    Newbie here and I absolutely love my x11. And big kudos to you Flyin' Ryan for your great reviews and especially the beginner guide. I'm 50 and this is my very first RC controlled anything. I'm not really even very proficient with xbox or PS games because I find the controls confusing. I got swept up by all the Christmas reviews of quads on TV etc. and started looking into this. Found Flyin' Ryan RC Channel and decided on the X11 for price point, stability. and ease of learning. Well, I would like to let everyone know that with a little practice this is reasonably easy to learn: first indoors and just up/down, hover. Then, when I was comfortable with that a little extra left/right and so on. I have crashed quite a lot at first but with the guard it seems to be quite durable.
    Now, I have been playing around with it so much that I might have damaged a motor recently and I'm working on getting it fixed. But, overall an amazing little flier at a price point you can't beat. Take care everyone and keep flyin.

    Hello Ryan, My X11 just came in the post yesterday. This quad is very good for beginners and intermediates. While I was flying it, the wind took it and I lost power. I saw it drift away and thought that I just wasted 20 quid. Anyways, I ran after it and kept turning the throttle on and off. I heard it in the distance and found the prop-guards stuck on a branch on a tree. I found it and climbed the tree to retrieve it. Of my experience, this quad is a killer. No matter what you throw at it it always prospers. Thanks for the review and keep up the good work.

      Dubbin1 And from what I hear, apparently the Syma X5C-1 transmitter will bind to this! I have just ordered an X5C-1, so I will test that, and compare it to the original X5C. Everyone says it flies better, and being able to use that Tx with the Syma X11 would be so awesome. :D

    OMG! I must be the most unlucky person in the world today! I can't believe I missed those propellers on GearBest because I searched their site ( even filtered the search, Syma x11 parts) and only saw props for the Syma X5C. So I kept searching RC forums and found out about the Syma Toy site. I just paid $10.00 + $3.50 shipping w/tracking number and right after I did it I saw your UA-cam email ( 7:05am) right above my Syma order confirmation (7:00am) email...dammit! I could've saved close to $9....I hope this isn't a sign of how the rest of my day will be..LOL!!
    Thank You so much for your help & advice, it's really appreciated. Now I need to go bang my head against the wall a few times for not waiting for you to answer..ha!ha!ha! Aloha

    I love flying this thing with the Taranis QX7. I know it's an older model but I don't like altitude hold and all my favorite quads to fly are older. The newest quad I fly regularly is the Bugs3 mini. I have a few FPV quads and a bunch of micro FPV equipment but I just enjoy flying LOS so much that I only fly FPV rarely. Most of my best flying quads I bought because of this channel and I aspired to fly as smooth and in control as Ryan. I wish he would come back but there really aren't many toy grade quads worth reviewing these days. Hope you're doing rad Ryan.

    This is currently (End of January 2015) my favorite micro. I just got one of my own because of your review and it is awesome! I only wish, as you stated, that the yaw rate was faster in the high rates setting and the transmitter is annoying. If it had a hobby grade transmitter and better yaw rate it would be my favorite quad, period. Ive flown the Blade Nano, Hubsan, Microdrone 2.0 and several others and I still love this one more. I just click with it.
    Great vid as always, Ryan!

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому +1

      ***** Thanks! And I agree completely. You can use the X5C-1 transmitter, at least, which is hobby-grade styled. But that yaw rate really keeps it from being perfect.

    RYAN!!! I just bought this one now....you have made me a micro addict.
    TIP: For those buying. There is a combo to get extra props and other accessories that can be a much cheaper purchase option rather than using the coupon code. I bought 3 sets of props as a combo and ended up spending $30 instead of $32 with the code.
    Happy Flying!

