I am in complete awe of these wonderful women. I started spinning just before March 2020 when we entered lockdown in the UK. It was my salvation and made what could have been a truly dispiriting experience, one full of joy. I will never be as accomplished as these spin(st)ers. I would love to visit the US and visit your beautiful museum. Who knows - one day perhaps. Thank you.

Oh my goodness. I have an antique chair wheel from either Connecticut or NY. I’ve been trying to figure out what to use for a drive and to connect the smaller wheel to the larger wheel.

I bought a wheel that came over to the States from Norway. I don't know what year it was made, but I know that it was before 1900. I had bobbins made for it and I am going to learn to spin on it. I have used a drop spindle and I have another wheel that was made in the 1970's that I have begun to spin on, but I am not very good yet. I am hoping to get one of my daughters to learn too.

Hello dontlike - i am trying to help a friend who found a a very old spinning wheel in a barn sale in western Washington state that they are pretty sure came from Norway... they found the name O Trogadon on it - we haven't found any information about it and wondering if you might have a name on yours or know whom we might refer for more information. I know the hardware on it is true wrought iron - her husband is a blacksmith and made a few repairs so it now works very nicely.

There were many Germans who emigrated to SC so it would make sense that Loyce's wheel was German

I was very inspired by this video I was looking for s pinning wheel so I went ahead and purchased a flax spinning wheel. Her flyer has one wing though and I know I must repair or replace it....it was repaired before so I know it is probably too delicate to spin with. Do you have a referral for these old parts in my search? I know that they are pretty specific but being that I have the original one, I am hoping to find a match.

After receiving another flyer, she only needs a set of leathers to be up and running. I was able to rig the replacement flyer and everything lines up fine.

Its a spinster not a spinner. Its where we get the word spinster for an unmarried woman. A girl had to be able to make various garments before she could be considered for marriage and was known as a spinster as shewould spin he yarn.
Those unlucky not to acquire a husband kept the name spinster and then the double meaning came in.

spining from france. Don't be admiring, its easy to spin, if you have the temper to do it , in a few hours you will succed. its much easier than to speak perfect English, so excuse my poor English, south west france, where the spinners are mostly english, dutch ladies, but young french girl are also learning with local wool as we have a large varieties of sheeps, goats, lamas alpagas.

This isn't really about the spinning itself - it's about the antique wheels.
