  • I'm going to restring my all bisque baby doll. He was made in Japan around the 1930s. He has pin joints (little wire hooks). This technique can also be used for vintage hard plastic and composition dolls that have a similar stringing method. I am an amateur and learning right along with you! If you are an expert I hope you didn't cringe too much! 😂
    Here are the supplies I used. I got my elastic on the Dollspart website: Dollspart.com dollspart.com/index.php?main_... have some of the other supplies I used.
    doll stringing elastic sizes 1 and 2
    needle nose pliers (any craft store)
    hemostat clamp (craft store, online, medical supply)
    scissors
    a needle tool ( I ordered mine on amazon)
    kit leather (optional) for lining joints first on all bisque. I use old gloves that I thrift
    If I forgot something or you have a question feel free to leave a comment. I'll reply!
    Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my video🤗✨

    Oh thank you! I watched my own mother re-stringing my dolls nearly 70 years ago, but could not remember how it goes. Several other videos were too lengthy and confusing, but yours is perfect! So clear and to the point! If you are an amateur, I think you definitely have this off to a fine art!

      The first one I tried was just a little plastic Kewpie style that just needed arms. I used craft elastic just to see if I could do it. It was easy! I can't fix my car but there something satisfying about repairing something you enjoy 😍✨ Keep me posted on your progress...

    I'm still a little confused but I bet I would learn how to do this if I were right there with you and also doing it alongside you. That's how I learn best.

    A steel crochet hook, probably a size seven, works great for this. In some cases you could even go up to a size one. The sizing is backwards, one being the largest. You can get all the sizes you might ever need in one set. I have , probably, every size hook known to man in my craft supplies anyway and found the crochet hooks to be just the ticket when I was restringing a composition doll I’ve had for about 60 years. I also used them when I was stringing a full body porcelain doll I made a few years back.

      Thanks Holly H 🤗What a great idea!!! I have the hooks as I'm a knitter and dabble in crochet. Perfect for doll stringing! ❤️✨

    I need to get some doll string! I meant to buy some when I saw a different restringing video and still haven't gotten around to it...🙄 Your dolly patients look great after the gentle visit to Dr. Dot! Excellent tutorial👍🥰

      It's fun to do Heather Elizabeth. I haven't attempted my large antique doll yet. She doesn't need restringing. The little penny/carnival dolls with their dangling limbs are just so easy to fix. I want to see more of your dolls- and hear their stories!😍✨

    Fascinating. You seem to collect dolls of different materials. Are you collecting a certain era or size? Or its it more just liking an individual doll that strikes your fancy?

      I love the vintage/antique composition dolls and German antique bisque head dolls (too expensive). I also love the small all bisque penny/carnival dolls from the early half of the 20th century. I have received many dolls as gifts, like the little plastic one in this video. So yes, I guess everything! Haha. It's fun to put them back together when their limbs are missing or dangling about 😂😍💕

    This is so helpful..I just posted a new porcelain doll that needs restringing..do you think this technique is the remedy for her?!?
    I had no idea it was elastic string. I will have to get some! How do I know if she is bisque ..and what is a bisque doll?!🥰❤️

    • @thedollcupboard
      @thedollcupboard  11 місяців тому +1

      I just started looking at your new, awesome doll! (my hubby called me away so I need to go back to it) I'll chat w you on Instagram. She looks all bisque, which just means her whole body, head, limbs and torso are unglazed porcelain/ ceramic of some kind. I love that she called to you to get her! 😍✨

    • @thedollcupboard
      @thedollcupboard  11 місяців тому

      From what I could tell in your video Jolene, this is the video that would be most helpful for doing your doll. You could string her head to her legs, like I do here, or head to arms (concept and technique are exactly the same). String the limbs that don't go to the head to each other. ie: arms to arms, or legs to legs. You don't need to add the kid leather if you think it's unnecessary (or don't have any ). If you really wanted you could use fabric instead. Felt might be too thick. I hope this helps ❤ Can't wait to see her emerge!😊