    Got it today and man is that thing quiet and so stable and easy to fly! I think this is a very good beginners quad myself. Just ordered a second one as My 14yr old loves it as well. May have to get a cam version next. Really like using the XC5-1 transmitter as well. Left the stock one in the package lol. You were right yaw could be a bit faster, but I really just can't complain about it! Sweet lil quad and for when you can't get to the park for the bigger quads this one is perfect for the back yard or even in doors. I like flying it indoors much better than the CX10 I also just got. Thanks for the help on it.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      +wild300zx Yeah, it's an awesome quad. :) The only thing that doesn't make it a perfect beginner's quad, in my opinion, is that the gear-driven props add an extra level of complexity and parts to break. And changing a prop is more complicated than on a direct-drive quad.

    • @Rampage00769
      @Rampage00769 9 років тому +1

      +Flyin' Ryan RC Yeah agreed for kids, but I think most older kids like us can handle it lol. It's not any more complicated than an X5c/C-1, I changed the motors and gears on one of mine after my son got it stuck in a tree in less than 20 minutes including reassemble. These are easier than cars for me.

    Ryan,
    I removed the bottom on this quad and found a 6mm x 2cm piece of sponge in the front porting of the battery case.. I removed the sponge and now I can put in a 500ma battery that tucks in like the original battery. No trimming required because of the larger battery. I agree this a sweet bird. Have fun, Larry Hill

  • @rudjard
    @rudjard 9 років тому

    this is my first quad and i like it. i enjoy playing it so much...easy to fly. what i did was upgraded the battery to 500mAh. the same battery for the X5 it is wider weighs 14.7g while the stock weighs only 7.6g so i velcro it at the buttom. work great fly longer. 3 battery with charger at $14=unlimitted fun. no more long charging wait for me.
    if you guys wanna buy this quad or similar make, buy a spare you wont regreat it. thanks for this review, it helped me narrow down my options.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      stingray You can get a Hubsan X4 500mAh battery which actually fits inside the battery bay, no need to velcro it to the bottom. Keep in mind, though, that you should let the motors cool for 10-15 minutes between flights.

    • @rudjard
      @rudjard 9 років тому +1

      Flyin' Ryan RC yes i should have bought that hubsan battery instead...i didnt know the x5 battery is a bit wider when i purchase it. what i learn now is that, though it's a bit heavy my quad lean to the side or front if i dont center it good. it will fly but a little unstable. with flight practice i can make it fly smooth, i guess that is the downside of putting wrong battery size.
      i will keep that in mind to cool the motor down evry after battery change. thank you for a great review we need people like yourself giving back to the hobby.

  • @Phrancis5
    @Phrancis5 9 років тому +1

    Agreed - this is my favorite micro quad. More stable, and better flying than the hubsan x4 or tiny cheerson cx10 despite the slow roll rate and game controller. When it's raining and I can't fly my huge Syma X8 with quantum FPV kit, I have a blast indoors with my X11...

  • @edthecarpenter

    The controller for the X11 we got the other day, is crazy weird. Left stick is throttle and left right movement. Right stick controls yaw and forward and backward. When we used the X5C-1 transmitter, it fixed that confusion. Did I just get a bad transmitter, or is this typical. I just started flying a couple weeks ago. I'm having a ton of fun. Your reviews make it very easy to purchase new toys. Thanks Ryan

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  10 років тому

      edthecarpenter Ah, that's because the Syma transmitters can switch modes. Check the manual to see if it says how… you probably have to hold some button down while turning on the transmitter. They call it Mode 1 and Mode 2, but really it's Mode 2 (normal) and Mode 4 (the mode yours is currently in).

    Great review of an excellent quad. IMO the yaw rate is on the slow side, but is fine for the way I like to fly. At least it is well matched to the pitch/roll rate, as you clearly had a very easy time doing super smooth circuits in your kitchen. The exceptionally long, very quiet, extremely stable flights are sooo much fun! I like it way better than the v252 v2, at least for indoor flying. I find myself flying it into much tighter spaces than I would ever consider flying my nanos (CX-10 and H7) into. I hardly fly my nanos at all any more now that I have an X11! The blades are a bit fragile, so I wish the prop guard offered a bit more protection from above. I look forward to your review of the X11 with X5C-1 TX.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  10 років тому

