Edward, could you recommend an interface for me to use primarily for REW room correction with a calibrated UMIK 2 microphone with a Surface Windows Laptop? I might also try some recordings using a two mic setup for acoustic guitar and vocals. Very much a noob and these waters are hard for me to navigate. Currently just plugging directly in and out of the laptop for room correction but not sure I trust it. Thanks.
From past experience I had with Tascam, I think I will stick to work with that brand, I really need an interface upgrade since my old US144 no longer works on recent OS (it worked great for the past 13 years! Great Quality) but for me it's important to have midi inputs, thank you for making this video, it helped me a lot.
They all sound great! I was impressed. The Volt with vintage filter and the old warhorse the Scarlett with AIR enabled sounded the most pleasing to my ears. Its amazing what the more affordable interfaces can do these days.
Just my 2 cents. I think the interfaces featured don't compare well with each other as their pricing is all over the place. for example, why compare a volt 1 at $139 to a minifuse 1 and komplete audio 1 when the minifuse 2 and audio 2 are the ones that compete with that in the pricing segment. then a $180 tascam gets a mention that is in another pricing segmant which now competes with a scarlett 2i2. my suggestion is, make it consistent to your title. "best $100" means pricing is expected to be very close to 100. this video's title would fit better with "best under $200" in my opinion.
Thanks for running these down--love the side-by-side comparison with your actual voice, but I think it would helpful to give us like a second to just listen to the signal so we can hear the noise floor by itself.
I have two Scarlett Focusrite cards on my media computers. One is an older one 2 inputs 6 outputs [incl RCA] that I use to power my HIFI and the other is 2 in / 2 out - this one is a newer model and it feeds the audio to two Yamaha HS8 active speakers that I use in my living room. I'm super satisfied with both. I never used any plugins on either because I use plugins only in my studio where I use a RME core card with a RME converter but I have a feeling that they're probably pretty solid! I can totally imagine running a project studio on this card. It is also super awesome for stuff like podcasting etc where you don't need to buy and mic preamps because mine have 2 built into them. I've never used them, but they're probably ok.
half of these had pretty noisy preamps, I was very impressed with the volt, it had a little noise floor but was very pleasant, But the Mackie was insanely clean and pretty pleasant, The Evo 4 was also amazing with almost a silent noise floor. The Native instrument was pretty good but sounded a little fuzzy to me in the voice which I thought was strange. Tascam was really noisy, so was the mini fuze 1. The presonus just sounded nasally. The M-Audio was pretty good too. I keep listening to this over and over with my Beyerdynamic DT 177X plugged into the THX 789 at a higher than average volume. And I feel like if I was going to make a purchase out of this list I would buy the Mackie just based on the very clear and pleasant sound. Thank you for the video.
Pretty much what I noticed, the Mackie stood out the most to me right off the bat. I currently got a M-Audio now that I wanna move away from, thinking about getting the volt or the mackie but can't decide...
Hi, first of all I wanted to congratulate you on your videos.... Really interesting, well done and educational. My need is for live use with my band. 20 years ago I was using a pc with a m audio firewire 410 with which I used to manage stereo backing tracks, drummer clicks + vst instruments played live, all driven by cubase. Now it's been 20 years (in which I've been away from gigs) and I'm undecided on what to buy. I have 3 macbook pro's at home so I could use one of them for audio. I don't need to record: I just want to be able to manage backing tracks and simultaneously play vst instruments live (using main stage or gig performer or something... I'll have to look into that too). So I'll need at least 4 outputs (using the backing tracks in mono on one channel and the click on another channel + 2 stereo channels for vst). The idea is to get a soundcard that I can then also use in the future if I decide to switch to ipad (to lighten up the equipment). I also need to connect at least two keyboards via midi, and this I could do by adding a usb hub. I also need traditional midi inputs because I have an old keyboard that doesn't send control changes via USB but only via the midi outputs (although I could probably use a midi to USB cable). Currently what sound cards do you feel like recommending for the use I need? Thanks in advance
Thank you for watching my videos! I think the Presonus Audio Box USB 96 is a great interface for what you need. It is an older model, but for the price it offers everything you are looking for except iPad compatibility. To be honest, I would stick to using a laptop for what you are trying to do. It might be a little bigger and heavier than an iPad, but for running music production software and multiple VST instrument plugins, a laptop is much better.
@@EdwardSmithMusic but it has only 2 outputs... Not good to handle vst (need 2 outputs for stereo) and backing tracks (1 track for the track and the other for the click). Isn't it?

