I usually read the rulebooks. Pulled out Taverns last night to learn it, and after a rough week of work was just overwhelmed with all the components and setup. Packed it away in about 5 minutes, resigned to skip it this week at game night. Woke up, decided to see what good ol’ Rodney has to say, and now this is going to hit the table tonight after all. Love what you do. What a career - wanna trade?
My wife gave me this game for Christmas. Your video helped a lot in learning the set-up and rules! Love the game so much we played four games in a row!
Best reviewer out there! I'm a HUGE fan of Rodney and if I have travel outta Brazil to a board game event my major wish would be to meet this guy! Thank for this wonderful video!
Watch It Played we played it several times on our cruise, and we have really enjoyed it! We already have 8 plays, and have even played through the FaceTime playing we have been doing until we are reunited!
Another great explanation Rodney! Juggling those coasters without dropping any die looked like a dexterity mini game! Not to mention the flipping of the box cover at the beginning!
Rodney, you always do such a great job explaining how games work. I have to say you're really good at your job and I always look forward to your videos (both Watch It Played and your Vlog). You're someone I would love to sit down and play a game with sometime if you're ever in St. Louis, Missouri,USA. I wish we had some board game conventions here.
Thanks for another great video. This game I just bought as a used copy. So I did look if you had done a video for this one and lucky me, you have. Yeah!
Oh thank you so much! I just did a search for this tutorial and you didn't have one out yet, and then I got a notification that you just posted it. What luck! My copy is on its way and I'm super excited.
Superb instructional video as always Rodney, thank you! Just picked this up and looks like a fun one that should be relatively easy to learn and get to the table...cheers!!
I've just gotten the game 2 days ago and it's amazing, but I'm not sure whether I do the beer/coin thing correctly - what we would do when the turn was over was counting the beers/coins left and available for storage (so 2 beers/coins before upgrades) and store those, then reset the counter for the next turn. Say turn 1 I had 1 beer/coin left, I would store those and reset the counter, so if I had a surplus of +2 beer/coin by the end of the 2nd turn, I would store those as well and have +3 beer/coin in total stored going into turn 3 - is this how it's supposed to be played or the limit doesn't reset between turns? Otherwise, I love it already and thank you for a great video!
Such good videos, talking in front of the camera for such long videos and about detailed rules doesn't seem to bother at all. It's good to see you on BGG videos also ! Keep it going, it's great !
Rodney, how many attempts did it take you to flip the game box and catch it right side up without looking away from the camera?!? Wow, that is true professional talent. I watched it 5 times and am amazed.... Hmmm... now what game was this? Oh yes Tiefenthal, one of my favorite towns in the area! Great video.
My only complaint so far with this game is that I wish they had some tracker or pieces to represent the number of gold and beers you have to spend on your turn. I would add up my gold, moving dice off those spots as I went (so I knew it was already counted), then do the same to add up my beers, and fully forget how many gold I’d just counted. This game already has a nice tactile element, so I think little gold coins or beer pieces would be a fitting addition. We resorted to using the unused or spent server dice as counters.
Just finished the game. It was a lot of fun even though unpacking it and setting it up the first time was a little intimidating with the high piece count. Great quality, but the zip bags for the parts don’t zip very good? It’s a bit lame to say and I would make fun of me for saying this publicly, but I had a surprisingly hard time closing the bags when putting it all away…
Amazing video! Really helps me to sort out how I can explain this game to my friends =) I did nothice though, was the counter guest portion missed out??
@@wanlinhuang8465 That's covered here: ua-cam.com/video/kzK9pL1ehiA/v-deo.html Rather than try to explain those symbols individually (which I felt might be unclear at that point int he video), I felt that was best to leave to the players during their first game.
Can you get discount for upgrading the bear storage? The barback goes there but there is no small icon of discount. And thanks for the explantion! We played the game yesterday with your help
Curse you Rodney and your excellent explanation of game rules. Now there’s another game I have to add to my list. Okay, not curse you, probably the exact opposite. Thanks for another great video. 😃👍

At any point during the phase. I would typically activate a spot to gain what I needed, and then spend it right after on what I want, and then activate something else and spend what it generated, etc.
I'd love an expansion for it, but they need to make sure it includes beer and coin tokens. For me, and many people like me, it's much easier to focus on the game when I can generate my resources all at once and then spend from that pool. Less work trying to keep a constant changing string of numbers in my head and more focus on my actual choices. Sure, I could just make my own, but the art is so great here that I'd be willing to pay for tokens in theme.
Is there anyway to track how much beer the bareback provided or is it just supposed to be remembered? Edit: Nevermind answered Game looks amazing. Do wish beer or coin tokens existed though everything else is so amazing it would have pushed it over the top.
As you lose every coin and/or beer at the end of your turn that you can not store, i think that the designers felt that tokens would not be necessary. And they would have made the game a little bit mor expensive. I have played the game many times and it works well without tokens.
Yep, you still put 4 white dice on the coasters. I can't remember off the top if there are any changes, but if there are, I will have mentioned them in the video.
Seems kinda clunky to not have beer or coin tokens to help keep track during turns. Looks like the game can get quite mathy as it progresses. Easily fixed with tokens of our own, just a bit clunky.

I like the little smirk at the end of that shot. Like he went, "oh yea, first try. I'm that good" 😁
Have played this game 5 times now. Definitely feels like a step up from quacks of quedlinburg. It's a solid lighter game