      Greg Bush Thanks Greg! I still prefer a faster yaw, and enjoy flying the V252 V2 indoors, but I can certainly understand your preference, and like you said, at least the pitch and yaw rates are evenly matched. :)

    So i got my x11 in the mail yesterday. I took it for it's maiden flight and loved it, definitely an awesome quad. When the battery died I decided to use an extra battery I have while the original battery charged back up. I have a Helimax 1SQ and several 250mah batteries. So I popped one of the 1SQ batteries into the x11. Big mistake. None of the LEDs lit up, but all the props started spinning at 110%. The quad instantly started reeking of burning electrical. I quickly yanked the 1SQ battery out, but the x11 was fried. I think it would have burst into flames had I waited a few seconds to pull the battery. Wowza.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      +BrokenMachine85 Yep, Heli-Max batteries use reverse polarity. That is something you always want to check before using different brand batteries. Hard lesson learned. :(

    i really want this now, first i got the Hubsen x4 and after two days one of the motors burned out so i think i will get this one, great review you helped me alot i was was upset when the Hubsan burned out.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      DougisLive Motors burning out that fast is often due to user error. Make sure to drop the throttle before a crash… if you go into a crash with the motors being powered, that can severely damage the brushes inside the motor. Also be sure to let the motors cool for 10-15min between flights. :)

    Ryan I wasn't sure where else to ask this so I'll ask here. Have you ever experienced where you hook a charger up to a quadcopter or a helicopter with the device turned off and after a minute or two the rotors on the machine just start spinning? I've experienced this twice now. I have a Syma 107 G. I had purchased an aftermarket wall adapter to charge its battery. When I hooked it up to the wall adapter the same way that I ordinarily would hook up the factory charger, after a couple of moments all the sudden the rotors just started spinning real fast. None of the lights were on. On that machine it killed the battery. The same thing happened on my Pearson Cx 10. I hooked it up to a different 3.7 volt charger and even though it was turned off the rotors eventually started spinning. Fortunately in that case it didn't seem to ruin the battery for the machine. In the case of the cheerson cx10 the reason I decided to try a different charger was because I didn't have the correct charger with me and the two machines had the same type and size of battery so I figured it would be ok. It makes me worry a little bit, because after you get so many quadcopters and their Chargers all start to look so similar I worry that I might accidentally hook up the wrong charger to the wrong machine. And I thought that these batteries would be a little bit more intercompatible, but apparently 3.7 volt lithium ion battery single cell is not the same as others of the same voltage and milliamp hour ratings

    • @etyrnal
      @etyrnal 9 років тому

      Sorry for the bad grammar, I was on a mobile device and had to type this in using the Google dictate function. Apparently computers aren't able to understand what humans are saying as clearly as humans can. But they sure come close.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      etyrnal It's the polarity. I know that the CX-10 is reverse polarity from other similar nanos, so if you use the wrong charger, you can blow the charger, or the battery itself. It really is a pain in the butt, so I usually write on my charger what model it's for, or in most cases, I use my hobby-grade charger which can detect the polarity.

      We have a big discussion going on right now on the RCGroups forum
      Syma X11 thread (
      @forums/showthread.php?t=2279447#post30275318 ) as to which version of the X5C transmitter works with the X11.
      Apparently there have been different versions of the X5C transmitter
      shipped with the X5C quad that don’t work with the X11. Can you
      please identify which version you have that does work with X11? The
      part numbers for the actual Transmitters themselves that are
      currently available are X5C-13 and X5C-14. Thanks.

    Hey Ryan.. I am addicted to your channel buddy.. And great reviews as always.. I have a small request.. Why don't you make a video on how to fly a quadcopter? It would be helpful for beginners.. In that you should mention how to make funnels, bank turns and few tips..