Great video! I’m pretty new to this and in the market for my first interface. Right now I’m creating mostly on my iPad. Do you have any suggestions which interface(s) would be better suited for iPad production? Thanks for your time!✌🏼
My first real interface +10 years ago was some earlier version of this Tascam. I have fond memories and find the preamp to sound pretty sweet and vibey, Would definitely recommend it. Now I run RME Babyface Pro FS and before that Focusrite Saffire pro 40. Tascam definitely sounded better to me than my previous interface by Focusrite.
Funny I actually thought the Evo 4 had the best looks, sound and features. Very warm-sounding, low noise preamps compared to the universal audio. The UA preamp is very bright, borderline harsh in the top end. The Tascam, Art, and Arturia audio interfaces are extremely noisy, I wouldn't get those. The Mackie Onyx surprised me, it sounds really good and has low preamp noise. The M-Audio sounds pretty good, the PreSonus is nothing special in terms of sound quality. The Native Instruments Interface sounds pretty good. Here's how I'm ranking them: 1. Evo 4 (the features/sound/design) 2. Mackie Onyx (sounds good) 3. Native Instruments/Focusrite Scarlett (couldn't choose, they're both great!) 4. M-Audio Air 5. Universal Audio Volt (too bright) 6. Art Pre USB 7. Presonus Studio 24c 8. Arturia Minifuse

One missing that should have been included as one of the newest and definitely best value Audiobox Go. Also the popular Audiobox 96 is still a under $100 interface making it still very popular relative to the 24C and it's built like a brick house as well .
Hmmm. Tascam and Arturia have the noise during the whole record. ART USB i hear a noise coding issue at the end of the record and a bit during the whole record. Volt and Scarlet have a bit of noise during the record too. Especially Scarlet becomes noisier with the AIR mode. NE Komplete is clicking. Audient Evo sounds good but i sense some kind of noise reduction which lowers overall quality. As for me the great and clear sound has ONYX. M-Audio is a bit better than ONYX due to i hear more of a low register.

Thanks a lot for the review, very informative ! I need a little clarity on my situation, I don't have studio monitors, so I I'm planning to use my AKG K361 headphones (32 Ohm) as output. Will this be enough to get a decent sound considering that the Presonus 24c has a high output impedance (22,2 Ohm) and 51,2 mW output power into 32 Ohm ? Or maybe I need another audio interface with a lower output impedance like focusrite solo or 2i2 ( 0,32 Ohm output impedance and 32 mW output power into 32 Ohm ) ?
I rarely subscribe - but you are now one of them. Great job. I agree with you, the Volt 1 sounds best (couldn't tell until high quality headphones used and then it was quite obvious with lack of clarity and/or hiss), closely followed by the Presonus (imho). Pity there are so few inputs on the Volt 1, so for me it comes down to the Volt 2 if I can find it within budget or the Presonus Studio 24c if not and grit my teeth every time I have to unplug the headphones (what were they thinking?).

I had problems with previous tascam 4x4 so will avoid them. Now I have PreSonus Studio 24c which is great value/$ but would NOT buy it again since it has very quiet inputs. I also had Focusrite Scarlett which was great in terms of plug and play.
can you please do a review on the Presonus Eris e66 or e44, and see how they compare to the other single speaker eris' I'm really interested to see what you think, I love your reviews and how detailed they are.
It's rock solid. The Midas pre-amps are very quiet, it's got a huge feature list for the price. Can't remember if it comes bundled with software but I use mine with Audacity so not a problem. If you don't need the multiple output options the 202 has basically the same feature set. If you just need something basic the umc22 is dirt cheap and a solid performer. I upgraded to the 204 from one of these. It only records to 16bit though if that's important to you. Don't cheap out and look at the um2, it uses a different noiser preamp and is all plastic, ugh. Look up Julian Krause on UA-cam for some good but tech heavy reviews of the behringers.
No mention of Behringer? I know they aren't fashionable but you can't deny their specs or value for money. The 204 out-specs just about all of these, at a lower price point.
can you tell me latest mpc as from akai or rode caster pro 2 can better then these and work as full fucntional audio interface?audio mixer, streamer, podcaster, midi effects controller? can we use for full music production is they replace all ? or not
Hi. I heard there are issues with usb Audio Interfaces work on win10 and AMD hardware. I'm looking to buy a beginner level device but i'm worried if i also have to switch to intel pc? Any advices pls.

