This movie was partially filmed in my little town of keansburg, New Jersey. I remember when they were filming this movie, everyone in town was excited, I understand why they wanted to use our little town. We have that boardwalk, that is a gem.... and our New York skyline views can not be beat.

If you're someone who has ever had an unreasonable attatchment to a piece of media. If you never felt like you were understood by society. If you've struggled with your identity (especially with gender). If you enjoy arthouse films and want something that will leave you thinking. Then this is a movie for you.
The people who dislike it just aren't the taget audience, and that's okay.

Having seen the movie I can tell you the thing about this trailer is, while technically it shows some (not all) of the best images of the movie, seeing the actual film will give them context and narrative that I guarantee will blow you away. You will never guess how these images fit together. Very, very special Film. The top comment on this trailer bothers me every time I rewatch it, so just wanted to put in my two cents :)

A movie like this isn’t going to have its trailer spammed all over television so it has to do the best it can to draw someone in. I also got no sense of its narrative structure which is my biggest complaint with big budget trailers.

I'm not sure what to really think of the trailer. The saying I saw the tv glow, that had me thinking Poltergeist. Then when the two started talking about a show they watched as a kid. It makes me feel like they have been brain washed.
I'm going to go watch it and if I don't like it, I blame YOU. Lol. Just kidding, if I don't like it, that's on me and my taste alone. I never let someone dictate what I might like and don't like. I wish you all the best and like the Terminator said, I'll be back. Lmao

Saw this at the Berlin Intl Film Festival with a Q&A from Jane Schoenbrun, it is quite unlike anything I've ever seen before and I saw that in the best way possible. Truly something special. That said, it is going to be incredibly divisive, people will either love it or hate it with no in-between.
Also, little disheartning seeing so many comments prasing A24 and not Jane themselves, it's their movie! They worked incredibly hard on it and it is a very personal project, they deserve all the praise in the world.

i’ll be honest- i had high hopes for this movie and my expectations were met. i also don’t know how to explain the way this movie affected me. i’ve seen some ppl say that they started sobbing as soon as the credits began to roll, i’ve also seen some ppl say that it was just a “weird movie”. in my opinion, this movie most definitely shifted smth in me that i didn’t know could be shifted. i am not trans, but you don’t need to be to feel the euphoria, loneliness, nostalgia and emptiness that this movie presents. this isn’t a movie for everyone, but everyone who watches this movie will feel differently about it. and i think that’s what cinema has been missing nowadays- original and passionate stories. this movie is most certainly one of those rare gems.

This movie is NOT for everyone. And many will not understand it, but the true message of the movie is existential horror of not being yourself.
If you are interested in a similar movie, I HIGHLY RECCOMENED "Im thinking of ending things"

how can it possibly be a movie about not being yourself what its supposed to be a pro trans whatever movie, which means that its pro not being yourself by default? why every time a queer gets involved with something you ONLY hear the biggest contradictions imaginable? :p

Am I the only one who can hear the crt’s high pitched ring? It really hurt everytime it played, it’s in this trailer too

I noticed it as well when I watched the film and although the ring of an idling television is incredibly painful and irritating, I found myself appreciating the sound design. Not many people seem to hear the ring, and not many films accurately portray the feeling of being overstimulated.