    Hi Ryan I'm soon getting an X11C since the stock battery seems to last as long as the X11 from what I see online. What is the weight difference between the X11C and the X11? Furthermore, should I use 380mAh or 500mAh batteries? I'm a total newbie and I'm thinking the heavier 500mAh will wear/burn motors faster, will be more aggressive/unstable the first few minutes after a full charge, and create a greater vortex ring state when descending. What are your thoughts on all the above? John

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      YukiTech Yeah, I would avoid using the larger batteries often, especially in the already-heavier X11C (I don't know the exact weight differences), mostly because of the stress you'd put on the motors. I didn't notice a huge different in flight performance otherwise.

    I have a Hubsan x4 h107l and I believe the board in it died as now it does nothing when I connect a battery (and have tried several batteries). I really enjoyed it, but am thinking of giving this Syma X11 a try. I do have a few questions about the X11. Will it sync with the Hubsan x4 remote? Is there a way to turn the LEDs off like on the x4? Thanks!

      ***** I would go small for your first quad, especially if you have no flying experience. Actually, I would suggest starting on the UDI U816A. If you started with this one, you'd be likely to break props and gears in crashes, and that would be a lot of fixing to do for a beginner.

    Thanks for your review Flyin' Ryan! The information that you gave in this video helped me make the decision to buy the X11. I'd like to know if the 500mAh battery slows down the speed or how fast it climbs?
    Also, which mAh battery would you recommend best for the X11?

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      G-Phi Productions The 500mAh does have a slight affect on flight performance, due to the extra weight, but it's not hugely noticeable. The stock battery will give the best performance. The bigger the battery, the longer the flight, but the more it'll affect performance, and possibly wear out the motors faster.

    • @gphiproductions

      Flyin' Ryan RC Thanks! I did end up buying the 500mAh batteries and I did notice a slight change in flight. Afterwards I bought the 380mAh and the work much better IMO.

  • @etyrnal
    @etyrnal 9 років тому

    Okay I picked one of these up. I like it a lot. Its flight is very steady. And is very controllable. The biggest thing I do not like about it so far is how brittle the rotors seem to be. The rotors are like little cracks waiting to happen. Out of the box one of the rotors was cracked on its shaft sleeve ( the shipping box does not appear to have undergone any stress ) . I imagine it might have been from somebody having tightened the screws slightly too tight at the factory. . So it looks like I might be able to super glue the two halves of the rotor together so I'm testing that right now. So only complaint I have so far is the fact that the propellers are so brittle. One prop broke when it was just hovering an inch or two above the ground without any shocking or jarring. Another prop broke when the quadcopter brushed up against a curtain at a fairly slow rate. Not even jarring. Also the spare props that I got were three of one kind and one of the other in a mix matched proportion. So I got three propellers to replace A type, and only one to replace B type. Also I bought one of the 500 mah batteries for the hubsan. works great.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      etyrnal Yeah, I've heard of others breaking the props easily too. That's weird that your spare props were not 2 of each pitch.

    • @etyrnal
      @etyrnal 9 років тому

      Flyin' Ryan RC right front motor seems to be failing. What's the lifespan on these kinds of motors supposed to be like? I flew it every day 2 times (included battery, the the 380mah). Now the right front motor sometimes won't spin, and if i help it and start it spinning it will run, but fast enough to lift off. I don't crash much at all. i bought this after i'd already become pretty proficient with the cx-10, so this motor didn't die from crashing. Odd that the motor would fade out so soon. Two weeks it lasted. And i take good care of my 'toys'.
      p.s. after that first couple days, and those initial two props breaking off (as described above), the remaining props, and replacement props never broke after that. Plus that original prop that came cracked, never broke off -- bizarre.

    • @etyrnal
      @etyrnal 9 років тому

      can't really afford to replace a quad every 2 weeks. ever replaced a motor on a quad?

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      etyrnal Brushed motors deaths are common and frequent in this hobby, and it's hard to really say what causes them or not. One crash could be enough to do it, if you are providing power to the motor when the prop is stopped (that can severely damage the brushes inside the motor). I have replaced a few motors, but only in quads where they plug into the board. I think the X11 motors probably solder to the board, in which case I would not mess with it personally. But it's certainly doable.

