I remember listening to this on the way to summer camp. The guy who drove the van turned up the radio when this song came on. Me and the other kids didn't mind.
you have a great record collection! I get to hear songs the way I remember them 40 years ago. love the mono beatles, just like I heard them as a teenager.
Usually like the mono version of most 45's better, but not in this case. The stereo has no vocal overdubs and is much more intimate and fits better with this tender, beautiful song.
there was never a stereo mix of this released, you are referring to a later studio outtake called an "underdub" that hasn't had the harmonies mixed in yet. that version was taken from a cassette traded between collectors. it would have been great if they'd mixed the song in real stereo. the rechannelled versions are awful with delay in the left channel and drowning in obnoxious reverb.
Evie Sands had the original but it wasn't a hit. She had the misfortune of being on a label that was on the brink of oblivion. Even so, Evie's idiosyncratic phrasing and the decidedly ramshackle production sink the original compared to Merrilee's hit rendition. ua-cam.com/video/drm29EmXjW0/v-deo.html
My favorite version. I believe Evie Sands did a version before this one but this has the best sound. Juice Newtons version was okay but to me when 80s music kicked in it start to sound like music out of a can. When comparing the 60s music to the 80s it's like comparing made from scratch pasta sausa to Ragu sause.
There was never a true stereo version. The album version was rechanneled. There is a stereo version on UA-cam but missing the harmony vocal. Sounds odd
Original Bell Records #705 Debut 5/4/1968 and peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Debut 5/4/1968 and peaked at #3 on the Cashbox Top 100 chart.
feel bad for Evie Sands... her version came out a year earlier in '67... this was better arrangement and timing the release and hooking up with Paul Revere & the Raiders helped make this one the big hit... oh well that's the music biz... yep
제목 : Angel Of The Morning Song by : Merrilee Rush There'll be no strings to bind your hands 당신의 손을 묶을 끈은 어디에도 없을 거예요. Not if my love can find your heart And there's no need to take a stand For it was I who chose to start I see no need to take me home I'm old enough to face the dawn Just call me angel of the morning, (angel) (천사) Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby 그대 떠나기 전에 내 뺨을 만져보아요, 그대여. Then slowly turn away I won't beg you to stay with me. Maybe the sun's light will be dim And it won't matter anyhow If morning's echo says we've sinned Well it was what I wanted now And if we're victims of the night I won't be blinded by the night Through the tears of the day, of the years
Some of the other top tens in 1968 were Simon Says, Bottle of Wine, The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde, Honey, Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, The Horse, Here Comes the Judge, and other assorted unlistenable schlock.
juice's was a bigger US hit 13 years later as well as a huge international hit as well, mainly because she was on RCA. Merrillee was on Amy/Mala/Bell, which was a relatively small independently distributed label without the financial clout RCA has. That doesn't mean Juice's is a better song. It is not. It lacks the emotion Merrillee puts into the song...so much that you can almost hear her slipping out the back door into the early light of dawn
Merrilee Rush's original recording was sensational compared to her live performances that lacked the harmony of the band and her voice quality which were a disappointment on the stage.
The original, and still the best version of this song ever put to vinyl.
NOT the original (that honor goes to Evie Sands) but definitely the original HIT version.
This song is so Lovely This song make me cry 😭
My father had all these old 45s I listened to them an I still love them I'm 42 an they are my go to relaxing music
Summer of '68. Love it.
Another Golden Oldie!

Oh my, that is perfection. Thank you so much, what a great song by a great woman!
Angel 624 of the morning. I couldn't resist posting this.
Great song that was also a hit for Juice Newton in 1981.
One Hit Wonder from 1968.. peaked at # 7 the week ending June 29, 1968 for 3 weeks.

Beautiful Song PERIOD ! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Yup, This is the original.....finally...
Best version. More emotional than Juice's one, I feel.

Superb. 💙 T.E.N.
Mono and 77 forever!
I much prefer this sound to the souped-up "stereo" versions I've been listening to.
Original better than the 80's Juice Newton version.
Sounds so good, thanks!
Just beautiful.

Angel Of The Morning
Song by : Merrilee Rush
There'll be no strings to bind your hands
Not if my love can find your heart
And there's no need to take a stand
For it was I who chose to start
I see no need to take me home
I'm old enough to face the dawn
Just call me angel of the morning, (angel)
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby
Then slowly turn away
I won't beg you to stay with me.
Maybe the sun's light will be dim
And it won't matter anyhow
If morning's echo says we've sinned
Well it was what I wanted now
And if we're victims of the night
I won't be blinded by the night
Through the tears of the day, of the years
Baby, baby,
Seems like Bell 45s of this era had the most extended frequency range.
Did Phil Spector have anything to do with this? Something about the reverberation of the tambourine has a wall-of-soundy quality
ferociousgumby I don't think so.
This was done at Chips Moman's American Sound Studio in Memphis.
believe it or not, this was written by Jon Voight's brother.
yeah..wasn't it chip?
Angelina Jolie
s brother in law
tomloft2000 The Jon Voight, doesn't surprise me Amazing
So was "Wild Thing" by The Troggs in 1966
Some of the other top tens in 1968 were Simon Says, Bottle of Wine, The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde, Honey, Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, The Horse, Here Comes the Judge, and other assorted unlistenable schlock.