PLEASE RESPOND TO MY QUESTION I’m getting into producing and can’t figure this out. I have two usb plugs on my computer so: Can I plug my keyboard by usb to my computer and then plug my microphone to my audio interface and plug this audio interface to the other usb plug of my computer and make them all work at the same time? Sorry for the weird sentence English is not my forte.
Yeah, this should work. Just ensure everything is set up in your daw settings too. If your interface has a USB pass through you could also use that for your midi keyboard.
I feel the scarlett solo had a better sound with the air feature on but the audient evo 4 has a better built which is easier to use and then you say that the Volt is better but I also am beginner I haven't bought anything yet so I also need one with good software Bundle. 🙏🏻 help me
Hello. I will use it to record podcasts and use it live. I have two options that I can use with a good microphone: SM7B or EV RE20. It should also be able to play these microphones without any problems. I have used SLL+ before and the sm7b microphone was playing without any problems. I want a sound card suitable for my intended use, but I do not want to make unnecessary expenses. If there is a sound card that you can definitely recommend buying this model, I will buy it, no problem. While I'm at it, I want to buy a good product. I hope I could explain myself. I expect your help in this regard.
In this range I think the Focusrite is the best. 2i2 is an even better value for money than the Solo, especially if you're planning on using headphones and monitors. Can't ignore the fact that it comes free with over 12+ plugins including Antares Auto-Tune Access!
Audient , Native instruments, mackie (mackie best), presonus, m-audio. Art - some noise... Good preamps , without noise Arturia - bad preamp Tascam - many noise Uad many noise Focusrite - many noise
Hi. Can i use this focusrite for concert? I want more or less decent sound, better than default laptop audio out. Also sound recording. I want this: laptop -> focusrite -> audio mixing console (f.e. Yamaga MX12) -> speakers (800wt). Which outputs to use: front side single TRS out or back side stereo pair outputs? Also was wondering which audiocard is better: focusrite or Audioquest Dragonfly DAC? Thank you very much
It’s not “Onx”. It’s pronounced more like “Ah-nix”. But you don’t seem to be a native English speaker. So no big deal. Just thought I’d point it out. Excellent video.
Wondering if anybody can help. I’ve been searching for the m audio m track 2x2 drivers for Mac for like 2 days and can’t find them anywhere. Any idea where I might be able too find them a link or something? The maudio site does not have them whatsoever and I can’t find the driver
The better you hear the audio examples, the more distortion that preamp has!(provided they are level-matched) I was actually blown away by how bad the presonus here is. On the other hand, distortion is not always bad if you know what you're doing...
Hey man! great content. awesome reviews!! qq: I own an audient id4, I can only record my vocals thru the D.I input since the XRL preamp input is broken. i've been checking on getting the scarlett solo and7or the VOLT1. is it going to make any difference on my vocals? or should i just keep on using my ID4. till I can get a higher budget interface to improve the sound. I dont wanna waste over a 100 dollars. please help me make up my mind. Ill appreciatte it! Take care!
At this price point, don't waste time just get the lowest in your location. The difference is not noticeable after recordings. No one can identify the AI used in any song. Creativity matters most