    I love mine as well, same complaints, but I would add that I wish you could dial in expo, or that they would increase the length of the sticks, measured inputs for precise movement takes a few batteries to dial in, *you can buy 5 Tenergy 380mah 25c lipo packs for twenty dollars prime on Amazon=two day shipping for free.* This can keep you in the air for an entire hour including battery changes! While you go through six batteries you can charge two more while flying, and if you have a good charger and a board you can do all of them at once, take care to make sure that you drain the batteries for the same time for every flight. Take some measured time to give the motors some in between time to ensure durability.*Yes Syma you would be a superstar to many for brushless motors* I usually give mine about 30 seconds to a minute between batteries. I am not a pincher by default like you but I am used to a fullish size transmitter like traditional syma products and the DX7 spektrum radio. I own over 30 rc devices from planes to cars, and lets face it I am a fan of Syma's growth. I have bought just about everything they made early on starting with the foundation, the Syma S107, and several of their 4 channel helicopters, the X1 twice..lol I cant wait to see their progression over the course of the next two years or so, perhaps a brushless offerings, which I am salivating for as we speak. Lets face it changing out brushed motors over time is a hassle. I have two or three dozen brushless motors in something(Cars, planes, 6 channel helicopters) or just laying around and I have never had one of those fail on me ever. Besides that though Syma's products are generally pretty stinking tough.

      acehighflyer123 30-60 seconds between flights is nowhere near long enough to let the motors cool, and you will kill the motors quickly if you continue to fly like that. It is suggested to give them 10-15 *minutes* between flights. As for brushless Symas... don't hold your breath. The X8C has stirred up a lot of requests for that, and Syma has made it quite clear that they are in the "consumer grade" market, and the price and complexity of brushless systems is just not the market they are going for. It's unfortunate, but understandable. I just wish they had a bit faster yaw rates, as that really keeps their models from being great sport flyers. Oh, and you can use the X5C-1 transmitter with the X11, so that's quite a bit better than the stock Tx. :)

      Flyin' Ryan RC Yeah I tried two of the three of those Tx's I have at the house, I will have to try again to see if they will work, I wish it worked with my 4 Channel Syma heli Tx as well, its just bigger and heavier. I will have to try the X5c-1'g tx upon your recommendation. I will say thought that as far as portability goes you cant hardly beat the original setup. As far as brushless is concerned, I would gladly pay syma another 80-100 bucks to not have to change motors every 3 to 6 months, although my X1 almost lasted two years before it gave up the ghost. As far as manufacturing is concerned, it is an additional expense and I like Syma's approachability, but if they just offered a brushless addition to some of their products they would go like hot cakes. There are hundreds of thousands of people that gain experience from their products. Why not keep them in your own ecosystem of products when they are looking for the next progressive step? People are always comfortable with the familiar and Syma could start a loyal army from the age of 9 to 75..... Final side note I love flying my quads at night, my number one favorite activity. I will be getting into FPV by the end of next year though. Thanks for your response and suggestions......

      Flyin' Ryan RC Just bound to the bigger Tx from the X5c and it works like a charm, the feel is so much nicer and I will have to fly a few packs and see what this new experience is all about..lol SOOO much better. My personal feelings are that this quad is now close to perfect, even 20% faster yaw would put this thing at an extreme A+... They must have a new integrated board that prevents you from using other Tx's from past lineups. That Tx is the only one I had not tried...lol Thanks for putting me in the right line of thought. Every time I fly mine I am blown away at what we can get our hands on. I say to myself not bad for 38 dollars and two day prime shipping. Yeah I am an Amazon nut..lol I mean as a kid I would have paid over a hundred dollars for this type of flying and been happy to do so, these new kids out there are extremely lucky to be able to hone their interests when Rc has become extremely accessible. Subscribed...btw

      acehighflyer123 Yeah, a bit faster yaw rate and the X11 would be absolutely amazing. Syma has used a ton of different protocols, so yeah, most of the older transmitters don't work with the newer models. They changed protocols between the X5C and X5C-1, even, which is why the X5C-1 transmitter works with the X11, but the X5C Tx does not. :/ Thanks for subscribing! :D

    I like quads with large props compared to the body... I kinda want it now to add to my quad collection (which is just 1 at the moment lol)
    Do you reckon I can use the Hubsan transmitter would work with that quad or no? (Are they the same protocol.. I have no idea)...

