was the gold standard of entertainment, now gone. We still have great artists, who can do this music, but they are not in the forefront, except someone like Buble. I saw Tony Bennett perform in my hometown 10 years ago - he was 87 - and did 20+ songs. He was brilliant and in incredible voice. If he had not become ill, he would still be performing, as he had been until last year. His voice was still there. And his artistry. Thank you, Mr. Bennett, for decades of pure greatness.
Wow, a great Tony Bennet mini-concert that ended with such a lovely, generous tribute to Nat King Cole. what a beautiful moment Tony planned and executed it so superbly...my heart was in my throat...
The texture and nuance in Tony's voice was amazing. His interpretation of a song was completely in line with what the composer envisioned. A classy and original performer who will be missed but rest well, sir! Vale Tony Bennett.

People have said it all below, and are still coming up with new ways to praise and describe Tony Bennett. Deservedly so, he was talented, elegant and classy. He was from a long lost era of performers, who performed, not lip-synched or mailed it in. Here’s hoping this caliber of performer returns in a new era. They’re badly needed and lacking. This is fabulous, and Carson gave him the star treatment he deserved, lots of time to sing more than just one song. Bennett slautes his contemporaries with his own style and energy, not a dull moment in this perforamcne if you have any educated class about music.