hi... I have a question Edward... do they have USB ones not only XLR's?
I liked the comparison on voice.
Comparison with instruments plugged in would be great.
Any thoughts on Behringer 204HD audio interface?
@@emergingloki Thanks a lot 🙏. Can you use it for streaming live on different platforms? Does it have loop back?
I'm stuck between the M-Audio AIR 192 model and the Artura Minifuse 1, which one should I choose? I'll be using it mainly for vocal recording.
m audio air is the best because its much clear and has lower noise floor listen on headphones
No mention of Behringer? I know they aren't fashionable but you can't deny their specs or value for money.
The 204 out-specs just about all of these, at a lower price point.
I'm honestly surprised it didn't make this list. 202 & 204 offer the same specs and best value for money.
Behringer UMC202HD?
This is now my favorite video
can you tell me latest mpc as from akai or rode caster pro 2 can better then these and work as full fucntional audio interface?audio mixer, streamer, podcaster, midi effects controller? can we use for full music production is they replace all ? or not
I definitely have a thing for at AIR feature because the focusrite on AIR mode and the M Audio Air sounded best to my ears
Hey man do any of these have the ability to send a click track to the headphones and not to the main out when connected to iPad?
Hi. I heard there are issues with usb Audio Interfaces work on win10 and AMD hardware. I'm looking to buy a beginner level device but i'm worried if i also have to switch to intel pc? Any advices pls.
great review
dope content as usual
Very good video! Thank you
Thanks for watching!!
Please make a video for audio interface that has line output which cable I should buy that have output line on the other side and have jacks on the other side coz am using M audio m BX5
PLEASE RESPOND TO MY QUESTION
I’m getting into producing and can’t figure this out.
Thanks a lot :)! I am doing final research
Is there an option to connect another sound output other than the monitors through the midi out connection on the volt 1?
honestly you think its the best way to showcase the pre amp ? by the recorded image? we can change it you know that right ?
Not gonna lie the mackie sounds awesome
yeah im suprised lol aswell as the m audio air
quick question, the komplete audio can run 250ohm headphones?
hi, what's the problem if an evo4 kept freezing my computer when connected??
Great comparison 👍
I have the volt 176 really amazing sound quality 👌 and the compressor is 👍 👍 great
I need a usb interface that draws power from the wall instead of my computer for my live streams. Any suggestions?
Which of these has less noise? And which has more gain?
Could you also help us decide between the best monitor headphones under 100 dollars
Much love from india
Watch this video - ua-cam.com/video/tvq6AGf7wN8/v-deo.html
anyway just to add for the audient evo4 you get to also use the sotware o audient that really helps you i you want to control it via your computer
Sheeeeesh why must presonus be soo good..I love it
Edward plz give a video on beginner, midrange and pro next level audio interfaces
Great idea! I'll look into it 👌 If you are a fellow subscriber, thank you for supporting the channel!
@@EdwardSmithMusic thanks😍 waiting for it actually am using right now id4 mk2 but want to upgrade to NXT level so confused I was thinking abr Lyra 1
Great list, but I'd be happier it was listed as "around $150" because only one of these is actually around $100.
Tascam sounded good
Are they all the same in trums of just listening to music?
In this range I think the Focusrite is the best. 2i2 is an even better value for money than the Solo, especially if you're planning on using headphones and monitors. Can't ignore the fact that it comes free with over 12+ plugins including Antares Auto-Tune Access!
Autotune would be my main reason NOT to buy it, lol.
focusrite sounded terrible compared to the volt tbh
Arturia mini fuse 4 or Komplete audio 6 mk2?
well xplained
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
intro music is like getting drunk lol
Bro I Suggest M AUDIO AIR 192 | 4 For Beginners ❤
M audio air or scarlett 2i2 wich one is the best choice for tiktok lives?
m audio air is clean
Audient , Native instruments, mackie (mackie best), presonus, m-audio. Art - some noise...
Good preamps , without noise
Arturia - bad preamp
Tascam - many noise
Uad many noise
Focusrite - many noise
Hi.
Can i use this focusrite for concert? I want more or less decent sound, better than default laptop audio out. Also sound recording.
I want this: laptop -> focusrite -> audio mixing console (f.e. Yamaga MX12) -> speakers (800wt).
Which outputs to use: front side single TRS out or back side stereo pair outputs?
Also was wondering which audiocard is better: focusrite or Audioquest Dragonfly DAC?
Thank you very much
Which one has the best software package?
It’s not “Onx”. It’s pronounced more like “Ah-nix”. But you don’t seem to be a native English speaker. So no big deal. Just thought I’d point it out.
Excellent video.

Wondering if anybody can help. I’ve been searching for the m audio m track 2x2 drivers for Mac for like 2 days and can’t find them anywhere. Any idea where I might be able too find them a link or something? The maudio site does not have them whatsoever and I can’t find the driver
Mine is V8s, be warned that all of its ports are 3.5mm (including mic input) + no phantom power meaning you need to get a separate one.
300$ interfaces please!
The better you hear the audio examples, the more distortion that preamp has!(provided they are level-matched) I was actually blown away by how bad the presonus here is. On the other hand, distortion is not always bad if you know what you're doing...
So u mean the presonus's sound quality is good but its not well set up here?
Hey man! great content. awesome reviews!! qq: I own an audient id4, I can only record my vocals thru the D.I input since the XRL preamp input is broken. i've been checking on getting the scarlett solo and7or the VOLT1. is it going to make any difference on my vocals? or should i just keep on using my ID4. till I can get a higher budget interface to improve the sound. I dont wanna waste over a 100 dollars. please help me make up my mind. Ill appreciatte it! Take care!
Only issue I have with the Focusrites is the red color … I know it’s weird, but having that red box at my desk just bothers me (daily)
Tascam best of the best
why are many reviewers in a hurry like a fire somewhere? they never pause to let me hear the noise for a few seconds...
Evo 8? Bought mine new on Amazon for £89 ($109) just a few months ago :D
How to connect midi keyboard to solo audio interface this one...??
At this price point, don't waste time just get the lowest in your location. The difference is not noticeable after recordings. No one can identify the AI used in any song. Creativity matters most
I didnt hear any difference on sound test...
Please suggest me best audio interface please
Why did you not review the new interface by CAD audio known as the CAD cx2
Probably because they haven't sent him one.
Is there an interface that can take audio and midi into a laptop at the same time?
from the list, the universal audio volt 1, art pre usb II, tascam us 2x2hr, and the presonus studio 24c all have midi connections on the interface
Volt 2 is cheaper than the Tascam, you should've add it instead of Volt 1
? Volt 2 must be closer to $200
@@fluphybunny930 here in europe it cost 177$ which makes it cheaper than the Tascam, but on sweetwater it cost 189$, so....