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  10 років тому

      Jordan O'C No, the Hubsan protocol is very proprietary, so only Hubsan models work with Hubsan transmitters (the Proto X is a rebranded Hubsan Q4, which is why it works). I definitely would've mentioned that in the review if it were possible. ;)

    if I wanted to get a new one would you recommend this over the xl5 by syma I know there's a size difference but I'm still in the learning phase is with the you UDI recommended recommended

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      +mzondi1970 Do you mean the X5C? I think your choice would be based on where you want to fly, indoors or outdoors. They both are relatively easy to fly, so there wouldn't be much difference in choice there. I would go with the X11 for indoors, or X5C for outdoors.

    Great reviews Ryan. When I look for a review by someone who tells it like it is I go for your channel. As for this quad, I think I'll wait until the X-11C drops before I get one as I love my Hubsan X4C. But the flights are too short with it. But the controller is better than this Syma one IMHO.

      @theimacman  10 років тому

      Rob Barnett Thanks man! :D I will be getting the X11C, so keep your eye out for a review of that, probably in early 2015 at this point. I also hear that the Syma X5C-1 transmitter actually does work with this, which would be awesome for me. :)

    I received my X11 the day after Xmas and have put at least 10 batteries through it already. It has definitely become one of my favorites. More pitch would be nice, but perhaps in addition to the 'beginner friendly' factor Syma is trying to conserve the nano-quad motors that they are using on this micro?
    For me the sweet spot in batteries on the X11 is 250mah. At 300 the responsiveness is considerably reduced, and 250 gives a nice extended length of flight. Your review does make me curious to try a 500 none-the-less though. I don't currently have one on hand to test.=D
    I'm amazed at how much it looks like the hubsan in spite of the geared props. I ended up with the red(same as my H107C) as the white were more difficult to come by at a reduced price.
    The controller really doesn't bother me though Syma does seem to have limited control to about 50% of the stick throw, which may make pinching easier. I see that the thumb pads have screws to secure them under the rubber covers. It should be possible to replace them with sticks.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      yadabub Apparently there are 3 different versions of the X11, all with different pitch and yaw rates. Some say that theirs are much faster, but then that obviously kills the battery faster. Syma is really making a mess of things lately with all the different revisions (Syma X5C also has 3 versions), and changing protocols so much. :/ And, I honestly did not notice any control difference between the stock battery and bigger batteries, but maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention. I certainly didn't find it to be any harder to fly with the bigger batteries in it.

    • @yadabub
      @yadabub 9 років тому

      Flyin' Ryan RC
      Yeah, new revisions are good when they fix things, not so good when they make it so that you can't tell what you are purchasing. I suppose that the whole protocol debacle is mostly a result of supply chain issues for the budget RC. They probably buy compatible chips at the best price, and if that means a new protocol then so be it. And if they can save a few cents per unit by adapting their own version of a protocol to a new chip rather than licensing someone else's they will.
      It still controls fine with the bigger battery, it just responds a bit slower. More like a boat, or a camera quad. Then again, who knows- we may have different firmware:)

    hello Flying Ryan I would just like to know what would be the best micro quad to fly inside and outside (I already have the Hubsan H107C and I love it!)

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      +Blade456 Impossible to say. "Best" is relative and depends on many factors, like what sort of flying characteristics you are looking for. And, it's also hard to say since I don't really fly micros outside, so I don't have a lot of experience in that area. I would say the Blade Nano QX is my favorite indoor flyer, but it's not good outdoors in any wind. This Syma X11 would be a good choice too... it's kind of like a Hubsan X4, but slower and more stable.
