Gentle Giant ... who else has a guitarist playing recorder, a drummer on vibraphone, a keyboard player on cello, and a bass player rippin' it up with a violin?
So, the flutist is actually a guitarist, the violinist is actually the bassist, the guy on the chello is the keyboard player and the one on the vibraphone is the drummer? That makes sense.
Thank you so much for posting this track by the amazing Gentle Giant....a brilliant live version . I was so fortunate to see the band in the early 1970's...as a teenager ... the band were so amazing and underated. They blew me away. I'm now 66... have all the albums....and the track sounds just as fresh as when I first heard it. Peace from Liverpool UK 👍✌️🤘☮️
Certainement le groupe le plus original de l'époque , certes il y en avait d'autres comme Henry Cow etc .. mais cette musique mêle folklore et modernité. Excellents musiciens.
I saw them around this era, and play this song, at Avery Fisher Hall in New York. They were the unsung best prog rock band. It was all Yes, Genesis and Jethro Tull with me, but Giant were the giants. Sit there and play five different instruments, more actually, and sing five different things like they were ten different guys, and smile nonchalantly while doing it.
Ever notice how much Ray Shulman smiles while performing live? I've seen it on quite a few of these live videos! Super musician & I heard a beautiful human being!
THIS IS SO FUCKING WONDERFUL! I JUST GOT THAT DVD AND FINALLY COULD ENJOY A CONCERT OF THE GG. THIS PIECE SHOULD BE PLAYED ALL AROUND THE WORLD, ALL THE TIME!!!
I was a freak in the 70's and went to many shows from different bands. this one is very special and always makes me nostalgic. I have heard they used 37 instruments for one gig. They kept their roadies busy!
That's what I'm talkin' about!! Just stopped by to pay my respects to the best of the best! I like how they end the piece with part of the opening phrase of "You're Old As You're Young" from The Missing Piece album.
Three out of my four favorite bands I got into in 1971. Still my favorites today. Zappa, Tull, and GG. The fourth band is also Prog but didn't get into them until the '90s. Neal Morse.
+RhayaderTheir is so much genius in that man its ridiculous. So epic and legendary.I play bass and he is easily in my top 3 if not # 1 musicians of all time just on his bass playing alone.Add the fact that he kicks ass on violin vocals and trumpet
Not genius, but very, very good. Being a genius is more of a lifestyle. They didn't write that much music after the 10 years as GG. A genius would have continued writing. Zappa was genius. GG wasn't. But they were damn good. Got to see them in concert back then and always a great show. I think the touring wore on them and they all knew that family was the most important thing in life.
Gentle Giant was and will be the most sophisticated, elaborated, exquisite and complex Rock Band of all times, having excellent virtuosos multi-instrumentalists, although the Great Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull, ELP, Pink Floyd had more success. It is a "superior above-high level" Progressive Symphonic Rock composition. But the person who consider himself a Music expert, knows very well the GIANT dimension of this superlative Band

Magiche sinfonie❤
Giant were the most underrated Prog Bands of the last century. Master musicians.
Ça peut faire sourire certains le côté troubadour,n’empêche que je suis toujours ébahi devant les compétences et la créativité de ce groupe !!
This is THE BEST BAND EVER AND EVER.

habe sie seit den 70 gern gehöhrt - dieses Lied habe ich noch Heute in meinen Ohren - KLASSE !!

The logistics of doing this live! Also, the legs!
I feel like I'm at a medieval festival with this song. Both relaxing and stunning
That is some complicated stuff and to perform it "live" and this well, is truly incredible!

3:08 This is the point in it that totally blows my mind! WOW!
Gregory The whole thing is absolutely marvelous.....the most sophisticated and complex rock band ever.....GG forever!!!!
Seriously, how the fuck does someone play violin and sing at the same time? Ray Shulman, my fucking hero.

yes i always say the same thing all the time!!!
Simply Wonderfull

+Pedro Santos You are right, they are on the same level as Yes or Genesis, but a few people know them
+STEVE RED .STEVE RED Beyond them. Galaxies beyond them. This is pure genius
Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Gentle Giant e King Crismon. They are my favorite bands!
Best ever made❤
(my) Best prog band ever :)
I'll give that to Zappa but yes, they were really good.
This video left me in a fugue state.
progressive rock groups back then could cover all the bases...great band!
Magnífico
a treat to watch the Giant deconstruct conventional prog music with aplomb
Genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Zappa had them beat for being the most sophisticated and everything else. But I did enjoy them in their day.
Their name is puzzling to me. I guess we don't read much Rabelais around here🙂
Ils ont joué ça au vieux Forum
Electric Eclectic Eccentric
oh my god.....
😊

You made my cat leave.
Typical, drummer on xylophone, guitarist on recorder, bass on violin, keyboards on cello. Name me another band of such depth of talent 🤔
Yeah, can't really see how Elton John would have fit in. Glad they let him go.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
